When asked if the orchestra conductor demo from E3 2006 would make an appearance, Reggie said "Who knows? Maybe that's one of the things we'll talk about at E3." He similarly dodged a Donkey Kong Wii question.
Fils-Aime said that Nintendo's post-E3 releases will be "maximizing all of our key franchises," teasing something the hardcore userbase will be frothing over.

I think Wii Sports 2 and Animal Crossing will show their faces, but there's also the possibility of Zelda or some of the lesser known franchises like F-Zero or Kid Icarus.

Given the success of Wii Sports, one would assume a follow-up would be guaranteed. However, in a recent interview with the Japanese game blog 1101.com (http://www.1101.com/iwata/2007-09-12.html), Nintendo president and CEO Saturo Iwata announced that Wii Sports won't come out anytime soon--if it comes out at all. "We're not going to take such an easy way, not by including seven new sports in the game since Wii Sports has five," he said. "We're not closing our doors to the possibility of a sequel, but it's definitely not coming out soon."

According to Iwata, a rushed Wii Sports sequel would only introduce incremental improvements that wouldn't be as fun for players. "If you start making such decisions without thinking, you start doing the easy stuff. You disengage yourself with the pursuit of true entertainment," he explained. Furthermore, Iwata said simply following Wii Sports with more-of-the-same gameplay wouldn't be in line with Nintendo's goal to expand the gaming market. "Our mission is to surprise people in a good way, and this became very clear as we made Nintendo DS and Wii. You can't open up a new market of customers if you can't surprise them."

Wii Play and Wii Fit are your spiritual sequels, as far as that audience is concerned.

I remember seeing that in an interview also, but I don't remember where. IIRC they said that they knew Wii Sports 2 would sell really well, but it wouldn't get people to buy a Wii since people were buying a Wii for Wii Sports 1, and they wanted to focus their development teams on something different that will sell Wiis to people not interested in Wii Sports.

What would most excite me is what I call the "Bionic Commando Rearmed" Channel, where everything is 2D but crafted with high resolution art and textures. How about a Mega Man 2 Powered Up in 480p widescreen from Capcom, a Simon's Quest Revisited from Konami, and R.C. Pro-Am Wii from Nintendo? Maybe the WiiWare channel is trying to accomplish the same thing, but I've gotten the impression it's more budget-type releases for the most part.

Or maybe more games like Smash and Mario Kart that will offer a gazillion control schemes but everyone will want to use the Cube controller regardless. How about a Wii Wavebird announcement? No wait that makes sense so it won't happen. Instead they'll announce the new shell - Shovel attachment for Animal Crossing! Or a keypad attachment to go along with Nintendo Pay to Play for inputing friend codes and item trade codes! Punch Out makes too much sense too so that won't happen. I do expect to see a Pay to Play list consisting of Animal Crossing, Monster Hunter 3, and TBA. ;) I also expect to see some sort of answer to the memory storage limitations. An ideal situation would have Reggie unveil what looks to be a normal Wii, then he reveals that the different colored base is the new HDD attachment. Now that would be slick.

Something Animal Crossing being revealed shouldn't be a surprise, it should be a game that's coming out. Yes I'll be excited when I see it, but if this was a 'big surprise' I'd be kinda let down.

The only thing they can announce that would TRULY be a surprise would be them revealing their own HDD. Or allowing to copy VC/Wii Ware games to SD cards to play off of. That's really the only thing at this point that would absolutely surprise me.

Announcing Animal Crossing, or another game in the 'Wii ___' series (Wii Sports, Play, Fit, etc) isn't a big deal.

Maybe something totally new and something totally unexpected. Something like a Kirby adventure game or a Star Fox on rails shooter doesn't count as a surprise either, as they are games that should be coming out one way or the other.

The September "surprise" was a couple of potential things. The only two I remember right now were the introduction of Import games on the VC, which came in the form of Mario Bros 2: Lost Levels and Sin and Punishment.

The other potential was the Wiimote glove/protectors/condoms that Nintendo sent out for free and started packaging into all systems/controllers.

I think there were a few other things that qualified, but I can't remember them at the moment.

They better announce that Pikmin 3 will be out by the end of this year or early next year. I'm only so hungry for it because it's impossible to find Pikmin 2 for under $20 around me. I just went through Pikmin 1 and beat it for the first time(after playing it a lot before, but never getting to the end), and I need to play a new one. I have fond memories of Pikmin 2's multiplayer, and I started the single player and was enjoying it. Perfect for online with Wii controls.

I'm really hoping for a 3rd one for the Wii soon, and maybe even a DS game. I think both the touchscreen and the wiimote would be perfect for this game.

I own both games, didn't beat either one of them, but love them. I hate RPGs and still love the series. I didn't really understand the story of the second, the alien came back? But it is a great series. I;ll even take a remake of both of them, anything dealing with them would be great.

Again, it's a joke from way back in the Gamecube days.

Basically, there was a rumor that a "megaton-level announcement" was coming. It caused insane amounts of speculation from the Nintendo camp, including the buy-out of Capcom and/or Sega, various game collaborations (A Nintendo-Sega massive RPG title), and other various omfg-we're-all-going-to-die-from-the-blood-loss-from-our-erections predictions.

In the end, it turned out to be something that either A) never happened, or B) was lame, with the official answer being that it was some Japanese magazine's mascot getting their own game, whose name was Megaton. Or something to that effect. Point being was that it was a huge "disappointment" depending on who you are talking to.

So now it's a common joke that anything Nintendo is secretly harboring is teh megaton, or some variation thereof.

They're new peripherals called Wii Slots which are pod-like cartridge slots that connect to the Wii via the USB ports. There will be a seperate Wii Slot for SNES, Genesis, N64 and NES cartridges. You play them with the Wii Classic Controller or the GameCube controller. They'll retail at $39.99 each

I'm sort of amazed that Nintendo fan's are still with Nintendo and still have faith in them. It's really sad what Nintendo is doing to it's core gamers. I'm just waiting for the day when they announce a Core Gamers in space adventure, where they just send all the core gamers to the moon to die.
