Where can I buy 3 at a decent price and in different colors?

You're pretty much stuck with the platinum colored controllers for around $25 since all the other colors are pretty hard to find now, especially in stores.

eBay.

I don't think you are going to find new controllers anywhere in stores...unless you are able to find sealed Gamecubes and buy them up.

if you don't mind used...pawn shops have been pretty good to me. Picked up four black ones for 7 bucks each less than a year ago

Most stores only carry third party controllers if anything, but you can find Nintendo brand Platinum controllers at Circuit City stores and Amazon for about $25. You can save 10% at CC if you have (or buy) a Gamer's Club membership. Most if not all CC stores in the Minneapolis area still have them, but YMMV.

Other colors are going to be difficult unless you want to pay a premium. You probably won't find them at retail, but you may be able to snag a decent price on ebay.

are wired platinum cube controllers "rare"? The toys R us nearby had about 15 of them brand new, all platinum though.

I would not call Platinum rare... but every other color is.

I'm going to throw out Spice Orange and Indigo with clear bottoms. I believe those two plus regular Indigo, Black, and Silver were the only ones released stateside. There's an Emerald Green one in Japan which looks pretty sweet, but that's even more of a premium.

Speaking of Japan, are they more common over there? Does Nintendo have a vendetta against GC controllers, be they wired or Wavebirds, in the States only or is it a worldwide thing?

Sony's going to make billions off $60++ Dualshock 3s; you'd think Nintendo would smarten up and release a "Wii Wavebird" (with rumble) which would earn them unimaginable profits.

The green one in Japan is supposed to be a Luigi on and there is a red Mario one and I think they also did a yellow Wario.

Grabbed a couple platinum controllers for $19.99 a piece at Fry's the day Smash came out.
