Hey Ruined! Good to see you around here.

I wouldn't buy an Nvidia card. It only does well on Doom 3 compared to ATI's, it's gonna get completely owned on HalfLife 2 in comparison.

If it was the Ultra, you'd probably have to spend a lot more than this, seeing as how I doubt very many people have 480+ power supplies in their comps right now.

they may call you a fanboy, but the x800 runs HL2 30 percent better than the top Nvidia card.

I have owned NVidia and ATI cards, I am pretty agnostic. But the claim that the x800 runs HL2 30% faster seems pretty weak, considering HL2 isn't even out yet.

yea and the same was said about doom3 running better on geforce. it does but not by a great margin. so at the end this will probably mean that the ati cards will just run it slightly better if anything over the nvidea cards

u only need a 300watt minimum to run the 6800GT, only an idiot would think 480 was the minimum

this is what the testers have said.

Nah, no testers have said that. It was a marketing statement. HL2 isn't even out yet. So far, benchmarks of the leaked beta show the 6800U tied with the x800xt and the 6800GT beating the X800PRO.
You can't beat the 6800GT for the price - it has 16 pipelines, shader model 3.0, openexr hdr lighting. Faster with more pipelines than the 12-pipeline x800pro and more future proof too due to better featureset. Not to mention its killer Doom3 performance - which will reflect on not only Doom3, but games based on it like Quake4, RTCW2, etc...
This is a great deal, I'd hop on it.
Hey Ruined, you're the same guy from the Nvnews.net forums, aren't you :)

too bad valve did tests with the 6800 and has stated that it will run half life 2 30% slower then the x800.
I would be all over this if valve hadn't flat out stated the huge performance gap.
Meh, any benchmarks done before the engine is final are fairly moot, especially when the results aren't verifiable by others. Valve "doing some tests" could mean anything, and they also conveniently don't mention the resolution or settings used between the cards. But you aren't taking into account that they were compairing the top-of-the-line cards (or were they?): a 6800GT is much better than a equally-priced x800pro, especially for a deal like this. Though it's hard to say how acurate Valve's statements are when they've been payed millions of dollers by ATI, especially when much of what they say sounds like it's specifically supposed to get people less interested in the 6800 series (i.e. "we ran some tests, and Nvidia cards are 30% slower! Just ignore the fact that we don't give any other details or information about it"). Lets wait for some non-bias benchmarks of the full game to come out before we start making conclusions based on developer PR.
