I see, very nice. Does it have the power to run back high def MKV and X264 files?I don't think VLC natively handles MKV files. I've not gotten that far in testing things out, but I'm guessing there's a solution out there for it.

Supposedly there's RSX drivers (what?) that do allow 720p and 1080p MKVs to play in Linux. I'll see if I can dig up more info and report back if you're interested. :)

The real issue with running Linux on the PS3 is that the Cell is a PPC chip, not an x86 chip so sometimes finding software for is can be a bit of trick. And if you're a complete Linux idiot like I am, there's a bit of a learning curve.

You'd be surprised. About a year ago I'd agree with you how shitty Indie games are, but the stuff nowadays is damn crazy. You'll see as I do more games.

That one I programmed a while ago I stopped making to take a long ass break from it. Part of the reason why is due to some really shitty loading process that almost killed reasons to play the game. I will go back to it in the next month or so since I have been dying to finish that thing (ie. Monotone Friday).

I do hate how people refer to its complexity to just being a random mess, which is totally wrong. I was really pissed when I played through MGS3 how straightforward the entire thing felt... nothing like MGS2 :(

That's part of why I like Killer 7 because of the story complexity. The only other game beside Killer 7 that was ever as complex was MGS2.

Yeah, the storyline's complicated, but if you pay attention, it does make sense, and it's damn good when it does make sense to you.

Oohhhhhh, I must chime in that Ninja Gaiden DS is just sooooooooooo good. I just started (only on chapter 3), but I'm lovin' every minute of it. Count me in also as someone who wasn't sure about the stylus as a controller, but the moment I did an Izuna Drop, all that doubt melted away. This is my fave DS game overall so far...

Just finished Gears Composed of Metal, Also Solid. This was the 2834rd time. Uhm... still fantastic. Switching to the PS2 controller was the right choice, too, because it controlled much, much, much better. What I was surprised by was how difficult the game was though. Don't remember it being anywhere near this tough. Wasn't like... impossible, but there were times when I was like "dayyum." The typical Ocelot speech at the end was still "OH DAMN" even though I've played through the second game and know most of the secrets, but it did remind me that I've been waiting more than 6 years to find out what the hell was up with that end speech in MGS2... I think what I really disliked about MGS3 was that it was set in the past... all I wanted was to find out what happened next.

I want to play MGS2 next weekend.


Also, I just realized that June starts with Ninja Gaiden II, and then a mere week later, I'll finally find out how MGS concludes. Couldn't be any better of a month.

Edit: Oh, it was also fuckin' great playing MGS1 now, because I've got my sound setup. It was like a completely different experience. The music was that much better, and it was kewl, because I could finally understand what the guy says over the radio once the alert phase ends. Very cool.

Yep, that's what he says. But I could never understand it with TV speakers.... my old TV sucked.

Anyway, Disc 2... well, it's a lot shorter than disc 1 in terms of length... there's a few lengthy conversations and cut-scenes, but this is where the "holy fuggin' shit" stuff happens.

I'm almost getting sick of Crisis Core. Every single mission has some token story attached to it, like "rescue SOLDIER operatives that are trapped by monsters," but every single mission is actually "run from one end of the level to the other, getting in too many 'random' battles, and kill the one visible monster on the map." And sadly I agree with the import reviews I've read: the story is almost unintelligible. This game may be worse than Dirge of Cerberus (note: I liked Dirge of Cerberus.)

Anyway, I did get Sega All-Star Tennis (PS3 version) and I'm definitely excited about getting Mana Khemia this week. Last night was kind of weird. I hosted CoD4 night (at 9pm) and started to get tired at 10:30pm or so. I ended up becoming a spectator later on, and I ended up passing out and falling asleep. I woke up at 11:30pm (I slept at 10:45pm) and saw everyone was gone, lol. I apologized to everyone who played since I was just really tired. After I posted to apologize, I did not even wake up at any time until 8:30am. I was more tired than I ever have been, and I'm still really tired now. I guess my busy week of getting no sleep caught up with me.

Hrm... so I was gonna get those really expensive speakers for my computer, but then I realized I don't want to drop that much cash on speakers. That'd be a ridiculous amount of cash. I convinced myself I'd be fine sticking with my trusty, CAG-approved Logitech set ($50 5.1), but I realized today that, oh yeah, that shit sucks. But on the bright side, I can get this $700 pair that's coming out in may for $500 with free shipping, so I might end up doing that. It all works out well, since that's a pair of Bookshelf speakers that costs $700, and I'm using it with my ghangsta sub, so this should be incredible when it's all set up.

Can't wait to try out my PC games again, and hear what's going on this time. And/or listen to muzac.

yeah, I'm well aware of that, which is why I said it's a good movie. but in the process of becoming a good movie, it became less of a documentary. the best documentaries are interesting and as objective as possible, imo.

I love what they did though...ever since I saw the True Life episode about gamers, I thought Billy Mitchell would make a great villain. His whole philosophy is kinda narcissistic (not that there's anything wrong with that.)

The Asian one was at E3 way back before Soul Calibur II came out here... so that was Namco's big title in their booth. Well we were both in the tournament (I got 4th), and first round I play mister 'hardcore' and completely murder him. Must have been his first time playing SC II or something lol. So much for hardcore, I was playing my JPN version already :P

What I thought was going to be a short game ended up being 34 hours. I just HAD to go through the final dungeon, which if you want to fight a ton of monsters takes about 8 hours to beat.

I finished up DMC4 on Human and I did enjoy the second half of the game with Dante. The different styles were fun and the story really picked up with the more difficult enemies and such. It wasn't as meh as it was to start with, but I don't think I'll be playing through it again. It's up on Half.com already.

Next up is Saint's Row with some Strangehold thrown in I think. Never played Saint's Row and I got it off of Goozex a couple weeks ago. I haven't played a GTA-style game in a looooong time, so this will be a good ramp up to GTAIV.

Well, the game started out easy for the first two missions, but around mission 7,8, or 9 (can't remember which), I found myself using multiple healing items or having to use the yellow star to revive myself. Let's just say I was pretty bad at DMC3 and I'm just not too good at action games like DMC/NG. I'll admit I tend to attack a bit too much and not use enough defense. I do fine with Musou type games and some action RPGs. I haven't played DMC4 in over a month and I'm on mission 10. I just don't have a lot of time and still too many games to play. :-( I'll get around to beating it one day.

I'm not really blind (my eyes aren't perfect) though.

Toshibas are meh and DLP sucks. Sammy is a good brand though. There are some nice Panny plasmas (like mine) for around $1600. Sammy LCDs are very nice as well. Rule of thumb:

Plasma - Pioneer, Panasonic, I always forget the third good plasma brand
LCD - Sharp, Samsung, Sony

Went to Blockbuster today and ended up with Earth Defense Force and Dead To Rights 2 for $10. Then I went to another and didn't find anything, but I talked to a friend there and he convinced me that I should play that Viking game.

It doesn't just kill Big Boss decendents, because it killed Decoy Octopus and Baker as well. The DARPA chief was actually a bad dude, but he wasn't working with Ocelot I don't think. As for the others, play 2. I don't think all the questions were answered there, which is why the wait for MGS4 has been so brutal. Fucking MGS3 and it's irrelevance to the questions I wanted answers to.

as for Otacon, I mean after the second Wolf fight, so after Otacon helps him escape. It's like they were helping each other before because they kinda had similar goals, but it wasn't until Otacon talks to Snake before they escape that they really became friends. I dunno, I guess it doesn't have to make perfect sense...considering the game wasn't a huge mega hit with a guaranteed sequel yet.

ahhh, right right... but Snake and Otacon don't really become true pals until Otacon's ending. iirc, the last time you hear from him before the end of the game is when you kill Sniper Wolf, which might mean they parted on not-so-good terms.

Lets see if I got this right. at the end of MGS1:
--Snake is still infected with Foxhound. but he was given some special variant of it that makes it contagious, but it only affects people who were offspring of Big Boss.
--Ocelot was really working for the president, as he has been since the events in MGS3.
--The president has an unknown (?) motivation for keeping Snake alive, which is why he called off the bombing.
--The DARPA chief was secretly working with Ocelot?
--What the hell was with the Secretary of Defense? Was he acting on his own?

If any of this is answered in 2, let me know.



I'm stoked to play MGS2 this weekend too. I hope it ties up some loose ends.
Foxdie is programmed to only kill certain people. Snake can't give it to anyone it's not programmed to kill. So there's no chance of him just spreading it around. It was made to kill the Foxhound members, not just sons of Big Boss, as a backup in case Snake failed.

As for Snake still having it, Naomi changed it as far as Snake was concerned. As revenge for him killing her brother she set the Foxdie's death trigger to random for Snake. So he would have to constantly live with the fact that he never knows when he will die from it.
Everything else is answered in 2.

I think it was EGM or IGN that said the Crisis Core battle system gets deeper after a couple missions. I don't think it ever actually happened. But I seem to be in the minority.

And you can't go back to town to rest, or everything gets respawned. Good times!
