Haha, yup, that's pretty much what they made me do back when I worked at Best Buy. When they're selling hardware at near-or-below cost, they need to make up for it somehow, and of course that's through service plans. Strange thing is that they even wanted me to mention the service plan on items that were on sale for as much as the service plan was (i.e. a $20 CD-R drive with a $20 service plan), I looked at my boss as funny as the customers looked at me.

Awesome comic, esp the alt ending. Although I have to say that most of the time when they ask me for the extended warranty and I say no they move on to the next sucker. However, I did have an experience similar to Cheapys, wish I thought to write to corporate about it; I could always use $50 of BB credit!

Great comic, even though it depresses me because I have to ask that for pretty much every single thing I ring out. There are some items that I really believe that the replacement plan is good on (MP3 players, portable CD Players, Game Systems, big TV's) but most of the stuff is utter BS. Also, please try to be understanding of the cashiers. We are forced to offer that shit and most of us like our discount enough to warrant keeping the job. I am not going to buy a $100 warranty on a like $300 TV.

This is one of the funniest things I ahve seen in a while!! I bought a printer at Worst Buy and the guy was so ripped that I didn't want the warranty that it felt like he didn't want the sale. I left the printer at his register got another one and gave the sale to someon else in the computer dept. Next time maybe I should get it so I can Cheapy'd that guy :twisted:

Unfortunately, I work for a similar company that sells extended warranties. Sometimes there good ones, sometimes there are crappy one. The comic is sweet. It does depict a lot on what happens at those kinds of stores. It's a job. What can ya say!?!

Working at Best Buy myself, I found the comics to be quite hysterical, because the point is oh so true. The managers have half hour meetings daily before the store opens with every employee standing in a circle while they go on and on about how to make sure to put large emphasis and the service plans and similar, and even I find it annoying.

I would also find it too stupid to actually be one of those guys who tries to sell items and attach a billion accessories and the service plans like the managers force you to do. I'd feel like a prick. That's why I don't work sales anymore and spend my time in the warehouse sorting and stocking truck stock.

Anyway, I hope you don't mind, but I'm printing both pages out and posting them up on the wall in the "hub" (break room) at my Best Buy location. The managers' heads are going to explode.

I too have been hounded by the "extended warranty" dogs. I've also worked at a Software Etc. where they tried to force us to act like that guy. So I busted a gut when I read the alternate ending.

About that warranty, if you buy a computer and get the warranty, and 3 years later it takes "water damage" the parts wll most likely not be available anymore and they will be contractually cound to buy you a new computer the same price as your old one.

But that would be dishonest.

(Water damage is best because it is always no-questions-asked, just leave it out in the rain and your good to go.)

Great comic. I actually bought a Laptop at Worst Buy just 2 weeks ago (the one that was $599 after rebates) and they tried to tell me the same crap. "The battery alone costs $200 and they only last 18 months. Blah Blah Blah" Like I want to spend 1/3 of the price on the BS Warranty. Of course, they never give up just as you depicted.

I stopped going to Circuit Shcity years ago for the same reason. I was getting my mom a stereo and refused the warranty. "If it was my Mom I'd buy it" said the moron clerk. Almost sucker punched him on the spot. Left the stereo and the store for good.

It would be nice to see these places stand behind what they sell rather than always going for the extra buck by telling you that your buying crap that is going to break. Sheeeesh almighty!!! :x
