No kidding. I've bought it but haven't opened it yet. Possible upcoming financial strife is making me keeping it sealed until I'm sure the financial hurdle won't come. But I certainly wouldn't mind a cheaper deal so I can return my yet-unopened copy. As, like you insinuated, it's a game every Wii owner must have.

God I hope its not for the Wii. There is only a handfull of decent games out for it and I own all of them. I will not hold my breathe though. After the last deal day disaster I just dont know.
With no time mentioned, and since the title will probably sell out in a minute or two, I'm not even getting excited about this.
EDIT: Wait. Maybe I'm thinking of something else. Are times listed for the Lightning deals?

Beat me to it. I think they'll be trying to unload all the original versions of COD4 with the Collector's Edition hitting.

unless its a pre-order for prologue or mario kart, its more then likely gonna be burnout (that game was pimped like crazy and im pretty sure they have some sort of overstock of it, due to less then spectacular sales)

Assuming it's Burnout, I don't think there's any way in hell it's less than $40 for a good-selling game that was released barely 2 months ago.

04-03-2008, 05:12 AM
Hmm. The only possible titles would be Burnout Paradise or Need For Speed: Pro Street. Unless they're doing a special pre-order deal, you could count GT5:Prologue and Mario Kart in to the mix too. Hopefully if it's one of the first two titles I mentioned, the price'll be lower than $30. ^.^
graf1k
04-03-2008, 05:43 AM
It's almost assuredly Burnout Paradise as, like someone else said previously, "Ruling the Road" is one of many things to do in the game, and it's a pretty high profile series.
Nice, here's hoping for a good price on Burnout then. Wonder if it'll be 360, PS3 or both ...
terutt
04-03-2008, 06:24 AM
Yeah...Burnout Paradise seems like the pick...going to set the over/under for the deal at $39.95
Bah. I would only be interested if it turned out to be a Mario Kart pre-order. (And I'm sure it won't be.)
Defeat the purpose of what?
Online is the biggest new feature in BP. And for that, I'd prefer 360.
Here's hoping they offer both versions so everyone can decide for themselves (and at least make the deal last longer inventory-wise)
Zmonkay
04-03-2008, 08:04 AM
Actually, I'd bite on Paradise at 30. Sadly it'll prolly be 40, like most are saying.

From the blurb it sounds like Burnout P, but Amazon and Sony have been buddy buddy as of late, so I'm leaning towards GT5P.
KingBroly
04-03-2008, 09:43 AM
I wouldn't exactly call Burnout Paradise "High Profile". Gran Turismo is definitely high profile. As for ruling the roads, it does make it seem like a game involving real roads instead of race tracks, putting it in Burnout territory.

You have any ebay tips you're willing to share? I always put bids in on games and when I check back later on the last bid is like $1 over my threshold/max bid. It angers me to no end, so my expectations for deals on ebay run low.

Look for cheap buy-it-now auctions that just recently went up.
That's exactly what I do myself. A while back I scored some Wii Points cards for $14.00 each, but you can only do it if you only check Newly Listed auctions for whatever you want. I'll bid on plenty of things that aren't popular items, but video games aren't one of them.

As Apossum said check Buy-It-Now some just want to get rid of games when they are done fast. Or as I do when there are no Buy-It-Now cheap I wait till the last second of auction and then bid (how I got Dark Sector Brand New Sealed for $40 shipped). That and if you pick unusual time of the end of auction it helps. If you are a night-owl time like 4-5 am helps becuase most people are not up bidding at that time. Or middle of the day when people are at work or school. Also a good amount of Luck helps.

You have any ebay tips you're willing to share? I always put bids in on games and when I check back later on the last bid is like $1 over my threshold/max bid. It angers me to no end, so my expectations for deals on ebay run low.
A little tip I learned from an offhand line in the HBO series In Treatment is to bid during major events/holidays like the Superbowl, so you'll have less competition to deal with. ;)
Since CheapyD just confirmed it
I don't think he confirmed it so much as he just thinks Burnout's the most likely game.

I would consider Burnout Paradise if it is at around 20-30 dollars price tag other than that I'll pass. The game looks great but just the over feel of the game just isnt what I grew up with. Hopefully CoD4 or Assassin Creed will be part of this deal I'm still waiting for those games to be at available at a good price.

$20 is my breaking point on Burnout Paradise. I bought revenge and really liked it but for some reason I never got around to playing it much. It's on the backlog... and I sort of feel guilty buying another Burnout until I get my money's worth out of that one.

Unless you ONLY played Burnout for CRASH mode you would be remiss not to give Paradise a try.
True that Crash mode is missing and the game is not perfect, my biggest gripe is NOTHING lives in Paradise.
But it is HELLA fun 1P as well as competetive or co-op up to 8 players.
Don't judge the game by the LAME demo. Buy the game (or rent it) and judge for yourself.
Easily 20 hours of entertainment for ANY racing fan, I'm pushing 40 hours myself.

Yeah, I'm not understanding the BP hate in this thread. I was never a big Burnout guy but after all my buddies got it, I folded to peer pressure and picked it up and basically never played anything else for a couple weeks. The road rules and events are all pretty fun but the online challenges were easily my favorite part. Hopefully the planned DLC is all new online challenges. I've already done 349/350 originals.

04-03-2008, 03:21 PM
Man, I paid the stinkin' $54.99 at Amazon two days ago for BP... honoring my own deal post dangit. Fortunately, I think Amazon will honor any price break due to the lightning deal according to their own "Post-Order Price Guarantee". They say nothing about lightning deals being excluded, so hopefully whatever price it comes down to today (assuming IT is the deal in the first place!) I should be able to get a credit for the diff.
If that works I'll post back... this could be a new strategy for those who figure out what the lightning deal is in advance but don't have the time to wait around til it actually goes live... order immediately, then request a price match refund.

Burnout Paradise is a terrible game.
I wouldn't call it terrible, but will say it failed at its first attempt at an open racing world. It's a good idea - but they needed to tweak a few things (i.e., car speed) to make it work as one would have wanted.
Though, 15 dollars? Sure, I'll pick it up.

Car speed? How so? Some of the cars are insanely fast, as in "can barely keep them on the road" fast. Of course the early cars you get aren't, but that's kinda the point.

Yeah, it's a bit overwhelming at first to play in such a vast and open world, but then you get used to all the shortcuts and you finally 'get' how to play this game with shortcuts and all.
Yeah, I loved the earlier Burnouts, but Paradise has to be one of my favorites. Now if only the cars exploded upon collision... 8-)

I'm not so sure it's gonna be less than $40.00 anytime soon, and I see a lot of people saying it will be. May I ask why you think that. $40.00 for a fairly new release sounds like a deal to me, although I didn't buy it because I got my copy for free. But if I hadn't I would have bit.

I picked up this game for $36 (sealed/new copy) last week. The demo really didn't do it justice. For example the sandbox play allowed the developers to add new ways to earn cars. Once in a while a random car that you can earn will wiz by you when you are not in a specific challenge. If you can take out that car it appears in your junkyard/garage. IMO this game is well worth $40 if you've liked past versions of burnout.
Tomeeboy
04-03-2008, 07:37 PM
I couldn't get into this game... It feels like driving around in Grand Theft Auto or Crackdown (granted, with better graphics and driving controls), but without the ability to get out of your car and shoot somebody every once in a while to liven things up. I liked the Burnout series much better when the tracks were separated and the game followed some kind of structure. I hope they go back to that in their next installment.

I don't get it either. I don't see this game dropping to $30 MSRP any time soon. Maybe by this summer it'll go $40, where many halfway decent 360 titles settle into if they do any kind of permanent price drop.
And I certainly haven't seen any national sales on this game, despite all the Internet negativity.
Anyway, I opt'd in for one. $20 discount and no tax/free shipping works for me.

Also, on your order summary email you should see "Lightning Deal -$20.00"
If you're looking at your order summary on the amazon site, it will be labeled as "promotional certificate."
Hope this helps

So, it was Burnout Paradise and $40. I don't mind that I was in class and missed this.

I was tempted for Burnout, but 40 is just too much for me to pay. The 10 I paid for the Burnout on the XBox (I forget which one, it got great ratings) used was great, and I would have gone for 25-30, but I knew Amazon wouldn't put it that low.

Good deal, but with the hype, maybe we were hoping for better.

Only 27% took the deal, that's a pretty bad ratio. Incidentally I decided to buy Burnout Revenge from the forums for $14, rather than pay $60 for Paradise which people seem to be over with.

The invoice in my email says "Grand total: $44.98" at the top. In the details below, however, it shows $59.99, with free Super Saver Shipping, but no mention of "Lightning Deal" or any indication that $20 was subtracted.

The fault should be on Amazon for not making a better deal, in my opinion. When you've seen CoD4, Assassin's Creed and Bioshock all for $40 at one point, $40 doesn't look like a great deal for an aging game. I will recant that I enjoyed Burnout Paradise even when I bought it for $51, but it was my first Burnout so maybe I'm not so jaded. There were a ton of minor annoyances but I had about 30 hours worth of fun.
Currently playing Burnout Revenge right now. It's too bad the graphics are worse, occasionally gets really dark in the shortcuts, still has the same shitty camera and the thing I hate most is how achievements are dealt out.

woulda hit it for 30. I can wait, I still have the (imho) supperior Revenge, or even better, Takedown, to keep me satisfied.

Are people still playing Revenge online? Man, I need to get back into that. By far my favorite 360 online game.

Agreed as well. No Crash mode either...it's not a disaster but it's a definite disappointment and I'm glad I rented it first. Hopefully the next Burnout will go back to basics.

I'm not seeing why Crash mode is so loved. I just did Exploding Bay 20x over and can't get 5-stars.

Sounds like it isn't my type of game. I really don't like racing games where it is one open city like Midnight Club. I was thinking of selling my unopened Burnout Dominator for PS2 and picking up Paradise instead but it sounds like I should skip Paradise and keep Dominator

Yes. Definitely.
Or sell Dominator and pick up Burnout 3: Takedown (best in the series IMO) for cheap.
