I just received "Watchmen" by Alan Moore after I heard on here how awesome of a novel it is. I never read a comic before, so how is one suppose to read one? Up to down?left to right?

Thanks in advance, and whats your guy's thought on this novel?

Comics are read left to right. Top to down.

Manga is read right to left. Top to down.

what kind of question is this? Unless it's manga, your answer is upside-down with your eyes closed.

If you even have to ask this, kill yourself. Never reading a comic is no excuse, unless you've never read any kind of book written in English in your life.

when i first read this, i thought it would be "how do i open a comic book to read it so that I dont diminish or degrade the condition of the comic book" because of the fragile nature of comic books.

Frankly, 90% of the time writing in comic books isnt that great and you can just flip through the pages, appreciate the artwork, understand the story.

when the storyline is really good, like with the dark phoenix saga, or any batman comic with the joker in it, or the riddler(because i want to know the riddle) then yeah i read it.

Same. However, yes, left to right, top to bottom (unless it's manga with the original page layout), 1 page at a time, with exceptions. Usually, it's pretty obvious, but hell, I've been reading comics for better than 25 years, and I still, every once in a while, will read the wrong panel next. Different artists have different layout styles. You just have to adjust.

The proper way to read a comic book is to not read it at all....

Pretty common sense stuff, OP, but hell... stupider questions out there. But yeah... Left to Right, Top to Down.

Watchmen was great for me when I read it 10+ years ago, but I checked it out at my library about a year ago to reread it, since I had forgotten 98% of it (Rorshack's persona will always remain in my memory). After reading most of it again, it just felt dated and too political.

I would recommend Bone: One Volume Edition over Watchmen anytime ($26.37 @ Amazon, 1,300 pages!)

For me, i stopped reading them 12-13 years ago and just keep a case of them all sealed in plastic in my closet.

At first I was going to have mercy on the guy - I've seen a few comics where the layouts are so clusterfucked that it really IS hard to tell which way you're supposed to go (left to right all the way across both pages, one page at a time, etc)...Watchmen doesn't fall into that category though.

When the guy on the raft eats the bird, it's gross.

Oh, and spoilers.
