first of all, on that radio shack deal posted above.. it's not $40 out the door. it's a $10 coupon for purchases over $40. $60 - $10 = $50, then you get a $10 gift card for future purchases.

second, the $10 coupon is in the "entertainment book", which you would need to purchase to get this coupon. the scan of the coupon says no copies. the bar code area is photoshopped to include a promotion code.

you can probably get by using the coupon if you're a douche and want to try though

Was told that the faceplates were only for winning the tournament last night after being told they were for preorders ten minutes earlier.

I know it's a longshot, but I also got screwed on trading in games to cover my preorder - I asked the kid to match Blockbuster's trade in, but he rang them up normally anyway (trading Call Of Duty 4 ($20+20%=$24) and Stranglehold (8.80+20%=10.xx) instead of $35 and $19 respectively. Any chance I can go back and get that adjusted?

Fry's brick and mortar locations have a deal where when you purchase GTA 4 you can get the 288 brady guide for only $5 (http://newspaperads.mercurynews.com/ROP/ads.aspx?advid=32664&adid=6188152&subid=21233106&type=), it is usually $20.

I picked mine up this morning (I was the first customer in the store at 8am) when they opened in San Diego (Stonecrest). There were about 30 gameguides on the shelf and the teller at the register said they had about 50+ copies of the game. The guide is really nice with a full walkthrough and maps of every section of the city complete with lists/locations of all of the hidden items for achievements.

I think this is one of the better deals going. Check it out if you are close to a Frys, hopefully they will still have some guides available. Happy Hunting!

The Best Buy in Encinitas (San Diego area) price matched the Circuit City $10 gift card for me.

ALSO..... if you preordered MAKE SURE that they reimburse your full amount on the preorder price! When I paid my $5 down they charged me the $5 plus tax. When I looked at my receipt once I got the game they only credited me back $5 and none of the tax I had paid.
I brought this back up to them and they gave me my money, but just think if they did this to 100 other people preordering in their store. I'm sure that this BB had about that many, if not more. Then add that missing tax to the thousands of others who preordered at BB but didn't check the receipt. You get the picture. Even if it seems like chump change... don't let BB keep it!

The girl at the counter simply told me that the game came with a $10 gift card.

Also, my receipt doesn't show any indication of there being any sort of price match, so Best Buy may, in fact, just be matching Circuit City's offer as a standard sale.

Purchased the SE version from buy.com, with the $25 off coupon, for a total of $56.99. Opted for free shipping, but hopefully it will come soon, as buy.com has been pretty fast in terms of shipping in the past.

I wasn't even going to get the game, as I was quite disappointed with the last GTA. However, the excessive amount of positive acclaim that has been given to the game these past few days has made me change my mind. I just hope I actually enjoy this GTA.

A good thing about having not planned on purchasing GTA IV is that I did not have to patiently await the release date, as I never really followed the game's development progress.

SE is a box by it self, then the license plate is shrink wrapped by it self. (placed on top of the SE box. Then they are both Shrink Wrapped to a piece of cardboard w/ my Amazon.com Shipping information (atleast in my PS3 version)

I had the entertainment coupon mentioned above and a previous $50 RS gift card (from cell phone purchase back in Jan)
So I gave him the coupon and he rang everything up and the system would not take the coupon, just the $10 gift card promotion. So I said "OK". Then he rang it up without the coupon, this totaling $60 plus "free" $10 gift card. Then I tried to pay with my $50 gift card, no go, system wouldn't allow it.
So he called his manager and he suggests to sell me something for $50 then credit it back against GTA.
So he does that (some $49.99 bluetooth headset) but then overrides GTA to $49.99. So I got it completely free (no tax) plus a $10 gift card.
The whole thing took 20 mins, but it was worth it! 8-)

She was so busy chatting with some guys at the counter that after I paid, she put a Special Edition in the bag. I took it walked out as fast as I could without looking to obvious. So i got the Special Edition plus a $10 gift card for $63.86 FTW

I think the BB > Circuit City Price Match might be YMMV now. I bought my copy of GTA4 earlier this afternoon during my lunch break. After hearing about them matching the CC deal, I decided to go back after work.

The CSR didn't even look at the flyer I brought in and started punching away on the register. After a few minutes he told me that for some reason the SKU he was entering wasn't valid anymore. I think he went back to talk to one of the managers and he came back and asked me if I was fine with them just taking $10 off. No complaints from me!

My Amazon order just got here, even earlier than expected after it was bumped up from the 5th to the first. They used some independant shiping agency or something, a guy in a minivan delivered it... called before he came too because he couldn't find the place. :D

Now this is VERY YMMV, but for anyone in the Reading, Pa., area, the Wyomissing Wal-Mart is selling GTA IV for $50. They had a couple 360 versions still at the register (the CE version is $90), and some PS3 versions in the case.

Like I said, it's Wal-Mart, so please don't go to your local store and then yell at me when they don't have this deal (based on history, I'm sure it's the only one in my area that has it). Just thought I'd post this for anyone in beautiful Berks County (CC was cleared out from what I could tell). I think this special edition is selling better than others because 1) it's more than the standard special packing and crappy extras DVD that you never watch and 2) it doesn't cost over $100, like the Halo 3 Legendary.

Agreed, plus my 360 always randomly displays the "unable to read disc" message and that gets really annoying having to restart the game and not being able to save... if i have a choice of either system with a game( except shooters), i always pick the PS3 because the 360 is really unreliable. At least i will until there is a good deal to trade up and get the elite which is a lot more reliable.

You go way more stuff with this SE than any other that i've ever seen. I almost always use my debit card on amazon, which you don't even need that to buy on there. All you need is a bank account that they can draw funs from, and everybody should have a bank account.

i was meaning in the past. look at rare games for both the ps2 and xbox, ps2 version is worth more most of the time, and i'd imagine it'll end up that way in a few years for this gen as well.

Last generation, there were far more PS2 owners then Xbox owners. With this generation, both consoles games seem to drop prices quickly and GTA 4 will keep some value no matter what system it is on for a while.

Although ps3 was quicker to hit 12 million systems sold.. 360 is expected to sell more software because it has a larger base (only in the U.S) but gta4 will sell more systems for sony. now take it from ps owners who grew up with the gta franchise know that downloadable content doesnt mean anything (even though we will recieve content also...) PS owners know 99.9% of the people who play gta dont finish the game itself its just that massive. Add in multiplayer who cares? Maybe xbox owners are new to the gta franchise so i forgive you for not knowing better :). I didn't want this in this thread but you are wrong so I am going to correct you.

1. You might have picked 2 games(including 1 sport game that ALWAYS drop like a lead weigh, 1 that was buggy as hell, therefore no one wants it and every wants to get rid of it, Supply and demand) that dropped quickly but Ps3 and Xbox360 generally stay the same. Also places like GS/EB help set the resale prices(and of course trade-in) because w/e they sell it for someone is going to look to sell $5-15 below it, maybe more if they are looking to sell it quickly.

I was referring to that when I asked for numbers, is it selling better on PS3 than Xbox 360 ??? IDK, that is why I asked if you had proof.

If it is I would probably credit the number of PS2 owners that played GTA3, SA, and VC. They are then probably MGS fans, so with this release and then MGS4 in June it is a logical upgrade for them for the PS3. Quite a bit of people don't own either console so this would be their first next gen system, they would want to go with PS3 because it will have the games they liked from their previous console.

It's plain obvious the download content is an extension of the game and more content means you get more off the game. IT's not free, but you get the option and priviledge to have the bigger/longer game.

That is all speculation. The only thing confirmed is the exclusive 360 content. Nothing official has been confirmed for the PS3.

And yes Oasis, you def started "the fanboy comments" by bashing the PS3 version. Everyone else was just giving there reasons for y they chose the version they got. No one was bashing the other system until you showed up.

Like I said in an earlier post, I'm sure both versions are fine. I chose the PS3 version because 1) I prefer the Dualshock controller much better, plus I grew up playing GTA on the dualshock and loved it so why switch now?

2) The PS3 WILL have downloadable content at some point. Its one of the biggest games of all time so of course they will have DLC for the PS3, it will just come after the 360. I personally wouldnt buy it anyway so i dont really care if they do or dont.

3)And yes i prefered the box art for the SE of the ps3. I collect boxart and this is a welcomed addition.

4) I love my 360, but its way to unreliable... im on my 4th one so far and now the one i had just keeps displaying "unable to read disc" messages. So i just went with the safe bet this time.

See how this works, i didnt "bash" either version... i simply stated reasons why i chose the PS3 version. Lets see if you can all do the same.

There, fixed. Apparently, you're a newby gamer and dont' know what it's like for first party companies to fall. People buy video games for games, not to worship first party companies who host (or compete to host) developed games.

maybe one day you'll realize sony is just a console hardware manufacturer. Maybe other first party companies will have their time (looks like MS will be up there soon), and maybe their style of bringing out games and publishing will not be as great as when sony was hosting as the great console manufacturer. I think it's more correct to say that, If sony released a console that was for the mass market in terms of price and technology (graphics being not too high and just a few times more powerful than a ps2, but not too weak like the wii, and sold for as much as 250$), then MS and Nintendo wouldn't be competitive today. I dont know why the majority of people are getting this game for PS3 instead of 360. It is a no brainer. This game is better on 360 because of the extra content and online features. Better graphics on the ps3? probably. I will take extra content any day over pretty graphics.

Does that sound like bashing? All I said was to ME the 360 version was a no brainer because of the exclusive extra content for the 360. I even complimented the ps3 for having better graphics for this game!

2) The PS3 WILL have downloadable content at some point. Its one of the biggest games of all time so of course they will have DLC for the PS3, it will just come after the 360.

Yeah, I jumped in a helicopter and headed there the first time I played. Jumped from the chopper perfectly on the first try- took me 2 minutes to realize I couldn't climb the stairs because I was standing on the wrong side (and completely drunk to boot).

I even said i could care less about DLC, im not planning on getting it cause i dont think we should have to pay another 10 bucks to get something that could have been included with the game. that goes with any game not just this one. the only exception is rock band cause that obv cant come with hundreds of songs on it already.

All i was saying is that sony knows how big this game is and they wouldnt let microsoft get all the money from it. you have to figure its coming to the PS3 at some point.

The PS3 version looks and plays great... but, we had to do a PS3 twelve step abortion to get the thing to load/install on a 40 gig PS3. Uninstall, disable network, etc... pretty strange.

the DLC for Xbox 360 could be a time exclusive or a permanent exclusive. There is no way of knowing. So saying the PS3 will likely also get it is PURE speculation. If Rockstar says it's exclusive, then it stays exclusive. Just like MGS4 being exclusive to PS3, Xbox owners can easily say the game could come to the Xbox 360 in the future because it could be a timed exclusive. The possibly of a game/content being released doesn't make people wrong who say it's exclusive on another platform until the company officially announces that it's being ported.

They paid to get it first and for an undisclosed period of time, if you don't think that RS will try to get money from PS3 owners, for DL content you are sadly mistaken. They already will have the content they just need to move it over to the PS3, money in the bank.

Not to harp on this issue, but MS did not "pay" Rockstar $50 million, they loaned it to them against anticipated DLC sales. In other words they "advanced" them the money, much as a record company would do with a musician.

This was still valuable to Rockstar, since they got money to work with at a time when they were hurting for cash, and presumably they're not paying much if any interest on it.

Nevertheless, despite the two or three guys on here who keep going on about how they will never pay for DLC, we all know that it will sell, and MS will end up being out of pocket far less than $50 million in exchange for exclusive content (which may or may not eventually make its way to the PS3, depending on the terms of the deal MS and Rockstar struck).

i thought about this one until i read the shirt was size large. i haven't been able to wear a large shirt since like 1989. Some brands i can wear an xl, if it's an xl tall, otherwise i usually end up with an xxl, mostly for the length. Glad i went with the amazon preorder though, the GTAIV license plate is sweet! Now if i could just somebody to trade/sell me a sealed N1KO plate, i'd be all set.

Looks like your wrong about them paying 50 mil just for DLC according to the link dfo posted. The 50 million was more of an advance i guess.

I did google it just like you asked and all i saw was it saying that 360 was getting the first fall DLC. thats why i was hoping you could provide me with a link because maybe im missing something. Plus it would make your argument stronger if you had some proof, instead of just saying that the PS3 version will NEVER get any DLC and then not backing it up. I would be shocked if that really did happen.

No one was saying the PS3 version of DLC (if it does come to the ps3) is going to be free... thats just dumb. The person said he wouldnt be suprised if it was cheaper for the PS3, but even that wouldnt happen.

Since GTA4 was originally supposed to come out last year, most of the details from Microsoft's DLC buyout is 5-6 months old.

I know what was widely reported at the time, since I followed it very closely because I thought it was a shrewd move by Microsoft. They pretty much effed Sony over, and as I mentioned earlier in the thread Rockstar was quoted as saying to play the complete version of GTA4 you'll need to get the Xbox 360 version.

I neither have the time or interest to dig up 6 month old links on subjects I know I'm right (based on what was reported). Some fansites have reported PS3 gets the same DLC later, or different DLC, but that goes against what Rockstar has said, what Microsoft has said, and the $50 million exclusivity deal between both parties.
