To me, that was the best game on SNES.....and I want to play it on the wii. It would be that game that I would actually steal my friend's Wii over and play it non-stop.

COME ON NINTENDO....LET'S MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!!!

*Meant an updated version of the game, or a second version. Seems like Mario has had 3 different karts and a thousand and one ways for him to complete an adventure, might as well make another RPG!!!!!

1. Did this really need it's own thread?

2. It's not going to happen, not for a very long time. In fact, it will likely be one of the last games released, long after sales of full priced games have slowed down to nothing.

Let's start a petition. That shit always works.

Sadly, they will probably wait for slowing sales to release it, a petition is never a bad idea though.

Did this really need to be posted?

If you don't want to make it happen, then get out the way!

My apologies, I meant for Nintendo to re-do the game or make a Mario RPG II

DS would be nice too

I second this!!

But wasn't there a thread already regarding this? My imagination maybe.

Good game, but honestly it doesn't need a sequel.

Especially since Nomura started taking the reigns at SE... I really don't want to see a gothic Mario doing Matrix-style karate against 3 androgynous dudes.

Come on.....EVERY Mario game needs at least 3 sequels. Maybe 4.

i looked at the first two pages of a search before making this thread, so possibly it could be on the 3rd or beyond possibly....

regardless, mario doing combos with the use of the wii stick sounds like good ol clean fun to me!

shoot, they could even incorporate Big L, since sometimes it seems like he's NEVER around...

But it was for a remake, rather than a sequel.

I would like both!

I heartily agree with Rocko. But unless I'm mistaken, I believe he is a bit like me, and more a fan of portable games. I'm much more likely to play games on my DS than consoles.

Honestly, though, in terms of production costs, I can see a VC port happening before a DS remake, although didn't I hear something on the Infendo podcast about how none of the complex games have been ported, games that require Mode-7 and so forth? Forgive me if I'm wrong, for I don't follow the VC games. The games I want -- Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, and Mario RPG -- haven't come out yet.

Come on.....EVERY Mario game needs at least 3 sequels. Maybe 4.

Not to burst anyone's bubble, but... I don't think Square is planning another Mario RPG anytime soon, and they're the ones you would need to be asking.

Consider these the indirect sequels.

The Paper Mario series is pretty awesome. Thousand Year Door = Amazing.
They are the closest things to being a "Super Mario RPG", since well...they kinda are.

Mario & Luigi series is also good, but let's wait and see if a new one comes out eventually. I would love to see a Mario & Luigi console version.

But I don't see Mallow and Geno coming back anytime soon :-(

I do wish that Mario RPG would get it's ass on the VC soon. I have a tradition and I play Super Mario RPG every summer. I don't feel like hooking up my SNES :(

This. According to the credits for Super Mario RPG, the copyright holder for Geno is Square, and I'd have to imagine that they've got the rights to Mallow and all of the other characters made specifically for the game as well.

I do wish the original game would see a port or rerelease; I got about halfway through on an emulated copy once but lost my save file and never restarted it. Having a chance to own the game legitimately without paying through the nose for a copy (and an SNES) through eBay would be great.

Pbbllttt. I tried playing this when I was 16 and pissed and hated it for being overly cutesy. I tried playing it when I was 20 and more accepting and hated it for being boring. I tried playing it when I was 26 and hated it for being simplistic, overly cutesy and boring.

If they made a sequel, it could have Mario walking back and forth and pooping on everything and it would be better. The poops could have cutesy eyes and attack Bowser in a simplistic way. At least I wouldn't be bored.

Even if it had kept that name, Paper Mario is no more a SMRPG sequel than Super Mario Bros. 2 USA is to SMB. Needs more Mallow.

Yeah, in all fairness I don't belong in this thread. I played SMRPG about 2 years ago and was thoroughly unimpressed. It was kinda fun, but just boiled down to pressing "A" a lot like every other NES/SNES-era Squeenix game (note: I am putting on my flame retardant suit as I type this). I think that by adding additional platforming and puzzle elements, the Paper Mario games really improve on that formula to the point where it's a lot more fun.

I totally know how the nostalgia thing works though. If I had played this game 10 years earlier, it would probably be one of my favorites on SNES.

As I said before, I really don't think they need to make a sequel. However there were a ton of puzzle and platforming elements in the original game. It has a ton of sidequests to break up the "routine" RPG gameplay. It's not the perfect game, but when it came out it was one of the best available, it even lacked random encounters (which in my book is make or break for an RPG, random encounters suck).

People love the game because it is of very high quality, not because of nostalgia alone. Paper Mario games are pretty much the same as Mario RPG... so I don't know why people differentiate so much.

Truth.

Back in 96 it was totally: OMG SQuAREZ is MAKING MARIO IN A RPG. But trying to play it again today is a total let down. I still think its a decent game but the uniqueness has long wore off and all that's left is nostalgia (which I personally have plenty--my first game I bought with my first paycheck ever).

I never liked SMRPG. I mean it just seems like the most generic rpg with nintendo characters inserted.

Sorry, my vote goes to Paper Mario and Mario and Luigi.
