Try your local Gamestop. Microsoft/Psyclone/Monster are all good, usually for under $8. Somewhere in this topic is a list of all the Xbox games in HD.

IXOS is also good (similar quality to monster). This is what I use for my xbox (got them with it), but these are more common in Europe than here so it's unlikely you'll find them. But if you do, the quality is good.
I also recommend modding your xbox, but I can't refer you to any specific methods or I'll get another infraction for facilitating piracy or whatever.

The only part of the monster cables is they get so tight to the tv that it almost feels like I'm going to break the tv when I try to unplug them

The first party cables do the same thing. It got to the point where I didn't even bother trying to take them out until I got my 360.
