View Full Version : NEW White Official Gamecube Controller
http://gonintendo.com/?p=39892
Hopefully Nintendo won't drop the ball and release a white wavebird as well. I'm fortunate to have 4 wavebirds (thanks to the K-Mart clearance a long time ago [Metroid Prime Bundles]) but I know a lot of people are looking for new ones.

I'd be more excited with a US release, though you could always import. Now give me a white wavebird that runs on bluetooth and I'll bite. Maybe update it with the CC buttons and bigger d-pad too.

Well, that looks cool and all, but no wireless at all? Hell, I'd even take Wii remote connectivity at this point. Eh, if they come stateside, I'll get one (or import), just to have another GC controller should something happen to my wavebird.
Hopefully Nintendo won't drop the ball and release a white wavebird as well.
I hope they drop the ball and release white wavebirds.

With a little longer cable at 3m. Someone said the original was 2m in length.
Is it just me or does anyone else HATE wired controllers now? They should release a white wavebird with rumble FTW!

I still say they need to make a white Wavebird with the IR port from the Wiimote built in. Then I could start up games of Brawl without having to use a stupid Wiimote.

No need for those extensions I bought, they get annoying to set up time after time.

See statments like this confuse me why would you be happy that there are less options for you. If you don't want wireless don't buy a wavebird but being glad there isn't a new wavebird when it would be better for others just seems silly.

Wired GCN remotes > Wireless.
I have a Wavebird and an orange GCN remote, and I rarely use the Wavebird other than in certain games. I can't stand no rumble and the split second delay.

You know if you really want white controllers theres always those knockoffs on ebay that are $7-10 a pop. They look exactly the same but no gamecube logo.

I've seen them in person and they look good enough but never got to try them. Won't be a bad deal if you aren't ever going to use them. By that I man that you use the official controller and your 3 friends can use the cheap ones hahah.
Heres another interesting ebay find

Why some of the Wavebird hate? I could understand if you're playing a game that requires split second reactions (i.e. Brawl), but the lack of rumble and the delay isn't really that bad otherwise.
But I digress, this looks great but I already have 4 GameCube controllers. Like Strell, give me a "new" Wavebird that includes bluetooth syncing with the Wii and rumble and I'm sold. Better yet, allow them to be used in GameCube games in addition to those previous features.

Is there a split second delay? I never really noticed it with mine but now you've got me wondering...my main gripe with the wired controller is that the cord is so damn short, I can't sit on my bed and use it cuz the wii is too far away. I had the same problem with my ps2 but that's gone now that I have a ps3.

I haven't touched my 4 wired GC controllers since buying 4 Wavebirds. Wireless > Rumble. And using it with Brawl online hasn't kept me from winning any matches. Of course, my Wii is also sitting on a shelf 6' above the floor...so wireless is pretty important to me.
I hope they do come out with new Wavebirds, although I probably wouldn't buy any unless one of my current Wavebirds die or the new Wavebirds have features similar to what Strell listed earlier.

you all know this shit any coming here and there will be no wavebird version, because that is what fans actually want. We will prob get Nintendo decals for the Wii Fit board and NOA will act like they parted the red sea for us.
Well, at least it's something.
I'll be honest... the Wavebird is great, but I prefer the wired controller. Maybe it's the rumble, but I just like it better. However, I'm not really comfortable using them on the Wii just because of the vertical set-up and the extremely short cord.
Though, oddly, I have three Wavebirds and three wireds... and all three wireds have issues. Sticks basically dead, shoulder buttons broken or sticking... each one has it's own problem. Wavebirds, which have been used more, are completely fine. Always thought that was weird.
Regardless, if they aren't going to release new Wavebirds (preferably with added Rumble, which should be easy at this point), a new wired with a longer cord is good enough for me.

The GC controller is the only console/accessory I've ever purchased based on color alone. I had no need for another controller, yet when I first spotted Spice, I made her mine. And now whenever I need to put the MKDD beatdown on family and friends, I wield my sweet spice and we work those foos like a parttime job. I love you, Spice.
While I'm not keen on white controllers as they show use too easily, I could go in for a sixth GC controller if they come up with some newer colors. Maybe a robin's egg blue? Or a coke bottle green.
My two wired GC controllers are onyx and spice. It's like it's always Halloween!
I didn't know the spice controllers were hard to find.

haha ya my story with the spice controller is that I was younger and had 2 controllers at the time. I wanted a 3rd, so my parents surprised me and bought me one, and when I looked at it it was ORANGE. At first i was kinda mad cause I wanted a black one at that age, but after they convinced me to just use it I opened it up and started playing some smash bros. After only a matter of minutes it became the most favorite controller I had ever owned and remains as just that to this very day. Good ol' mr. spicey. Wired controllers >>> Wireless too (unless its the 360 :P)

And before anyone asks. Nope, no blue LEDs. I don't have a friggin clue how to do those. This is a first attempt. :) Not 100% perfect, but not bad for a first try. The Wii is done in a brushed aluminum premium vinyl. Shimmers in the light. Kinda cool.
That wavebird looks very well done. I'd always thought that if they resume production of GC controllers they should look exactly like that. The Wii logo should replace the GC logo to emphasize that they are compatible. If they did that I'm sure it'd fly off the the shelves.

Also pay attention to the inner neck of the joysticks, you have to intentionally spray in there (CAREFULLY!), they won't pick up enough dye just from you spraying the surface.
After my phailed modding attempt (what started as fixing a broken control stick ended in 2 controller's worth of buttons and screws in a plastic baggie with two controller shells + boards) I think I'm gonna redeem my broken controllers. I'll post plenty of pics of the whole process if I do.

the Wii is victim of it's own success. There were supposed to be multicolored Wiis there were also supposed to be Wiis that could play DVDs but these were all things that were coming when the initial rush for the Wii died off.. 2 years later that still hasn't happened so I doubt they'll ever come.
Well colors I would still hold out for but WiiDVD which is what I am/was holding out for I doubt it'll come. And for this I weep.

I need a new Wii controller.
Sometimes in Brawl, I feel as if I'm doing something and it doesn't register it completely.
Where can I obtain an import?

Play-Asia has the ones we're talking about for $35 after shipping.

I need one and can afford it, but I can't get past the cheap-ass bit.
Meanwhile my madcatz wavebird knockoff is driving me up the damn wall. I haven't played anything needing it in weeks.
I'll just keep pestering the hell out of Nintendo.

I emailed Nintendo and got one of their stupid cookie cutter responses back that doesn't really pertain to what I was asking.
Hello and thank you for contacting Nintendo,
This product may have been announced in Japan, however,so far, there hasn't been an official announcement of a release outside of that market.
There are many reasons that Nintendo or any other Japanese publisher may decide to release a game solely for the Japanese market. These can include difficulty or cost of localization, the size and financial strength of the publisher, and (most often) the idea that the game will simply not be accepted or enjoyed in other markets.
However, there are (like you) real fans of those games or franchises in this market who would love nothing more than to see these games on store shelves here. I understand (and sometimes even share) your frustration! Having said that, please understand that those fans constitute a very small portion of the gaming public, too small to justify the costs associated with bringing a game here.
Of course, you never know what the future holds, as evidenced by the appearance in this market of previously Japan-only franchises like Advance Wars and Fire Emblem. Keep an eye on our website (http://www.nintendo.com (http://www.nintendo.com/)) for all the latest news as it becomes available.

Here's another pic, for good measure (read: I'm showing off).

I've got another Wavebird on its way, so once it arrives I'll be re-painting that one as well. Once that's done, I'll order one of the controllers in the OP and, voila! Full set, with a wired controller for Brawl-type games. :D So, thanks to Alcaron and Corvin for the tools to actually pull this off.
I was considering doing the LED mod, but, damn, those LEDs are tiny. And I mean tiny! But here's (http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=5413) some literature for those who might peruse it.
Back on track: how much do these white controllers show grime and use? My DS is pretty poor when it comes to displaying blemishes - do these have the same tendency? All in all, I suppose it's too late to turn back now.

Is there a link with instructions to make my wavebird white? I know i have to paint it but I would like to see a step by step so I don't screw up and the type of paint.

Damn, Joe I'm jealous. I've got one 1st launced wavebird. After a while it rattled when I shook it. Recently the rattling stopped but it still does weird things like a double tap on the A button when I press down once and the analog stick is looser than [insert arbitrary CAGer's mom].

Well, the link that Corvin posted a couple of pages back (this (http://alcaron.blogspot.com/2006/12/noir-360-wireless-controller.html)) is very helpful for the process, even though it's for a 360 controller. Most everything carries over from one controller to the other.
The brand I used was the DupliColor Vinyl and Fabric Dye, which I found at both a local Napa Auto Parts and a local Checker Auto Parts. Shouldn't be problematic at all to find.
If you're worried about taking apart the Wavebird, you likely shouldn't be. It really quite easy to figure out how it's assembled. All this said, if you have any specific questions, feel free to PM me, since I've gone through the process twice now. :D

Stupid americans.
Over here in the UK, We've had wired and wireless white GC controllers for ages. They're not official, and are manufactured by Uk game shop, er, GAME. They're 14 pounds, which is 30 dollars

The gray wavebird is much nicer with the Wii than those painted ones...
Also consider the Wii stand which is platinum.

You said that just to hurt feelings, didn't you? ;)
Considering every other Wii controller is white, I happen to think white controllers are the obvious choice.

I'm sorry, I think you put in a good effort.
I just hope you did that to the hideous silver ones rather than the fancy grays.

Is it just me or does anyone else HATE wired controllers now? They should release a white wavebird with rumble FTW!\
I love wired controllers. Simplicity often means that things last longer. Plus I don't have a football sized McMansion living room, nor do I have toddlers running around.
