Shouldn't it also say wireless router as well, unless they advise you leech off of our neighbor's unsecured network... lol

Also theres two on amazon, ones $50 and the others $100, different models. So I'm guessing this is the $50 one, so not a big deal if it goes off sale by the time I get my 360...

I can vouch for the fact that it does work on the 360.
I used it on my original xbox and am currently using it on my 360.

It does have some strange limitations though.
It does not use WPA security. BUT that can be changed by a manual firmware flash that you can find on the web. It actually changes the firmware to a D-Link model.

Also, it will not work unless you have your router set to broadcast your network name. Not sure why. Have not had time to mess with it to figure out why.

As does Logitech's Wireless Link Play which can be found for $20 online regularly.

These things are wireless ethernet bridges. This will work with ANYTHING with a ethernet port. You might have to set it up on a PC if you have a tricky setup. Bad thing about the adaptor is it has the easily circumvented WEP not WAP security.

just search "Logitech Link Play" on ebay. They go for around 20 bucks. They work just fine, been using one for about a year now and works great. My brother and cousin have recently picked theirs up off of ebay and have no complaints either.

WOW, I didn't know this. I'm using mine for my TIVO and am pissed that I had to use WEP, but I'll have to look for that firmware.

As for needing to broadcast your SSID, I can vouch that mine works just fine without broadcasting. Unless you're saying there's a need to broadcast if the firmware is applied.

Either way, this can be used as a standard wireless bridge for anything that has an ethernet connection.

I use one and for games, it's great. Not sure you could stream video, though - as it's (b) speed and not the faster (g) speed. They do make a (g) one, but it's way more than $20.

Not that it matters much but it's actually "Play Link", not "link play". But that minor quibble aside, I too have had one for just under a year (found out about it here on CAG 8-)) and it works great! It actually seems to be a little more stable than my wireless network.

I just ordered this new on eBay for about the same price. From what I understand it works perfectly with Xbox 360 - just don't install the software that comes with it.

Keep in mind that with those, one needs two additional plug ins for the AC adapters (one on each bridge) and from what I understand the two bridges need to be somewhat close to each other for a solid connection.

Well I have mine on two different floors on opposite sides of my (medium-sized) 4BR house. I dont think most people would have to worry about the range factor.

I purchased one of thoes play links and couldnt get it to work with my 360 in another room. It just would not connect to the net. so now it sits under my bed in its packaging. But I have heard good things about this one. Thanks OP I think I'll bite.

I used to have this one before I switched to a wired connection in my new house. Since this one is only b and not g,a,or n you can not use it for streaming from your computer it will only do online play and that will be slow at times.

Does it work for you? From my experience, the WGA54g is a terrible product. It works for some, sometimes, but it can be a real headache. Judging by the Linksys help forums, a lot of people have had problems with it.

I had one of these and it worked fine with my Xbox 360, but like other posters have said, it won't work with WPA. So when I flashed it to the D-Link model that does work with WPA, I was able to connect to Xbox Live with no problems, but was having problems downloading and joining games due to NAT strict issues. I was using a D-Link DI-634M wireless router.

Finally just said forget it and bought the official Xbox 360 wireless adapter and haven't had a problem since. Still a major rip off for a $100, but its nice not having to worry about NAT issues anymore.

Because you were directly comparing this Xbox wireless adapter to the linksys you have. This product is a wireless gaming adapter, what you were talking about is a router. Those are two very different things. You need both to get online with an Xbox. The WGA54G is a wireless gaming adapter made by Linskys (comparable to this xbox wireless adapter), but it sucks.

To everyone looking to buy this, there's a real easy way to get your 360 online if you have a laptop with wireless connection. You could bridge the two connection and voila, save some money.

MS apparently has a fix for this:

Is this one better than the REAL wireless adapter for the 360??

As has been mentioned, this one only supports WEP natively, while the 360 adapter supports WPA - significantly more secure. As someone said, there is a non-MS solution that supposedly gives you WPA by a process that includes reflashing the device.

I saw a couple of these for like $20 or less at the CompUSA liquidation on the last day, but passed because of the lack of WPA, and from my rapid in-store research, the unsupported patch process looked a bit complicated with a decent chance of bricking the unit.

The 360 adapter also supports 802.11a, so you can use it with a dual-band a/g router and dedicate the "a" radio to the 360. MS recommends this for less interference and greater bandwidth for use in applications like video streaming.

I read online and found that it is better to just get a wireless router that is compatible with DD-WRT firmware, which turns the router into one of these, but with a lot more speed and range...

http://www.geeksaresexy.net/2007/10/02/how-to-cheap-wireless-for-your-xbox-360/

My cousin says he does this, since he has 2 lynksys routers. If I do get one that is compatible with DD-WRT I'd have to ask him from some help. Anyone know of this, or know of a good, cheap router that works with it...

anyone in doubt, cease all thoughts of uncertainty! i've had the original adapter for 5 years now and it still works like a charm. for some reason, my connection has been stronger with the 360 than the original xbox...o_O

but at $39.99 you cannot go wrong.

Ok here the deal with the firmware hack...

http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,13360873

My adapter came with version 26... the hack is to go from version 21 to 22 with the result being a MN-740 changed to a D-Link product. Well I tried the hack with no result as it said my MN-740 had the most recent update so it would not take the firmware flash. So I had to rewrite the code to fool the update program to change the firware from 26 to 27.

Once I changed the code the firmware change took and now my MN-740 thinks its a D-Link 3420. After that I updated the D-Link 3420 firmware to version 2 that supports WPA security. My end result a wireless adapter that works with the 360 and WPA security for $39.99.

If anyone wants the recoded files PM me and I will email them to you.
