Goddamn, deciding whether or not the receiver I'm looking at is good enough is frustrating...
Edit: It literally just got easier. I asked the company I'm buying the speakers from whether the receiver I was looking at was good enough and they said that it was. So that's just great!

Markman, the situation with me and MGS was I initially wasn't a fan of the first one. Felt it was a bit overhyped (not as overhyped as Ocarina of Time) mostly because I just wasn't into stealth gameplay; however, I WAS judging impressions on an early demo. So I ignored MGS for a while. When I got the demo of MGS2 with Zone of the Enders (a game I truly wanted and really love now), I decided to give it a shot. I found myself getting into it and really liking it, so I ended up buying it shortly after. I ended up beating and liking MGS2 a lot. I went back to MGS1 on PS1 and although I never had the chance to beat it (bought it at a bad time), I do like it now. I started to get into Metal Gear liking the third, Portable Ops, the Acid series, etc. I was originally not into stealth, but I like it now (but I still dislike Splinter Cell).
I played a little Sega Superstars Tennis earlier. Not much, but had some fun and progressed more in Superstars mode.
Yeah, I badly want more PS3 consoles, but I'm broke right now.
As for the PS2 upscaling on the PS3, I'd say it varies. Some games look good upscaled, some look terrible, IMO. Some are just a blurry mess while others look much sharper and cleaner.

Man, I would so accept that offer for pizza, but I'm several miles away and if I showed up, it'd just be kinda awkward, so maybe next time.
But I'm really, really excited about the Office.
Damn, I just bit on HoD 2/3 for $20 @ amazon. Also pre-ordered Summon Knight DS which was in my Gold Box for free shipping/time buffer. :p

Uhm... well, I'd like Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword, since I haven't gotten that yet and can plow through it really quickly. I'd also like Contra 4 or Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness, but NG is what I want most right now.
Anyway, I think I'm finally entirely decided on what I'm getting for this sound setup... speakers, sound card, receiver, cables... everything. It's gonna be wicked sick, and it's a perfect setup for the DS, PSP, and (most importantly) the Dreamcast. The XBR doesn't like Dreamcast over VGA coz it has this weird flickering effect goin' on, but when I plug the Dreamcast into my computer's monitor via VGA, they make sex. It's beautiful. So pumping stuff like Jet Grind Radio through this shit should be an experience.

I made two orders from the sale, both shipped at the same time.. My DS3 was here in 7ish days and my second order arrived today. P-A said it could take up to 21 days!
Gah, I ended up getting Ikaruga for XBLA...and it's great! The graphics are a solid upgrade over the GCN, rumble is ok, though I could do without, Leaderboards, and Replay Recorder are all pretty sweet. Wasn't able to play with anyone in two player but all those features actually made it worth a pick up for me.
Also played more Burnout Paradise. I do wish there was a way to opt out of a race if you really mess up and don't want to bother finishing, or cancel out of the crash cinematics. Of course, I prolly should RTFM, but I lazy. :p

It really does vary. I've had stuff take up to 3 weeks, and I've gotten stuff in a single week... it's annoyingly inconsistent, and that's why I really don't like dealing with Play-Asia as much as NCSX, but 20% off was too good to pass up.
And I'll check BB for Disgaea... I thought that shit was $40, but if it's $30 there, I'm definitely tempted.

I still think I wanna get Ninja Gaiden DS first, since Digaea PSP isn't something I'd get to playing right away... especially since I still have yet to play Crisis Core. But it's something to keep in mind, coz the original $40 price tag scared me away from Disgaea PSP.

Army of Two sucks. It's a poor game with a very clunky partner AI system that feels more like dragging someone around rather than some kind of FPS innovation. If you have a friend that you want to co-op with, you might have something. If you're like me and don't have local friends that game, pass it up. The whole thing was pretty disappointing actually.

Rei should be happy, I bought DW6 today for PS3. What happened was I traded in Virtua Tennis 3 and Super Swing Golf at GS and got $15.40 store credit (stupid GS almost didn't give me the 10% bonus, since they screwed up). I saw DW6 there for $54.99. I also had the 25% coupon off of a used PS3 game. I used it along with my Edge card, so I paid $21.76 after tax for the game. Not bad at all getting rid of two games I either never played or rarely played anymore. Only played one game of DW6 though. It's all right.
I actually went to GS to get Sega Rally Revo or maybe Lost Planet with the coupon.

As far as the controversy goes, I don't see how people can make up their minds when they know very little about the plot. It's a game about zombies which is set in Africa. Deal with it.

I bought DW4 on release, but never touched the 5th. Might pick up 6 when it hits bargain prices, they're fun games but I don't see the need for owning them all.I actually got VT3 long ago (back when Meijer had a 15% sale) and paid like $42 for it. Well, at the time I didn't have a hole lot of PS3 games, so it was fine. The game is very good, but since I'm now playing Sega Superstars Tennis (I have a liking for those Sega characters), I don't see myself really playing it again (and if I want to play, I'll just play the demo really quick).
Actually, before I went to GS today, I went to Target. My Target had F.E.A.R., Formula One: CE (A very awesome game, but I already own it) for $15, NBA Street Homecourt (I might buy it when it reaches $15), and so on. I shouldn't buy more games, but I will.
Yeah, I would usually trade my DW games in and upgrade a lot. I actually wasn't going to get DW6, until I was able to get it for a good price, so I could not pass up. I played DW Gundam way too much on my PS3, so buying it would probably be a good idea.
Anyway, it sucks because I might not get GT5P at launch since I got DW6 today. I was suppose to use store credit to get that game instead, but I could not pass up this deal.
Warhawk night owned tonight. 20 or more CAG members showed up (maxing out my server) and it was crazy.
I'll admit I have a huge grudge against Tom Clancy games and normally avoid them, but the new Tom Clancy flight game actually seems very cool IMO (read about it in GI).

DW6 plays so much differently than the previous games it takes a bit to get used to. Once I did I think I actually liked the renbu system more than the system in previous games. Samurai Warriors 2 is still better though.
I do have some complaints about the game. Mainly how only like half the characters have a musou mode, and some are even just palette swaps.

It definitely plays very differnt, but I'll grow to like it eventually.
Don't know where else to put this.
Anybody remember seeing (I think it was at E3) that "Guitar Hero Air Guitar" belt buckle thingy? Well, it's on store shelves now for the bargain price of $29.99.

You can't import them and keep em there. There's a link disc mode where you insert the first game into the PSP and then as you play songs, you unlock shit in DJ Max 2...
The first game has a better song list tho, definitely. I like both, but the first one wins.

Question: Which of the Fire Emblem games are absolutely essential? Like, are there certain entries that are just much better than the rest? My guess is that the Gamecube and Wii games are the ones that need to be had just because the console-ness of them makes them more epic and generally enjoyable, but if there's a good reason to have the 2 GBA ones... well, I wanna know.

I will. Is there seriously no Hi-Def release? I would've loved that stuff on Blu-Ray. A real shame. On tuesday we're picking up Juno, and Futureshop is throwing in the Screenplay (which is like $20) along with the 2-disc edition, which contains a digital copy that I can watch on my ipod.
If all DVD's/Blu-Rays came with Digital Copies, I'd be a very happy person.
And I picked up Atonement on HDDVD for 7.99 on Friday, so when I watch that, I'll probably grab There Will Be Blood, so I can see just how badly the Academy Failed for picking NCFOM as best picture (which I liked, but nothing more. I'll probably watch it a second time so I can "get" it more).
Chac(or anybody): Have you seen Pan's Labyrinth? Its fucking phenomenal, and stunning on Blu-Ray. Its worth every cent. Go get it now. It's my favourite movie of all time.

The Blu-Ray is great. The picture-in-picture commentary is cool as well, though sadly its the same one thats on the DVD.
I've seen the movie 5 times (3 regular, 2 commentary-because I didn't think the DVD commentary and the Blu Ray commentary were the same thing, but It was great to watch again because of the picture-in-picture stuff).
I think so far the only movie I've enjoyed anywhere near Pan's was Children of Men. It's brilliant.

Fire Emblem for GBA= Play (It's the best FE released in NA)
Fire Emblem SS for GBA= BURN,DESTROY, KILL (Worst FE released in NA)
Fire Emblem for GC= Play(Remember its FE for babies)
Fire Emblem for Wii= ( Will Rape your Children with its difficulty)
Play everything except SS for GBA.
Play the GC first because it will get for familar with the series.
Best Movie Of All Time= North by Northwest.
Alfred Hitchcock= Movie Genius.
Then move onto the wii one to finish up the way the game plays, and then finally go onto the GBA one, cuz you need to save the best for last.

Well here's the thang: See, I played through all of the first GBA FE, and most of the second GBA one, but I haven't played any of the console ones. What I find lacking in the GBA ones was that the musical score just wasn't there, and the sprites were just... boring. The environments were never very interesting either... very basic. I'm not saying basic is bad... just that the graphics weren't convincing... if that makes any sense.
Edit: Oh yeah, I also didn't like how sparse the story seemed to be...

I don't think FE was ever going for Graphical Fidelity, and the score is not something that is better in PLII.
I personally think it has great music, FE is all about the strategy, and story, and character development. It never has been about graphics or environments.

From all I've read about the Wii version, I'd say the PS2 is indeed the way to go.
Shame they didn't make the Wii port all it could have been. No reason it couldn't be 16x9, 480p and have all the graphical filters etc. And no reason that drawing with the Wiimote shouldn't have worked better than an analog stick.
That said, sounds like it's still worth playing on the Wii for anyone that doesn't have a PS2 as the reviews are still ok. But I'd just go with the PS2 version if you have the option for both as I had no problems with the controls in it whatsoever. Lack of Widescreen is annoying--but I played it before getting my HDTV.
At any rate, it's a great game. Easily in my Top 5 of last gen.

the thing about the renbu system is that it makes it more mindless than it already is.
usually the extent of the action is choosing which attack to do at the right time, and timing it correctly so you don't get hit in the back. it's a pretty simple formula that's worked for all the warriors games... unless you want to do those crazy tag combos from orochi warriors. =)
but with the renbu system you can just have a ball with your square button. more renbu just means more square button and it's more mindless than before.
slowdown happens a lot in co-op. and the slowdown is BAD.
but yeah, the unlockables.
the lack of musou modes is terrible. i much preferred dw4's system where each kingdom had a campaign, with a few variations here and there. levelling up your horse, are you serious? i don't care about no stupid horse. that's why i like orochi warriors, where impulse + speed character with air dash made it so much better. and no ultimate weapons... meh.
the clone characters? terrible.
actually, the characters in general. how you gonna give SSX a bow? how you gonna change xiahou dun's weapon to a giant club or whatever he has now? and what's with the spears for all? they changed them all so much. i was pretty mad about that. there were a lot of characters that were changed for the worse, making them really suck.

Crazily busy weekend here. But we took a trip to Chicago yesterday to see the Oriental Institute (named at a time when everything that wasn't the Americas or Europe was the "Orient"--stuff from Israel, Assyria, Babylon, Egypt, etc. Nothing from Asia whatsoever as we know it today) which was very interesting. Then, my wife and I wandered around downtown Chicago in the cold rain and had a great time.
I preached and taught a Bible class this morning and have another service to preach for tomorrow. And school is beating us down. Maybe later this week I'll get back into MGS. The good news is that I got rid of the tank! Now it's time to sneak around and find a remote missile!

HOLY FUCK.
Contra 4... they fucking nailed it. This is bliss beyond anything the series has offered before... this is as good as the best of Metal Slug... dear God, I can't believe what I've been missing out on. This seriously puts even Contra 3 to shame. I like that this is more colorful than Shattered Soldier (which was still an excellent game), too. Wow. This is unbelievable.
The only thing keeping Contra 4 from being like... the best side-scrolling shooter ever is the lack of Contra III as an unlockable... but hey. Fuck it. 4 knocks the shit out of it.

Seriously, that game is awesome, but maybe that's because I'm old school. And I love shmups.
Old school has nothing to do with it. I love those kinds of games, Ikaruga just pisses me off. It is one I can't get into. I wish someone would make another Heavy Barrel.
I played more...you guessed! RSV2. It is fun. I am going to be playing more P3 and other Playstation games. Lair, Motostorm and MLB '07 The Show are all unopened.
I borrowed Contra 4. It was too damn hard. I couldn't get past the first level. I gave it about 15 minutes before I gave it back. Do I lose at games?

Today included wrapping up Level 3 of Band Brothers on Pro, and beginning the ass-kicking that is Level 4. Also put a few minutes into Soul Nomad before being utterly destroyed by enemies who were impossible to chase after since they could one-hit my party on the run.
Pfft, I play everything once it comes in.
My backlog is only like 4 games these days. This one is full of lies.

Was it on Easy? If yes, then yes. If no, then not entirely. Even I managed to beat the game on Easy. Unfortunately, 15 minutes is nowhere near enough time to learn the patterns.

1) Yep, Contra 4's difficult, but it's not the frustrating kind of difficult. There's no cheap AI or anything like that.

I finished that game in a day, and beat that last boss on the second try... totally easy, except for that one cheap move that made me lulz.
To my credit, I was sick, and had nothing better to do, so I beat the game, and then unlocked kuniochi mode for kicks.
Burnout Paradise is quite fun. Only up to Class B, working towards A.

I'd rather have the PS2 version than the PSP one, because the controls are just better with the analog stick as opposed to the PSP's nub. They also dubbed one of the songs into English that was originally in Japanese, which is kinda ghetto. The graphics are also better in the PS2 original.
But if you can only get the PSP one... yeah, it's close enough that it's still well worth playing.

time to play more Fatal Frame b4 I sleep and have nitemares, whoo!!
Anyone here have/play Gitaroo Man Lives! for psp? If so, how is it?it sux and you kno why?? becoz of the shape of the PSP screen.
if you've played Gitaroo man before, notes come from the top, bottom, left, and right, and you hit the notes when they hit the center of the screen.
since PSP is wide screen, the left and rite notes appear on the screen before the top and bottom ones do.
and when you play rhythm games you do not wait until you see the note lined up with its end-mark to hit the designated button... you acknowledge it ahead of time and let your fingers do the thinking while your head anticipates your future moves.
so due to the discrepancy in on-screen times for the notes it really tends to mess with you pretty bad once u get to the harder stages.
I think I'll start out with a little Lost Odyssey tonight, and maybe close out with some Burnout Paradise.
After the broadcast version of Dexter, which is now my wife's favorite show...

No, it was actually the system. I swapped it out for a different one right at the end of the return window, and SotC runs perfectly on this console.
I went through three different copies of SotC beforehand. The first one was a black-label, too. Now I've got a GH instead. :(

Anyone here have/play Gitaroo Man Lives! for psp? If so, how is it?It rocks. One of my favorite music games ever. I love Gitaroo Man for its quirkyness and unique gameplay, but I still like the music in Parappa for PSP the best.
I'd rather have the PS2 version than the PSP one, because the controls are just better with the analog stick as opposed to the PSP's nub. They also dubbed one of the songs into English that was originally in Japanese, which is kinda ghetto. The graphics are also better in the PS2 original.
But if you can only get the PSP one... yeah, it's close enough that it's still well worth playing.I disagree. I actually sold my PS2 copy after getting it on PSP. The main reason I prefer it on PSP is because the PSP analog nub works so much better for Gitaroo Man also IMO (traditonal analog stick just doesn't work as well). Although the screen ratio may be a tad different, but then again, if you are playing the game on an HDTV (using the PS3), it doesn't make any difference really. Also, the PSP one has two extra songs in co-op, so it's the definite version for sure.
Also, the PSP one is just a lot easier to play which stages you want to (the PS2 one is kind of cumbersome).
EDIT: Yes, InuFaye is right, we need a GGTCast revival. Just who would replace SL4IN though? I wasn't an official member of the cast, although I made two appearances, but I'd be willing to be one.

Heya GGT! Its been a crappy last few days for me. I've been busy at work, so I haven't had a lot of time to play much lately. I've just felt so tired from all the hours I've put in this week, so all my free time has been spent with my girlfriend. She's been kinda depressed about alot of things, so I've been trying to give her as much attention as I can.
She better enjoy it while it lasts, tho. All I can say is that when I get that triple with that MGS4, I'll be all "Huh? Girlfriend who? Solid Snake don't need no bitches!"
I think I better start giving my PS3 a little more attention as once I get GTAIV, there may not be much o' dat Triple gaming goin' on until MGS4.

Speaking of which, I should finish Killer7....Dan is definitely awesome. I haven't really played around with Kevin much - if his thing is stealth, then I can't imagine using him all that often. I also haven't used Con all that much on account of the fact that I can't fathom the importance of running speed in a rail shooter. Coyote seems like a pussier version of Dan, Kaeda's alright but has an annoying god damn lag pulling her gun out and putting it away, and Mask is a mixed bag. Grenade launchers are definitely fun, but I think that heavily limits the amount of blood that I get.
I'm mostly getting by with Dan for now. All of his stats are level 3 right now, but I've put a bit in to Mask.

I wouldn't recommend skipping the US game, but I would recommend throwing it in the damn garbage. It's that bad.
If you're looking to start with the imports, ... well, 9-13 are the essentials. I believe that with 11, they started incorporating more thorough beginner modes into the game, which are very, very useful for getting on your feet, coz the game is tough at first. If I had to recommend one to start with, it'd be 13, just because it's the absolute best and it has a good variety of genres.

I ask:
Which is the better version of the game, ignoring outside factors? Basically, I ignore achievement points, shitty trigger/bumper buttons, which system my friends are getting the game for, etc. Does one version run better? Have sharper graphics? Better sound? More content? Stuff like that. So really, I'm not loyal to just the 360 or just the PS3.

Cool. You come up with some crazy shit, but it's pretty entertaining when you do.

further proof of my art$$$ness... even though I aint a $$$ >_<
... so anyone looking forward to school ending? mine ends this thursday, but at the end of the month we have to show our portfolio (ie. artwork, videos, designs etc.) and it's nerve racking as hell... if you don't prove you are working hard you basically get kicked out of the school. I'm good this semester since I have been working too hard this semester >_< heck, I may be curating an entire art show this summer for my school... fuck.

Yeah, you have no idea. I'm in all 300 level classes this semester and while it's not difficult, Financial Management and History of Economic Thought are soooo fuckin' boring. I'd rather just play games kthx.

Yep. The curse of being a double major is that you gotta take 2 majors worth of boring classes. At least business classes are easy as fuck for me.
Ironically, I don't plan on pursuing either of those majors in grad school. Right now I wanna go to law school at like Michigan or Northwestern or some nuckin' futs place. Or do both an MBA and a JD. Do you realize how many digits my starting salary would be? 40.

Watchu doin' up at U of M?
And yeah, that's pretty much the ideal just because for grad school, it's as Tier 1 as you're gonna get, and the social atmosphere's better than like... anywhere. And Ann Arbor is nice.

I live in the area. My friend used to live across the street from The Big House. It sucked on Saturdays after partying and trying to go anywhere when we decided to face the day before us.
I like SNES.
