I REALLY need a bigger HD for my 360. I just wish wish it was a little bit cheaper...

Yep, still about $50 too much. They broke the never above $1 per gig rule (thanks for the correction). ;)
Especially when you consider you are using it to buy the stuff they want to sell you.

One nice this about this set is, you can sell the migration cable on ebay for about $30-40 after you use it. Then sell your 20 GB HD for about $40 and the price doesn't look to bad at all. I had this in my gold box last week and wish I had remembered to order it when I got home.

Agree with the other posters; I want it but I wish it would come down a bit more before I bite.

I just wish I had the money. I would love to have more space on my HDD.

Youre kidding right? Why are people buying this?
I got one for FREE when I bought my Elite. Stupidity of the casual consumer is mind boggling at times. lol

I simply cannot justify spending $150 on something that should be about $80. This is one case where Sony comes out looking good. I'm going to have to break down eventually, though.

Isn't this just a regular 2.5" Hard Drive in a special case? You can just buy a 2.5" internal, and switch it with your 20GB one.

120GB for about $65.

I'll have to breakdown eventually too...just not enough space on the 20gig. If this appears in my gold box this week, I'm in.

Unfortunately, it's not that simple.
Without going into too much detail, M$ made sure you couldn't just swap out the HDD for a larger one. If you try it, you'll end up getting your box banned from Live.
The console makers use peripherals to make up for some of the losses on the sale of the consoles - unfortunately, the X360 HDDs are way too obvious of an example of this.

That sucks. I'm liking the 360 less and less every day. I'm glad I held out for a PS3.

The hard drives being expensive is only one of very few negatives about a 360 compared to a PS3, that I can think of.
but, to each his own...
I can't really blame them overcharging on peripherals when they lose hand over fist for so long on the console itself. I'm still happy with my 20 gig hard drive because my 360 sees all the computers in my house and streams content. Really all you need hard drive space for is for XBLA games and XBLA movies.
But if/when Microsoft ever wants the 360 to become a serious hub for digitally distributed high def content, they will need to come down on their hard drive prices.

- massively overpriced hard drives
- paying $50 for Xbox Live Gold (could buy another game every year for that price)
- digital rights management
- unacceptably high failure rate
As anyone can see, I own both, and I play the 360 a lot, but Microsoft has some major issues on their hands.

yup i bought a 160 gig hardrive for my ps3 for $85. 150 bucks for a 120 gig hardrive is STILL a ripoff.

wait, what?
of course it was free. Because you spent 450 dollars on your xbox. What about people who already had an xbox before the elite was announced?
either that or you're kidding. Then, you got me good.

I have no problem blaming them for overcharging, since you can use any HDD on the PS3 and they were/are losing more money per console than MS ever was.

couldn't agree more.
I was curious that my friend had hooked an external HDD to his xbox through USB. i'm not sure if it worked, but he claimed it did. is that a possible solution to paying for the proprietary part from MS?

Sadly, many consumers don't realize that
1) the migration kit is included with all 120 gig hard drives;
2) if you upgrade to an elite, you can request a migration kit from MS, as long as you have the serial numbers for both your elite and your old premium.
I fully admit I sold mine on eBay for about $20 after I upgraded to an elite.

Unfortunately, no. All you can do with an external drive is read media (like music or photos). You can't save game data or DLC to it. Thus, one would still need a larger internal MS drive to store their stuff.

i'm no ps3 loyalist but the hard drives being expensive is only one of MANY negatives about a 360 compared to a PS3, that I can think of. --From a hardware and peripheral standpoint.

What the regular price of the 60 Gig be $140

this hard drive being so overpriced is why I sold my premium back when the elite was announced and then just bought an elite later that year

yet another example of a ridiculously overpriced accessory from Microsoft though
Indeed. Fortunately, there are more affordable alternatives for the wireless adapter.

Honestly.. $1.25/gig is just way to much nowadays. I love my 360, but hate the outrageous peripheral prices.
