My sealed one is definitely real. I don't know how to tell if the used one is fake, but it has a very official-looking hologram on the front of the case, as well as a very non-bootleg-looking instruction manual.

Mine's still in the mail, actually. I'm expecting it by Thursday. I assumed it would be shrinkwrapped, but maybe not. Here's hoping.

I think ConsoleSource has started selling boots then, b/c I got mine from them and it definitely lacks the UPC code and the code on the inner ring.

But, yeah, it does work like a charm.

I got mine in the same condition from consolesource.com but I also did not get a bootleg copy so I'm happy with it.

EDIT-looks like the site is down at the moment, but they have instructions to an exploit where you can burn a HD Loader disc yourself and load it into your PS2. They even have the disc image available for download on their site too. Check back later and the info should be up.

I've seen no mention at all of the creators offering discounted upgrades but there is a psychological aspect to it. If you feel as though you're admitting to piracy just because you found the convenience of HDLoader's legit application to be worth the purchase it carries through that you wouldn't want to unknowingly pirate HDLoader itself.

Umm, no, we're not having an important discussion. Nobody was discussing downloadable copies of HDLoader before you opened your mouth. There was no "discussion" about it. Apparently you have nothing better to do than post random shit in other people's trading posts, just so you can build up your posts and pretend you aren't a stupid newbie. All of the discussions going on were relevant to the items I'm trying to trade. While your post was compelling, it really had nothing at all to do with my HDLoaders. My trading post isn't an open forum. You may not give a f*ck about the fact that I'm trying to trade my HDLoaders, but I really do need to get rid of them.
