Assuming it's the 360 version, you need to check it on your console. Enter your code in the redeem code in the dash and if it is valid, it will let you review what you are redeeming for before you confirm. If it is done on xbox.com, it will automatically redeem the code so probably best not to do that!

The truth was that they considered printing a limited run for stores in addition to online sales, but they have said that if they don't get 1000 orders (minimum) they are canning it. My guess is that they will, but I doubt they will print more than 2500 max.

Plenty of Rozenqueen preorders don't do great, I think their recent Phantom Brave deal only sold in the 300 copy range (they still have preorder soundtracks now). So 1000 orders for them is pretty impressive. Plus they have First Class Mail available for $3.09 up to Canada, so they're really kinda unbeatable anyways.

And what was the declared value on the outside of the package? I'm quite sure it was underdeclared just like Goomba does... You can't fault Rozenqueen because Customs cut open the package and found your receipt :roll: IIRC the last couple of receipts they've packed with my packages haven't actually listed $$ values, so that shouldn't be an issue anymore :bouncy: Even if it is, $19.99 should be under the taxation threshold.

Gombay, no sorry to say I am all out of the Xbox cards and haven't seen any reliable places to buy them cheap lately. As always, I will list them on my site when they're in stock, so if they're not in stock I don't know where to get them. The last time they went on sale for $30 I was at work and they sold out in less than an hour. I'm guessing they'll go on sale again around Black Friday (end of November) but no guarantees of course. I'll let you know.

And what was the declared value on the outside of the package? I'm quite sure it was underdeclared just like Goomba does... You can't fault Rozenqueen because Customs cut open the package and found your receipt :roll: IIRC the last couple of receipts they've packed with my packages haven't actually listed $$ values, so that shouldn't be an issue anymore :bouncy: Even if it is, $19.99 should be under the taxation threshold.

TronB, as it is my understanding if anything is shipped USPS and is marked under $45-$50 as a GIFT then there are no customs. Rosenqueen probably marked it as MERCHANDISE which is generally taxable or perhaps marked it above the customs limit. In any case, it's a fine art but one I'm quickly understanding as well. Custom fees suck for sure but sometimes they're unavoidable on expensive items. For low cost items, we generally don't have to pay them though luckily :)

Gamefly Questions & Answers:

1) Gamefly sends you brand new cases/manuals with all orders. What they do is use just the disc for their rentals and then they keep all their cases in the back for people when they purchase their used copies. 99% of the time you get MINT/Near Mint copies of case/manuals.

2) The games themselves do not have any markings to show they are rentals. Occasionally some discs may have scratches or buff marks (most don’t but Wii/Xbox 360 and older games in particular will show signs of use. They aren’t marked as Gamefly games though if that’s what you’re thinking

3) They ship very fast. In most cases it takes 3-4 days to get here as they use USPS First Class Mail (just like I do).

4) As for how much the games would be, it’d be the same as always for service charges and shipping. If you want to send a direct request I will lay it all out for you. Thanks man!

So it won't bid until around 4-6 seconds before the auction ends with your Max Bid. eBay uses proxy bidding which means if you win the auction, you typically win it for less than your Max Bid :) I am sending you your invoice now. Oh, that was fast. Heh... Well, I'll probably order a gorilla pod -- those things look nifty for traveling -- I do have a regular tripod but it's not like I can take those places very easily.

The camera apparently has a sleeve that's in the box which is all that I need -- I just want to prevent scratches deep when it's in my bag because I assume it's glossy.

The camera itself is also only like 200 grams, so I can get the cheap $15 gorilla pod and be on my way... a 2nd battery would be nice or a car charger... but... really... those are just uselessly expensive.

The only downfall to the camera is a lack of usb charging.

You're right; it came in a few hours after you posted. I was getting scared since my coworkers kept saying that Belgian customs are greedy bastards and I should be expecting to pay some hefty taxes, but in the end there was just a 10€ processing fee. Oh and thanks for the little note, that was neat :D

Concerning the Zune it's really a surprising device; so light and sleek. Same goes for the software, I could watch the way the screen animates when a song is playing all day. I don't care much about apps, so the form factor and ease of use pretty much trump the iPhone's.

I don't know how UPS judges their brokerage fees, but I recommend never using UPS for cross border shipments. It breaks any deal I've ever thought I had.

I once had a computer that was the price of the video card being shipped to me that I won on eBay. UPS then changed the value of the item and wanted to charge me the value of the computer I paid for in brokerage fees nearly. I bought the computer for like 200 and the brokerage fees were 150.

Thankfully, they shipped the item to me before collecting the fees, so I told them to shove it.

Game Fanatic, a word of advice... If you're gonna get it shipped phone them on the lowest value that the item needs to be to not get charged brokerage fees. I think it's $20, but $60 if it's a gift.

On top of that, if you get it expedited you will not have to pay the brokerage fees -- generally in UPS terms that means free expedite shipping.

With customs, it's pretty much a gamble. Sometimes you might get hit, sometimes you won't.

With marking items as gift, IF it passes as one, it's only up to $60 CAD that you are exempt from taxes. So for your item, it'll be 150 - 60 = 90. You'll have to pay GST,PST, and/or HST on $90 plus $5 processing fee. This is based on Canada Post.

Not sure about other carriers.

Okay, enough was explained about customs I think but yes, Gift items up to $55-$60 are not generally charged customs. I can't claim gift status for all items as I'd get in trouble as explained, though for smaller items it shouldn't be an issue anyway. I also can't mark down say a new laptop as being worth $60 as that'd set off major red flags (not to mention you wouldn't be able to insure it for more than it's marked). So enough about customs. I will always try to repack items into smaller shipments if I think it can save you money.

They typically sell out rather quickly (an hour or less) though some of the items are available for set times (1 day-2 days, etc.) or even weekly sales around this time. Many of the sales are online only of course (this is why I prefer to shop with Amazon and Best Buy and such instead of Wal-Mart as I hate their in-store service and their online services are questionable at best).

The OP says around $3 for one game, but then I read a post that said 10 Wii games was $12, so I can't see it being $6 for two games. I'm probably reading something wrong somewhere, just need a little clarification!

elevature (great avatar by the way) - Shipping is $3.00 for one game and around $5.50 for two games. You get a slight discount for the weight for average games when shipping two though $3.00 per game is a good rough estimate.

The games will always differ. For DS games for instance they often have lighter games (cartridges) but heavier manuals/cases for some reason. Also, Xbox 360 games tend to be heavier than PS3 games for whatever reason. $3.00 per game is the average though. It's entirely weight based though :)

** GFC Update: 11/05/2009 - Lots of New Changes Coming!**

After spending the good portion of the week shipping orders and sending invoices, I have realized that with the large influx of new customers that I will have to make some core changes to how I run my services. I haven't totally concretely decided how I'm going to do this, but I will lay out a few of my ideas:

A) For Direct Requests, to speed up the process I am currently coding a new system that will do a few things different:

1) Only registered users will be able to request items. This is because I have been receiving a ton of SPAM messages from my direct request page. It's easy to delete them, but then again it's also a big waste of time. So requiring only registered users to submit will speed things up for me. Of course spammers can register if they really wanted to, but it'd take them more time and therefore I'm not too worried about it. Anyone can register at any time, so it's not like I'm blocking anyone from using the service =)

B) As it stands right now, you can request to pay with direct funds (non-Credit Card) or Credit Card payments. I can't really charge you for using a credit card as it breaks specific Paypal/Credit Card rules and laws, but I can give you a discount for paying with direct funds. So what I'm considering is to have the option to pay up front with your direct request submission. Meaning, you can request an item and pre-pay it all at the time you send it. This will allow me to order your items right away and invoice you if there was anything calculated incorrectly on your side, or if I need you to pay addtional service fees/shipping etc.

C) Along with the pre-payment option, I'm considering to have GFC credit of sorts. So for instance, you could pre-buy $100 worth of GFC Direct Request Credit and simply have it deducted when you order things. This means that I could more readily supply your items and you could pre-buy the credit when CAD is higher, when you have extra money in your Paypal, etc. Likewise, I could simply refund you any time I needed to with the GFC credit without worrying about exchange rates, Paypal fees, etc. If you want to stick with Paypal/Credit cards you could buy GFC credit, or you could use your credit card (but you wouldn't receive the discounts).

2) The other major change is that I'm going to be starting a separate page for non-game related direct requests. This is a big change not so much in that the system will be different, but the name, site design and that sort of thing will be different. This is mainly because MANY users who are not gamers are turned off by the "Games For Canada" name, as well as non-Canadians thinking they are excluded. I'm going to keep GamesForCanada.com of course but will be opening a Fashion-Specific service as well as a general goods service. For you regular GFC users, you can still use the GFC site as the other sites will simply be mirrors of the GFC services with re-branded names and looks. Whew...

So that's it. I haven't decided entirely on the changes, but what I'm going to do is try to catch up all the way with all current orders and code these changes into the background. I won't really use beta testers so much this time as the site will just naturally progress with the new changes.

Oh and having a more automated system means my Rewards system will be a lot easier to implement. I'm one step closer to completing that (I know it's been a long time coming, you're still earning points even if you don't think you are). Thanks guys!

It'd be nice to save the fees for using a credit card for PayPal as they do add up sometimes. Also, how will your new system take into account the shipping fees up-front? Because usually, I think you look at the weight manually, and send us the invoice accordingly. Just wondering if the system would be smart enough to calculate all those fees so we can pre-pay.

constellation, the payments without a credit card would be largely the same: Paypal direct (Gift option or direct funds), Money Order through mail (always an option now but one that most people don't use as there is more time involved in mailing a money order to me) and any other things I can think of (Amazon gift card codes for one could be exchanged on a 1:1 basis. So if you have a $25 Amazon card you want to send my way I would transfer you $25 in GFC store credit, etc.).

As for shipping. I will have the buyer (you guys) estimate shipping. So if you're ordering a game for instance I will have a section that says "How many games are you ordering" and it will estimate each game at a rate of say 6-7 ounces shipped. For other non-gaming related items I'd ask you to estimate shipped weight based on Amazon listings, or general knowledge from other websites. Or you could simply pre-pay a set amount (say $10.00) towards shipping or whatever. Then, if I get the items and they are overweight or underweight I could adjust them with the standard invoice. Doing this would mean that a lot less of the DR's would really need me to manually type them all out, and it'd speed things up for you guys. It basically would take the invoicing off my hands (which takes a TON of time with the current system) and would allow me more time to actually develop new services, new coding for the site and of course packing and shipping.

Once I start some of these new things I will see how they work. If they don't work then I don't have to use them, but it's a good trial to see how it goes. You shall see the fruits of my labor soon enough ^_^ Feedback is always appreciated!

Black Friday is the last Friday in the month so still around 3-4 weeks away. I should have at least the basis of the new system done by them.

In the meantime, I went ahead and fixed the CSS font styles for the direct request page. Why didn't any of you tell me it looked funny with HUGE text and weird fonts. I guess the CSS for it got messed up somehow. Now it's been fixed :) Next step will be to allow you to log into the site so you don't have to re-enter your personal data each time ^_^ Coming soon!

telepathy, I really doubt it. I'm working in a huge tournament almost all day on Black Friday and I'm going to see a free "They Might Be Giants" (my favorite band) concert in the afternoon. I try to stay far, far away from stores on Black Friday (as I don't like being trampled to death by stay-at-home soccer moms). Online deals though... those are going to be insane this year. Amazon starts generally at 3AM EST or 12:00 PM Pacific, so definitely keep an eye out for those!

Nah, Amazon is out of Washington if I remember correctly so they operate on PST. Since they start the sale at 12:00 midnight PST, that's 3AM EST. So yeah. I gotta get up really early that day too (thinking I may pull an all-nighter if the deals are worthwhile). We'll see :) Black Friday was INSANE last year. I assume with the current economy it'll be as good if not better this year.

Oh yeah, I totally ship on Saturdays. In fact, it's one of my busiest shipping days since even if I work early, my wife has it off from work so she can drop them off for me. The post office is limited hours on Saturdays in the States (open till 12:00 PM - Noon) and Sundays they are closed entirely, but they do ship out Saturday morning which is a Godsend.

LOL. If I have some wrapping paper I will gladly do that for you :) though I'd still have to mark it on the box what it is.
