This is hopefully my last day without my quickbooks software. I'm going to re-image my computer tomorrow and hopefully I can reinstall my 2008 version. Otherwise looks like I'm going to have to suck it up and start using 2010 and start fresh. Not the end of the world, but I like having all my orders and history in one place. I'll keep you posted. Sorry my computer decided to blow up guys :(

It's more important that you are okay goomba :)

02-01-2010, 04:03 AM
Thanks telepathy :) I appreciate that.

Guys, because I'm going to be furiously recovering from this system crash (why else would I be up at 3:00 AM on a work day) I will probably take a few days to catch up on DR's before I list any new lowball items from your requests. I will continue to make sure I check the code of the lowball system (as well as make a form that will tabulate all the winners) and then we can add a bunch of items soon.

My main priority is to get the DR system up and running and catch up on the 70+ orders. Once I do this, I'll resume the GYROS updates and we'll be back on track.

I'm currently working to update my backup files from Quickbooks and it's been a bit of a rocky experience but it does seem like in the end it will work. I'm crossing my fingers!

Hey Goomba, I was just wondering how much you would charge to send a core 17 920 + P6TD Deluxe MD to Australia (Total worth ~ $500 US)

I know shipping fee's can be a little rough, and I'm trying to determine if it would be cheaper to just purchase the items from a retailer over here

goomba478
02-01-2010, 11:27 AM
Dex_BN are you referring to a motherboard / processor combo? If so, do you have any estimate on what they'd weigh combined? If you want to take a stab at it I'll send you an estimate for everything including shipping to Australia. Thanks!

JoJoBlue
02-01-2010, 11:48 AM
Well if you have an amazon gift card, purchase one online or get one from Swagbucks.com then you can just Email me the code and I will credit it to your account on GFC. If you are using it in conjunction with a lowball order or a direct request order then I'll just count it as if you were paying with USD. So $10 Amazon GC = $10.00 USD and best of all there is no credit card processing fee. So even if you buy the GC with a credit card, you won't have to pay anything to send me the code. Works great =)

You can buy them on Amazon.com ^_^ Let me know if you have any more questions about it.
Oh, I'll have to do that next time. Then, I won't have to worry about Paypal.

My controller arrived this morning safe and sound, so thank you very much. =)
I'll rep you when I can, since I haven't been registered for 30days yet.

Honestly I'm really not sure, I'm building my first comp ATM. I imaging around 1/2 a kilo for the processor + stock cooler, and another 1/4 of a kilo for the motherboard.. But that's a REALLY rough estimate, I may be completely wrong :S

*edit* and yes I was talking about the motherboard + processor combo sorry. I'm looking at the one on newegg ATM.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.325066

*edit* sorry again, that's a total approx weight of 1.47 Pounds

goomba478
02-01-2010, 01:28 PM
Dex_BN you're looking at around $22.00 USD shipping (I estimated it at 2.5 pounds to accomodate for cardboard packaging) + $3.00 Service Charge to Australia. So altogether the price of the item plus $25.00 USD. Let me know if you're interested. You'll likely want insurance too, but I'll leave that up to you. Thanks!

** GFC UPDATE **

More good news everyone. I have completely transferred over all my business software and all my past records over to my new (ish) laptop and things are running smoothly once again! For now I'm not going to worry about my desktop as much and will instead be trying something new: I will use my laptop as my main business machine and will dock it to my monitor/keyboard/mouse at the office as if it was a desktop. Then when I have to go out on the road, I'll bring the same machine with me that way I've always got my most recent files/emails/webpages to work with.

In addition, I will be creating a lot of control-panel type things on the actual GFC website for my own use that will let me check up on order statuses, direct requests, auctions, etc. This will be an alpha-type programming experiment that will eventually become your individual user pages where you can check your orders, see past orders, check your rewards points, GFC credits, etc.

Exciting times! The computer mess slowed me down a good 5-6 days but now we're back and rolling. Once I get home today I will start processing the last few days worth of Direct Requests and will again start shipping out your packages. Now that my laptop is set to work with my printers/label printers, we'll be back on track. Thanks again for your support and understanding :)

telepathy

That's good news goomba. I remember when I got a laptop, I basically stopped using my desktop altogether. It's just so convenient since you can bring it anywhere you want.

Yeah seriously telepathy. I almost wonder what the point of having the desktop these days. Right now I'm using my laptop monitor as my second monitor, my desktop widescreen monitor as my main monitor and everything is running smooth as butter. I'm liking this :) The funny thing is that it actually is running better considering my laptop has 4GB of RAM (my desktop had 2GB) and a meetier processor too. Funny how that goes.

Well in any case I'm getting down to business. Going to start looking through my DRs and getting things back to normal. Thanks again!

The only reason to have a desktop is if your desktop is significantly more powerful than your laptop, but it still suffers the issue of portability. Just like you, my laptop outpowered my desktop, so it gets canned in favour of using my laptop as my primary. It can be good as a backup though sometimes.

goomba478
02-02-2010, 12:16 AM
In my case the laptop is more powerful so yeah, it sort of defeats the purpose. There are some good things about desktops though. Having multiple DVD drives, multiple harddrives, easily swapped cards and such, but for what I use my computer for (processing orders, website development and simple Photoshop tasks) the laptop does just fine :)

** GFC LOWBALL UPDATE **

I have gone ahead and put two new items you guys may be interested in into the lowball. The first is a 12 Month Xbox Live Gold Card starting at $30 and the other is Left 4 Dead 2 (PC) which I'm starting at only $20. It's brand new! Go bid :) More items coming soon. Today I worked at my University job, then I spent the afternoon/night doing my business taxes for my state and now I'm doing your DR's and packing items.

Keep in touch ^_^

Turns out I underestimated the weight of the board significantly, just talked to a mate that got the same package.

The total weight of the 2 items is close to 4.5kg
or 9.9lb

What price would I be looking at now, inc insurance?
Sorry for all the hassle Goomba :*(

goomba478
02-02-2010, 12:54 AM
Oh dex_BN, sorry to hear that. You're looking at around $75 USD for shipping/insurance to Australia for an item of that weight. Not sure if that kills the deal for you or not. Let me know either way. Talk to you soon. No problem, no hassle... :) that's what I do!

02-02-2010, 12:59 AM

If you have ordered a card (or several cards) from me and haven't received them, please let me know if you don't have them after tonight. Thanks guys. I'm working as hard as I can to catch up with all your orders :) The new laptop system is really working out for me and I'm surprised how much faster my Quickbooks and other software runs in Windows 7. My desktop is a hand-me-down piece of shit & the laptop is something I bought 2 years ago. You are right that part for part, a desktop is cheaper, but I needed something portable for school & stuff. When I get around to getting another desktop, it will definitely be nicer than my current laptop.

But you should definitely have it within 10 or less in most circumstances. Thanks again!

Hey Goomba,

I just wanted to let you know that I've placed my first GFC direct request order, paid in full .. albeit by CC -- but oh well.
The website DR process is flawless (or at least from what I've experienced, so far from my lone transaction).

Let me know if I managed to screw anything up somehow.

Thanks for the feedback Apollo! There's still a lot more to come. I will go check out your DR in a few minutes. Thanks again! Happy to have you on board!

Lockescythe, I appreciate the offer but a near mint copy of Suikoden 1 is pretty rare as you probably know. That game alone sells for around $50. I would know because it's my personal copy ^_^ I do have it on the PSN download now, but I'm not ready to sell it just yet. Here's a recently sold one:

I haven't implemented the Rewards System yet

I was just about to ask about this.
Reason: I'd like to spend as little as possible but I've heard the blu ray Criterion Pierrot Le Fou is going out of print. Therefore, I need it now :P
I only ask because the reward system mentions "discounts" and I have a crazy amount of Canuck Bucks (even though the site says I have $0, I'm pretty sure I have somewhere from $13-15) and I'd love to get whatever sort of "discount" on this that the system would deliver.
Anyway, here's the link:
http://www.amazon.com/Pierrot-fou-Criterion-Collection-Blu-ray/dp/B002EBRFCY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1265219278&sr=8-1

If there's anyway you could apply some sort of something, let me know. I am an ever so loyal customer after all (which is apparent from my mass of Canuck Bucks). If you can't do anything, I'd still appreciate an invoice.

Lockescythe
02-03-2010, 02:00 PM
I know that. I was lowballing it. Because well its a lowball auction. I actually just wanted a mint box one because I have no clue where mine is currently.

The Izuna isn't worth more than 10ish IIRC.
Suikoden goes for 37+ on ebay. You could easily fetch least 40 so don't worry bout it.

So yeah I was lowballing lol.

I'll offer 30 USD for Summoner(no book) + Izuna shipped though. LMK.

goomba478
02-03-2010, 02:06 PM
To give you guys an idea of where I'm going with the Rewards System I am thinking of the following:

* You will earn 10-25% of your GFC Service Charge back as Canuck Bucks.
* Your Canuck Bucks will be used for the following: Direct Rewards Catalog (example a game may be $20 Canuck Bucks to get it free including shipping), Lowball Auctions (here they would count 1:1 as real money would, so if you win an item for $10 and have 8 Canuck Bucks, you'd only pay $2.00 out of pocket) and for fee-less Direct Request Orders (just an example: use $5 Canuck Bucks to get your next DR fee-free).

The reason I haven't implemented them yet is I want to get the core functions flawless before I go into this. I want the Direct Request forms to work perfectly (nearly there), the Lowball to be fully functioning (with output pages and such) and I want to tie up some loose ends to make sure it doesn't just go redeeming your points or issuing you points randomly :)

But yeah, my goal is to have this done within the next month at least for BETA users.

For those of you who have asked me to calculate your Canuck Bucks in the past, you will probably start seeing them show up in the GFC website within the next week or two so keep an eye on it when you log in. Again, I'm trying to make it as easy to use as possible and to give you a reason to use my services again and again, as well as return, log in and keep record of your past purchases.

You guys will like the new system :) guaranteed.

goomba478
02-03-2010, 02:08 PM
Lockescythe ^_^ I don't blame you for a second, and yes I realize it's called a Lowball auction for a reason :) Just in this particular case I'm being very specific about what I'm selling via Auction because I'm literally on the verge of bankruptcy right now and given my financial status I have to try to squeeze as much money out of my remaining stock as possible. Since GFC is more or less a risk-free business with very little overhead, I have to sell my old merchandise for as much as possible to ensure that I can keep doing this GFC thing and also as you probably know my wife is trying to go back to China to visit her family and I still need to raise about $1000 USD by 02/10. I'll make it, but I'm going to sell as many high-ticket items as I can to reach it. The lower games with under $20 in value will be the ones I typically auction :) Hope that makes sense. Thanks again though!

Lockescythe
02-03-2010, 02:15 PM

I'm not sure if any of you guys were having a problem putting bids in on the Lowball Auction, but I think I found the issue. So if you could, please go to the Lowball site and try to bid on my test item (no crazy bids just pretend it was a normal auction and bid like a dollar more or whatever. Want to see if it's working now.

Thanks!

** GFC LOWBALL UPDATE **

Okay things are looking up. I fixed the bug that was driving me nuts. Now the lowball SHOULD work properly if you are logged into the GFC site (you have to be registered obviously and use the correct login/password combo). If for some reason you're having trouble logging in let me know and I can reset your password or fix whatever is going on wrong.

Here are some updates:

1) The site will still display items that have ended but will no longer accept bids for them (this is important of course). Having the database drive the bidding is the key here and it should work now.

2) If you click an item that has ended, it will still display the eBay links and so forth but the form to bid will not appear. Instead you will receive a message explaining that the auction has ended along with a redirect link to either the DR service or back to the lowball page.

3) If you click through to an item, and are not logged in, you will also not see the bidding form and instead will be asked to please log in at the top of the page.

In addition to all of this, I also have my server keeping track of all bids so if something should screw up we'll have a backup.

Again, thanks so much guys. This week is a test of sorts and if everything goes smoothly I hope to have a ton of new items up in the lowball next week. I will continue to run these as long as I have merchandise and as mentioned earlier today will also be incorporating lowball auctions into the rewards program as well. Thanks!!

You're very welcome Wilme! Hope to do business again with you soon. In the next couple of months I'm really going to pour my heart and soul into this website to really bring it alive. You haven't seen anything yet guys ^_^

One last thing...I just realized that the Direct Request service is NOT sending the "Additional Item Information" for the items themselves. It is, however, sending the COMMENTS section at the bottom. I will fix this when I get home tonight but I have to run to the post office and store now. I'll fix it later though :) So if you are placing a DR order just remember to put the item details into the comments section. Thanks guys ^_^ Sorry about that. Told you I'm still working on it!

Oh, not that it's realistic... But Goomba, Ragnar had 20 million bidded on one item, and somehow I beat it with $20...

That may be a problem?

Funny as hell though when I saw it work :P

Also, funny enough, any number higher than 20 million didn't work!

I just realized that all the Canuck Bucks that I supposedly had before (I think it was $14) are no longer there.

goomba478
02-03-2010, 08:45 PM
RoganSarine, that's intentionally added actually (and the reason I keep a physical log of all bids). If the items go beyond a certain number they reset. People found abusing this will be permanently banned from the system, so I'm not too worried about it. I'll add more safeguards in anyhow. Thanks for pointing it out though. I'll put a max bid limit in there somewhere :)

telepathy, no worries. I have the Canuck Bucks organized in my system. They will show up once the actual rewards system goes live. Thanks!

jeffx, one thing at a time. I do plan to do a VERY extensive FAQ page. Just keep in mind these types of major updates won't come until March/April when I get laid off from my job/my wife goes to China for a month. I have a lot of plans so no worries.

telepathy, glad you found the link (thanks Rogan). I took you up on your suggestion though and added this to the first post:

Services We Offer:

1) Direct Request Service (http://www.gamesforcanada.com/direct-request.php): You can fill in any combination of items you want to buy from any variety of websites (doesn't have to be video game related). Sign up for a free account, fill in what items you want and how much they cost, and estimated shipping weight. The website will calculate all the service charges for you automatically and you can pay right away on the website. We'll order the items for you, repackage them and ship them up to you for a flat fee. Typically $2.00 USD for the first item and $1.00 for each additional item. Couldn't be easier! Best price available. Most requests are placed within 24 hours and processed as soon as we get them. No other service comes close :)

2) Package Forwarding (http://www.gamesforcanada.com/package-forwarding.php): If you want to order the items yourself, you can! You can order from any website that ships to the USA. Ship the items to our secure UPS mail box and we will repackage them and ship them to you in Canada (or any other country for that matter). Typical fees apply for this service as usual and you pay only $1.00 per package received at our mail location. Quick, easy and GREAT for limited-time sales when the Direct Request option may not be quick enough.

3) Direct Request Classic (http://www.gamesforcanada.com/dr-classic.php) - If you require a little hand-holding or if you want an estimate without signing up for an account, you can! Our Direct Request Classic service is the one that started off the GFC site. Here all items are a $2.00 flat service charge. You will receive an Email invoice with PDF attachment explaining line-by-line details of all charges and full payment options.

-----------------
Hopefully that will help now ^_^ I realize not everyone knows exactly what our services are about, so I appreciate the suggestions!

** LOWBALL UPDATES **

Oh and good news too, I found out why it was resetting the values to $0.00 on the auction. It wasn't so much the HUGE numbers that people were bidding (which obviously wouldn't happen on a regular auction) but the fact people were using symbols and letters. If you were to bid $A.00 it would accept the bid, calculate the letter A as 0 and set it to $0.00. So now that's been fixed. In addition:

1) The maximum bid is now $999.99. I don't think I'll be selling any items over $1000 anytime soon so that's fair.

2) Any bid that contains letters/symbols or anything other than numbers or decimal will have these things stripped. So if you bid $AAAA1.00 it will convert to $1.00. Hopefully this will work. Please don't purposely screw around with the bids :) Unless you want to help me debug. Only do this with the TEST items please!

I will also be implementing bans on anyone who messes with the bidding (on non test items of course). So if you go and bid $1000 on Demon's Souls, you better really want to pay $1000 for it =P If you make a mistake, that's one thing, but if it appears to be intentionally screwing with the lowball sale I will have no choice but to take away your bidding rights. I think that's fair enough.

goomba478

haha Rogan, you can have the secretary job when:

A) GFC brings in over $150 profit a day and I can quit my job
B) I pay off all my debt
C) My wife turns down the job first ^_^

Yeah telepathy, you did everything perfectly. Hope you get that price ^_~

I'm guessing it was a mistake (someone else led me on to it at some point). They eventually took it down & I'm just waiting to see some cancellation or error in the shipment somehow. But if all is well, then I guess I'm up a couple of copies of Sigma 2.

goomba478

Oh yeah of course. That's covered by the first two qualifiers (making enough money to support us long term and paying off the debt). The uniforms will be flown in from Japan and will come in two styles: Sailor Moon or Sakura from Street Fighter lol.

telepathy, much appreciated :) I did think your offers were very fair. The more money I make from GFC, the more I'll invest back into it ^_^ That's just how it goes!

** GFC LOWBALL UPDATE **

I will be adding quite a few NEW games tomorrow. They will not be technically lowball items (they're going to be sold on eBay) but they will show up in the list in case you want to bid on them. Here's the partial list for now:

All items starting at $9.99 USD on eBay:

* Valkyria Chronicles (PS3) - BRAND NEW
* Bayonetta (PS3) - Brand NEW
* Bayonetta (Xbox 360) - Brand NEW
* Darksiders (Xbox 360) - Brand NEW
* Super Mario Bros Wii (Wii) - Brand NEW

These items will be 3 Day items and will end at 10:30 PM EST. Thanks!

I will be adding more items (used mostly) on Sunday as 7 day items as well. Some really good games coming soon :)

Yeah, I know (internet is great like that). I didn't really care that much since it would immediately start hanging out in the pile of "Needs to be played & finished" games which i think is in the hundreds at the moment lol. If you really wanted it, by all means. It'd probably get some play time way before I get around to playing it.

Telepathy... What did you just potentially get multiple copies of? o.O Ninja... Gaiden... Sigma 2 price error somewhere?

A seller decided to sell his copies (note I didn't say copy) of Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 for $2.00 (+ $4.00 shipping O_O). Of course the listing eventually went down eventually. I'm expecting a wave of cancellation emails to be sent out by the seller or something equally as shitty (like the wrong game is sent out or something) but it was worth a shot anyways.

Ha, the dastardly thing about you putting items on eBay? It's 3 days early and I don't even care if someone outbids me. Normally I try to snipe auctions, but I actually just bid the maximum amount I would pay for the games :P

The majority of the Lowball items have ended now. I will tabulate your totals and include them in the GYROS update page for now at the very bottom, similarly to what I used to do in my thread. LOL yeah I lost more than $15 on it but hey it's all good. That's specifically why I don't buy games to resell like I used to. Hopefully you'll finally get those MP3 players out

I had bought them as gifts, one for my father who will be leaving the country for 3 months on the 17th. I was hoping to get them by then, but even if you send them out on Monday I think it will be cutting it very close.

Not complaining though... I can't really. Great service that I've used a bunch lately and plan on keeping to :D My fault for counting on something having to ship twice being here by a certain time :bouncy:

BTW, for future reference, do you pay taxes @ newegg.com? My mouse is dying and I could have saved $10 or so but I wasn't sure if it was worth it. Don't know how long it will be until my computer is completely unusable so I ordered quickly and from somewhere local so that I'm out of commission for as little time as possible.

Then the next day I saw Bestbuy.com had the same mouse for an absolute steal in comparison and was wishing I had done that. I assume you pay taxes with them (right?), but even then, would have saved a ton.

That's a lie Goomba, you can "ship" L4D2 out to me tomorrow! :P

Is it actually a DVD-box the size of a 360 game, or is one of those thicker sized boxes that is more like a DVD-Box set.

Emjaymj, if you EVER need a computer part, ask me first... Generally, you can find reasonable prices in Canada for computer parts.

I live outside Toronto and we got a few decent stores around her, Canada Computers, PC Village, SIG electronics (all in asian malls lol), although lately their prices haven't been as competitive as they used to be. Often my tactic has been to find the absolute LOWEST price I can find from some shady retailer I would never buy from, and use the price-match feature on NCIX to do the purchase through them... lol

But maybe there's a lot I'm unaware of. What kind of price can you get on a logitech g500? It would be interesting as a comparison.

As for NewEgg, I don't pay tax but yes Best Buy I pay 6%. Cya!

Rogan, yes tomorrow is Monday :) If you notice I wrote it at 1:07AM so in fact it's the same thing as what you said ^_^ It is just a standard DVD sized box like all the major game systems these days. Not thicker or weird shaped or anything.

Hey Goomba,

I sent a DR for 2 DVDs off of Amazon, however, I'm not sure if I chose the correct weight shipping charges for the package. Let me know if I need to add funds.

PS: I'm quite honoured to be the first one to have an item shipped using the new computer system :)

** GFC Lowball Update **

The majority of the Lowball items have ended now. I will tabulate your totals and include them in the GYROS update page for now at the very bottom, similarly to what I used to do in my thread. If you are still bidding on items just let me know, that's not a problem and I can update them later. I should have the winners list and shipping info and all that by tonight. If you could send payment ASAP that'd be great :) Thanks!

Alright sent. Hopefully my calculations are correct.

I've also sent my payment. Hopefully it's right. With those prices, I feel like I shafted you...

For future reference, if paying through Amazon, where would we send the gift cards/codes?

How much extra would it be to ship priority? If it's literally only a few dollars, I don't really mind.

Also, I was under the impression you were already using the USPS international priority mail, and I'm having a hard time finding a more "basic" shipping service than that. But realistically I only have 6 or 7 days to do and it estimates 6-10 days, so like I said, cutting it very close. Unless there's something that I'm missing here... I hate trying to navigate courier sites

emjaymj, how about this. I'm going to send your items to you Priority tomorrow and we can figure out the difference at another time. It's not much more. For the record the "Cheap" standard shipping is USPS First Class Mail. Priority is the next class up and then is Express Mail and then GXG (which is virtually overnight). So yeah... :) Thanks!

Okay that sounds like a good idea. I wasn't aware First Class was international :)

Also... what a freaking misnomer! Airlines should adopt the naming convention... first class is now the shitty seats with no legroom right beside the toilet... with a complimentary 600lb guy sitting next to you who won't shut up

goomba478
02-08-2010, 01:40 AM
Yeah it seriously is quite silly when you consider that "First Class" is the cheapest of the options in this case and that Priority Mail is actually not given priority to Express or GXG or whatever. And they wonder why USPS is having financial issues these days.

Anyone else here interested in the Fringe: Series 1 on Blu-Ray? It's a great deal on Amazon at only $25.00 . Has 5 Discs so I'm assuming something like 1 pound shipping.
Total (estimated with GFC Service) = $33.50 USD SHIPPED

Incase the shipping for everything is more, if not, goomba service fee? :P ). Im gonna be a bit short on paypal balance (and since it forces me to send an e-check only if I go over my balance), you'll get another e-check.

Hey Goomba, no word yet on Amazon's email with the Mass Effect 2 pre-order bonus code?
Hopefully Amazon will send it before the game gets here :D

One more thing, do the larger packages take longer to ship? Kind of surprised the keyboard has yet to arrive.

Edit: ME2 arrived a little bit after posting this, ahah. Your little notes always bring up a smile :)

Vhalyar, yes larger packages generally take longer through customs. It's sort of a catch-22. Items over 5 pounds are Priority and therefore faster shipping, but then they're also slower as customs takes longer to process them. You should have it soon enough though!

kinun, don't forget that 7-10 business days does NOT include holidays or weekends, so you should have it any day now I would hope. Unfortunately, I have no control over the shipping process once I drop them off with the USPS. That's why I don't post delivery times on the website most of the time. I expect you should have it soon though buddy, hang in there :) Thanks again.

I think the problem is actually my University's secure connection. I tried sending another Email to another customer and got the same error. hey goomba, just a quick question for ya; is it cheaper to receive small shipments from you, or just one larger shipment? Once I'm done school I'm going to celebrate by placing a somewhat large order at GFC (BRs, headphones, earphones, etc.) and was just curious which way is the cheapest. Thanks for the heads up!

RoganSarine
02-08-2010, 10:45 PM
GF, doesn't he split it up when sending it to you the way he thinks it's going to be cheapest anyway?

From my understanding, since it's all measured by weight, it doesn't matter.

The only reason to split the package is to avoid customs (so you don't have to declare such a high value)

goomba478
02-08-2010, 10:51 PM
bouzi, thanks for letting me know. That's great :) I'm working as hard as I can to get all the orders out lickety-split. Still hard with all my jobs, my wife's upcoming China trip and family stuff, but I'm getting it done ^_^

game_fanatic, it really depends on the item. When you're talking about games then typically you only save about $0.50 per game when shipping multiple ones. For larger items it's almost always cheaper to ship together, though you have more of a risk of having to pay customs and such. So yes, combining light items makes little difference and combining bigger ones will save you more. If you use the shipping estimator on my site you can see why :)

RoganSarine, yes you're right. If I think it's cheaper I will always split up items :) Yes it is measured by weight but if you go beyond the 4 pound mark that's when it gets complicated (Priority Mail and such). And yes, you're right about customs as well =) You really are going to be my secretary some day lol.

RoganSarine
02-08-2010, 11:05 PM
So, can I make your FAQ page yet? :P

I think people have this false notion of combined shipping because for the longest time, we all dealed with ebay where sellers always over-charged shipping to make an unnatural "reserve".

Hell, the cheapest I ever got on shipping was $6.50 and then $2.50 or so for every additional game.

goomba478
02-08-2010, 11:08 PM
Haha, I'm going to make a good FAQ page soon enough. I really want to do video Q & A's for the big questions but just don't have the time to do anything really spiffy. My wife is going to China in April and I'm also getting laid off from my University job that month, so I'm going to have a lot more time to devote to this little GFC project :)

eBay sellers definitely inflate their prices to cover eBay fees, but do often take it a bit too far. I try to be as fair as possible and cut costs as much as I can. Thanks!

jeffx
02-08-2010, 11:12 PM
Honestly you should keep your FAQ CTRL+F-able

in other words, text-only.

Unless you wanna do some sort of introductory video, with a grand tour of the GFC offices, then yeah, THAT would be spiffy.

goomba478
02-08-2010, 11:15 PM
The grand tour of the GFC offices :) haha it'd be a little tiny back office of my house with a bunch of cardboard boxes piled to the ceiling. Not exactly flattering ^_^ Maybe once I get an actual office outside of my home area. As for the FAQ of course I'd have it all text with video being in addition to the text. Since sometimes it's easier to watch a quick one minute video than it is read paragraph after paragraph of text. But definitely will have text to go along with it as I always have. Thanks!

Alright, so I'm pretty sure I want to get this: http://www.amazon.com/Zoom-G9-2tt-Guitar-Effects-Console/dp/B000P3YFTO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=musical-instruments&qid=1265757719&sr=8-1

It's $299 US. So basically, it's gets shipped to you for free (over $39), so I just pay Shipping + exchange rate + $2 flat rate?

Can you give me an estimate of what it would cost? I think I posted this before, but that was a long time ago. I have tons of money to spend now, and I want to just buy something lol.

Before you said it would be about $350 in total. Is that still somewhat accurate?

02-09-2010, 08:06 PM
Alright, so do I just enter all the info on your site, or do we do it on this forum? I'm also not sure how to pay (sorry I'm inexperience with buying online).

Also, what does this mean? (on the amazon link)

Item Weight: 18 pounds
Shipping Weight: 7 pounds (View shipping rates and policies)What?

goomba478
02-10-2010, 12:32 AM
Honestly it probably means that they ship two of them in a package when Amazon gets them. So maybe it's 7 pounds for one of them, 14 pounds for two and 18 pounds when you add in the packaging. That's my only guess. I have no idea though :)

I can always advertise your site more specifically when a lowball comes up, I just never thought of it for the last lowball (since there wasn't a lot that caught my attention).

More or less, though, any relatively recent video I've worked on has your website somewhere in my video ^^'' I'll keep it in mind for the next lowball.

goomba478
02-11-2010, 01:35 AM
I appreciate it Rogan. I realize there wasn't anything jaw-dropping with the Lowballs and that's sort of the reason I run them after all, to get some much needed stock room in my tiny office and to clear out older titles that have been around way, way too long. It's a good draw to bring you guys in but I really can't risk the uncertainty of listing $50 games and having them end at $4 :) That being said, I'll definitely try to get more items together for future Lowball sales.

I will do my best to get some better items though. I really, really, really do appreciate the plugs in your videos. It means a lot to me!

It was just mainly xbox/360 stuff which kept me weary. I'm a sony fanboy :P

But hey, throw up some classic ps2 titles and I totally would bid on them :P I do kinda of want to replace my xbox indigo prophecy, the suffering 2, and dark watch with the PS2 versions :P //nudge nudge...

Oh, and a PSP version of Shadow of Destiny XD

//really has to stop spending money -- Goomba, you're too good at what you do.

Well let's be honest. The PS3 has a LOT more universal appeal these days. Almost all of my Canadian customers and European/Asian/Australian customers and South American customers choose the PS3 versions of games before the Xbox 360 copies, which leaves me many more extra Xbox games. They also tend to go on sale more (Xbox 360) here in the US. But I'll try to get a bigger PS3 variety in the future.

I will try my best to get more PS2/PS3/DS/PSP and others in the next lowball. Maybe this time I'll list like 30 items before announcing it :)

Well let's be honest. The PS3 has a LOT more universal appeal these days. Almost all of my Canadian customers and European/Asian/Australian customers and South American customers choose the PS3 versions of games before the Xbox 360 copies...

Console war over folks.

Haha :) let's not go there. For the record I own all the systems: Nintendo DS/DS Lite/DSi, Xbox 360, PS1, PS2, PS3, PSP, PC, Mac, iPhone, SNES, NES, Gameboy, Gameboy Pocket, Gameboy Color, Virtual Boy (yes, don't judge), Gameboy Advance, Gameboy Advance SP, etc. etc.

Lots of console love to go around!

Wasn't the 360 only ever "winning" in North America?? Im not wanting a flame war, but wasn't that always how it was?

North America has a ridiculously high attachment rate to the 360 that basically combats the rest of the world?

I don't really follow it at all, I own a 360, I just can't justify buying anything that ain't exclusive on it. I can play most of it on my gaming PC with a better or equivalent interface, or I get it on the ps3 for free online. All I want is party chat and a universal music player for sports games (one that you can activate at any time regardless of manufacturer coding... that way, I can just mute the ingame audio, and use the ps3 to play my music via the xmb).

only thing that sucks? Since I'm in north america, I got no one that I know with a damn playstation to play online games with... Online alone is just pure boring.

Don't get me wrong. I love my Xbox 360 but the fact is I do generally prefer PS3 versions for most games simply because I like the Blu-Ray format, and I like that it is virtually scratch proof (the Blu-Ray discs). The Xbox 360 does seem to have much better variety in downloadable games though, but I think that's more the fact that XNA programming is easier (in theory) and they seem to allow more developers to go hog wild with the platform. For multiplatform games though I typically go PS3 as I don't really play online.

The Xbox 360 does have some great exclusives, but again there's no reason most of the games couldn't be done on the PS3. They just tend to be more exclusives there, but the PS3 has more Japanese exclusives and a lot more RPGs and such, so it's hard to argue there. If you like FPS games chances are the 360 is better, but if you like almost all other games the PS3 has the same amount if not more options.

The fact is both systems are good in slightly different ways. I also have not had a 360 die on me yet *Knocks on Wood* but then again I don't play it enough to wear it out. Online gameplay is definitely superior on the 360, but again I don't really have much time for it sadly so it isn't really a major factor for me. Though I do love me some 1 Vs. 100 (even if I can't qualify for prizes in my state).

Are the discs themselves actually scratch proof? I never tried it, but I always assumed it was the same plastic (my discs rarely get scratched anyway... unless it's my starcraft or warcraft 3 discs that I used to play 24/7).

For me, though, while the interface is nice... As long as I can talk with my friends and add them easily to my game (even if it's through the game interface) it's really no big deal difference -- I just want cross-game voice chat, so I can play RE5 while my friend plays LBP instead of having to do it through the PC.

Or better yet, somehow get the PS3 to install a private ventrilo of sorts (up to 8 people or so) where your friends can just hop in and out of at will when they login to their PS3 and ask you to game... Now THAT would be epic. It could be pretty easily done since it requires the net performance over the CPU performance.

I still argue that games are better on the 360 because your friends probably are playing their games online ON the 360. Yeah, my 360 hasn't died on me either, but that's aother reason I don't want to invest in the platform. Sony has been good to me, and I still have my launch PS2 working (despite everyone getting the failures).

I havn't had a console die on me yet, but apparently the 360 may be my first :(

Speaking of which... I almost 100%'d the RE5 copy you sent me... I love me some bad scripts apparently, or... trophies/achievements are just really addicting.

Yeah the discs are pretty durable, I've left 'em on my desk (at the mercy of all my other shit on my desk that can scratch it) and nada. Same deal if I leave it somewhere it'll get dusty and having it moved around will scratch it but just wipes off.

And we all want cross game chat :(.

I've had two 360s die on me, and no I wasn't a big enough retard to just blindly go out and buy another one. Let's just say working in a certain place where people traded in games and gaming thing was a great place to offer cash instead and get stuff for real cheap. Which is why I have about 5 360s (all used for different things) but my PS3s are the jewels on my gaming mantle. I CAN'T QUIT YOU PS3!

@Roganshrine: add me to PSN, I play multiplayer stuff on it (my consistent online gaming is done on the PC though), White Knight Chronicles is my thing now, just killing through Story Mode so I can start questing online with that Georama shit :D.

Blurays are much more durable than DVDs (360/wii games). I get a lot of stuff from Goozex and the 360 games are often scratched up.. but the blurays are almost always in perfect condition. You really have to abuse it to get a scratch on it.

emjaymj
02-11-2010, 12:18 PM
Blu-rays have a very scratch resistant coating that's practically necessary due to the storage density of the medium. Supposedly you can take a screwdriver to it, but I'm not trying that for myself :)

That being said, I'm a PC gamer primarily, so the 360 doesn't really provide me with a whole bunch of exclusive games that are appealing, while both my PS3 and even the Wii sometimes have pretty great exclusives I don't want to miss. I DO in fact have a 360, but it's been sitting in my garage for a while and I don't even know if it still works, lol....

Yes it's true that Blu-Rays are ridiculously durable and that's why I love them. I have no reservation buying used PS3 games because I have yet to receive one with anything more than a few fingerprints (which are easily cleaned off and removed). I think the greatest thing about this generation are honestly the downloadable games. Every system has ridiculously good exclusives. Not only are they good games, but they're inexpensive (for the most part) as well :) Hope the next generation continues this trend (and I think they will).

Yeah, well I wouldn't say out of business. I'd say in a slightly different business. Physical games will eventually be phased out, maybe not completely, but even someone like me who obsesses about collecting games and having cases/manuals and everything perfect is starting to think that the idea of a clean gaming space with only the systems and less clutter sounds quite nice. I can't do it now because I don't trust companies with DRM and such and I do like the box art and such, but I do think it's the future.

The good news though is that games are only one of the things people order, and I can always change the name of the company or open alternative ones :)

I, for one, have actually required goomba's services to buy digital content not just once but TWICE (one of them a game), interestingly enough.

But while I love the digital distribution of Steam, I'm okay with it mainly because it doesn't have a limited lifespan. Those games should work for a very long time, maybe even my entire lifetime if Valve holds to their promise of unlocking the games from the service if Steam ever goes under, and I can realistically expect the games to keep working on my next PC, and the one after that, etc. I can also install these games and play them on my PC, laptop, friends' computers, or whatever, however many times I want, without hassle.

But at the same time, I'm not personally a huge fan of the smaller and/or episodic content offered by the console services. The half-life episodes on the PC are kind of an exception to this because they are really bigger and better than many full-priced games. I do enjoy an indie game every once in a while, but mostly I stick to the epic single player games (just got done with mass effect 1 and 2, for instance), and the console services don't really offer game downloads like that just yet, so I don't have a ton of experience with them. I know you can usually have the same game downloaded to a few different consoles, but with the PS3 for instance, I believe the limit is 5. And as far as I'm aware, there's no guarantee that the downloadable purchases I make now will transfer to the PS4 or whatever the next Xbox or Nintendo platform will be, very much unlike PC. So except for a handful of brilliant indie games that are simply only available as downloads, there is no real advantage as of yet to buy a downloaded console game rather than a disc. I may or may not get backwards compatibility in the next consoles, but at least I can sell my used games if I want to. Steam on the PC ALSO prevents you from selling used games, but in my opinion, the other freedoms they give outweigh that single negative and so I ALWAYS buy my games on Steam when possible.

Besides, I have no interest in downloading a filled-to-the-brim BD-50 game over the Internet, especially considering that the ISPs here pretty much all cap monthly bandwidth. I have one of the most generous services, with a soft-cap of 95GB/month (I can go over but it will cost me $1.50/gb to a max of $25, at which point I might as well go nuts on the downloading.) And some people just prefer having physical copies of everything and treat them as collector's items.

Though probably most importantly of all, as goomba touched on, games are no longer the sole source of his business. In fact, if you look at the month of January, I didn't do an actual count, but it looks like video game purchases actually made up a MINORITY of his shipments. There's plenty of other stuff us Canadians want but either can't get, or can get it significantly cheaper across the border from a business that doesn't ship direct to Canada. I think I've used his service 5 times and other than once where Steam wasn't accepting my paypal for some reason, none of them have been video games.

So I think he'll be fine :) The bigger issue I see for him is that his fees are extremely generous, but this is kind of necessary to remain competitive with just buying stuff in Canada instead.

I think the grade schools still have spring break in march, or it may have been canceled due to them being out of school (maybe?) for the olympics too for the two weeks.

I'm just saying :P

But yeah, just platinumed my Resident Evil 5 Goomba sent me... Now I got the two weeks to play some good 'ole left 4 dead 2 and batman! For being a beat'em up, Batman is actually surprisingly good. I didn't really believe people when they said it was (I enjoy it WAY more than uncharted).

 That's a pretty Canadian attitude for many of us. Of course, there's always the idiots who go nuts for Tim Horton's and the Molson "I am Canadian" commercials, but for so many of us it's like uh.... okay... why should I care so much about these guys just because they happened to be born in the same gigantic geopolitcal area I was born in? Canadians suck at the whole national pride thing, but I'm pretty happy with that as it's kind of a juvenile attitude and just encourages intolerance.

I thought the whole torch running thing was neat. It passed by only 2 blocks away from my house, so I went over and followed it for a block. Which was pretty awesome :) Of course after going home and looking at the internet for a bit I got pretty pissed. It turns out if I followed an extra block or two I would've seen Trevor Linden with it... He's hands down my favorite athlete, seeing him with it would've been way more awesome than Schwarzenegger or Gretzky

I can understand not caring about the whole thing though, I'm hardly a sports fan. But am I the only one who finds the anti-olympic guys to be retarded? It was nigh impossible to stop once we were declared the host city. At this point outright killing athletes won't stop the games (see 1972), it's laughable they think a "riot" with petty vandalism will make a difference

Actually the news mentioned there were one or two others, just they weren't super famous like Arnie.

There ARE some payment details while setting up a DR. The problem is, Goomba hasn't coded it into the confirmation page, but it IS in one of the pages, including the necessary paypal account - it just isn't the final one, which is weird. I'm always afraid to hit the back button to find it for fear of re-submitting the DR.

Unless you're talking about the final overall invoice price, in which case you can calculate it yourself.

He provides shipping estimates on both the first page of this thread, and on his website, ie. $11 for 2 pounds to Canada. If you live somewhere else, I imagine you'd have to wait for an invoice though.
Then he charges his own fee of $2 for the first item, $1 for every item thereafter.
If an item is worth over $150 or weighs over 5 pounds, there is an extra fee of $5 for that item for every (complete) $150 in value or 5lbs in weight, ie a $299 (or 9lbs) item would carry an additional fee of $5, a $300 (or 10lbs) item would be $10. Only the higher of the two fees are charged, they do not add up. So a 15lb item that costs $900 would carry an additional fee of $30 ($5 for every $150), but you would ignore the $15 fee for the weight.
If the Direct Request requires him to order the item himself, then you must add on the cost of the item. If you are unsure if he pays taxes in Connecticut, go through the ordering processing using a CT address and see if any taxes are added on. If they are, add them to your total to pay Goomba
If instead of that, you pay for the item yourself and forward the package to the address he's given, add $1 per item as this is what UPS charges him to pick up from his mailbox

So let's give 2 examples, applying to Canadians only:

Order A consists of 1 item that costs $120, but the deal expires in 10 minutes, giving you no time to request it from Goomba. It weighs 7lbs.

You would order Item A directly from the website where it's being sold, paying $50 to the retailer for the item, and shipping it to the package forwarding address Goomba has provided. You then fill out a direct request form, indicating that you have already bought the item. Once the form is complete, you can then send him $31 for the shipping cost of 7 pounds, $2 for his standard first-item fee, $5 additional fee for the weight because it is greater than 5lbs but less than 10lbs, and $1 for him to pick up the package from UPS. This gives you a total of $39 you can send him over paypal, unless you are using credit card, in which case you use his other paypal account and follow his instructions to increase the payment to include the credit card charge.

Order B has two items. Item 1 costs $200 and weighs 4lbs, while item 2 costs $100 and weighs 2lbs. The site only accepts credit card, which you do not have, so you file a direct request for Goomba to order the item himself. Checking ahead of time, you notice the site does not charge sales tax in Connecticut.

You fill the Direct Request form out completely and accurately. You want to get the order going as soon as possible, so you don't bother waiting for an invoice. Obviously, the items are going to cost him $200 + $100 for a total of $300, so you start with that. Since the total weight is 6lbs, you add the shipping cost of $29. He takes his standard fee of $2 for the first item, and $1 for the second item, which is another $3. Both items are under 5 pounds, so neither of them has an additional weight fee, but Item 1 is over $150 (but less than $300), so Item 1 carries an additional $5 fee, while Item 2 has no additional costs. This gives you a total of $337. Keep in mind that, just like in order A, if you are paying by credit card you have to calculate the cost of that on top as well since Goomba doesn't charge nearly enough to be able to eat these fees (he would usually be losing money!)

A few things to remember are that you must cover all Paypal fees yourself and not pass them on to Goomba. I don't know about paying with credit card, but when I pay with my bank account, it includes a checkbox adding about 1% to my total and indicating that Goomba receives the full value of his invoice. Also, ALL prices are in US Dollars, and for orders outside Canada, Goomba not only takes an additional $1 fee, but shipping rates will likely differ, and as he can't list the prices for every single country on his website, if you are outside of Canada you are probably better off just waiting for his invoice.

Besides all that, don't sweat it too much. If you make a big mistake, or weird circumstances happen where the retailer lists a totally improper shipping weight, or the price changes significantly by the time he goes to buy it, Goomba is a pretty honest guy and will refund you any overpayment. But that works both ways... if you don't pay him enough money, he'll send you an additional invoice seeking the balance of the payment before he goes ahead. For all my mailed (non-digital items), I have always done the package forwarding and figured out the cost so that I could send him the money right away without waiting for an invoice.

Ragnar14, in all honesty it is easiest to process when I do have a Direct Request filled out, but if you are to PM me/Email me and send a payment that's fine too. As RoganSarine mentioned, if you overpay or underpay for the order I will let you know and will work out the fine details. As you probably know by now, I get quite a few orders and each customer's needs are different but I try to work them out on a one-by-one basis. Just let me know what you want to do :) Thanks!

Hi Goomba I just put in a DR, did not make payment yet cause I was wondering if you still took amazon.com GC that I have earned through swagbucks?
