Yes shadow_nine, I do still take Amazon GC's as 1:1 payment :) Feel free to PM me your code(s) and I will apply them to your order. Thanks!

02-15-2010, 02:21 AM
Ragnar14, in all honesty it is easiest to process when I do have a Direct Request filled out, but if you are to PM me/Email me and send a payment that's fine too. As RoganSarine mentioned, if you overpay or underpay for the order I will let you know and will work out the fine details. As you probably know by now, I get quite a few orders and each customer's needs are different but I try to work them out on a one-by-one basis. Just let me know what you want to do :) Thanks!

I did have a direct request filled out. But as emjaymj mentioned, your DR page doesn't have payment details on the last step. Which just made me wonder.

Anywho, I just sent payment for that eBay auction I want you to bid on :)

02-15-2010, 02:44 AM
ragnar14, the DR Classic page doesn't have the Paypal payment instructions yet (I'm working on that in an updated version soon) but the new Direct Request service should after you select your payment method. If it is not showing up please let me know. Thanks!

** GFC DR UPDATE [Feedback Wanted] **

I just wanted to let you guys know that over the last ~2 years, I've had a lot of time to think about this and I think I've decided how I will process payments finally. The biggest source of problems/questions/confusion on the GFC site is by far the payment process for Direct Requests. I think I will widdle it down to two simple options:

1) Process payments through Paypal on the website. This is how it is currently processed if you choose the credit card option on DR 2.0 page. The service fee will include all fees/service charges and will immediately give you a chance to check out and make your payment through Paypal. All your information will be automatically entered into the Paypal form and I can process your order as soon as I receive your payment. If any additional funds are needed then I can manually update your order and invoice you via Email as usual.

2) Pre-Pay your items by adding funds to your account ahead of time. CAG members like you guys can make payments to my personal Paypal, send Amazon GC's , etc. and I will have the website keep track of your credit amount. When you go to check out a Direct Request (method #1 above) it will first check to see if you have any store credit, and if you do it will apply that amount to your payment. If any additional funds are still owed then it will give you a chance to check out with Method #1.

The beauty of this is that there will be only one real payment method and you can still avoid Paypal fees by pre-paying or adding money to your account, but it won't be an issue to new members or casual buyers on the site. What do you guys think? Doing it this way will make it much easier for you to see what your credit is with my site and will be a lot easier to process the Rewards System. Please let me know what you think. Thanks!

I thought you already planned to implement something like that a month or two back? As I said back then, I love the idea :P Especially the pre-pay thing... because... well... It's what I've been doing most of the time for the last little while!

ragnar14
02-15-2010, 08:36 AM
Ditto on pre-paying being a good idea. I have some funds sitting in my Paypal account right now, and it would be a shame to just blow them on eBay. Seeing as I can save some credit card fees if I could just deposit them into the Bank of Goomba for when I need them :)

goomba478
02-15-2010, 11:54 AM
Well, I had said that I'd be moving toward a system like that but the one I have in mind is a bit more strict than originally planned. It's sort of an all-or-nothing system. Either go through the website as usual and pay the fees or you can prepay for your items in the system and get a discount on them pretty much. I think it's a fair system though.

I will explain the system more in detail at the end of the month probably. It'll take me a few weeks to actually implement it on the website. Thanks!

curious question how does one set up swagbuck?
do i create an account with canada info or usa info is best?
for goomba to apply on with DR?

Thanks for answer a noob question hohooo~

also btw got any swagcode?

RoganSarine

Canada and US are the same... Just use your Canada stuff. Fill out the sign up form, and do searches on it instead of google.

Swagcode doesn't need to be used on sign up.

And if you're going to sign up then you mind as well use one of the referals that most people here have in their signatures (doesn't have to be mine but it would be nice :)). You'll get them swagbucks when you get them up to a max of 100. Also keep an eye on http://www.sc-s.com/ or http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1291711 for new codes every day.

Swagbucks are really easy and no I don't have any swag codes right now, but they're not totally necessary either. You get so many of them just using searches and such and if you refer more friends all the better. You are more than welcome to use my referal as well :) Thanks for the question! I think you'll like the service, it's an awesome way to earn Amazon Gift Cards and you can use those 1:1 in our GFC store for our services :)

Just so you guys know, we had another semi-big snowstorm today so I didn't make it to the UPS store (my car sucks in the snow, trust me) but I'm hopefully going first thing in the morning tomorrow. So I'll be picking up the newest batch of UPS orders and getting more of your DR's shipped out. Thanks!

Apollo, haven't gotten it yet but it should be here any day now. I'll let you know :) The GYROS page doesn't lie.

Ragnar14, I know isn't that awesome? I was thinking it'd probably go a little higher as well. Gotta love sniping! I will send you the invoice for the faceplate as well later on when I get home from work (8 PM EST-ish). Thanks!

No worries, goomba.

Actually, GYROS does lie ... somewhat.

I paid the additional shipping on 02/05, yet according to the GYROS page I have not. ;)

goomba478
02-17-2010, 01:11 PM
Okay well you caught me there :) GYROS does lie sometimes for payment status, but never for shipping status. Because as soon as I receive items or ship them out I do update that. The payments I admit are sometimes a bit behind but in my Quickbooks system (which I use to actually determine when things are going out) they're 99% up to date at all times :) I will update the GYROS for you hehe. Sorry!

If I'd like to add Amazon.com funds to my account how can I go about doing that? I've got 2x $5 Amazon GC atm that I'd like to put in, granted that I still haven't found anything that I'd want to order from the States  (end up finding deals up in Canada) but I'm sure it'll come in handy someday.

02-17-2010, 03:57 PM
Well unfortunately the $9.00 extra for priority shipping turned out to be a waste because it still hasn't shown up and my father left today for 3 months :(

Which is odd, because I live in suburb bordering with the city of Toronto. If the package can't make it within the expected time to pretty much the closest major city center, when does it EVER make it on time (let alone at the optimistic end of the range.)

Kind of a crappy feeling to take those extra measures and still not be able to give him his parting gift

goomba478

Myv, the easiest way to do it is just to PM me the codes along with your personal information (full name/ Address / Email address) and I will apply them to your account in our software. Next month there will be a place on the website for you to dynamically add funds to your account either through Paypal or Amazon GC's, etc.).

Pat, yes I did :) I will go through it tonight when I get home from 6:30 PM.

emjaymj, I'm really sorry to hear that! I have a feeling the multiple snow storms in the Northeast effected this :( really sorry man. I would have shipped it to his destination address if I thought it wouldn't get there in time. Bummer man, I hope you understand I really did try to get it there in time. Mail unfortunately isn't yet a science as it seems somewhat random in terms of customs and delivery dates. My deepest apologies man.

It's really just a big learning experience: taking everything you guys want, everything I need to work and finding the best medium for it. In time we'll get everything down so it's clear, concise and easy for everyone (at least that's the goal).

I will go ahead and apply your credits in my system and they will be available for you for all future orders :) Thanks!

No worries, I'm not the blamey type. Most of the reason it feels so crappy is I pretty much end up laying the fault of all this stuff at my own feet. Oh well... next time I'll know better than to trust something time-sensitive to international mail...

goomba478
02-17-2010, 05:27 PM
Yeah definitely. National mail in the USA is like clockwork. I could set my watch for my local packages and I can ship to California and expect it to be there in 3-4 days, but for international mail there are just too many factors. This is why I don't really offer any shipping guarantees or delivery dates. It's a bummer for sure, but most of the time mail to Canada is fairly regular. Holidays and snow storms and Olympics aside :)

Hey goomba478, how much will be the service charge for the ebay lot of 6 books? Do you consider it 1 "item" or 6 "items"?

goomba478
02-18-2010, 12:14 PM
I typically count it as a lot, though the weight thing sometimes comes into play with books as they tend to be heavy. Thanks!

Setite
02-18-2010, 01:07 PM
Excuse my broken English, do you mean "I typically count it as a single item" or "I typically count it as a shitload"? I can't understand what you mean by saying "a lot" :-(

goomba478
02-18-2010, 01:13 PM
oh okay sorry for not being clear. If the item is a group of items (called a "lot") on eBay then typically I'll treat it as such. So if you were to order say a 5 book set for Harry Potter to me that's one lot (only counts as one item). If it weighed 5 pounds though, then I'd charge the additional $5.00 service fee on top of the normal fees. So yes, in most cases I would count it as a single item.

There are exceptions. But if you have any specific questions about a particular item or group of items just let me know :) Thanks Setite!

Thank you very much for the explanation. Please delete the DR I've sent, I'll make another one soon. Sorry for the trouble. I like the new processing system a lot, it is much much better than the old one.
BTW, if I were you, I would rename that "submit" button to "login". I think "submit" might confuse a few customers.

goomba478

kathos, no but your items are shipping today. They are next to be processed so you should receive the Email soon. Not my package that you missed though sorry to say.

02-18-2010, 03:17 PM
I have one more question. You've mentioned before it is possible to transfer money to you via amazon gift cards. How exactly is it done? Should I simply choose "email a gift card", then enter the required amount and your email? Or are there some more details?

goomba478
02-18-2010, 04:31 PM
Setite, it's like this: You just PM or Email me any Amazon Gift Cards you have and I credit your account in my system 1:1. So if you send me a $10.00 Gift Card for Amazon.com, then you will have $10.00 credit with GFC. Simple as that :) And yes, you can just Email it directly to me from Amazon.com if you like, that's always an option too. You have lots of options.

As mentioned earlier, this will be actually listed on the site with the March updates but in the meantime feel free to PM or Email any codes. Thanks!

Setite

And yes, you can just Email it directly to me from Amazon.com if you like, that's always an option too. You have lots of options.
I'm afraid that is the only option for me because amazon won't ship physical gift cards to Russia. I'll try this way of payment next time I make a DR.
Oh, and I got the last package today. My jaw dropped when I saw the box. Now I understand why it took you so long to find a box of appropriate size. Everything is in perfect condition as always, thank you very much goomba :D I've left you a feedback.

goomba478
02-19-2010, 02:28 AM
Not a problem. Email from Amazon is totally fine :) works for me. This is good too because I believe you can pay with a credit card which gets around the whole Paypal fee issue as well.

I'm glad the box made it to you! Yes it certainly was a big box ^_^ I appreciate the feedback. Unfortunately, the many, many, many cardboard boxes in my tiny place have become a sore subject with the wifey. I'm working it out with her but let's just say she's not exactly keen on our house looking like a warehouse =P At least once I'm doing this semi-full time I will have faster turnaround times and hopefully less cardboard in the living room =)

Quick question, goomba, to see if maybe you would know. Is there a reverse service similar to yours? I want something that's only available in Canada and want to have it shipped to me in the US. Can you do that? Or do you know a company that does?

ragnar14
02-19-2010, 06:35 AM

Apparently the virtuous attitudes of the Olympics have rubbed off on us Ragnar whether we like it or not :P I'll drive to vancouver and play you in a rock paper scissors match for it though, ha.

I will admit though, if the item is small, you would probably do it better. I don't think I have any bubble mailer (I might, so don't quote me on that), I generally ship my computer stuff out in boxes. I really should be like Goomba and entrepreneur my computer consultation/fixit skills...

//rant: Why the hell does the guy who knows more about computers than all these n00bs (lulz) with certificates and degrees can't take a practicuum and prove he's better for the job then these other guys? Freelancing this stuff is hard because people generally don't trust me, or trust my advice. I seriously always walk buy computer shops and stores, and piss off salesmen working on comission by telling the customer they're overcharging them AND giving them an overpowered system. If I could somehow advertise that I'm good, I'd almost kill to have it as a side job, and it'd definitely pay my school bills better than what I do now consistantly -- I may actually have a good sum of spare cash.

Seriously, WHO CHARGES $200-350 to "remove" a virus (basically just wiping it)?! If you advertise removing it, ACTUALLY REMOVE IT, and don't trust Norton!

//End rant

Sorry, I just went and fixed someones computer today using string, spare metal that I bent, and copper wire. I then preceded to give them a "free" upgrade by changing out some fans to make it perfectly silent, and I always get worked up when I always get neglected from anything -- and everyone on my facebook knows what I do <_< .

P.S.: The store was wanting to charge them nearly $400 to fix it, I did it for $20/hour and it only took me 4 hours.

tkszeto, in case you didn't read your Email or re-check the GYROS look at what showed up today: I think the reason it took longer than you'd expect is that it was shipped by Amazon but not sold by them (it was an affiliate seller using Amazon's Shipping Services). The good news is they're in, they've been packed up and will ship out first thing Monday morning. I'm going to go and pack up your TRU ones as well and will have those out to you Monday as well. I'll invoice you if your credits are not enough to cover everything. Thanks for your patience. Hope you like the train sets!

With the dollar the highest it's been in awhile I figured now was a good time to put a preorder in for a game that's coming in late march. Gamestop.ca has it listed for $50 while Amazon.com has it for $37 so it's a no brainer, especially since the patetic amazon.ca still dosn't have it (and many other games I want) listed

I'm not very happy about some games being $5 more still here but at that point the differnce isn't worth the fuss.

tkszeto, in case you didn't read your Email or re-check the GYROS look at what showed up today: I think the reason it took longer than you'd expect is that it was shipped by Amazon but not sold by them (it was an affiliate seller using Amazon's Shipping Services). The good news is they're in, they've been packed up and will ship out first thing Monday morning. I'm going to go and pack up your TRU ones as well and will have those out to you Monday as well. I'll invoice you if your credits are not enough to cover everything. Thanks for your patience. Hope you like the train sets!

Awesome, thanks so much Goomba. I didn't realize that one of the items was being sold by an affiliate seller, but it does explain why it took so long. I can't wait to give those to my son, he'll enjoy them I'm sure (okay, I'll play with them too :D).

Thanks for the reply, but I was waiting to pay to see what happened to that item that was going to be ebayed, wasn't sure if it was a wash with the cost to ship items to me, or there was a remaining amount to put towards the lowball items I won.

Just let me know what to pay =)

Goomba tried finding those awhile back, since the price drop, I don't ever recall hearing him finding any. If he did/could, however, those things are 1.5 lbs or so... that's about $8.50 give or take a buck.

Random note: Holyshit shadow hearts 1 and 2 are now worth over a hundred bucks new? Wtf?! I have like 8 copies of that game since I bought them for everyone and told them to play it because they refused to rent it... and totally never did ha

Ah, thanks for the reply Rogan. Too bad, the plushie is cute. If Goomba ever runs across one while it's still at $20, I think I might like one. I think it's $50+tax in Canada.

I was downtown checking out things today when the game was going on and ended. Half the city was literally stopped at every TV in sight. It was nice -- all the streets were empty for the game basically.

Except, the second we lost, there was basically a riot in every intersection dissing either brodeur (the goalie) or USA :P

I was almost waiting for a riot, ha. But, atleast, I can say I've seen what there is to see, and Im going to try to go to the Billy Talent concert this week (since it's the only free concert I relatively like for a band... Why did they neglect all our local bands that play on our rock station all the time?!).

Although, there is one thing that makes me absolutely pissed off about the Olympics. I understand the consumerism and convenience factor, but who in their right minds sells hot dogs for $10?! We have hot dog stands lining the street, and the ones near Rob. Square (the main street) was selling them for $10, and the ones by the concert $5. I went to every single hot dog stand tot ry and find one selling one at a reasonable price because I REFUSE to pay into capitalist b.s. A hot dog should NEVER be over $3. Even for $3, I may have accepted because I was really craving one, but when there are subways and quiznos everywhere, I can get a 6" sub (more food, arguably healthier) for the same amount. I was almost offended at them trying to think I would actually buy a hotdog for $5 (they got one ready as I walked up).

It's almost like that Disney Land syndrome, except, it's like there is relatively good fast food places in Disney land that isn't McDonalds along with slightly more expensive restaurants. You can't say "look at all the free stuff, but we're gonna cash in on the food" when you have chain restaurants and food places all around you -- it doesn't work like that. Mind you, at that price, selling one hot dog would probably make them break even at that price, but you'd probably sell more at less.

The flame was kinda cool, little smaller than i thought it'd be. Most people didn't know how to use my friends SLR though, so most of the pictures were blackened. Atleast, there were some cool fireworks at night.

I do though kinda feel sorry for Ragnar. I know he lives in Vancouver, and if he lives anywhere near the event, it'd suck miserably. They have concerts playing until midnight (with the lights shining into the blindless rooms), and fireworks at 11PM right next to a bunch of apartment buildings.

All in all, it was kinda cool, but I really don't see a need to spend my time in 6 hour line ups to see the medals, torch, or go on the free zipline (which I've heard mixed stories that it will be open until the paralympics or not). So, if you don't stand in lines, it's basically "what you make of it". While you could argue that about many things, after seeing the flames, there isn't really much to do beside watch a couple street performers, wait for the fireworks, and go to a free concert. So, if anyone here in BC is going, I definitely say go with your best group of friends that are the most outgoing.

And if you really want to do something, make sure to be there atleast 6 hours before it opens because chances are, everyone else is already there waiting.

Hah, I'm nowhere near close enough to have any of the problems. I'm way up at 41st. Although I haven't even had a chance to go downtown myself yet... I was planning on going down and might have seen you (not likely ) if I did, but I stuck around the house for the game instead. What a disappointment that was.

Except, the second we lost, there was basically a riot in every intersection dissing either brodeur (the goalie) or USA :P
Dammit, I was dissing Brodeur through the entire game. Seriously, letting a goal in 40 seconds into a game? Luongo should've been put in after the second goal, it was pretty clear then that Brodeur wasn't in top form...

RoganSarine, GFC Secretary and now blog writer :) That was a really fascinating piece man. You're actually a very good writer and very descriptive as well. I actually worked at one of the Disney "Fast Food" restaurants for a year down in Animal Kingdom and you're right, the food quality is actually outstanding. We had one head chef, around 10 cooks under him and a staff of almost 50 people so it was far from just a McDonald's type place. Good food but a standard meal would run $12 or so. But a lot better deal than just getting a hot dog for sure =)

The currency conversion is annoying me, I have £20 available right now, and according to xe.com thats $30.955. I'll try figure it out what it will be exactly before I agree.

Just a note: Remember that XE.com is using the current money conversion down to the exact time.

From my knowledge, all currency conversion costs an extra 2% ontop of that which is why paypals conversion is always 2 cents under that of xe.com's closing date price...

Which I realized you noticed in your post edit :P

firehawk12, don't worry. All weekend orders will be added to the GYROS either tonight in the next 20 minutes or tomorrow. Haha no that's not the problem ^_^ The problem is more the pile of packages filling up my entire house :) Working three jobs (University/Casino/GFC) simultaneously is a bit much but as mentioned in April that'll no longer be an issue. I'm doing alright but I do appreciate the notion.

GYROS are more of a convenience thing to let customers know where they stand. It's not 100% real time but it's the closest thing :) I appreciate it though.

RoganSarine

goomba478
02-23-2010, 03:00 AM
The problem is that GYROS tend to go hand-in-hand with shipping, because really I update them when I receive items in the mail, when I receive new orders and when I ship items. These are all kind of hard for outsiders to update since I'd have to relay the information to you to let you know where I am on the orders :) and really it only takes a second to update GYROS. The priority is simply on the shipping of items and GYROS second. I'll get it all smooth though ^_^ I'm already updating it several times a day whereas it used to be once a week or whatever lol. I am trying to update it as soon as I get a new invoice typed up, when I ship out items and when I receive items.

You'll see =) I have made a lot of progress!

goomba478

Rogan I'm pretty sure you can do that at any time. I'm assuming you mean the "CAG Veteran" thing. Just do this:

1) Go to the very top of the CAG page and look for a gear logo like this: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/images/misc/navbarcog.gif
2) Click the gear logo.
3) On the far left of the page you should see "Your Control Panel"
4) Go to - Your Profile > Edit Your Details
5) Look for "Custom User Title"

DONE! If you need more details let me know and I'll try to walk you through it. It should be available to everyone!

PS: Thanks for the congrats on winning the Tornado game. I haven't played it yet but it did come in :) Looks pretty cool actually.

Unfortunately, the Custom User Title option doesn't appear :( Maybe I have to wait for my anniversary (again -- stupid CAG deleting my account) :P I have more than enough everything else I'm pretty sure.

Dammit! I hate the olympics, WHY HASN'T MY GOOMBA MAIL ARRIVED YET! Curiously, was it shipped in a box or two bubble mailers?

Hyperactive Tuesday Comment: Hey Goomba, kind of a random question, but... How hard do you think it would be to make a side-website project whereby I creative custom clothing? I have a friend who is a graphic designer major, and I do have the means to be able to do it. I just have never actually ventured into entrepreneuring into the digital world. The closest I ever got was website design/website space selling, but that was only relatively successful (broke even in the end). I have already broken even with the equipment from doing it for friends, but I'm pretty sure I can be undersold by the more mainstream cafepress which is where I will have problems (unless I can find a place that sells premium shirts for cheap bulk prices). The only real start-up costs would be my time designing a website since I do have a purolator account whereby I get shipping 75% off. I just can't decide if it's worth the hassle. Was hoping you could give me an outside opinion.

Take a look at similar websites and possible ask the owner. Research and analyze what you found. I doubt a paragraph from a stranger here could be remotely close to what ACTUALLY happens.

An alternative way to make money is a seasonal cleaning business with a group of friends. It also helps to know a bunch of slobs in a University residence and negotiate discounts. It helps a lot to know dates on Res checks by Dons and moving out dates from various Universities. One big problem is maintaining a disciplined team that will help out.

Hey Goomba, do you only deal with games? Reason I'm asking is the fact that sometimes DVD/Blu-rays are so much cheaper at times on Amazon.com as opposed to Amazon.ca, and I'd gladly use your service. :)

Adrian, the thing is, I'm not going into this for the reason of making money. To be completely honest, I make enough money. It's mainly a hobby that I enjoy doing. Surely, there could be alternative routes and people to ask, but asking Goomba is actually far from uninformative.

Goomba has been dealing with customers for a long time, so he may be able to give me insight on what I would need to put into a website to make it properly functional (IE: The amount of time I would need to put in), and may even give me other additional information I havn't though of.

In several years of starting multiple side-projects and businesses, I can assure you no ones opinion is ever invalidated. It's amazing where you can find useful information. Also, Goomba's service, would be slightly similar. There are multiple package forwarding companies, but he can undermine them with a needed-service and prices, whereby I wouldn't have a platform to technically advertise. I was just asking for his input, not necessarily asking him if it's a viable option (because as I said, I've already broke even and don't need more money).

Maybe Midland Liquidators? IIRC they sell t-shirts in boxes of 100

Wonder what the cost would be and how well the shirts are made. I don't need anything AE quality, but I don't want that $0.50 cent shirt syndrome :P

Anyway, thanks Goomba for shipping my stuff out. I didn't realize it wasn't shipped yet, but I guess that gives me more time to finish up batman arkham asylum!

Midland shirts are half decent, obviously not spectacular, but not insanely cheap. They sell singles for like $5 if you just wanna try one out. I don't recall the pricing on multiples, maybe $3 each @ 100, maybe less. It is possible to bargain with the guys there, if you want stuff cheaper. They're a tool store, so it's just like that.

So the gameshark store sent out an email saying they ran out of the Comic Con fightpads and will be offering the regular fightpads b1g1 instead.

I'm not interested in the regular ones, but if anyone wants two 360 fightpads, or if two people want to get in on the deal let me know, otherwise I'll be canceling the order.

The cost was $47 total, so $23.50 per person and then whatever Goomba charges to ship em to you.

They have Ryu, Ken, Blanka, Akuma and Chunli avail.

Hey guys, sorry that I wasn't on much today. I was asked to work overtime at the casino and when I got home my wife wasn't feeling well and I had to take her to the hospital (she's doing fine now by the way, so no worries). I am processing new orders that I've received and will get to your question as soon as I can. Thanks!

RoganSarine, first of all thanks again for fielding questions for me in my absence. You've been a huge help lately and I really do appreciate it. Secondly, your idea about the T-Shirt thing seems reasonable enough but let me tell you that it takes a LOT of work and likely will not make you a lot of money at least up-front. In all honesty you'd probably make more money with something like Cafe Press or similar where they do the printing of the Shirts for you and do all the shipping, but I've heard mixed reviews about the quality of their items. Like Threadless and Woot Shirts, the idea is to keep the designs good but the quality slightly lower to keep down costs. If you are thinking of starting your own company to print other people's shirts (which I think you are) then really you're going up against major giants but if you can improve upon the quality and keep prices competitive you'd have a good product for sure. Of course you'll have to spend a lot of time and money on advertising and getting word out about you which can be tricky. I'd say it's a great idea, but one that won't be easy and one you probably will need a talented group of committed people who are willing to work for little money. If you can pull all that together then I wish you the best. I am pretty much against buying and selling physical goods these days (other than ones other people order through me) as I've lost too much money in the past. GFC doesn't make me a whole lot if you factor in all the time I spend on it (I calculated last months profits to be about $0.10 USD an hour for time spent, but hey it adds up and it's a hobby of sorts). You get what you put into your business. The more love and energy you throw into your business the better it'll do. GFC isn't my first business and won't be my last, but it's by far my most successful. So just do a few test runs with your service and see how it goes. Who knows, maybe in a year's time I'll be ordering GFC shirts from you :)

spike32, thanks for your concerns. Nah, she's doing just fine (more or less). I came home today after a long day of work and she suddenly was having some trouble breathing, shortness of breath and general dizziness and heavy cough. We wanted to be totally sure what was going on so we brought her to the Emergency Room and did some tests/X-Rays and such. Turns out it's just a common cold, but it's always better safe than sorry. Hearing that made her feel a lot better so she'll be just getting a lot of rest, taking some medicine and drinking lots of fluids. Hopefully Mrs. Goomba will be back on her feet in no time :) She won't be helping with the packing of items this week though which means I not be 100% up to speed, but a snowstorm tomorrow may in fact have me home again from my University job, so it may be a wash. We shall see!

Adrian, the thing is, I'm not going into this for the reason of making money. To be completely honest, I make enough money. It's mainly a hobby that I enjoy doing. Surely, there could be alternative routes and people to ask, but asking Goomba is actually far from uninformative...

My bad didn't notice it was addressed to someone specifically. I just brush over text if it gets over a certain length.

Goomba, use your Goombalian magic to transfer the snow to the west coast please :P

I'm going skiing tomorrow (hopefully) because we got our second snow fall on the mountains like the entire season, and I don't want it to melt all away by morning, ha.

Also, curiously, what was with the switch in Wolverine games? What made me so special as to not get the originally planned copy? o.O

goomba478

haha Goombalian is a pretty awesome word. I haven't yet learned to control the weather but I'll get right on that =) It does seem like this year we're getting more snow than you guys which is bizarre. Heck, the southern USA has had even more than we had. Talk about everything getting flipped upside down.

RoganSarine, I had to special order your game and it took a bit longer to get to me than expected that's all. When it did come in I had to wait for the weekend and got you a new PS3 case since the original one had sticker marks and scratches (the actual case not the game/manual/artwork or anything. So I just had to put it all together to make a near perfect copy. Sorry for the wait :)

** GFC UPDATE **

This may not be the most important update, but it is coming to GFC within the next week or so and it should be fun. I call it "What People Ordered" which will be a fun little section where you can see photographs of items people have ordered. No user details will be given and no prices or anything, just photos of items people have ordered.

It's kind of the visual version of GYROS for those of you who are curious what types of things people have ordered recently. I will more than likely just upload these to a Google/Picasa Web Folder that has public access. Should be fun just to take a minute or two and see what people are into. It may even spike interest in some items and give you ideas of things you may want :) More on this soon.

Excellent :) I'm glad you like the idea. I'll see how it goes. If nothing else it's fun for me to look back as I've shipped literally thousands of items over the last few years. Kind of a nice nostalgic "look at what I accomplished" sort of thing. It's always fun seeing rare games I've shipped to that are not worth triple what people bought them for :)

More on this in the next week. Thanks guys!

I like the idea, but curiously, would you take the picture before you send it out? The reason is, if the item is still on any kind of sale when the picture is uploaded, I would think the price may be a good thing to include. The cost isn't really an invasion of privacy, and it could potentially bring more service dollars your way if the deal is good/item is cool.

But that's just the CA_ in me.

telepathy, I did indeed. I'll send the invoice now for you :) Thanks!

RoganSarine, I would take the photo before I send the item out, yes. I actually do this for a lot of items any way just for my own records and thought it might be fun to share some of the item I send out since some of them are very unique and interesting. Maybe I will include the prices for some items if you think it'd be more helpful. Many sales are short-lived but it could be useful for future reference. I'll definitely consider that, thanks for the suggestion!

Hey Goomba I have a question for you.

There are speakers I want to buy from Vanns.com. They are 300 US and free shipping. I "Think" the total weight is 27.5 pounds. Your shipping estimate on gfc puts it at about 61 shipping. ** OLYMPICS QUESTION **

Hey there guys, I'm really wanting to watch the US Vs. Canada match today for Olympics Hockey Finals but don't get cable in my house. Do any of you guys know where I can watch it online? I found a website here: http://watchvancouverolympics.com/ but I don't know if it's reliable or if the quality will be any good. If you have any other ideas let me know :) I was considering an over-the-air HDTV antenna but I'm not sure if they get the NBC channels locally. Let me know what you think. Thanks!

not sure how it is in the states but anyone that sells tvs has the olympics in canada where ive been seen tons of people just sitting on coaches and watching the games in the middle of the stores...im not sure about online but I personally would head to a store open 24/7 for this game or a bar to guarantee good quality good luck with that.

This is what you want (http://www.ctvolympics.ca/tv-online-listings/index.html), Goomba.

There's a slight chance they'll blackout non-Canadian viewers though. I know CBC does that when I'm in Rhode Island.

It's the perfect way to end the Vancouver Olympics and you guys got the most gold medals in the end as well, so my hat's off to you :)

Ha, I was actually freaking out when we won because I was driving and next thing I knew, 50 horns were blaring at me as I went through an intersection :P

I am a little disappointed how we decided to handle the closing ceremonies though -- I still think they should have let some of our local talent play instead of getting everyone from Toronto, or already popular BC stuff like Nickelback. It would have been a great platform for a lot of our local performers to get noticed (and they arn't any worse than the stuff playing now)

It's interesting to note that while Canada won the gold, the score between team US and Canada for this winter Olympics is tied at 1-1. I guess Canada having lost the earlier game to the US made a rematch this close in scores a lot more epic.

Been a long time lurker of this thread, but now I finally have an opportunity to use your great service. :P

I am going to order one package from Amazon.com using the package-forwarding option since I have some gift cards I would like to use. However, I also want to order something else with the direct request form from Best Buy.
So I am looking to have both orders combined (Amazon + BB), should I just fill out 1 direct request form in this case or 2 separate ones?

It shouldn't overly matter each way. I missed the part that you were doing package forwarding (I was assuming you wern't gift carding the entire order).

It may help the confusion if you didn't mention that in the order notes, and it could actually be favored. ;) I don't think Goomba will throw you out of his castle.

Maybe some smaller sites don't do this, but most of the bigger ones like Amazon etc. do!

Also one of the items I wanted is now sold out :(

I blame it on game_fanatic, IT'S ALL HIS FAULT THIS HAPPENED!!!

I wonder, if I used an american credit card, and a different billing address... Would this solve 99% of the problems? Do most sites rage at people because the CC is CANADIAN?

If at any point true, you could have asked me :P I have access to american credit cards.

I want to thank you Goomba for your time. Sadly, the difference in price for your service and buying locally was literally less than a dollar. Shipping prices definitely killed the overall cost, didn't it?

Though next time I see something smaller (lighter) I shall seek your assistance.

Goomba, I know you don't have a lot of time to update the gyro's so I was just wondering if Darksiders had come in yet? Not asking for shipping date, just wondering if it arrived at your place yet. Thanks for sending Blazblue btw :D I'm sure it'll arrive soon.

C-C-C-C-Combo Breaker! Ultra Cooommmmmbbbooooo!

Gosh, Killer Instinct was my single-favorite arcade experience back in the day. I once (no lie) spent almost $100 USD in quarters at my mall playing that and beating it with all different characters. It had me mesmerized. I owned 3 copies of the SNES game and the Killer Kuts CD was pretty much the only thing I played when I got my first CD player lol. I even played it on X-Band (the SNES modem service) :) Good times. I'd LOVE to have those games ported to the Xbox 360 or PS3 some day and what I wouldn't do for a KI3....

Oh and by the way, they kept me late at work again today (not that I'm complaining, it was good money actually). I just spent almost 4 hours doing more invoicing and DR updates and it looks like I may be staying home tomorrow due to yet another snow storm. We'll see though.

I will go and see if I can process your orders that are time-limited and then I'm off to sleep.

spike32, it actually hasn't yet but I will keep an eye out. Typically takes about a week to get here, but it does seem a bit slower than usual for some reason. I'll keep you posted!

jonat2, very glad you got it :) Thanks a bunch!

dieN, no hard feelings. Shipping definitely kills many a deal. Especially when the items weigh more than 10 pounds shipped. It's all good though :) Hope to hear from you in the future for smaller/lighter orders!

jeffx, is the order you're referring to the goHastings games? If so, I processed those and ordered them as soon as you placed the order. When checking out they notified me that Nanostray was not actually New but rather used, but the others went through as NEW no problem. I got your payment and processed it immediately as I try to always do when you guys pay with the new system. So no worries :) Your order on GYROS was #984 just for the record. Let me know if you were referring to a different order though. Thanks!

Edit: I still ordered Nanostray anyhow figuring that you'd still want the game. Just to let you know.

LOL, Killer Instinct is a fantastic game to waste $100 on :applause: I spent quite a bit myself, the only place that had it though was the mall where my grandparent's cottage was so I'd spend half my time there. KI had such cool characters too like Jago, Fulgore, Glacius (cheap bastard), etc.

Guess all I can keep doing is playing the waiting game then, maybe i'll just play some Killer Instinct Gold ;) Definitely one of my fav n64 games.

Great, I was getting worried you were MIA or something. That's probably why they went out of stock then ;)

Just so I know, in the future should I pay for it myself and have it sent to your address? Does that make it easier for you? Sure would have been less stressful for me.

goomba478
03-03-2010, 01:12 PM
jeffx, not to worry. I'm definitely not MIA :) I'm just working overtime in the background because I want to get working on the website more and haven't been able to for nearly 3 weeks because of this onslaught of orders all of a sudden =-) Every day it seems we're picking up new customers (which is ridiculously awesome!) but it also means I have to work twice as hard to catch up so I have down time to work on the site. It's not easy working on everything pretty much by yourself but I do feel productive ^_^

In the future it's totally up to you. Shipping to my UPS box means it's easier in the sense I don't have to actually order the items, though at the moment I only pick up these items about once a week (typically Thursdays). The trade off is you get peace of mind knowing the items are ordered and it's only a few more days waiting time on your end. As long as you follow the directions to the T (make sure to only have my name on the package) it'll work out fine 99% of the time. The only issues are some companies (RightStuf.com being one) where they don't ship if the names on the billing/shipping don't match or if the billing is Canadian and shipping is USA. But most big stores have no problem with it :)

Thanks again!

I'm interesting in using GFC to order a pair of headphones, but i got a few questions first (I sent an email a few days, didn't get a response. Thought I would get a reply here). First, how do I let you know that I'm using the package forwarding service and sending the items to you? Also, once you do get the items and are ready to ship them, what other fees would I pay besides your fees and shipping. I'm talking about tax, and duties. Do you ship the items as gifts? The total price is around $200, if that would help any.
Thanks!

jeffx
03-03-2010, 07:07 PM
I can easily answer your questions. The forwarding procedure is here (http://www.gamesforcanada.com/package-forwarding.php).

The tax & duties are "random" and you will have to pay them to Canada Post, not Goomba himself.

goomba478
03-03-2010, 07:08 PM
ihrm, I didn't get the Email (or if I did maybe it went to my Junk Mail...I'll go check( but for now here are your answers:

1) If you are using the package forwarding service follow the directions on here: http://www.gamesforcanada.com/package-forwarding.php . The instructions are pretty clear. They involve ordering the item and shipping to the address on that webpage and then filling out the DR classic form here: http://www.gamesforcanada.com/dr-classic.php. Simple :)

2) There are no other fees for most items. Just pay the item price (some stores do charge 6% Sales Tax in my home state of CT, but if you pay for the item yourself that'll already be covered). Most items are shipped under customs values that won't accrue any additional customs fees. We ship USPS so again, generally speaking no other fees. Shipping insurance is available optionally but it's not required (costs $2.00 USD for each $100 USD of coverage).

3) I do mark items as gifts so no worries. If you want to insure for the full value then you may be required to pay customs fees. We can only insure up to the value listed on the customs form.

Any other questions let me know. Thanks!

ihrm, yeah it's my fault for not realizing how popular the Package Forwarding thing would be. What you have to understand is GFC is really an evolving service and every day it's improving :) The form really wasn't developed for this service, but hopefully once I catch up on all current packages I can whip one up that better serves it.

But yes, you can just put the price in at $0.00 if you want or you can just put in the additional comments that it's a UPS Order/Package Forwarding item. Either way is fine :) The comments definitely help though. Thanks a bunch!

Saves me from the huge inflammation of shipping and UPS killing you with the brokerage fees. It was nearly double the price of the headphones to get them here. I don't really understand why every online store in the US uses UPS and not USPS. Hopefully this will cut back a lot on the price and let me order my adapter! \o/

** GFC Feature in Progress **

Just wanted to give you a real quick look at the "What People Ordered" featured section that will be on the site by the end of the month. I will be adding new photos daily (once the system is listed on the site). Here's a quick look at a few items. I didn't photograph as many items in the past, but now I'll photograph almost all of them. Enjoy the sneak peak:

ihrm, the reason most sites and companies use UPS is because they (unlike the USPS) give a lot of business discounts to companies that use them. If I use them for eBay in bulk they give me like 25% off shipping and I can only imagine larger companies get even bigger discounts. It doesn't make sense though for the customers like you to use UPS though as the brokerage fees are outrageous :) Glad to be of service!

03-04-2010, 02:12 AM
Well, okay fair enough :) I'll be the first to admit that I'm not always up to speed on my own policies. The reason is I haven't entirely figured out how to treat "Self Orders/UPS Orders/Package Forwarding Items" lol. I am not even sure what to really call them as of now. I usually use the GYROS system as a reminder for me to process items in the order I receive them, but sometimes I receive so many that I just list them when I can.

But you're right, in theory I should add them at the bottom in the blue letters and then add them above once they are upgraded to actual entries in my Quickbooks. This is more than likely the system I'll adopt ^_^ Still working out the system in real time hehe. I appreciate it though. I'll try to add in everyone's new orders to GYROS 100% of the time to fit my own sort of OCD-nature. Thanks again!

You're very welcome. Also, if any of you took a peek at the GYROS in the last hour you may have noticed that I have shifted all yellow/red orders from February down to the March section now. This will be a thing I do so we can put February behind us :) The GYROS is really more about when an item ships out for which month it's categorized in, rather than when it was ordered. Hope that makes sense. Tons more orders being processed tomorrow. Thanks guys and good night ^_^
