Features

The original tank vs. tank action classic Battlezone has received an Xbox LIVEŽ overhaul, adding in exciting new multiplayer modes including Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, and Capture the Flag. This updated version is truly a must-have for any fan of the original, which is also included. Additionally, players can use the Xbox LIVE Vision camera to watch live video of their opponents. Combine these features with new special effects for weapon firing, impacts and explosions, and you have the killer arcade classic as you've never experienced it before.
Classic Atari arcade game action: Continuing in the tradition of Centipede and Asteroids, Atari brings you another arcade classic, Battlezone, updated for the next generation with both enhanced and original game graphics and play. For its time, Battlezone was revolutionary with its vector graphics and its intense tank-on-tank action. Now you can play both the original and enhanced versions and take it to the next level with multiplayer play.
Multiplayer modes: Include your friends inBattlezone play with the new Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, and Capture the Flag multiplayer modes.
Camera-enabled: Use the Xbox LIVE Vision Camera to see the reactions of your friends as you blast their tank off the screen.
New achievements: Twelve new achievements are provided for you to master and improve your Gamerscore.

I'm really curious about how this turned out. If its good, then I get to get frustrated that I just spent 800 points on Pac-Man

I liked it back in the day, but they'd have to do a helluva lot to make me want to play it now. Enhanced graphics could mean anything these days.

It does look pretty good and for 400pts it might not be so bad. Atleast we're not just getting Rocky & Bullwinkle this week.

Updated OP with pics.

I'm going to wait for the consensus opinion on this one. I always had a love/hate feeling about the arcade version, namely because it made the early Resident Evil controls seem like Ninja Gaiden, and because I sucked. I imagine the "Throttle Monkey" mode would almost bring them up to 'normal' speed.

P.S. I find simply having Achievements a pretty smirk-worthy bullet point. Padding the resume, guys?

P.P.S. If its good, then I get to get frustrated that I just spent 800 points on Pac-Man

Championship Edition? Ain't no one wasting 800 points by buying that game. Still one of the Top Five on XBLA, I say.

I didn't say I wasted the points. I'm really loving the CE version (plus it goes with the train of thought when I bought it. I've got quite a few time intensive games from the arcade but I don't have many pop in and out type games), I just find it ironic that I've got a $400 machine and I just spent 10 bucks on a version of Pac-Man

This game sounds tempting at 400 points. Not sure, I'll just wait until I play the demo.

That could be pretty awesome, I'll definitely check out the demo. I remember playing a java/flash version all the time in middle school.

Battlezoooooooone. For only $5, I'm definitely in unless the demo is awful.

Any mention of whether this has splitscreen multiplayer? Or if it controls like a real tank?

Not sure how this will hold up on repeated playing. Even back in the day (yeah I'm that old) when it was the most impressive thing in the arcade it still got pretty repetitive after a while. On the other hand, being able to play people over XBL might make all the difference..

Yea I saw this was up on xbox.com's site and I was like hmm not bad and then I find out that it's 5 bucks pretty sweet. Might pick up down the road, depends on if multiplayer works.

Well, then 3/4 of a circle isn't a ring, is it ;)

Oh gee, I loved Battlezone way-back-when, and don't see how I'll be able to pass on it - just for nostalgia's sake. 400 points? Sure. Why not? Although I'm waiting for a review, just in case.

Agreed, I played the updated version of Atari Classic Evolved on the PSP, and was bored pretty quickly.

I hate shortass demos. You kill all of the like 4 or 5 guys on the first level and the demo ends. It looks pretty cool, I'm not quite sure that I'm going to pay for it though....

I know the game isn't terribly deep, but the demo was rediculously short.

That usually indicates that there isn't much in single player, can't show off more than half at least. Prob get 1/4, I'm betting this game will go bundled onto the next arcade disc though.

I picked this one up, since $5 isn't bad. The single player is indeed really short (since we all know what Battlezone is). I prefer the enhanced graphics, and the Throttle Monkey mode is good for a quick game, since everything is sped up so you don't feel like you're crawling along the battlefield.

Where this game could really shine is the multiplayer. With just 2 players, it gets into a game of cat and mouse, and moves kind of slow, but with 4 players battling at once, there could really be some strategy involved.

Unfortunately, no.
