Camera support: See yourself and your friends during gameplay with Xbox LIVE Vision Camera support.
I searched and no thread on this came up, so I thought I'd make one.
Just after the last ratings update - the USK was updated again. Two games sowed up - the recently announced RooGoo, but one more which will certainly make some people very happy - Ticket To Ride!
Ticket to Ride is a very popular German-styled Board Game created by Alan R. Moon and published by Days of Wonder, where you must create train routes throughout the map and gain points by doing longer routes, and making your destination.
http://www.xblah.net/2008/03/usk-watch-board-game-geeks-get-ready.html
They have a pic of the actual board game and a link to a video of how it's played.
I'm excited to see more and more of these games come to XBLA. These are just the kind of things I'd like to play "IRL", but know no one geeky enough to play with me... buncha losers!
I haven't been able to find any info on when this might come out :/ I hope we get a lot more announcements like this soon, though.

Ticket to Ride is kind of like Catan: All Road-Building Edition. I have the board game itself that a friend gave to me.
Basically there's routes of X number units long. You draw cards to gain units in different colors, and can use them to make routes. So if there's a 5 unit long route in blue, you need 5 blue cards. If you complete it, you get a number of points depending on the length of the route (I think 5 units = 10 points).
The catch is that on your turn, you can only do one action. So you can only draw cards or claim a route - you can't do both. This creates a lot of tension in the game because someone might block a route you need. See, the other part of the game is that you have destinations between cities you must fulfill, or you lose points at the end of the game. I.e., you need to create a continuous route from New York to Denver, and if you fail to do this before the game is over, you lose points.
It's pretty quick paced - faster than Catan, slower than Carcassonne. Overall it's pretty simple but can be a lot of fun.
I'll probably pick it up if anyone else does.

Ticket to Ride is a blast that even my wife and mom loves. I hope they include all the maps and expansions in the main game and not micro us to death.
You can get your free T2R fix, or try it out first here: http://www.daysofwonder.com/en/play/

I'm so glad boardgames are finally becoming more mainstream. I wonder if XBLA will ever get any heavier stuff like Puerto Rico or Wallenstein. That would be gravy.

Thanks, Strell. I think that was more informative that their video was.
This sounds similar to a game I had when I was a kid, but I can't remember the name of it. At any rate, it sounds fun. I'll definitely be picking this up whenever it arrives.

They've got a "Ticket to Ri-hi-hide"...and I don't care!
(For the hypersensitive, that's probably trolling these days. For you relatively normal folk that can take crap in stride, a lame Beatles joke. Let's see how the Moderatti reacts!)

Damn it. As an avid euro-style board gamer, I really don't like Ticket to Ride. For that type of game, Thurn and Taxis is better.
Oh well, I'm happy more board games are coming. I just wish we'd get Puerto Rico, Race for the Galaxy, Yshapen, or Caylus.

Thurn and Taxis is usually drier than toast for newcomers though (not that Puerto Rico isn't). I think Ticket to Ride would be the better 'gateway game' if ever there was one. Maybe some Zooloretto? Samurai? Space Dealer? Any of the mask trilogy games? I have no idea...

It's oddly similar to Rummy in some ways. Eh, maybe that's it? Ok, probably not.

I never played space dealer or Zooloretto. I guess you are right though, Ticket is definitely a gateway game...... but then again, so is Catan.

Since we're on the topic of board games in general - would anyone care to recommend a good board game site in the US to buy the actual physical games?
The cheaper the better, of course ;)
I'd like to see if I could find a game like this that I might be able to get my husband to play...

Here are a few that I have used and liked:
http://www.thoughthammer.com/ Nice selection with great prices (but not as good as they used to be), great customer service. They use Fedex shipping with a flat fee of $8 and free shipping if you spend $125, shipping is super fast.
http://www.boardsandbits.com/ Just as good as above (CS, selection and super fast shipping) with slightly lower prices on some items, shipping flat rate of around $8 and half price shipping over $100.
http://www.superherogameland.com/ Cheapest place with free shipping over $99 but no flat rate prices (cheaper shipping on 1-2 small games, not having the flat rate is good and bad.) Good selection but not as good as thoughthammer and boardsandbits selection and a poor designed site.
I have used a few other stores but the above three are the stores that impressed me or found the best deals.
Also check out http://www.boardgameprices.com/ if you have a game or two in mind and you want to find the best prices (thoughthammer isn't in their data base.)
I hope that info helps.
A copy of Ticket to Ride and Lost Cities are a good place to start for couple gaming.

The best place to start when getting into boardgaming is www.boardgamegeek.com. They don't sell, but they have links to forums with discussions on where to buy. Here (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/browser.php?itemtype=game&sortby=rank)is a link that takes you to their top games of all time. You can pretty much enter in any game and see where it's ranked, which is pretty much how I decide what I'll purchase. Any of the games in the top 200 are going to be great games. The top 30 are going to be fantastic.
I also like to buy at www.boardgamerevolution.com. Great people.

I really hope we start getting some of the crazier board games as well.
We're already getting Munchkin, which will be a Day 1 purchase. (Even though that's more of a card game.)
I would be down for some Arkham Horror, that game rocks. Warhammer Quest would be fuck awesome, and would translate well to digital format. And I cant wait for Talisman.

You should check out Race for the Galaxy, if you can find a copy. Best card game I've ever played.

It got a pretty good review on OXM, but the score was 7.0, lower than I thought it would be. They said the game was fun and exciting, but that there's only one board unless you buy expansion packs. Don't know about local multiplayer -- will have to recheck the review.

If it has local multiplayer it's a day 1 purchase for me.Considering the game involves hidden cards, I don't think that's possible.
Edit: maybe I'm wrong. This article says up to four people can play together on the same console: http://gamerscoreblog.com/team/archive/2008/05/12/559073.aspx

That has to be wrong, the game would be no fun at all if you could see what other peoples tickets are.
Suraph get the board game, nothing can substitute looking your friends and family face to face and physically hold the cards and put the pieces on the board. It may seem expensive but trust me it will get played.

$60?!
My local gamestore (http://www.boardgamerevolution.com/cat--Popular-Board-Games--11) has it for $31. I've never seen it anywhere for more than $40.
This game is insanely popular, but very light. I suggest anyone that likes this game to try out Thurn and Taxis or railroad tycoon. Both similar games but better.

i figured it was like Catan.. where the base game is like 40.. then you need like 2 expansions at 15 each>?...
but even that.. for a game that is hard to get people to play around me.. paying 10 bucks or 40 bucks?

Yeah this game is totally addicted, It's easier then I was expecting to be. The only thing that bothers me is that it doesn't have music, well it does but it doesnt play throughout the game. It only comes up when someone gets down to 31 trains left and sometimes near the end of the game.
Also Where the hell does it say How many turns are left? I got screwed over this once. I thought I had enough time to get another route going but after I selected the ticket it says Final Turn. In the end that route cost me -20 points and the game.

Try zooming in, I had the same problem at first. If you can't make the colors out after zooming in on the map, then I would suggest adjusting the colors and if that doesn't help, a color-blindness test.
6 is the highest amount of destinations I've been able to make so far.

It's got a LOT more depth and longevity than Lost Cities, which is really a one trick pony.
If you look in the How To Play section, they have the rules lined up for both 1910 and Europe expansions already. 1910 seems like just a mini-expansion with some slightly different bonuses and maybe a couple new cards.
Europe, on the other hand is a new map (obviously) and has many new rules including the use of ferries, building tunnels and building train stations to use another player's line in your destination route.
I'd guess that 1910 would be pretty inexpensive based on what's involved but I expect Europe to be at least 400 points. I'd probably get it for that.
Feel free to send me an invite. I've not tried online yet; I suspect I'd get slaughtered. But if you guys don't mind me bringing up the caboose in scoring, I'd be in for the occasional game as I continue to figure this game out.

Is it worth the price if you don't really have much interest in playing online?
Honestly, I don't think it's worth the price if your not playing online.
The game does feature local multiplayer up to 3 players (you can't play with locals online), but it's a pain. The game has some sort of cover your eyes feature, were you have to press A to confirm when it's safe to take your turn. Once your done, it will show on screen who's next and controller will vibrate to notify each player it's there turn.

I'd rather pay $10 and get the XBLA version instead of 30-40 for the board game. Plus, one thing I thought of is that it has to be a pain in the ass to pick up all of the trains after every game when you play the board game.

This game is so much fun. I can't wait for the expansions now. The 1910 expansion adds 39 extra destination tickets, so the total with that expansion will be 69.
My guess is 1910 will be 100-300 points and Europe will be 400 points.

God, I grow tired of complaints like this. The only games that ever were released at 400 points were either classic arcade games (joust, frogger, dig-dug), super-simple, super-sucky games like Bliss Island and Space Giraffe, or two decent, deep games (Geometry Wars, Uno) that launched the Arcade and Live Vision, respectively.
Please people, stop saying "I wish this game was 400 points", because it just isn't happening.
Besides this game is certainly worth 800 points.

Ok, my friends list is starting to get really cluttered with people I've met on XBL and CAG. So to make it easier I made a new user name called CAG TTR.
I'm going to go through and add everyone on here as a friend on that gamer tag. Then everyone on here will only need to use one spot on their friends list for all of the CAGs who would like to play this game.
All you need to do is add CAG TTR as a friend, and then hit view friends to see everyone on the list and then you can send them invites when you want to play Ticket to Ride.

I don't think it is unreasonable to want some games to release at 400 points. There is no reason to jump down my throat just because you've heard this argument before, it's not like I've been spamming threads with this request.
Every game being released at 800 points means I buy fewer games. It's kinda like the Boom Blox game for the Wii, at $50 there is no way I was buying that at full price. I'm not making the argument that this game isn't worth 800 points (I'm still considering buying it) but I still long for the 400 point game is all.

Sorry, I don't mean to jump down your throat. Nothing personal was ment and I appologize for my snippy post. It's just that every single XBLA thread has somebody longing for games at half-price. That just isn't going to happen. My concern with the XBLA is that after that Penny Arcade game, more games will be priced at 1200 or 1600 points and I would really have an issue with that. As it is, I think 800 points is fair for a new orginal or remade Arcade game. If anything, we can hope that Live revisits their "Arcade Hits" program and discounts more of the older titles.
Of course as a CAG, the trick is to buy points when they're cheap. I bought $160 worth of points for $100 at the last Target sale and got a few rainchecks as well. So what appears to be a $10 actually is only running me $6.25 + tax. that makes it more tolerable. But even at $10, I think Ticket To Ride is well worth it.

I'd rather see original games than crappy ports of games that are 20 years old. With all the hoops developers have to jump through to get their game released onto XBLA, I think 800 points is a fair price for most of these games that were created from scratch. It just isn't worth it to spend all that time and money developing a game from scratch then going through the Microsoft certification process, only to sell for $5 and have a good chunk of that taken out for Microsoft royalties. $10 is not a lot to ask for these games.

The AI doesn't really engage in "prick" maneuvers very often, but you will encounter them frequently when playing online. These are moves like claiming the single card run between Seattle and Portland early in the game to make the Seattle to Los Angeles destination that much harder to finish.

I assume MS takes a percentage out of every game, rather than a flat fee? (Correct me if this is wrong). There's been a lot of games that I would have picked up at 400pts vs. 800pts, and I know I'm not alone. If the developer sells twice as many games, then it doesn't matter if it's 400pts any more.
As for Ticket to Ride, this is most certainly worth the 800pts. Especially when compared to, say, Frogger 2. Bring on the expansions!

It's all good :-)
I take the same approach when it comes to MS points (or Wii points for that matter), I try to never pay full price for them.
As for the cost issue, I think it is safe to say that I'll have to accept that 800 is the price point for original titles. I agree that seeing games priced at 1200 and 1600 points is a scary precedent and I'm not all about that. Paying more than $10 for a game that you'll never be able to resell is not something we should start accepting.
All that being said I'd still like to see a developer realize that they will sell a lot more games if they are willing to try the 400 price point!

I've been thinking about it and I have to say that I agree about the price point. 600 points is, quite simply, too steep for a map. That being said, I would consider buying the expansion if it adds game-play elements to the game. For example, more destination tickets for the US map.
Its a shame really. I really like Ticket to Ride, and want to continue supporting these types of games, but I refuse to do so at this steep of a price.
BTW - The Carcasonne "Lord and Barron" expansion is completely worth the price. Not really for the tiles, but the changes that the expansion makes to game-play.

Ya, I agree. It's setting an awful precedent. I mean, that's way more than Halo 3 or COD4 maps, and those maps take a ton of time to put together. They're just copying the maps from the board game here.

It's a bit steep for the expansion but it does add more than a map. The European expansion is the one that has train stations I believe, so it does add different gameplay as well. I don't know if it will add more than that, but it does at least add that.
EDIT: After reading that joystiq thing it actually does list off the added elements.

Updated the OP, but nothing you guys didn't already know way before I did...
So who's actually purchased and played Europe? I bought it, but haven't had time to try it. I was a bit taken aback by the price, but after thinking on it, I have no problem shelling out 600 points for this. It would cost me $35 or $40 to buy the TTR Europe board game. I do have to wonder if 1910 will be less, however, as there is less to that in its physical form.
I DO wish that it would have added more achievement possibilities... maybe an additional 100 points or something... It IS, afterall, an entirely different game - they could have done it easily.
I wonder if we will see the Marklin, Nordic, or Switzerland content on XBLA... There was a limited Mystery Train card expansion, too. That would be fun for them to bring to XBLA... 80 or 160 points, maybe?
I'm a big TTR ho... I know...
