Nice deal, I wish I bought it at this price instead of $40. The main gripe I have with Blue Dragon is the draw distance, unless something is fairly close to you it's blurry. It makes me feel like I'm near sighted in the game....

To be honest, the demo doesn't do the game justice. It opens up damn near everything for you right from the start. Half the fun of a game like this is leveling up to master the skills. Play through the demo again, but look at all the little intricacies that are there. Even if you didn't care for the demo, you owe it to yourself to try the full game before passing judgement. (I felt exactly as you did from just the demo)


Also, to the OP... excellent find; I had sold mine off to a friend when my 360 died as part of the $ to replace it, glad to get it back for less than I sold it at.

Just got it for 30 off ebay two weeks ago to finish a save file I started on a rental last year. Definitely worth 20 if you're a fan of the genre. Nothing groundbreaking, reviews were pretty spot on as far as score (7, good, not great) and a little harsh in text.

Job system like Final Fantasy V -- only 9 jobs, but more skills per job.

Turn based battle system works REALLY well with the charged attack mechanic. Ever since Final Fantasy X I've preferred turn based with a queue display over ATB.

New game+ and two new difficulty settings (Hard and Impossible) available as free DLC if you decide you love the game and want play it again.

One word of advice though: if you have low tolerance for kiddy voice acting -- similar to Naruto/another other children's anime dub -- select Japanese voices and turn on captioning at the very beginning. You CANNOT change this later. The characters are pretty unlikeable and poor writing/annoying kid voices do not help their cause.

Also, be prepared to be nearly put to sleep by the first 15-20 hours of the game. This is where I got fed up with it and shipped it back to Gamefly, only to get bitten by the RPG bug later and wanted to finish it.

Oh, and if achievements matter a lot to you, prepare to spend a lot of time on it. I spent 55 hours finishing this game and only got 80 achievement points. Yeah...

i loved the game. i played the japanese version, and i'd love to give it a go in new game plus on the english version. too bad the price went back up for some odd reason. i'm in no rush to grab it though since i'm playing lost odyssey right now.

everyone, forget the demo. it was odd. it did little or nothing to give the player of sense of context. the battle system was there, but, without the hours of play that should have preceded that point, you'd naturally be left feeling cold.

just tossing my 2cents in, this game is outstanding, paid full retail when it was released and enjoyed every minute of it, I even went back and imported the soundtrack, the game has an outstanding musical score, intriguing characters and a unique feel and look that gives it an outstanding polish. I am typically not a fan of the final fantasy esque games, but I dont know what to say, this game simply grabbed my attention and held it from beginning to end, I didnt have a problem with the "This is slow" that everyone else seems to have experienced, I thought the paceing was excellent and would quickly and without hesistation place this among one of the greatest 360 games I have played in quite awhile.

The demo was horrible in the respect that it did a horrible job of actually demonstrating the game. It just threw you into a seemingly arbitrary point in the game, you don't know what the heck is going on or what you're doing, and you're given a real-time time limit on it.

Bottom line, don't pass judgment on the full game based on a horribly crafted demonstrated.

I like it, brings me back to the days when I was a JRPG freak. It's nothing revolutionary, and there are better RPG's out there, but I think it's worth it for that price. I also played the demo and I can tell you that it doesn't do the game justice. It's a bit unfair to judge an RPG, especially one that lasts as long as this one, by a 10 minute demo.

Try it out. If you don't like it, trade it in for something else :razz:

Thing is, if I could only play one JRPG right now, I probably wouldn't choose Lost Odyssey or Blue Dragon. I'd would go with Persona 3 FES, just because it's seems like it tries to do more than clone Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy in a desperate attempt to get Japan and weeaboo Sony fanboys to buy 360s.

Also, this is CAG, and you can get both Blue Dragon and Persona 3 for the price Lost Odyssey still is, so by the time you finish them both, LO might have its first major price drop ^^

I do have to agree that Lost Odyssey is a better overall experience than Blue Dragon, but it really irritates me that certain things are actually better in Blue Dragon than Lost Odyssey, considering they're from the same studio (different teams, I guess.), namely the way they handle turn based battles.
