1. This game looks like it is using the two screens on the ds very well.
2. If I had only seen the art for the game I would not get it.
3. Yes this game is very unique.

1. The art style somewhat reminds me of Puyo Puyo for some reason, but it looks like it could be fun to play.
2. Yes, positively.
3. Initial reaction is that it handles something like Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword, unless it manages to get even more involved than that.

1: My first impression of this game is that it seems to be an rpg that dwells into the DS's wi-fi ability to bring in trading with friends and even playing portions of the game.
2:I don't mind games taking from cultures foreign to me, I actually enjoy seeing what they like to play and listen to, without having to actually go there.
3:With how the game plays, trading items and playing with others, the only thing I can think that comes close is Pokemon diamond/pearl. They're nothing alike, but they both make great use of the wi-fi ability. With how the game looks, only one game comes to mind, but not on the DS platform.
Most games on the DS always seem to have trouble using the mic properly, at least to me. Does anyone else think this might be a gimp for the game?

1. I've thought this game looked good since it came out in Japan and am glad and somewhat surprised it is getting released outside Japan. As far as my initial impressions I thought the overall setting and look of the game sets it apart from other games.
2. Yes but in a good way.
3. I would have to say no. It appears to set itself apart from other games.

1. It looks like you have to multi-task and push lots of buttons. The artistic design looks colorful and fun
2. I like that it has elements of Japanese culture. I love Shenmue and Yakuza for this reason. Since I will probably never be able to afford to go to Tokyo or Akihabara, this will be a treat for me.
3. I can't think of a title that looks like this on the DS. Contact is a quirky RPG....?
1) Doesn't matter its made by Square

1. The battle system looks highly entertaining. The art style seems like a great way to liven up the experience.
2. The culture influence seems like it would only boost the experience. Those crazy Japanese and their weird fads...
3. It has it's own unique take on the RPG genre, and it set apart not only on the DS, but all RPGs really.

1. Its impressive, being created by those involved with Kingdom Hearts and from Square. Not to mention IGN's review calls it one of the best games on the DS.
2. Japanese culture has a strong influence on cartoons and videogames, so theres very little reason it would affect my interest in this one.
3. Yes, this title does seem unique and catchy and though I havn't played the two newer Final Fantasies on the DS, I would imagine it changes the gameplay style traditionally found in FF games and makes its own style

1- Really interesting , i've been reading about this game for the las two months (in magazines) and it reminds me of Kingdom hearts , wich is Great!!
2- Oh YEAH!!! in a good way , People (mostly here in the US ) need to open their minds to other cultures and learn about them before criticizing (I'm Hispanic and I've seen it happen ...) I think it's really good having those influences in a video game.
3- Deffinetly UNIQUE and catchy YEAH!! , don't think there's anything close to this game on the DS , and like I said earlier..... reminds me of Kingdom Hearts , (SWEET)!!!!
Thanks!!

1. I was interested the second it was showed at the first event it appeared at.
2. I don't really care for Japan's modern culture but I don't hate it either. So no.
3. Now that more information is out, I definitely think it's unique.

1. It looks like a pretty original game. Since it's a new IP, i'm curious on how Square handles the new combat system.
2. It won't for me. I'm pretty much open to any game if it looks interesting.
3. This is actually new to me, I've never seen anything like it. Square's taking a new direction with their games.

1. The creativy and design definitely grabbed my attention, which most DS games have failed to do recently.
2. Yes, seems interesting.
3. Yes, the game has originality going for it. I hope it works out.

Don't know much about the gameplay, but the design is certainly interesting, and seems like a fresh take on a fairly staid genre.
Sure. Always interested in games influenced by other cultures.
Can't say I know of anything similar.

1. The collection element that involves performing certain actions to enable the use of pins sounds interesting, but I hope it doesn't look to silly to perform. It would be quite embarrassing to equip the super-ultra-awesome pin of cataclysm, but the only way to use it's abilities is to quack into the microphone.
2. I guess I am one of those people who is more interested in this game because of it's inclusion of many specifics of modern Japanese culture. However, I am far too cheap to buy a game just on style or content alone unless it has decent gameplay to back it up.
3. I certainly dig the cel-shaded graphics. There are not enough DS games with cel-shaded graphics. Someone should get on that.

The art direction is really neat, but I could expect no less from Tetsuya Nomura. The use of both screens on the DS looks to be really well done with this game.
Japanese culture has an influence on many things I buy like animes, mangas, videogames, etc.. So I guess the answer would be no. Though the use of Japanese culture in this particular videogame looks really interesting. ^.^
I can't name a game that looks like this graphics-wise on the DS. And I can't really say right now if it plays any different from the other Final Fantasys (FFIII and FFCC:RoF) on the DS. Give me a couple minutes with the game and I'll answer this question then. d:

1. I'm having a good feeling about this one, time to charge up the DS.
2. Crazy Japan Sim? Sign me up!
3. My first impression based on these screens are that this could be one of the most unique DS titles to date. Looks like the game could be a mashup of Elite Beat Agents, Jet Set Radio and Senken Densetsu(Secret of mana).
Sarchasm
04-17-2008, 02:05 AM
1. The simultaneous use of both screens looks a little too hectic.
2. Probably not, although I do consider stylized visuals a big plus.
3. This definitely looks like a standalone product on the DS. I can't think of any other games on the system attempting what this game has (apparently) accomplished.
What is your first impression of this innovative title regarding gameplay, creativity, and design? What first got my interest was the title. I was expecting it to be an FPS or action/adventure title. I read the premise and was really anticipating this title! Then I learned it would be an RPG and my interest quickly faded. Since I had browsed it several times on Amazon, it kept popping up on my browsing history. I continued to look into it and was happy to learn that it is a unique title. The gameplay requiring simultanuous use of the dual screens in something I would love to have more games feature; afterall it is called the DS for the Dual Screens. You have your games like New SMB and Mario Kart that only require you to truly use one screen. That's great, but I like to think of my DS as the one with all the cool and unique gameplay ideas. The design looks great, it doesn't fit the mold of your average RPG, dare I say it sort of reminds me a bit of No More Heroes? Yes, if ever so slightly.
2. This game's story, character, and design is heavily influenced by Japan's modern culture (food, fashion, music, etc). Would this affect your purchasing decision?
Not necessarily. I would be more so by the overall design and creativity; it is Japanese influenced as this type of design in games stateside is not seen, so I guess in a way it would.
3. Would you consider this title as unique and catchy compared to other titles currently offered for DS? If not, what other games would you compare this game with?
I'd like to think of it as something besides catchy; that implies that it's "gimmicky," which I hope it's not. I'm looking for something that would offer a unique gaming experience like Hotel Dusk, Phoenix Wright, Trauma Center and Drawn To Life offer. That's not meant to say that it has to be like those aforementioned games, but I'm hopeful that it will offer a style of gameplay I have yet to see. The fact that it looks unlike anything currently out there for the DS is a plus, it certainly has garnered my interest as a result.

It's good to see some innovation in what can be considered a very stagnant genre. 2. Honestly, not really. The innovative design will.
3. It seems to be very unique, but we'll have to wait and see when it comes out!

1. Hmm... a fantasy take on japanese pop emo culture... I am intrigued even though the art style kind of turns me off due to my dislike of Kingdom Hearts
2. Only if I live in japan it would. Other than that I see this as a study on a japanese pop culture group
3. Yes and no. In terms of concept and gameplay it's unique. In terms of setup and functionality it is too much of an action RPG

1. I think it's extremely refreshing to see a Japanese RPG, or any RPG for that matter, take place in a modern setting. It's one of the reasons why Persona 3 is one of my all-time favorite RPGs. Gameplay and design wise, it's also very satisfying to see developers do something different as opposed to the same tried and true formulaic stuff we've been subjected to for the past decade or so.
2. The unique modern-Japanese style of the game is the biggest reason why I'm excited to play it. I'm already a huge fan of Japanese culture so this is a no-brainer for me to purchase.
3. The World Ends With You is one of the more unique traditional games but it's still not as quirky or wierd as some of the other DS titles available such as Electroplankton or Master of Illusion. With that being said, it is still a very unique game in its own right and is more of a unique take on a genre that's already been done such as Elite Beat Agents with rhythm games or Kirby Canvas Curse with platformers.
What is your first impression of this innovative title regarding gameplay, creativity, and design?
Looks to be pretty ambitious. It'll either be a great game, or a waste of potential. From what reviews are out now, it seems to be the former.
This game's story, character, and design is heavily influenced by Japan's modern culture (food, fashion, music, etc). Would this affect your purchasing decision?
No, it does not.
Would you consider this title as unique and catchy compared to other titles currently offered for DS? If not, what other games would you compare this game with?
I looked at some previews for this game last month, and it seemed to be very different than the other games I've seen on the DS. I'll know for sure when it comes out.
1. I really love games that utilize the DS in such a way that the game could ONLY work on the DS, and this is obviously such a title.
2. To some degree, I suppose. It is always interesting to see what is hip in other cultures.
3. Not only is this title unique, it is so unique it is almost scary. I'm not sure I'll be able to deal with the battle system!

1. The gameplay seems intriguing probably the best part is the active time battle. The stylus play could be pretty good also.
2. No. It makes the game unique, but that alone does not make it a good game.
3. Unique yes. Catchy? I don't even understand what you mean by that, so I'd have to say no because it's not something that people can just see and get use to. It's different.

1. My First impression is that it kind of reminds me of River City Ransom redone as an RPG instead of a beat'em up.
2. Yes it would. I'm very interested in Japanese culture and would love to see how well it would lend itself to a game.
3. This title definitely seems unique, almost like River City Ransom mixed with Kingdom Hearts mixed with a dash of pop culture.

What is your first impression of this innovative title regarding gameplay, creativity, and design?
This game looks good. It kind of has that old school feeling that many games lack now.
This game's story, character, and design is heavily influenced by Japan's modern culture (food, fashion, music, etc). Would this affect your purchasing decision? Not really, but since I am asian this may be interesting for me.
Would you consider this title as unique and catchy compared to other titles currently offered for DS? If not, what other games would you compare this game with?Yes because you can upgrade you characters a lot. Also the coop is a great feature because you don't see that much in handheld gaming.

1. The game really looks interesting. I applaud Square for making a game that is different from what others are making.
2. Yes. I think it's good to open your eyes and experience how others cultures think and live, although the experience here is limited as this is a video game.
3. This game is unique. If it compares to any games, it would have to be to games like Hotel Dusk and Phoenix Wright in that it breaks the mold .

1. It feels to me square is trying something new, which is quite shocking! It leaves a good impression on me, because they're not pumping out remakes, spinoffs, or more Final Fantasies.
2. It won't affect my purchasing decision because if it's a bad game, I wouldn't care how much Japanese culture the game had.
3. I think the title is very unique but not very catchy.

It looks great.
2. This game's story, character, and design is heavily influenced by Japan's modern culture (food, fashion, music, etc). Would this affect your purchasing decision?
Minimal influence.
3. Would you consider this title as unique and catchy compared to other titles currently offered for DS? If not, what other games would you compare this game with?
Yes. Though it strikes me as a cross between Draglade and Gitaroo Man with a Kingdom Hearts character design.

Thanks Cheapy and GCD, I'd love to win this game. :)
1.) It's very hard to judge gameplay from screenshots and a text summary, but the use of both screens to control two characters is intriguing. As far as creativity and design, Tetsuya seems to have put a lot of effort into making this title look and sound as different as possible from traditional rpgs.
2.) I'm fascinated by modern Japanese culture, and haven't seen a lot of it in video games, so this would definitely be a positive.
3.) This game looks and sounds more unique than most, if not all current DS games. The only game I can think of that uses a similar two-character system is Cookie and Cream, but nothing else on the DS shares the art and music style. I will definitely want to check this game out.

1. The game looks very interesting. While the gameplay does intrigue me it looks as if it can get complicated.
2. I suppose to some extent it might since I enjoy games that give me an insight to other cultures.
3. I would definitely consider this a unique game but I wouldn't classify it as a catchy game since it does not look like a game someone can see and get accustomed to.

What is your first impression of this innovative title regarding gameplay, creativity, and design?
First off it has a great title. Everything about this game looks pretty awesome. I'm not sure how hard it will be to control two screens at once but it's sounding better and better with each article I read
This game's story, character, and design is heavily influenced by Japan's modern culture (food, fashion, music, etc). Would this affect your purchasing decision?
I'm going to say no. The only reason I'm saying this is because if it was the same game set in modern Yugoslavia I'd still be interested. Wihle i"m glad to see a new setting that isn't fantasy based this game just sounds like too much fun in any time period.
Would you consider this title as unique and catchy compared to other titles currently offered for DS? If not, what other games would you compare this game with?
how can you not? THis game is definitly one of the more unique RPGs on the portable system. Probabl one of the more unique games period. I haven't been hyped for a game from Day-1 like thi since Kirby Canvas Curse on the DS and maybe No More Heroes on the Wii.

What is your first impression of this innovative title regarding gameplay, creativity, and design?Dual screens look awesome, but I hope playing two characters at the same time isn't that tricky. I'm not the young gamer I used to be.
2.This game's story, character, and design is heavily influenced by Japan's modern culture (food, fashion, music, etc). Would this affect your purchasing decision?
I'm kinda an anime nerd on the weekends. From what I've seen of gameplay, I like most of the stylistic choices. The fact that it's Japanese vs. American teenage culture doesn't dissuade me. Although using 'bling' in the context; eek.
3.Would you consider this title as unique and catchy compared to other titles currently offered for DS? If not, what other games would you compare this game with?
There are many many different types of games out for the DS, and I think this game really stands out. From a purchasing point of view, it was one of the few new IPs I was planning on buying for any system this year, at least thus far.
I know this wasn't what you meant, but-
Re: The title: I was really hoping they'd name it 'It's A Wonderful World', because then they'd use that song in the promos, and so everytime it came on the TV, I was hoping it was an announcement for this game. Honestly, 'The World Ends With You' sounds emo and melodramatic, which fits when you consider the overall game, but I don't know if someone who hasn't heard of the game would think it 'unique' or 'catchy.';)

The art style of this game is really unique. It reminds me a bit of Jet Set Radio and Elite Beat Agents, but is different enough to stand out on its own. I like that it's an RPG set in modern Tokyo instead of a more typical RPG setting.
I'm more likely to buy the game because of its modern Japanese cultural influence. My wife and I really want to go to Japan for a vacation sometime, so this game would be a great preview of what it's like to be there (minus the monster battling).
The DS has its fair share of RPGs, but I think this one is unique enough to stand on its own, if nothing else for the art style and for the setting.

1. What is your first impression of this innovative title regarding gameplay, creativity, and design?
I really like the ambitious use of the two screens. I also like the Dance Dance Revolution-influenced combat---I'm a big music-game fan, so I'm very excited by the idea of combat that pulls from that.
And yeah, I'm happy to see Square Enix trying a new IP. FInal Fantasy is great, but I like to see something new. It's especially neat to see an RPG set in the present, as the genre tends to be so overwhelmingly fantasy-based.
2. This game's story, character, and design is heavily influenced by Japan's modern culture (food, fashion, music, etc). Would this affect your purchasing decision?
Somewhat---like any gamer, I have a bit of a thing for J-style. But I'm mostly influenced by the fact that it looks like Jet Grind Radio, one of my favorite games ever.
3. Would you consider this title as unique and catchy compared to other titles currently offered for DS? If not, what other games would you compare this game with?
Definitely, definitely! As far as comparisons: I might compare it to Kirby Canvas Curse for its innovations in DS use, or to Draglade for its musical combat. But really, I can't think of any DS game that I could closely compare it to---and that's a good thing! That's what originality means.

One of my most anticipated games at a less than anticipatory price!
What is your first impression of this innovative title regarding gameplay, creativity, and design?
I was generally surprised it was developed by Square. Way too out there for their usual fare. But that makes it all the more interesting. With a decent learning curve apparently in place for the complex combat system, I'm looking forward to it.
This game's story, character, and design is heavily influenced by Japan's modern culture (food, fashion, music, etc). Would this affect your purchasing decision?
I wouldn't say so... neither positively or negatively, though I suppose it will be interesting to experience a small virtual slice of Japan while playing.
Would you consider this title as unique and catchy compared to other titles currently offered for DS? If not, what other games would you compare this game with?
It certainly seems to be a pretty unique offering on the DS, even though the DS seems to thrive on unique offerings. Definitely something that was built to its strengths and worth checking out.

1. Have heard of the game before, so don't quite remember *first* impression... I like the modern design, and based the screenshots above, I'm intrigued to learn more about the gameplay.
2. It increases my chances of purchasing.
3. Yes. Yay to unique titles on the DS.

1. I really like the look of this game, kinda reminds me of Sega's Jet Set Radio series in terms of design, that's a good thing.
2. It doesn't affect my decision to purchase, but the style & design is nice.
3. Yes, it looks unique, definitely stands out, I'm very interested in this game.

It seems like the flexibiity of the system and unique design will either make this a new classic for SE or the other extreme: will end up being one of those "great games that nobody played".
While personally I am slightly put off by the visual style of the game, the Japanese-influenced content (particularly the music) holds a lot of appeal for me.
I feel like the DS has a variety of interesting/oddball titles such as DQH: Rocket Slime (yes, another Square Enix title), but too games many are stuck with the theme of Pokemon/Mario...its nice to see that TWEWY offers a twist on the RPG genre without losing its polish at the expense of altering the usual formula.

That hopefully Square Enix will work some of its RPG magic for it.

1. The game looks really flushed out, and I'm really excited about that. Square's non-port DS games are shaping up to be very good, and I hope they keep it up!
2. I love the style, and I love getting to look at this different crazy subculture. Plus, it kinda reminds me of Jet Set Radio, which I am still very much in love with.
3. The title and boxart alone make it pop out among a wall full of cutesy anime DS titles. I don't think TWEWY will have any problem grabbing people's attention.

1. What piqued my interest first was the title. As I read more details about the game, I was excited to see that it was an action RPG (a genre I enjoy) and the colorful anime style characters and backgrounds looked fun. The battle system seems unique as does the creative utlilization of both DS screens.
2. While I am fascinated by other cultures, the heavy Japanese influence doesn't affect my decision either way to buy this game. I am more interested in an entertaining storyline, battle system, and gameplay. If all those elements are there then I'm happy with just about any cultural influence.
3. From what I've seen so far this does look like one of the more unique DS titles out there. I'm trying to think of other games to compare it to but I really can't come up with any. I like RPG's, but unfortunately don't seem to have enough time to committ to many of them these days. I've had my eye very closely on this game however, and that hasn't happened in quite some time.

I *love* the fact that the game isn't sent in some pseudo-medieval world of magic. Sometimes I get tired of that stuff but still want an RPG experience, you know? That fact coupled with the dual screen battles makes me really interested in the title.
Honestly, I'm more inclined to buy it knowing that it takes place in modern Tokyo.
Although I haven't played The World Ends With You yet, the descriptions of the battle mechanics remind me of Atlus' Draglade. Still, the entire game seems very original and a wonderful addition to the DS library. I'd love to see more games take the standard RPG formula and add twists like this.

Worried about doing touchscreen and button presses, but it has character designs from tetsuya nomura(sp).
Not Really, again I just wanted to buy this because I enjoy tetsuya nomura's work
I'd say the control scheme is interesting, so yeah it should be a different experience.

1) The talent involved alone merits a purchase, however, the combat system makes me wonder how well I can multitask.
2) The fact that it is heavily influenced by Japanese culture is interesting, however, I am now sure how well this would apeal to American audiances as a whole.
3) Unique looks like the best word to describe this game.

What is your first impression of this innovative title regarding gameplay, creativity, and design?
A) I love it.
This game's story, character, and design is heavily influenced by Japan's modern culture (food, fashion, music, etc). Would this affect your purchasing decision?
A) Yes, more likely to buy.
Would you consider this title as unique and catchy compared to other titles currently offered for DS? If not, what other games would you compare this game with?
A) I love quirky titles and unique games , compared to electroplankton, professor layton's curious village, Ace attorney series, Hotel dusk room 215 which i just finished and has a nice payoff

1. As far as gameplay and creativity its definitely something that sounds new and I would like to try. For design it reminds me of Kingdom Hearts just looking at the graphics.
2. Not really.
3. It does sound unique as far as gameplay is concerned, not really sure about catchy. Great to see that the DS has a quite a few titles like this, that try something different every so often.

1. What is your first impression of this innovative title regarding gameplay, creativity, and design?
Looks like an interesting departure from the norm in both gameplay and style. Something a lot of game companys are afraid to do.
2. This game's story, character, and design is heavily influenced by Japan's modern culture (food, fashion, music, etc). Would this affect your purchasing decision?
Yea, the fashion aspect looks very interesting. I love games that take style head on (rez for example) and this is def one of them.
3. Would you consider this title as unique and catchy compared to other titles currently offered for DS? If not, what other games would you compare this game with?
Yea, Despite the DS hosting a ton of innovative games (Cooking Mama, Professor Layton, etc) the fact that you control 2 characters at once using both screens makes it pretty unique.

1. What is your first impression of this innovative title regarding gameplay, creativity, and design?
At first I was kind of iffy about the gameplay, and it still looks odd to me. The creativity and design of the game are really what makes me want to try it out.
2. This game's story, character, and design is heavily influenced by Japan's modern culture (food, fashion, music, etc). Would this affect your purchasing decision?
That make me want it even more.
3. Would you consider this title as unique and catchy compared to other titles currently offered for DS? If not, what other games would you compare this game with?
I'm not really sure. There is not much on the DS that uses a present or futuristic setting in a RPG. Maybe Contact but the gameplay is very different.

I've been testdriving a euro version and there are a lot of things I like about this game. The fact that your items grow while you're not playing is a huge plus. I'm stressed enough w/o having to play every week just so I don't remember what's going on. The fact that you can take your time and get benefits for doing so is awesome.
Controlling the bottom and top screen at the same time is still rather complicated but when I actually check my health bar it seems like I don't get hit nearly as often as I think I am. Luckily having the computer take over works pretty well.

1. My first impression came several months ago when I saw my friend playing this after her trip to Japan. I found it to be a unique title with an interesting battle system, as well as an interesting design and appealing aesthetic.
2. This somewhat affects my decision to play the game. I'm interested in Japanese culture and foreign cultures in general, so anything that is heavily steeped in a different culture appeals to me.
3. Yes, it is quite unique compared to other non-SquareEnix titles on the market. The look, feel, and gameplay are quite interesting and different than other games of its type.

My first impression, when the game was first announced, was that it looked incredibly interesting. Not to be a jerk, though, but I've gotten a tad tired of Nomura-san. Kingdom Hearts II didn't do it for me, and I think he's a bit overrated. And what's with all the zippers? However, now that the game is released, and I can read about the finished product, I honestly think it looks great. I love that it has a real theme, the aspect of bringing people together and connecting in a world that isn't always all that friendly.
Does that mean modern Japanese wear tons of zippers for no reason? :S In all seriousness, I love Japanese culture, I'm fascinated by it, and I adore any game that has elements of any Japanese culture, ancient, modern or anything in between, but these games aren't always released here. I'm glad this one was released.
It's definitely unique and catchy. There really is nothing to compare it to, especially not in America. I'm sure there are a few Japanese games that might draw comparisons, though they might be remote; Dokodemo Issho and Itadaki Street come (vaguely) to mind, but maybe I just associate them because they're never been released here and I've never played them in English.

1. What is your first impression of this innovative title regarding gameplay, creativity, and design?
A: Well, i first heard about it on a gamefaqs poll, and when I tried to find out about the game, it seemed very unique. Especially with the pins thing. But what really hooked me was the urban Toyko celshaded-like graphics, which reminds me of the Jet Set Radio series.
2. This game's story, character, and design is heavily influenced by Japan's modern culture (food, fashion, music, etc). Would this affect your purchasing decision?
A: I'm not much of a Japanophile ( :P ), so it being based heavily on their culture doesn't push me into getting it. It seems interesting to me but i wouldn't buy the game just on that.
3. Would you consider this title as unique and catchy compared to other titles currently offered for DS? If not, what other games would you compare this game with?
A: It definitely seems very unique and catchy. If you just happen to see screenshots of the game and that doesn't catch your attention, then.... well, WTF!?

1. From everything I've seen and read the game looks very creative in design. I do remember other games where you had to manage two characters at once in a similar manner but can't recall any on the DS where it looks like this will shine.
2. Not at all, it seems to add style without detracting from the game if you don't have any knowledge of the culture.
3. The game is very unique and I can't think of another game to accurately compare it with.

What is your first impression of this innovative title regarding gameplay, creativity, and design?

Would you consider this title as unique and catchy compared to other titles currently offered for DS? If not, what other games would you compare this game with?1. I followed this game for a while, and really got hooked on it by the art style (same guy that did the Kingdom Hearts art), so I followed news on it for a little while. Finding out its main basis was music too is also a big selling point.
2. If it's too weeaboo, it would make me not want to buy it, but it all depends on how things are implemented.
3. Unique, I guess. Controlling two characters at the same time seems a bit difficult, but hopefully it's done well. I guess this goes for anything though, if something new is arguably good and not a cheap gimmick, then I'm all for it. No games will match the greatness of Ouendan/Elite Beat Agents on the DS though, I'm still dying for the next game in those series.

2. The various modern japan culture influences haven't influenced my purchasing decision, but i'm glad it was influenced by modern japanese culture which isn't often seem in rpgs these days. In fact because it has modern japanese influences in it, makes me look more forward to the game's release

It looks fucking awesome, I'm quite fond of the design of this game in general.
2. This game's story, character, and design is heavily influenced by Japan's modern culture (food, fashion, music, etc). Would this affect your purchasing decision?
I'd say yes, I tend to like games that are set in a modern or futuristic setting rather than a fantasy one.
3. Would you consider this title as unique and catchy compared to other titles currently offered for DS? If not, what other games would you compare this game with?
It sure seems so, having to control two characters on two screens is pretty innovative in my opinion. Not to mention the whole plot of the game is rather unique I think.

What I'm curious to know about is what happens after 7 days. in generally I don't like games that take place over arbitrarily short period of times. I had the same problem with T3 actually (most of the movie takes place over 6 hours?). From what I've seen The game is pretty darn deep. By the time you get most of your abilities 3 days have gone. I'm really hoping it doesn't just stretch out the last four days. That brings me back to what happens after the 7 days? That's one of the things i"m most interested in finding out.

CAG BUZZ ENTRY QUESTIONS:
What is your first impression of this innovative title regarding gameplay, creativity, and design?
When I first heard about this game, I was very excited. I know several friends who have felt that Square Enix have become a company that too heavily relies upon cliches and established IPs. That Squenix created a new IP, for the DS, which heavily used DS capabilities, and has a very distinct art style and gameplay is very refreshing.
This game's story, character, and design is heavily influenced by Japan's modern culture (food, fashion, music, etc). Would this affect your purchasing decision?
If this at all affected my decision, it would probably be positively so. I may not know so much about Japanese culture, but I have learned some of it through games (especially JRPGs), anime and manga. The opportunity to learn more in a critically acclaimed Square Enix game is definitely an appealing idea.
Would you consider this title as unique and catchy compared to other titles currently offered for DS? If not, what other games would you compare this game with?
The graphics, the gameplay, and the heavy japanese culture infulence all make this a very unique DS game. The problem with "casual" systems like the Wii and DS are that developers often resort to making quick minigame compilations, or just copy another developer's idea and stick in new characters. The World Ends With You is a fresh game in a library that has some gems, but is also inundated with cliches and over simplicity.

the nature of the plot as it's known kinda lends itself to be sequelized. This is actually something to which I am looking forward. As someone who has had only nintendo systems for about .. well actually lifetime. It'd be nice to get a decent solid series from square again. Rather than spinoffs (i'm lookng at you Crystal Chroncles. even though the first was awesome, and you Tales of Symphonia 2 rather than a whole new Tales)
Mingle mode looks so cool I wish I knew other people with a DS so i could convince them to buy it. It even has a great feature that turns the system off when you red light. I had no idea they could do this. Why haven't everyone else been doing this?
Oh well as I said I never meet anyone with a DS and since I drive myself everywhere the chances of me meeting another DS owner in range.. much less someone who has it on but closed much less is projecting TWEWY rather than Nintendogs, or Animal Crossing or Metroid Prime:Hunters are pretty much nothing.

1. What is your first impression of this innovative title regarding gameplay, creativity, and design?
Looks very creative; bright colors, dynamic artwork; bit concerned about the frantic combat.
2. This game's story, character, and design is heavily influenced by Japan's modern culture (food, fashion, music, etc). Would this affect your purchasing decision?
Yes -- I have a positive bias towards the Japanese culture.
3. Would you consider this title as unique and catchy compared to other titles currently offered for DS? If not, what other games would you compare this game with?

-The game looks like a very awsome rpg from Square!
2. This game's story, character, and design is heavily influenced by Japan's modern culture (food, fashion, music, etc). Would this affect your purchasing decision?
-Not at all, I think games influenced in Japan's modern culture is something the states need more of. It worked well with Persona 3, and that game became a big hit!
3. Would you consider this title as unique and catchy compared to other titles currently offered for DS? If not, what other games would you compare this game with?

1. When i first heard that you could control two characters at once i thought.... Ok. However after thinking about it seems like a very good idea and if they went this way they more than likely added things to make it pretty fun and useful to control that many people.
2. I love the designs of the characters and it was the first thing i noticed about this game was the anime style. Even though the games story is heavily influenced by the culture in japan is fine with me and a major selling point with me since im an anime fan.
3. I would consider this game unique and catchy since most of the games coming down the Ds pipeline for the U.S. haven't been anything that really seems original excluding of course Professor Layton and the Curious Village which was awesome.

1. The visual look of the game was the first thing that caught my eye. I love Tetsuya Nomura's character designs in Kingdom Hearts, and his designs here are really cool and striking. I also liked that it's a sprite-based game, which (aside from Pokemon and ports of older games) is an uncommon thing these days. It wasn't until later on that I started reading up on the gameplay, the story, etc.
2. Though I do think it's a breath of fresh air, the "modern Japan" setting's not as appealing so much as the overall quality of the game - gameplay, music, design, etc. - as well as the pedigree of the people and studio that created it (yeah, I'm a Square Enix fan).
3. It's definitely unique; I haven't seen a DS game quite like it (and I'm still wondering how I'll be able to control characters on both screens at the same time...).

It looks amazing and I think that Square and the people that brought us Kingdom Hearts. The PIN uses and risk/reward gameplay has me extremely intrigued.
No, the only thing that worries me is the fashion aspect. IGN said the main character acts like a dick at times so maybe it will even out.
This looks absoultly unique. Nothing on the DS looks to even attempt to be this unique.I will be picking one up.

1) What is your first impression of this innovative title regarding gameplay, creativity, and design?
Square has a history of innovation in RPG's. I'm expecting good things from what I've seen so far.
2) This game's story, character, and design is heavily influenced by Japan's modern culture (food, fashion, music, etc). Would this affect your purchasing decision?
I like games that keep the flavor of their local culture.
3) Would you consider this title as unique and catchy compared to other titles currently offered for DS? If not, what other games would you compare this game with?
I wouldn't necessarily say unique and catchy. While it may be different in certainw ays, I think it blens in with a long line of different rpg type games. Just not as traditional.

After researching a bit about the game, I find the game very unique. It has it's own style of music and gameplay. The story from what I heard of seems to be very interesting and engrossing.
I don't look for those kinds of things in a game. I simply base it off of the gameplay and story.
This title from what I've heard of it is like Kingdom Hearts. Although, the quirky art style, music, and gameplay really seperate them both. This game for the DS is unique and a very nice addition to the DS library.

i loved dark cloud 2.. even spheda :3I just got a :ps2: last month ($40 CL). Dark Cloud and Odin Sphere are two games I've heard a lot about that I'd like to get. Unfortunatly from what I recall Odin Sphere is going to be a hard find. Luckily my PS2 needs are small. I have most of the games i want. Ace Combat 4, Kingdom Hearts I/II. I don't really want much more than that. GoW 1 and 2 and those other two and I think I'm done.
Namek. haha I totally remember that. I remember that when it first aired (in the US) that did take forever. If they pull that kinda stunt with this game it'll be my one con (aside from the fact I haven't gotten down the nack of controlling top and bottom w/o killing myself). I think what's more likely is some sort of time rest or something but I can't figure out how they'd do it. I don't see this turning into something like Majorah's Mask (doh. I need to play that)I'm actually taking a 2 day hiatus from my borrowed copy to level up my badges. It's gonna be hot.

2. I suppose it probably helped, but as long as the game is fun I would still have considered it if it were set in a hole in the ground.

1) I haven't really done much research into how this game plays, but on first look at the fighting in the game I kind of have no idea what's going on lol. That may be a good or bad thing. May be a new take on a battling system that works really well, or it could just be damn confusing.
2) In one word, yes. There aren't enough games out there that convey the kind of culture that Japan has to offer. Plus I'm a Japan nut myself so seeing a piece of another world is fascinating to me.
3) I'd definitely say it's a unique game in that it seems like it's very stylish and upbeat and really unlike any other game I've played on the DS

What is your first impression of this innovative title regarding gameplay, creativity, and design?
When I first saw this game, it looked like a new Kingdom Hearts game (which I love). The dual screen / dual character control looked really interesting but potentially gimicky. I tend to give Square-Enix the benefit of the doubt though and an entirely new RPG from them designed just for the DS is freaking awesome.
This game's story, character, and design is heavily influenced by Japan's modern culture (food, fashion, music, etc). Would this affect your purchasing decision?
I'm half Japanese and I've really gotten into the J-Pop culture more and more as of late. Its a departure from the classic sword and mana RPGs that I love into another setting that I love just as much. If I didn't win, ofcourse I would buy it (but I'd prefer to win it ;))!
Would you consider this title as unique and catchy compared to other titles currently offered for DS? If not, what other games would you compare this game with?
There hasn't been a game on the DS that has me this excited in a long time. Not even the other Squar-Enix titles have really caught my eye like this one has. I'm picky about games I buy, I just can't afford to buy every new release that comes out, and I've been saving for a while and I think this one would be worthy of my hard earned money.

My first impression would be that the Gameplay is creative as hell with the Dual character controlling on the DS and really using the DS's controls to its advantage. I Also like how they incorporate the characters depressed personality into the gameplay and how people tend to not notice you and you use that with the story of the game.
By the game being influenced by Japan it will likely effect my purchase into a + area as in im more eager to buy in that it being set in say UK or US. Since i really enjoy japanese interesting and sometimes odd culture.
I would consider this The world Ends with you on the upper tier of touch controlled games for the DS since you are always utilizing it into the gameplay when fighting and doing other things/objectives. if i had to compare it to another game it would have to be Zelda: Phantom hourglass for its touching combat/controls.

1. The dual play system looks like it'll be confusing at first. I hope it won't take too long to get used to. Other than that, the style looks great (other than the usual guy who looks way too much like a girl) and the storyline and world work real nicely.
2. The influences are a big reason I'm interested at all, so it won't keep me from getting the game.
3. It's definitely something new, both in look and gameplay. If I had to compare my impressions of it to another game, it'd be Chronos Twin for DS.

1. What is your first impression of this innovative title regarding gameplay, creativity, and design?
Mind-boggling--it initially seemed like some post-modern garbage idea that simply tried to sell itself on being innovative, rather than good quality... obviously, the reviews are indicating otherwise.
2. This game's story, character, and design is heavily influenced by Japan's modern culture (food, fashion, music, etc). Would this affect your purchasing decision?
Japan is actually my number one place I would love to visit... so any exposure to their culture, even a fictional biased one, is welcome.

This game's story, character, and design is heavily influenced by Japan's modern culture (food, fashion, music, etc). Would this affect your purchasing decision?
Would you consider this title as unique and catchy compared to other titles currently offered for DS? If not, what other games would you compare this game with?
1. It seems a little strange to wrap your head around, but once I got the concept down it was aces.
2. It would probably influence me to want to buy the game.
3. Yes this is one of the most innovative and unique titles to come out on the DS. I would not compare it to anything else on the system.

1. It is a very unique design, I don't know if I have ever seen anything like it before.
2. Definitely, but in a good way. I love games that think outside of the box.
3. Yep, this game is one of the most unique on the system. I don't think I could compare to anything else.

The battle system looks very innovative for the ds. from some of the videos i've seen it looks like a combination of chain of memories and elite beat agents. the design is reminiscent of other Tetsuya Nomura games, but without looking like the same ol thing.
I really like japan, so it's kind of a plus for me. i think both nintendo fans and square fans are used to japanese craziness, so i don't think it will phase the core audience for this game.
It's hard to say without having played it, but it does look like they're doing something new. The aesthetic of the game looks like a mesh of kingdom hearts and jet set radio, which is a pretty cool combination.

1. A 2-screen battle system is very exciting, and the graphic design is beautiful.
2. Of course. I enjoy exposure to foreign cultures, and the style of the game sets it apart.
3. This title is very unique. First of all, the DS does not have many good action RPGs at the moment, certainly not any with a bold graphical style like this one. The story is very distinct from just about every RPG out there, since it isn't your cliched fantasy RPG story.

I really enjoy the art style, I love games that show off some crazy art. I'm also interested in see how the all controlling 2 characters at once is going to work out.
I might be more inclined to purchase the game because of this, but either way not likely.
Yes, most of the mainstream games are some kind of coaches or rehashes of games years ago. It's good to see something new and willing to be something new.

1) One word: Refreshing. While I do enjoy RPGs, I am tired of the constant medieval settings.
2) This game's looks remind me so much of Jet Set/Grind Radio... plus it's Square. That affects my purchasing decision.
3) Everything I've read and seen thus far says yes, this game is unique and catchy.

So far it seems like a game that could really take advantage of the DS's unique abilities. I'm just hoping it can do it in a way that makes the game fun and memorable. 2. Not at all. I've been through the Dynasty Warriors series and countless other RPGs (none American made). I think that makes it interesting in a way to play a game when it relates to another culture I guess.
3. From what I read, it seems unique. In order for me to really determine its uniqueness I would have to get my hands on the game to really get a better idea about the game.
1. I was immediately interested because it seemed so different, even the title alone is intriguing.
2. While I don't particularly care about the fashions, I like games that are set in a more modern setting, but with some kind of twist.
3. It looks pretty unique, I'm interested in how it actually plays.

1.) This game really catches my interest in regards to its art design, but the game play has me concerned as to how well I will actually be able to fully take advantage of the two chacter control.
2.) While I'm not extremely interested in Japan's modern culture, the quality of the localization would greatly effect my purchasing decision.
3.) Seems relatively different than other RPGs (especially on the DS) but the touch screen controls don't really wow me anymore (it usually reduces the enjoyment of the game unless it is done really really well and is practical).

What is your first impression of this innovative title regarding gameplay, creativity, and design?Im very interested. The Modern Art style isnt very comun and the shibuya influenced look and art reminds me alot of a favorite game of mine JSR
This game's story, character, and design is heavily influenced by Japan's modern culture (food, fashion, music, etc). Would this affect your purchasing decision? In a positive way yes. Im more interested in games in a modern settign than the stereotypical dragon-age rpg
Would you consider this title as unique and catchy compared to other titles currently offered for DS? If not, what other games would you compare this game withYes. The Modern Arty style and setting plus the interesting dual screen combat is different to the typical DS rpg

1. It really stands out as a unique title. I'm glad that they decided to include music like this in a DS game.

3. This one looks like a distinct winner. I would definitely like to play it and can't think of anything else like it.

1.) I was immediately drawn to this game because of the visual style and I've been dying to get my hands on it to see how it plays. Looks pretty awesome, IMO.
2.) Wouldn't really affect my decisions... I don't play a game because it's Japanese or not, I play it because it looks good and this one looks like something I'd buy.
3.) This looks like nothing else on the DS at all. Graphically and, from what I've seen, gameplay wise it looks like one of a kind. Another reason I want to get my hands on it.

1. From the info I've seen/read, this game looks very intriguing and innovative. The gameplay looks phenomenal.
2. Because I'm interested in Japanese culture, this game is of even more interest to myself and I would more likely purchase it.

What is your first impression of this innovative title regarding gameplay, creativity, and design?
I really enjoy the look of this game. It seems very unique. The touchscreen seems to be utilized well like most DS games nowadays. Most of the gameplay seems to be different from most games out there now which could be either good or bad.
This game's story, character, and design is heavily influenced by Japan's modern culture (food, fashion, music, etc). Would this affect your purchasing decision?
No, not at all.
Would you consider this title as unique and catchy compared to other titles currently offered for DS? If not, what other games would you compare this game with?
This games seems very unique with RPG and rhythm elements. The closest title that I could think of might be Draglade that was release by Atlus.

1. What is your first impression of this innovative title regarding gameplay, creativity, and design?
I didn't like the art style at first, but after watching some videos it looks pretty interesting. I really like the modern setting and the characters.
2. This game's story, character, and design is heavily influenced by Japan's modern culture (food, fashion, music, etc). Would this affect your purchasing decision?
It doesn't affect me since I've been gaming for a long time, so I'm used to Japan's culture. So it wouldn't affect my purchasing decision.
3. Would you consider this title as unique and catchy compared to other titles currently offered for DS? If not, what other games would you compare this game with?
The art style and setting is kinda unique to me. I don't think I can compare this game to another.

2. That's actually a plus.

1. I think its a bit more creative from other JRPG's in the fact that it takes place in modern day Tokyo.
2. Well since I'm Japanese, I'm very interested in almost everything Japanese, so its a big plus for me.
3.Yes an no, its setting is one of its high points, something new and unique. But its story, its still stuck in the cliche of JRPG's.

1.It seems to me from the text alittle like SMT Noctunre but with a less mature tones. THe art does look great as I do like the Jet set Radio with Manga style of art. It seem to have a great creative part but the story ... seems little lacking unless there is something I am missing.
2. Really in to the whole Japanese stuff but it could be a good or bad thing depending on the translation of the game. It does affect my purchasing decision, more postive then not.
3.This seems to be a very unique game with more of a mature feel to it. This is comparing it to games that are on the ds. From the impression I got it feels like a SMT game but with a Twist.

2. This game's story, character, and design is heavily influenced by Japan's modern culture (food, fashion, music, etc). Would this affect your purchasing decision?
If the game plays well and it doesnt affect my understanding of the story, it doesnt really matter.
3. Would you consider this title as unique and catchy compared to other titles currently offered for DS? If not, what other games would you compare this game with?

2. This game's story, character, and design is heavily influenced by Japan's modern culture (food, fashion, music, etc). Would this affect your purchasing decision?

1. What is your first impression of this innovative title regarding gameplay, creativity, and design?
I think that the game certainly looks interesting. It reminds me quite a bit of Jet Set Radio which is definitely a good thing. The character designs have a bit of Kingdom Hearts in them too which always had relatively attractive designs. When I first heard about this game I was intrigued and then I became more intrigued by it when I saw the first screens.
2. This game's story, character, and design is heavily influenced by Japan's modern culture (food, fashion, music, etc). Would this affect your purchasing decision?
I think the style of this game has certainly made me want this game much more then the average Square-Enix Final Dragon Hearts release.
3. Would you consider this title as unique and catchy compared to other titles currently offered for DS? If not, what other games would you compare this game with?
I'd say it certainly is unique in that it looks very splashy and attractive. While I don't think this game is the most unique game visually on the DS (Hotel Dusk and Contact still eek it out) I do think that it is one of the more unique experiences on the DS if we're talking in terms of pure visuals.
1. What is your first impression of this innovative title regarding gameplay, creativity, and design?
The first thing that catches my eye is definitely the art style. With its similarity to Jet Set Radio/Grind it continues to stand out, the style is unique and recognizable.
2.This game's story, character, and design is heavily influenced by Japan's modern culture (food, fashion, music, etc). Would this affect your purchasing decision?
This certainly affects my purchasing decision. One thing that worried me was whether or not the translation would over exaggerate the culture. For example, too much slang or making the same modern culture too over the top, causing it to detract from actual gameplay. Fortunately, from what I've heard, this isn't the case.
3. Would you consider this title as unique and catchy compared to other titles currently offered for DS? If not, what other games would you compare this game with?
The art style alone makes this game stand out. Add to that the battle system, pin collecting and other little intricacies (NPC relationships? (See top screen (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/images/game%20images/WEWY2.jpg) "The usual?" Has the player been there before?) Multiplayer mini-game?), makes it a unqiue game that only seems to be missing the kitchen sink.

one thing people haven't mentioned is the scalability. To use a bad example FFIII I played thru till I got to the end and I'm about 20 levels away from where I need to be so I have to do all this battling against punk enemies to get job levels and then I'll hvae to do it again to gain real levels so I can be set up for the final boss.
In this game you can scale yourself down the the enemy's level so even if you need the exp you get a bonus of more drop rate which is awesome.

What is your first impression of this innovative title regarding gameplay, creativity, and design? This is a must-get game for me. The comparisons to Kingdom Hearts alone, make this sought after. I, however, do not purchase games at full price, so I hope the lack of appeal to "typical" ds owners will work in my favor of sales and clearances.
This game's story, character, and design is heavily influenced by Japan's modern culture (food, fashion, music, etc). Would this affect your purchasing decision? Yes. I have always been fascinated by Japan culture. The emo factor seemed to be a turn-off at first, but I think that the growth of the character will help overcome my concern about that issue.
Would you consider this title as unique and catchy compared to other titles currently offered for DS? If not, what other games would you compare this game with? I don't think this compares to anything that is offered on the ds as of now. I don't think "catchy" is the correct term for it, but the game is definitely going to be a stylized niche title.

Kind of like a cross between Jet Grind Radio and Shin Megami Tensei. I'm in. This may be the title to force a purchase of the DS.
I think that the design and makeup of the game are essential to the story overall. If this was not steeped in the context of Japan's current trends I am not sure that the story would work .
The initial disoriented dilemma alone sparks interest. The cell-phone message has Ringu overtones, and the art style hits the subject matter square in the face. Again, this game may push a system purchase.

1. I love the direction the developers took with the art style and overall design. There really isn't too many games of this style, and this game is a must-purchase for me. The gameplay comparisons to games like Kingdom Hearts also make me have to buy it.
2. Yes - in a good way. I love Japanese modern culture, so this only makes me want the game more.
3. I would consider this game unique for the DS. I can think of no other like it.

one of my major concerns has been how the game will handle the 7 day time line? will the entire game fit in 7 days (improbably after the first 4 hours) or will the game do some sort of reset (ala Majorah's Mask). I can safely say that fear has been alleviated. With that out of the way my only gripe remains with my lack of ability to control top and bottom at once, but since the computer does an excellent job controlling the top I don't consider this a con. Between the depth, design, gameplay and story this is shaping up to be the best of the DS RPGs. I just hope it catches on as much as it should. The game is really really addicting. You can spend entire days dialing your level down to match the monsters and just reap the extra loot while growing your badges.

1. It looked like my style - touch-screen combat, viewtiful joe-esque styling, and of course - it's from the same team that did Kingdom Hearts.

What is your first impression of this innovative title regarding gameplay, creativity, and design? At first I will say it didn't even cross my mind about getting it. But a friend show me a video of it and I was hooked, I started reading more about it and I'm so excited to see how the 2 screens were put to use. Also the level of detail was a nice balance of enough stuff but not over whelming. I'm now very excited about this game.
2. This game's story, character, and design is heavily influenced by Japan's modern culture (food, fashion, music, etc). Would this affect your purchasing decision?
Yes and No. No as in game culture doesn't effect me from buying a game, but Yes as I love the culture that it's displaying and how it's displayed, so it does help me want it more!

1. When I first saw videos of this game at the Square-Enix store last year, the gameplay confused me. It looked like too many things were going on at the same time.
2. Next to the interesting gameplay design, the artistic direction is the second biggest factor contributing to my purchase of the game. I love Japanese culture, so the more heavily influenced, the better for me.
3. Seeing as how most of the games on the Nintendo DS are trite and uninspired, this game is about as unique as it gets. There's honestly very little to compare this game to as most of the other DS games are simply horrible.

!) I personally thought at first that game seems too busy and eratic to be played by a westerner but alittle time with some videos gets a rythmn to the game and combat slows down a bit. The combat looks like a mix between a typical square RPG and The Bouncer (PS2) and but the style looks like elite beat agents which is a good thing.
@) Japanese culture is so alien to the west that something that acts as a window is very much welcomed. I wouldnt buy it just for the style alone, it needs to have compelling story and gameplay which isnt a question from square enix.
#) It is unique but everything coming out for the DS is unique. There isnt another place (except maybe the PC) where you can find Prof. Layton, Ninja Gaiden and this game. It looks like an amalgamation of many different games (Jet Grind, Elite Beat Agents, anything by Suda 51 and this video by Paul Robertson called Pirate Baby's Cabana Battle Street Fight 2006) and I dont think that is a bad thing when pulled off correctly.

heck yeah m3talst0rm (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/member.php?u=43589) for being a cag.. I'm with you guy.
1. The game looks very busy and it would be unwieldy to control. The art direction is what I would expect from the creator Tetsuya Nomura. It doesn't excite me or reduce any interest I would've had for the game.
2. This would only affect my purchasing decision in a positive way since I'm very interested in RPGs set in real world environments. I think the setting is a fascinating real world place. (especially after seeing Lost in Translation)
3. This game is certainly unique and there would few games to compare it to. Based on screenshots it looks similar to KH Chain of Memories, simply because of how the battles look. (Sprites running around and hitting each other with stuff scattered in the field to collect)

2. Any game with Japanese culture as its basis piques my interest, so yet it would influence me.
3. It is a very unique game in its own right. The art style sets itself apart from other DS games out today.

1. It certainly does look innovative. My first impression of the game was "hey, this looks pretty stylish."
2. I have an interest in that culture, but it would really only affect any purchasing decisions minimally. What's important is not what culture the game is influenced by, but rather how well it translates that influence into good gameplay.
3. It does look pretty unique, from the artstyle and setting to the title.

the game does look super emo doesn't it. good thing the gameplay is way up there or it would be a problem.
1. - At first I really didn't like the idea of the game, back when it was announced for Japan, due to the fact it has exactly the same art style as the Kingdom Heart games, I figured it was just riding off that to sell some copies. I've warmed up to the game significantly since then, after watching some gameplay videos and reading more about it.
2. - As long as the game isn't horribly gouged by localizing trying to bring over the same feel, but in an 'americanized' way, then I'm fine with it, honestly.
3. - Question's confusing, first you say title, then you say game. Title's a bit funny, as it was 'It's a wonderful World' in japan, but 'The world ends with you' when brought over. As for how it compares to other DS games, the combat looks like it'll fit in with the rest just fine. I have a feeling it won't sell as well as some other titles to the general public, but it should do quite fine for actual gamers.

I really like the art style, and it looks like a cool new franchise for Square/Enix.
It really is not a factor. I enjoy games from all regions.
When I first saw the screenshots, the art style reminded me of Jet Grind (Set) Radio and Under the Skin. So, yes, in that vein I would consider it visually unique and catchy just as those games were.

What is your first impression of this innovative title regarding gameplay, creativity, and design? Honestly, anything new is always welcome. I'm so fed up with pseudo euro pseudo medival structuring that it drives me nuts. Space Marine is catching up but I'm sick of being a Wizard.
This game's story, character, and design is heavily influenced by Japan's modern culture (food, fashion, music, etc). Would this affect your purchasing decision? I'm a monster japanse fan so, yeah, to no end.
Would you consider this title as unique and catchy compared to other titles currently offered for DS? If not, what other games would you compare this game with?I do consider it unique, the comparisions I'd make for the sake of comparing might be Earthbound and Persona.

1. The battle system seems cool, finally using both screens on the DS.
2. I think that the heavy Japanese pop culture influence will attract a lot of people.
3. In terms of gameplay, the only game that might compare is Ninja Gaiden DS in that they both use the stylus to form attacks. The art style is like Jet Set Radio or Viewtiful Joe.

1. What is your first impression of this innovative title regarding gameplay, creativity, and design?
Initially, I was skeptical, since Nomura can basically be singly blamed for spiky-haired, metal-clad, androgynous protagonists. The fashion based equip system is interesting, but seems like it can turn out to be just a fresh coat of paint on an otherwise conventional accessory/equipment base.
2. This game's story, character, and design is heavily influenced by Japan's modern culture (food, fashion, music, etc). Would this affect your purchasing decision?
Whenever a RPG strays from the tried and true Dungeons and Dragons or Sci-Fi backdrops, my interest is immediately piqued. Not that these conventions automatically make for a derivative game, but as a huge RPG fan, I find I can only fight so many dragons or aliens before I get mentally fatigued and it all blends together. The exaggerated modern scene of what is to me a foreign environment can only be refreshing, whether it resonates with me personally or not.
3. Would you consider this title as unique and catchy compared to other titles currently offered for DS? If not, what other games would you compare this game with?
This is probably the most unique game available for the DS. There are no virtual pets or brain teasers as far as I'm aware. The easy comparison to make would be to Kingdom Hearts based on the people involved, only leaning less for established intellectual properties and more on popular culture a la Jet Set Radio.

1. To me the style looks a little like Jet Set Radio. I like what I have been reading about the battle system, seems very innovative and fun.
2. Yes, I like to learn more about different cultures and any RPG that can be based on modern society (a la Earthbound) immediately grabs my attention.
3. Yes I would call it very unique. Many of the games coming out for the DS right now seem to be following a distinct pattern of Petz titles or casual games. This is a great shot in the arm for the system.

1. Love the use of colors in the screen shots though some of the dialogue appears to be be odd (firm noodle reference has a latent homoerotic theme- this is meant to be a joke).

3. Game appears to be unique based on what I have seen.

1 - My first impression is that this original IP will be a breath of fresh air for DS RPGs. The gameplay looks engaging, especially the split screen combat. The design is visually attractive and interesting. I hope the originality really shines through.
2 - The inclusion of Japan's culture doesn't affect my decision to want this game however having the food, fashion, music, and more included, regardless of culture, is a big draw for me.
3 - I think this title is extremely unique and interesting. I feel that those who do not already know about it may easily overlook it though.

1. First impression is that the game is trying to utilize the capabilities of the DS in an innovative way, (remotely) similar to the Phantom Hourglass and its use of the stylus.
2. The influence of Japanese culture on this game will not be a factor in whether or not I would consider buying this game.
3. I honestly know of no other game I can compare to this game.
1. What is your first impression of this innovative title regarding gameplay, creativity, and design?
With no background knowledge of this game when I saw the artwork for the first time, I had no idea that it was a Square-Enix game. From the art style and gameplay, I thought it was one of those niche action/RPGs that Atlus might localize, because they're usually the ones who localize innovative games. When I noticed the high production quality and marketting for this game, I finally read up on it and was surprised that it was a new Square-Enix game. It was refreshing because this wasn't formulaic at all. The parallels in design between this and Kingdom Hearts and Jet Set Radio piqued my interest.
2. This game's story, character, and design is heavily influenced by Japan's modern culture (food, fashion, music, etc). Would this affect your purchasing decision?
I actually prefer games that explore other cultures in an exotic way. You can still draw the roots of that culture through it's foreign influences, so there's a familiarity to it. Yet, it's different enough to be interesting to explore.
3. Would you consider this title as unique and catchy compared to other titles currently offered for DS? If not, what other games would you compare this game with?
The DS is the home to some of the most unique titles I've seen, along with the Wii. With so many, it's impossible to compare. It is however one of the more unique action/RPGs on the DS.

1. It uses both screens simultaneously, each with separate gameplay. It looks challenging and seems to be an innovative use of the DS's features.
2. It would affect my decision only slightly. The setting is a bit different, which makes it more interesting.
3. It seems to stand out from other titles, but I can't say more than that without playing it. (hint, hint)

What is your first impression of this innovative title regarding gameplay, creativity, and design?
I want to say that it being designed by Square-Enix isn't a swaying factor in my first impression. I want to say that, but it is. Unfortunately, for all the great games SE puts out, they have a bad habit of being crushed under the weight of their own ambition. We'll see how it goes.
This game's story, character, and design is heavily influenced by Japan's modern culture (food, fashion, music, etc). Would this affect your purchasing decision?
I have a rather deep rooted fondness of the Super Sentai TV series, so I don't think it can throw anything at me more blatently Japanese than that. I certainly won't be buying it BECAUSE of the Japanese pop culture references though.
Would you consider this title as unique and catchy compared to other titles currently offered for DS? If not, what other games would you compare this game with?
All games on the DS strive for uniqueness. That's one of the main selling point of a system with a totally unique control scheme. It does have a lot going for it, but still the threat of being crushed by it's ambition looms overhead.

It seems like a really creative game both in regards to stylistic choice and gameplay. It's a little Cookie & Cream with regards to doing two things at the same time, but it's supposed to work well, so I'm pretty excited to play it.
I don't know if that particular aesthetic is anything that would directly make me purchase the game as much as it's something that won't make me not buy the game, like perhaps a baseball, or any sports aesthetic for that matter, might. It doesn't look bad and the gameplay seems pretty fresh, so I'll definitely check it out.
It seems like a very unique title for the DS, definitely. I can absolutely see Tetsuya Nomura's influence on the game through and through, which isn't something that bothers me generally, and now, it even seems to make more sense, given the gameplay style.

1.The game easily separates itself from anything else on the ds in regards to the visual design and use of both screens
2.The fact that it takes place in modern times does have me leaning toward this if it was between purchasing this or an rpg that took place in some fantasy setting as most do.
3.I can't think of anything on the ds but for reason this reminds of persona 3...I think its b/c even though the graphics aren't great, there very slick and stylish considering the lack of power of the system (which is similar to persona 3 on the ps2)

The game looks amazing. It's pushing the boundaries on the DS. It's also integrating the stylus very well for combat.

1. At first, I dismissed it as a mere fashion-centric JRPG with Nomura's penchant for belts and zippers. As I continued to read more about it, I obviously became more interested, this time I was surprised that some of the items were ACTUAL Japanese cuisine. And then there's the crazy battle system... I thought this game would be quite challenging, mainly because of the need to concentrate on both screens.
2. Actually, it wouldn't influence my decision at all. I was planning to buy this game since it is a Square Enix game, but being a cheap ass gamer I decided to wait a little longer, when prices dropped or something. As usual the designs are pretty nice, considering it is quite cartoony, a contrast to the hyper realism other SE games express.
3. I actually don't know with what to compare this game. It would most likely be the Elite Beat Agents games, considering their attempts to reach multiple audiences with their crazy designs.

04-24-2008, 10:35 AM
1. I actually first thought this would be a Japan-exclusive game. But it looked so cool and refreshingly modern, such as Shiki's outfit. Nomura's style is definitely noticable, but they actually look like normal teenagers. I was also surprised to learn battles use both screens, instead of the top screen functioning as a map.
2. I was very shocked to learn Square Enix was doing a fantasy game set in modern Shibuya, Japan. But as an anime fan, it really intrigues me. It actually makes me want to buy it more, as it is different from the European/American setting style fantasy games.
3. I would definitely consider it unique. I actually like the U.S./Europe title of "The World Ends With You" better than "It's a Wonderful World." It sounds so much more mysterious.
Blade
04-24-2008, 12:06 PM
1. The World Ends With You stands out in every aspect. In terms of gameplay, Square-Enix has produced possibly the most innovative RPG game ever. On the bottom screen, you play as Neku, using the stylus to move around, slash enemies, and hurl objects. On the top screen, you play as Neku's partner by using the D-Pad and buttons for combinations to attack alternate versions of the same enemies. All of this is augmented further by simple card games in the top center of the top screen, such as War and Poker, that are won by selecting the correct combos. When you win at these, your characters perform devastating combos and regain a bit of their joint health bar. It's so insane and difficult-sounding that you can't possibly deny the creative genius that made it.
2. While the game is steeped in modern Japanese culture, it also appeals to foreign audiences. It gives those of us who can't afford a trip to Japan to experience its culture and places in a new way. The game generally seems very hip and trendy, with its unique visual flair; everything is colorful, edgy, and looks great on the DS's dual LCD screens. Possibly the greatest cultural feature of this game is the music. I read that an insane amount of current artists are contributing to a high-energy mix of dance, trance, and hip-hip tracks. And the tunes are catchy, with lyrics you'll remember until you die.
3. This game is possibly the most unique and creative DS game I've seen. Other games, such as Cooking Mama and Trauma Center, are obvious staples to a handheld with a touch-screen, but fully incorporating the touch-screen with the regular screen and a card game in the same battle is phenomenally inventive. How many games expect you to have three games going on at once? Zero many, that's how many. I expect this game to redefine and revolutionize the way we look at handheld RPGs.

2. Personally, I enjoy the whole Japanese vibe. The whole Japanese pop culture interests me whether its fashion, food, music, or games. Ever check out Danny Choo's webpage?
3. Very unique and catchy. I'm glad they take a chance on bringing a game like this to the American market. It's good to know there are enough of us with similar tastes to make it a profitable choice for them.

1. Like all games I will have to see if this one lives up to its hype before I invest the money in buying it, I have seen good review scores lately, so it probably is a game that lives up to what it promises.
2. I would be MORE likely to buy the game because of its Japanese influences. The last thing we want is a big part of the game being lost in translation because they tried to "americanize" it so it would appeal to a more broad audience. Removing Japanese influences in this game especially if it refers to the fashion scene in Japan would completely kill the game since America simply does not have a fashion scene like Japan does. It would seem silly to make a game based on the fashions of America but for Japan it makes more sense. I only listen to Japanese music so I would appreciate if they left the original songs in it, instead of creating an American soundtrack of songs that I have never even heard of nor would I like. I miss out on so much in games like Donkey Konga and other music based games because I wish they had the Japanese songs I know and like instead of the American crap they put in the game.
3. From the description it sounds like the game is semi-music based so I would compare it to things like Ouendan and its american version, Elite Beat Agents. I have played both Ouendan's from Japan. Other than that it sounds really unique and different, however that can be a good and bad thing. Some games are too unique and do not work out well, while in other games, uniqueness is a very good thing.

1. When I first saw this game, I got very excited. I'm generally only won over by the best and most original of RPG's, and I saw that potential here. The gameplay sounded very unique and challenging, which is always a plus from a genre that likes to stick to the straight and narrow. It also looked like something completely orignal and innovative, and those two together are very rarely found in a industry largely composed of trend followers. The design just makes me smile, with bright colors and dynamic characters and sets. The graffiti and clothing styles are just icing on the cake to make this experience feel truly urban.
2. The setting, characters, story, etc. only drew me in further. We rarely see games that actually try to represent real places, which is to me very disappointing. I have a feeling that after I play this game, I'll be wanting to visit Tokyo very soon just to see old familiar places from the game.
3. This title is certainly unique for the DS, and even for most offerings on other systems. The only game I can compare this to was the like-it-or-hate-it Marc Ecko's Getting Up. Despite its gameplay flaws, I felt like the game had an awesome sense of urban style that set it apart from other games. Plus, the fact that you got to live out the dream of becoming a famous graf artist was simply wonderful.

What is your first impression of this innovative title regarding gameplay, creativity, and design?
My first impression was that the gameplay sounded incredibly complicated. As a new DS owner, it could be pretty daunting.
This game's story, character, and design is heavily influenced by Japan's modern culture (food, fashion, music, etc). Would this affect your purchasing decision?
Not at all. Although I do think I would appreciate it (and games like Yakuza) more if I ever visit Japan for a significant amount of time.
Would you consider this title as unique and catchy compared to other titles currently offered for DS? If not, what other games would you compare this game with?
Absolutely. I think it is unique when you compare it to any other console. An RPG that isn't medieval or sci-fi is hard to come by (for that fact alone), let alone a game that forces you to think with two screens and independent button pressing and touch controls.
The art, by the way, looks fantastic.

1. The gameplay being split between the two screens looks like it could be a lot of fun, and the design has a very distinctive style that I like.
2. I would have normally said no, but after how great Persona 3 was with it's reliance on Japanese culture I think this game being influenced by it may sway me a little in it's direction.
3. I consider this game unique and catchy compared to games on any system, not just the DS.

This game's story, character, and design is heavily influenced by Japan's modern culture (food, fashion, music, etc). Would this affect your purchasing decision?
Yes and no. Yes in the fact that the urban and Japanese modern feel attracted me. But no in the fact that I would probably still get this if the Jap influence wasn't has predominant.

2. I might not connect with it as much because of that fact but it wouldn't dissuade me from buying it.

1. It seems like a game with potential. The two-screen gameplay at once is intriguing; I would probably need to actually play the game to see if I would enjoy the experience or find it too hectic.
2. This would not really affect my purchasing decision. On the plus side, it probably gives the game a distinct style. On the negative side, some of this may be lost in translation (either removing stylistic elements for the American audience, or too many obscure references to Shibuya that an American audience will never get).
3. I would consider this game fairly unique. The RPG genre tends to get stuck in the rut of high fantasy and pseudo-medieval settings. In that respect a game set in the modern day world is refreshing. That said, this is just a setting. The game might still stick to the same old RPG cliches: angsty teen hero, amnesia, evil technology vs. good nature, repetetive character design (gruff guy with heart of gold, self-absorbed jerk who learns to respect others, shy and quiet female lead who is always a healer, etc.) silent protagonist, mysterious ancient and advanced civilizations, etc.

What is your first impression of this innovative title regarding gameplay, creativity, and design?
I've been following this one for a while. The ideas sound like they either guarantee something new, innovative, and rewarding, or too convoluted to follow the story. The fact that this is a square-enix game also doesn't help as the thought of a FF game with more complex battle controls does not sound appealing.
This game's story, character, and design is heavily influenced by Japan's modern culture (food, fashion, music, etc). Would this affect your purchasing decision?
It would make me more likely to buy. I like it when the setting is something other than generic universe needs you to save it.
Would you consider this title as unique and catchy compared to other titles currently offered for DS? If not, what other games would you compare this game with?
I can't thing of anything close to this on the DS, or elsewhere. We'll have to wait and see on catchy.

It looked complicated at first but as I started to really look at unique gameplay I started to become more and more interested.
Well I do like games that have aspects of different cultures and parts of the world that I wouldn't usually get a chance to experience myself, but it is not an influencing factor when I purchase a game.
As I already mentioned I think this game does offer some unique gameplay for those that get to experience it.

1 i like japanese games more because of how artistic it is. gameplay matters a whole lot to me. if somehow the ideas don't connect. its b.s.
2 maybe. i've grown up with japanese culture since the days of sci-fi anime. maybe i'm more influenced in buying something because of who made it. but where it comes from is regarded too.
3 its unique to the name! but the dsis a little unique in itself. so more for the ds.

If i am not too late to enter:
The game looks original and adds a little touch of jet grind radio.
I can't say this would affect my opinion on the game, because if it looks good i will buy it regardless of what it is influenced by.
From what I see about this game it does look very unique. Though the overall look is a combination of several types of games, the overall premise seems to be unique.

2. This game's story, character, and design is heavily influenced by Japan's modern culture (food, fashion, music, etc). Would this affect your purchasing decision?
3. Would you consider this title as unique and catchy compared to other titles currently offered for DS? If not, what other games would you compare this game with?
1. The game looks incredibly difficult to control (in a pat-your-head, rub-your-belly sort of way)....but once you have a feel for it, probably pretty fun.
2. It would make me more likely to purchase, but only out of curiosity....and the chance to say "Shibouya" (my apologies if I've butchered the spelling).
3. I would compare it to some of the other "out there" Japanese-style games: Persona 3, and the Katamari franchise, maybe Owendan as well.

It strikes me as sort of a Jet Set Radio meets Kingdom Hearts, which is a good thing.
It would affect my purchasing decision, but not in a bad way. It actually intrigues me more to see aspects of other cultures, rather than just a local younger generation I may be outgrowing.
It definitely seems unique in style and substance, which is a great thing. The DS has too much same-ol same-ol and fresh ideas like this are welcome.

1. first impression is that the art in this game looks really cool, however I dont know if I'd rather be reading a comic book where the graphics look like this or playing a game.
2. Yeah, there could be a loss of some of the meaning for non-japanese users.
3. It looks very unique. I don't know what to compare it to without playing it.

1. I really like the art style. The two screen combat looks like it may be a bit complicated.
2. Yes it definitely will.
3. It seems unique for a ds title. I think the two screen combat looks unwieldy but could be fun. I especially like the art style.
On an aside I really hate how Square Enix has been charging $40 for ds game. I can't seem to justify a $40 non-import ds game purchase. It just feels too expensive.

1. Very interesting. Granted, it's a Nomura game, so the design is hit-or-miss, but the gameplay sounds rock solid, and it oozes creativity. It is an interesting title to read about, especially when it was first announced.
2. If I wasn't already planning to obtain this game, it would have affect my decision my making me want to have the game more. Japan is an interesting country, and experiencing a taste of its culture isn't a bad thing.
3. Given the battle system, it is definitely a more unique title than other games currently offered for the DS. The use of the touch screen is different than other games, and it just seems like everything works, from what I read.

1. It's a Japanophile's dream come true...which is perfect for me, haha. I also like the alternative take on the RPG structure, which is certainly nice to see.
2. Yes, but in a positive way, as I rather like Japanese culture. I can see some being turned off by it, but ultimately, my purchases consider whether the game is fun and enjoyable.
3. It's certainly one of the quirkier games for the DS, but there also is Elite Beat Agents and Phoenix Wright (among other games) that provide an alternative gaming experience on the DS.

1.) At first before even looking into the game I thought it was a pirates of the caribbean game but when I saw the cover and realized it wasn't I got what it meant. Basically I think it means whatever you do in the game affects the characters and storyline.
2.) Big time. I am way into Japanese culture. One day I would love to travel to Japen.
3.) I think it's unique, I've never heard of anything on a video game like this.

2. i think its neat that it is based in japan. its different from what i'm used to, so it'd be like exploring a new world, except not.
3. yes, its new. reminds me of a mix of elite beat agents and a rpg like children of mana. the ds should have more like this.

What is your first impression of this innovative title regarding gameplay, creativity, and design?
First impression is subjected by who gives the first impression. The control scheme seems daunting at first, but seems to be praised as responsive enough to be successful. The creative pin system is interesting, but the presentation is what sells the game. I didn't even know about the game mechanics, and the presentation made me want it even back when it was "It's a Wonderful World."
This game's story, character, and design is heavily influenced by Japan's modern culture (food, fashion, music, etc). Would this affect your purchasing decision? Not at all, though I am used to that style (Jrpgs, anime, friends, etc). The game is set in a modern enough setting that casual players could look at it and pretend it doesn't exist in reality, though that would both be a shame in ignoring reality and not really a shame, since Shibuya isn't exactly taught as a location like Tokyo.
Would you consider this title as unique and catchy compared to other titles currently offered for DS? If not, what other games would you compare this game with? The game stands out. There is no question about it. The comic like style, the necessity to utlize both screens at once, it strikes out as unique. The closest game in presentation would be Jump Ultimate Stars, but it's a relatively different genre.

1. What is your first impression of this innovative title regarding gameplay, creativity, and design?
Honestly, my first impression is obviously that Tetsua Nomura is behind this, and I'm thoroughly sick of that dude. Aside from that, though, it superficially reminds me, aesthetically, of Jet Grind Radio, which is nothing but a good thing. The game is especially reliant on the basic two-screen concept, in a way that a lot of DS games aren't these days.
2. No, not really. I'm no weeaboo.
3. Sure. I mean, it's an fashion-conscious RPG with rhythm-based combat on DS, ya know? So, of course.

1. I like the combat system, and the fact that there aren't really any random battles. It seems sort of new, but isn't going too far out of what SquareEnix has done in the past (think Kingdom Hearts Portable
2. The style of the game is very important. While I don't like some of the more cliche looking additions to the cast, I do like the overall vibe, and the real-life
3. Definitely one of the best new DS games out there. By best, I mean most involved. I was getting tired of these gimmicky games, and this one seems much more solid.

1. It's great to see Square Enix trying out a new IP, something that I think they haven't done enough of in recent years.
2. It's refreshing to see an RPG set in -- or at least inspired by -- a real world setting. Sort of makes me nostalgic for Parasite Eve in a sort of roundabout way.
3. Tetsuya Nomura's character design conjures some visual similarity to Kingdom Hearts, but I don't know of any DS game that has this look to it.

no, everyone that plays Japanese made game should know their origin and the pop cultures. This is same concept as why foreigner would buy GTA.3. 1. What is your first impression of this innovative title regarding gameplay, creativity, and design?
The first thing that jumps out at me is the art. The setting and art style are almost non-existant (save for Jet Grind Radio). Of course, it is Square-Enix, and I've been really bored of their games lately. Part of me expects that the game will be trite, but with all of the good press and rave reviews I am really wanting to try it.
2. This game's story, character, and design is heavily influenced by Japan's modern culture (food, fashion, music, etc). Would this affect your purchasing decision?
Not particularly. I doubt that a game's fictional aspect is a really effective way to learn about a culture. I'm much more interested in the gameplay mechanics. I mean, it's a Square game, I already know what the plot is.
3. Would you consider this title as unique and catchy compared to other titles currently offered for DS? If not, what other games would you compare this game with?
This title strikes me as being on par with the DS's goals of innovation, but it's hard to say without playing it. It sort of reminds me of Contact, though I doubt it plays anything like it.

1. I think the battle system of using 2 characters makes it have a lot more depth.
2. I like that it has that Japanese feel to it. I like American games as much as the next person but I need to change things up to keep it fresh.
3. It has some unique things going for it. The DS has so many different type of games I'm not sure how innovative this game really is now. But I do like that the old Square boys are making something new and not rehashing Final Fantasy whatever.

I actually had the pleasure of playing this mighty beast of a game, I borrowed it from a friend for 3 days and wow. This game is nothing like any game I've ever played.
1. At first it looks kind of weird and I honestly didn't think it would be any good, but then like an awesome tsunami it all hits you at once. It not only involves just battles, but wearing the right gear too. And, it does make a difference when wearing weak brands or #1 brands. When looking at the game piece by piece, it shows the detail put into it. It has the pins, the controls to the different pins, the clothes with different brands and attributes, the characters, the foods, and the ability to change what brands are popular. All of which creates this awesome game. The game is like a portal into an abyss and after it starts, you don't want it to stop.
2. Yes, it makes me very hesitant in giving it back to my friend.
3. This game is in its own league. There's just so much in it, the characters, the little phrases like "F everything" and the characters that just beg to be hated... if you play this game, you'll know who I'm talking about instantly.

1. I feel as though the game will turn out one of two ways, given the idea behind the game: it will either be very well pulled off, or will be mediocre at best. However, given the talent behind the games' development, I think it has a higher chance of turning out very well.
2. It would probably increase the chances of me buying it. I love all things Japan, so a game based around Japanese culture would be of pretty high interest to me.
3. This is definitely a more unique title than others on the market currently. It seems to use the DS stylus controls in a more effective and innovative manner than the majority of the games that have been released thus far.

1) When I first saw it, I was pretty excited. There isn't much game that really truly take advantage of the touchscreen, but for the games that tried to didn't do so well successfully. I feel that this game will help other developers change their mind.
2) Definitely. Japan's culture is different enough from the rest of the world, and while it may seem that a game so heavily based in Japanese culture might not do well with Westerners, I feel that the game opens up gamers to a whole new different world to explore.
3) I feel the game art design, story, and gameplay is unique enough on its own. Though if I had to compare something somewhat simliar, it'd have to be Ninja Gaiden due to the touch screen based gameplay mechanics.

1. Finally an RPG that isn't a Fantasy/Sci-Fi hybrid from Japan. I'm interested in it because it seems to be a fresh take on the genre with cool graphics along the lines of Jet Set Radio.
2. Absolutely. I'm interested in it without knowing much about the gameplay. It's the setting and interesting premise that caught my attention.

1. The character designs by Nomura-san is the first thing that caught my eye because it looks reminiscent of Kingdom Hearts.
2. The game's reliance on modern Japanese culture is actually what interests me the most about the game because that seems unique in comparison to other games. This is what distinguishes the game from other RPGs for me, and why I will definitely get this game at some point.
3. I would consider it unique and catchy for the reason listed above - that the game deals a lot with the culture of modern Japan. Before I knew that, I assumed it was just another generic RPG, but with the inclusion of the cultural aspects, it stands apart.

YAY SE. Square Enix usually comes up with the same formula for most of it's games, but lately they've surprised. I loved Final Fantasy XII and now I'm ready for this new inovative game.
Not really. Just the game itself.
Yeah. So far it's the only game that I would even consider buying that has two things going on at once. I'm proud of SE for finally thinking out of the box for the two screen combat.

It's about time that Square-Enix puts out something new and innovated since that is what the DS is made for.

1. The design looks very slick. A great display of 2D gameplay. As well I have heard a good bit of the audio from the game and it sounds good.
2. I think that the game being based on Japan culture only makes it that much more interesting.

1. My first impression of the gameplay is that it seems pretty complex and frenetic. The design and style makes me think of urban-inner city graffiti art. While the whole thing with a young boy waking up and not knowing what's going on has been done and is not very creative; hopefully, the gameplay and story will take it somewhere interesting.
2. While the Japanese aspect is interesting, it doesn't really affect my purchase. If after playing it I found that these references hindered the game in some way, then it might reflect in how I recommend the game to others.
3. Overall, it seems like it could be a new direction with the interesting gameplay; however, it seems to have some of the standard starting conventions with charcters.

1. My first impression was that it could be a mess, using both the buttons and touch screen all the time but the more I read the more sense it made. It sounds like a challenge for the developer to pull off but from what I've read it sounds like they succeeded.
2. The game's setting was what first made me interested in the game. The few other takes on modern Japan in games that made it to the west that I can remember were all based on crime, such as Shenmue and Yakuza. I'm curious to see what kind of crazy crap Square puts into Shibuya.
3. Yes, I certainly would. The other games that took advantage of the DS best were mostly not hardcore (Nintendogs, Ouendan, ect) and those that were more hardcore were all from existing IPs (Ninja Gaiden, Contra 4). The World Ends with You looks like a unique experience designed specifically for the DS. It seems like an appropriate way to make an RPG for a DS crazed Japan.

1. I really like the art design, in a way it reminds me of Jet Set Radio, one of my favorite Dreamcast games. The story doesn't sound that original given what little I know about it, but still seems to be something that could be interesting, given the rest of the game is engrossing.
2. If anything, it would make me want to buy the game more! I'm a fan of the Japanese culture, not exactly an otaku but I love anime, manga, and other forms of Japanese entertainment. As far as video games go, I play JRPGs almost exclusively.
3. I would have to say yes, as far as the whole package goes this game is very unique. The story might not be as interesting as the gameplay but that would not keep from enjoying the game. The art work alone speaks volumes about its uniqueness.

1. This game appears to make worthwhile use of both screens and, as such, the game play is fairly unique. It also has Japanese flair without the usual "been there, done that" qualities that can sometimes plague similar games.
2. I think it's definitely better for the game to be influenced by Japanese culture than American culture, so... yes?
3. The story is a little clichéd (enough with the amnesia, already!), but other than that, it seems relatively unique -- unique, at least, to the extent that I want to play it.

1. I've heard that the combat method is unique in that you use the stylus and face buttons simultaneously for each DS screen. It's an interesting control method that I look forward to trying. Games that utilize the touch screen in a smart way are few and far between, I'm hoping that this game is one of those gems.
2. Being somewhat of a Japanophile, this game does intrigue me. I've been a longtime consumer of Square (Enix) games and I'm excited that they are branching out further from the tried-and-true Final Fantasy series. Any insight into modern Japanese culture would be a cool addition to my DS library.
3. The storyline of this game reminds me of Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne for PS2. They're both set in Tokyo and are RPGs; the similarities probably end there. Considering how different this game is from others on the market, it's on my short list of games to buy.
