I think it's a great deal. The GC version of the game reflects the initial design (with Link as left-handed), but the Wii version mirrors EVERYTHING, making Link right-handed and mirroring all the environments.

I expect the GC version was produced in relatively limited quantities, and first-party games like this rarely drop in price even in normal circumstances. Even though I own and have played through the Wii version, I'm happy to add this to my collection for a cheap price.

This ticks me off, actually. I'm really pissed at Nintendo for the way they handled the Zelda release. No 16:9 on the Gamecube = LAME. And the sword controls on the Wii = LAME. I quit playing the Wii one because it just got old swinging my hand around the whole time, and you can't switch the controls! I wish you could swing by PUSHING A FRICKIN' BUTTON!!!

Ah well. Will pass on this... will wait for the Wii Collector's Edition with push-button sword-swinging. One can hope, can't one?

Do we really need 30 people all announcing the name of the game? I think we've got it now :D

Talk about false advertising. They claim it's going to be a "beloved fantasy RPG"...and they give us a game that's not even an RPG?

Something in the Final Fantasy series made the most sense, since obviously it probably is the most beloved RPG series, there's a ton of them they could have discounted, and the ad even had "Fantasy" in the description, and those descriptions do real obvious stuff like that half the time.

It is considered an RPG by many.

That's not an RPG!

wtf.. why a game cube game??

Twilight Princess Gamecube, 19.99

Goddammit. Zelda is not a RPG.

Amazon has something to argue with you about.

Ordered it w/free 2 day shipping. LOVE amazon prime! :D

GC version owns the Wii version btw.

I'd still like someone to explain to me why Zelda isn't an RPG.

The distinction is perhaps a fine one, but without some form of stats and leveling, it's not an RPG. Granted, games pretty similar to Zelda are action-RPGs (Final Fantasy Adventure comes to mind as an example), but as is Zelda is an adventure game (or "action adventure" for those who think only PC-style adventure games are adventure games).

Yeah, I have that issue with a lot of Wii and DS stuff. It's like they do these alternate controls just to justify the weird input hardware or something. Everyone I've talked to says the 'Cube version is better-except the lack of 16:9 is incredibly lame and feels arbitrary just to push people to the Wii version.

They should have had at least the option for more standard controls in this Zelda. I might have liked it better (although I really didn't like it compared to Wind Waker).

I probably would if I still had my controllers and memory cards (VERY stupid of me to get rid of them, but oh well :( ) Everyone I've talked to about it tells me the 'Cube version is superior. Should have given you the option to use the Classic Controller.

Whats the difference between the Wii versions and GC version?
Is only the controls different? If it is then I may just buy the GC version.

From Wikipedia:

Shigeru Miyamoto had said in an interview that the only differences between the GameCube and Wii versions of the Twilight Princess are technical[40] (as described above). The Wii version also displays in a 16:9 (anamorphic widescreen mode; see Wii) format in 480p, where the GameCube version plays only in 4:3.[41] 480p is possible on early DOL-001 models of the GameCube, using the component-cable or if the GameCube version is played on the Wii console.

In the Wii version of Twilight Princess, Link is right-handed, despite his normal left-handed preference. Miyamoto noticed that most play-testers preferred wielding their "swords" right-handed, but at that point, all maps, bosses and models had already been designed with a left-handed stance in mind. The simplest solution was to invert the entire game horizontally. In the GameCube version, Link remains left-handed, and the maps and player guides for the two versions are mirror versions of each other.[42] Anything in the game referring to east/west or left/right is changed accordingly between the two versions, with only two exceptions: the Wii version's sun rises in the west and sets in the east at dusk, and its characters shake hands left-handed.

Whats the difference between the Wii versions and GC version?
Is only the controls different? If it is then I may just buy the GC version.

This is from the Gamespot review:

Graphically, the GameCube version is roughly identical to the Wii release. The main difference comes from a lack of 16:9 widescreen support, resulting in many of the story sequences being letterboxed when viewed in 4:3. However, the game does have 480p support. If you're properly equipped with a GameCube component cable and a TV capable of handling the higher resolution, you'll get a slightly cleaner image. The combat controls are more conventional on the GameCube, since you won't be shaking the controller around to attack (though if you've already played the Wii version, expect to feel dumb when you start to shake your WaveBird and wonder why nothing's happening), but the Wii controls actually end up feeling more precise in a direct comparison. It's easier and faster to aim your arrows, boomerang, or other targeted items using the Wii Remote. It's easier to move the camera around with the Wii Remote, too. While the GameCube controller is more precise when it comes to swinging your sword, the easier aiming and faster access to the spin attack make the Wii version's combat controls superior, even though they have a few issues of their own.

Also, in what has to be the weirdest change, the entire GameCube game is a mirror image of the Wii version. Actually, it's probably the other way around--Nintendo flipped the Wii version so that Link would be holding his sword in his right hand, which is the hand you're supposed to use to hold the Wii Remote. Link's a lefty on the GameCube, and the entire world is flipped around, as well. If you've played the Wii version, that'll trip you up a bit, but considering that the most likely candidate for the GameCube version of the game is someone that didn't get a Wii, this isn't a problem in any way. You can't go wrong with either version of the game, but if you're still trying to decide, the Wii version is just a bit better.

This. Wii controls aren't worth $15 more. <_< They aren't worth more, peroid. While the controls do help with stuff like arrow shooting, you won't be doing more arrow shooting than sword figthing. And this person's opinion of the sword controls are that they are boring. Not fun.

Awesome, well I just got my copy, and when it comes I'm going to craigslist it since it goes for high dollar in my area. Not even worth using it for the Gamestop two games and pay 9.99 for Mario Kart..this game easily can get more than 20 for. I might just keep it and find absolutely everything in the game, instead of last time just wondering around and making it to the end, which was awesome..Midna was/is really beautiful.

Yay, I got 1 too! I'm always shocked to see stores still trying to sell Gamecube games for their original release price. Now if I can just find a new copy of Wind Waker for less than $50...

Son of a bitch why isn't this the Wii version? I sold mine a long time ago and now want it back for $20! :)

Fantastic deal though. It looks like ass on Wii widescreen but other than that, it's actually better than the Wii version IMO.

Bought.

Thought I missed it, only 19% have been claimed. It'll be nice to play this in its original form, though it'll be weird I'm sure.

I just got Zelda and bought a giant bag of Gardetto's to get Free Shipping. They were going to charge me $17.00 shipping for a $6.19 bag of Gardetto's before the discount. Thank god for the Free Shipping.

LOL at all the failures in this topic.

The Gamecube version is the definitive version. Also, it's the greatest installment in the Zelda series thus far.

Agreed. Though in fairness I never played the Wii version so my view's a bit tainted. I just feel TP was meant for the Gamecube and ultimately the Wii version is at best a forced port -- though props to Ninty for adding a host of Wii functions into it.

But we all know Link is left-handed ;-)

I decided not to buy and now I'm regretting. I do have a backlog, but this game probably isn't going to go for any less, even used, and I do want to play it eventually. Oh well.

So playing the GC version on my Wii on my Widescreen would look crap?
It won't support widescreen so I'll be basically playing on something like a 24 inch instead of 32 inch?

My widescreen is 32 inch btw

It'll look exactly the same as the Wii version, other than the lack of widescreen. You've played other non-widescreen progressive scan games, right? I'll look exactly like those.

Zelda is now 25.99 on amazon. A bit more than goldbox but still cheaper than anywhere else.

Thanks, you guys encouraged me to buy it after I originally laughed at the deal.

I have a Wii, and I was very disappointed in the deal, thinking the Wii version was better (by default). My backlog stretches > 100 games, but I do intend to play this at some point. I think it's retarded that they mirrored the game for Wii (ruining coherence w/ prior Zelda games, destroying original aesthetic feel, etc), and that the wii-mote isn't 100% necessary to play. Definitive version in this case does appear to go to Gamecube.

I have an absolute NO-FORCED-PORT policy for Wii games. All Wii games I buy must not be ports if they use the wii-mote. Yes, that means Okami, MLB Power Pros, Lego Star Wars, and in this case, Zelda:TP.

Original Wii games only, thx.

Yeah, still sounds like a great deal, if you can stomach having missed it even cheaper :)

I might actually bite if they still sold controllers and memory cards-especially if they still had Luigi's Mansion. I really shouldn't have sold my Gamecube stuff :(

Personally I don't want the Wii's features used unless they add something to the game, and so far the vast majority of the time I don't like them (ditto for the DS). I really like games that are brave enough to just use the classic controller or offer it as an option (it's a nice pad! I probably prefer it to the 360's pad).

I did think Super Mario Galaxy did a great job with it. Basically it wasn't necessary, but the minimal things it did (collecting stars or whatever it is) actually controlled well and didn't need super precision or anything. It wouldn't have worked though if Galaxy didn't have one of the most phenomenal auto-cameras anyone's ever done (maybe the very best in a game that doesn't use fixed perspectives).

What I'd like to see is the hardware actually get pushed. I like that High Voltage developer talking about that. It's like yeah it's low end compared to a Playstation 3, but most Wii games come off looking like it's worse than the Playstation 2 and Gamecube, which is pathetic since it's actually a solid piece of hardware.

Very impressed with Amazon. Ordered shipped out today through USPS and say I should get it by the 22nd. Not bad at all for the low price.

This is the first new GameCube I've ever bought. Picked up a used Gamecube through eBay for ~$30 in September (with a controller, 2 mem cards). Bought a few used games (SSBM, MP1) and was waiting for TP to come down to $20. So glad Amazon decided to make it a Lightning deal.
