Final Fantasy makes the most sense, but as someone else already mentioned, most all FF games are cheap already. Unless of course it's Crisis Core, but that seems a little too "new" to be one of the "most beloved of all time."

Zelda...is NOT...a RPG... It's an adventure game, at best. There is NOTHING RPG-like about it. As for the deal, I was thinking Final Fantasy for the PSP, but that's probably just me. Or hell, maybe even one of the PS1 Final Fantasies (not VII).

Most people still consider Zelda an RPG, even though it never had turn-based gameplay, etc. I'm definitely a FF fan over Zelda but I've always considered it an RPG myself. That was one of the big debates for years, which RPG is better: Zelda of FF?
Why are you guys getting so upset that Zelda IS considered by most an RPG? By todays standards it's not an RPG at all but the franchise is still recognized as RPG.
I'm guessing FF1 or FF2 for PSP, LoZ:TP is too new to fit the description, and the only other RPGs that fit it are out of print.

How blind. "Nothing RPG-like" about it? If you're going to go down that road, Final Fantasy is not an RPG as there is nothing RPG-like about Final Fantasy.
RPGs have multiple participants that assume the roles of fictional characters and collaboratively create or follow stories. Participants determine the actions of their characters based on their characterization, and the actions succeed or fail according to a formal system of rules and guidelines. Within the rules, players can improvise freely; their choices shape the direction and outcome of the games. Role Playing games have no winners as the purpose of the game is to have fun playing it.
Ewps, I see what I did there.

Nothing RPG like about it? Add an experience system and it's practically a textbook example of an action RPG.
Arguments over genres always amuse me. You can't describe the entire industry in a couple of categories, people. Quit trying to pigeonhole stuff with labels and accept that sometimes games don't fit neatly under one genre description.

I can't believe that after 3 pages of thread everyone is still debating whether Zelda is a RPG or not. Zelda is an action RPG. It's not part of the core style of RPGs, but a close cousin. Just like a strategy RPG or a MMO RPG isn't a core RPG, but still considered part of the genre.

That's a good idea-Final Fantasy Anniversary Edition would make perfect sense for this, since it certainly qualifies for the label, and is older.
I already own it though.
If that is what it is, it's probably worth it if you're a fan. It doesn't REALLY take as much advantage of the storage space as it could, but it's still nice. They've made it a LOT easier than the original in a few ways, which makes a play through fairly fast (relatively speaking, of course).
With a line like that, I really can't see it being anything other than a game in some super well known series. It would almost HAVE to be Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Diablo, maybe Oblivion, etc...but Final Fantasy seems the most likely, since it fits that label better than anything.
I could see it being a spin off though. I guess I'll bite on Crisis Core if it's discounted enough...

It's an adventure game (or arguably, "action-adventure"). An action RPG is like Diablo, or Oblivion, or Dungeon Siege or even the Mana games or whatever. It's obviously a related genre, but not technically the same.

There is no right or wrong answer for the Zelda discussion.
Depending on your definition of RPG, Any video game where you assume the role of one or more characters could be considered a RPG. Other people may not classify a video game as an RPG unless you completely shape the character and its dialogue (I could be wrong but I am not aware of a video game that allows the user to write their own dialogue). Some would say a RPG has turn based combat only, so games like WOW or Diablo or FFXII are not RPGs.
I have not played a Zelda game since Legend of Zelda and Adventure of Link on the NES. Personally I would classify those games as RPGs, since you have to interact with other characters for story progression, they take place in an alternate time/reality/place, you can swap out weapons, dialogue is displayed on screen, and the action is there to tell a story.

Okay, forget it, its an RPG, now I'll just pass the subject because you win. Now back to the real subject.
I personally hope its Final Fantasy VII my friends been looking for it for a long while, but somehow I dout it.
It could definitely be something like that. I'm assuming that by FF7 you mean Crisis Core? (If not, my mistake.) Amazon has done deals on just released games in the past.
I really wasn't trying to win anything - I was trying to show people that they do not need to be so static in their views. =)

I can't believe we have people on here claiming Zelda is an RPG...and now someone even claiming the same for SM Galaxy.
By the "any game you take over the role of a character" definition basically EVERY GAME EVER MADE would be an RPG.
It's had a more specific meaning since before there were any computer based RPGs.

Depends on your definition. Some people insist "adventure" is only narrowly defined by the PC-style adventure genre, but adventure's been used to describe games like Zelda, Metroid, etc. going back at least to the mid-80s, and it certainly fits. The use of "adventure" to describe only PC-style adventure games might predate that though, I'm not sure.
But for those who don't like that, that's why I but the "action-adventure" thing :) Personally I think "adventure" fits Zelda better though, as "action-adventure" to me conotates an action game that's got a bit more exploration or something. It all kind of blurs together though.

Lol thats pretty ignorant. Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fantasy 1&2, and Crisis core for psp are all perfect canidates.
My money is just on tactics with the wording though. Crisis Core isnt the most beloved one of all, its just based on a popular one. FF1 is a possibility though as well. It was HUGE and fans loved it.

I don't understand why they don't do another reprint of FF7. It would print money for SquareEnix. The only ones who would lose out would be the resellers.
For that matter - anything that seems to be 'rare' or overpriced on eBay or Amazon's marketplace could be reprinted. Even if it was in small quantities to test - the cost can't be that high. They could even be aggressively priced to guarantee sales versus what the resellers have.

Seriously... It would literally take the Square team five minutes to add anti-aliasing to the game and release it for the PS2. They could label it "enhanced" and make a killing on it.
At $20, I'm betting it would sell 5 million+ copies easily.

You're missing out if you haven't played Zelda 3. Also, your Funcoland story is hysterical. I've been using "You're banned from all Funcolands!" for my away message.

All it boils down to is some idiots quibbling over whether a game can be an RPG without experience points or a party.

Final Fantasy III for the DS? Gamestop just dropped the price to $20, so I don't see why Amazon couldn't do the same.
In fact, I'm thinking that Final Fantasy III is the most likely choice. It's going on a year old, it sold like mad (in Japan, at least), and Final Fantasy seems like the most obvious choice for the clue they've got up now.
This won't end well...

I never did like the name "role-playing." Isn't that what you're doing in almost... ALL games? When I play Mario, I'm playing the role of Mario. When I'm Sonic, I'm playing the role of Sonic. When I'm Master Chief, I'm playing the role of Master Chief. Although, "role-playing" originally referred to D&D-style games, so I guess I understand how RPG's are RPG's with their leveling, experience points, hit points, etc.
Anywho, back on topic, I kind of hope it's Twilight Princess... for the GameCube! I'd like it to complete my GameCube collection. I haven't seen a deal for it yet. And I might end up bringing my GameCube to school since I don't have reason to leave it in storage at home, so I wouldn't mind playing TP again.

Nowhere did Amazon say "beloved by RPG fans."
Also, what's with this "Zelda isn't beloved by RPG fans" crap that some of you keep spouting? Given that the Zelda games are some of the most consistent titles in gaming in terms of sales and ratings, either you don't understand what "beloved" means or "RPG fans" means that you're not considering any game without the cliché storyline, party system, and experience points RPGs...which is just plain stupid.

Something from Atlus since they have been doing deals with them this week it seems. I just can't think of a title from Atlus that would fit the description.

I don't know, I'm kind of enjoying it, or should I say not minding it as much. It does get insanely irritating trying to find an item in the heat of battle.
