Kim's saying the DRM has recently been fixed so you can now just redownload purchased games on your new hardware and at that point they can be used offline just like on your old hardware.
Very cool if correct.
Now get off your ass Nintendo and implement something similar! (Unfortunately for me I think Nintendo's the only company with online content I want to buy so far...although the Bionic Commando remake is coming soon :) )
EDIT: Updated it because it sounds like they didn't fix it, at least not completely.

When I get home I'm gonna try this. Has anyone had success with it?

Has anyone verified this? Because I've got some downloading to do if so.

Hmm...I wonder what that "license restoration will only work on a console returned by Microsoft" bit means?
Thanks for the link Viva!
I'm going to change the thread title in case this doesn't really fix the problem.

actually this was stated kind of far back. at least a month. i tried it a couple weeks ago and it DID work for Geometry Wars Retro Evolved. it DIDN'T work for Super Puzzle Fighter II HD or Pac Man Championship Edition.
so it works in some cases and doesn't work in other cases which is why it has that last line talking about contacting support if it doesnt work.

I have 2 Live Arcade games this affected (Uno and Bankshot Billiards) and I will try this when I get home tonight.

Yeah I started a thread a month or 2 ago because I saw the info on the xbox.com website. It didn't work for me so I opened a ticket with MS. They called today about my ticket so I guess I need to call them back to see what's up.

I just tried this with Geometry Wars and it didn't seem to do anything....I really do wish they'd fix it though.

I've mentioned this in previous threads. I've also mentioned that it's complete crap. I just got a (new) replacement console the other week and it didn't work.

They have been doing this for a while, I had my console replaced last November and was able to redownload the games and play offline using this method.

Playing offline is not the issue. Playing with a different gamertag is.

Didn't work for me. I've not worried about it before since it was just 2 games but if my 360 breaks a second time then I'm definately going to get this fixed somehow.

Okay, so it's working for some people and not for others. Does it work offline on the new console if you use your original gamertag? Maybe that's the issue?
For myself personally that would be okay because I don't care about the gamertag or points or any of that, but I can see how that would still stink for a lot of people.

we'll see how this works on consoles exchanged at retailers, im guessing it doesnt work at all.
if it did, id be MUCH happier and id buy a lot more dlc.

Playing offline IS part of the issue. Before I re-downloaded I could not play offline even with the original gamertag. Afterwards though, I can play offline with my gamertag or any other that is on my 360.

I don't think it will work either in that case, as far as I know this works on consoles exchanged through MS during a warranty swap. When I was on the phone in November they told me that when I got the new console to re-download from the download history because they would transfer the DRM to the new console.

My friend tried this last night on his games and none of them would work offline under his own gamertag.

yea, i tried about 6 games and none of them worked. i need to get off my lazy ass and fax them the warranty exchange receipt.

i guess the reason why it didn't work for all games for me was because of the fact that i had been purchasing games using 2 different consoles =P

Worked for me for the most part. I've gone through two consoles. The games I d/l'd on my first console did not work, while my second and most recently RRoD console did. Maybe that plays a factor. Also, are you guys downloading it from "Account Management --> Download History"? Re-downloading from the Marketplace did not work for me.

Same for me , they let me have my Poker Smash and all of my free stuff , but the majority of my content was purchased with my launch unit .
Oh well , I guess I have to call .
