If it's any consolation , I never drank until I was legal to do so. I've had many friends tell me I must be lying. "Everybody drinks before they're 21" , not me.8-)

idk man, i just dont see the point of drinking. if i wanna relax and feel good i can just call up my gf, play sum games, or watch anime. ive had many chances to drink vocka, jack daniels, smirnoff, Jäger bombs, corona, etc but i just didnt feel the need to.

Not doubtful.
I have been drinking and tasting wines since I was 12.
I have been to more wineries in europe then I care to talk about.
I stayed the summer in France one year at a winery and helped take care of the grapes.
I have taken plenty of wine making classes, and I have produced my own wine before.

Therefore, I can assume that I know more about Wine then 95% of the American Public, and probably you also.

idk man, i just dont see the point of drinking. if i wanna relax and feel good i can just call up my gf, play sum games, or watch anime. ive had many chances to drink vocka, jack daniels, smirnoff, Jäger bombs, corona, etc but i just didnt feel the need to.

Its all about relaxing, you get a different relaxing from calling your GF, playing a game, or watching anime.
One relaxes you, and depresses your nervous system, while the other ones are made to excite your nervous system.

I know what your saying. That's partly why I never bothered trying to drink before 21 , never was really interested. I don't go crazy drinking , just usually a drink at meals (dinner usually) and maybe a mixed drink of some kind during the day , mainly on days off. I can always go for some vodka/smirnoff though , rum is good too. Now I've got a craving for a screwdriver.

Wine really depends on what kind of food you are eating with it.

You dont want to be drinking this kind of wine with some janky flank steak.
You are going to want a nice Black Angus Steak to really bring out the full body of the wine.
Fixed.
I don't know why'd you bring Bordeaux to Black Angus... =)

I don't drink a lot because I normally can't stand the taste. But I do like a few things... vodka + cranberry, Irish Car Bombs, anything Bailey's, some calpico + shochu...

As usual the haters don't know what they're talking about. Arcana Heart is a great game.
Now you're pushing it.
I can understand how just maybe... MAYBE it could be a decent game.
But to call it great is just impossible!

It's slow as hell and mostly won on time or at the last second. I don't think you could get any more boring than that.

Sorry, but if that's the case you're playing it wrong. The game is about combos. If you're timing out in all your rounds you need to learn how to actually play the game.

Also I'm far from the only person who thinks it's a great game: http://insomnia.ac/reviews/custom/arcanaheart/

I'm primarily interested in the game due to it's source material and it's seemingly more casual friendly design. Plus it's not like the game has been getting bad scores either , it currently has an 80 on metacritic , not that metacritic is the be all end all for this kinda thing.

I don't get the Arcana Heart hate either. I will likely get railed by teh FT regulars, but IMO the arcana system is highly creative, and can be as complex as you'd like it to be. Sure, some of the game features seem to be rip-offs of other more popular games like MB and HnK, but Arcana tweeks them enough to make 'em their own, not to mention the game was probably made on half the budget of some of those titles.

Seeing skilled players compete is pretty cool with the characters flying around and such.

I don't know any other game where you have to learn complex combos to not time out. It's an arcade game, I only got a few minutes to get on the fun part of the learning curve. If it doesn't do that, it's terrible.

I used to go to an import-friendly arcade, and they got Arcana Heart pretty soon after it came out. The most people I'd see play that is a couple of chicks who would giggle and mash buttons and time out and then quit.
My friend and I played it because the internetz said it was good, but it was just so slow that I think we left before we finished our match.

Another of my friends, a huge GG fan, said he was watching Tougeki videos of Arcana Heart and he described the game as "long 30-hit combos that do almost no damage."

Some people might like it. They might like having to go on the internet and find combos and videos and practice them at home JUST to even win a match on KO. I don't. =)

Whoever mentioned Godot's theme, you all rock.

I'm gonna play some more Final Fantasy IX today. I'm really on the fence about getting Rondo of Swords, but since there's really not much coming to the DS soon that I want to play, I think I may go ahead and grab it while I can. I'm thinking I'll trade in Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword for it.

The next DS game coming out that I'm slightly interested in Summon Night Twin Age. Maybe Drone Tactics, but I haven't seen too much of it yet. But definatly on my list to get is Super Dodgeball Brawlers coming the end of May. I used to love the NES game, and the DS version looks so awesome. I really wish they would bring the Neo Geo Super Dodgeball to the VC.

And as for those alcoholic drinks, I'm not much of a beer or wine drinker myself, but I do know a bit about wine. I worked as a wine stewart for about a year-and-a-half, and in that time I learned a lot and went to several wine-tasting shows. It was a fun experience, and while the pay sucked, I got freebies all the time from the vendors. But as for beer, I agree with the old joke: "What does American beer and making love in a canoe both have in common?" They're both fucking close to water!

But if I want something with alcohol to relax, I most often turn to bacardi rum and coke (preferably coke with sugar and not corn sweetener). I also love to sip some really good tequila repesado, like Cazadores. Mmmm. That's good stuff.

Though I'd ask you the same as I did TMK as to whether you've had any good beers or just the standard mass produced American crap that tastes like ass. It's hard to write off beer with out having some good micro brews or imports.I tried a few sips a long time ago and found them all disgusting. Can't remember all the brands I tried, but I know Bud was one. It was a small sip, that's all.

But I don't really care about drinking in general, since I have a lot of hate/disliking for alcohol. I personally just don't see the point in drinking in the first place, and I'm probably one of those people who would push a ban on it. I just don't like any alcohol.

idk man, i just dont see the point of drinking. if i wanna relax and feel good i can just call up my gf, play sum games, or watch anime. ive had many chances to drink vocka, jack daniels, smirnoff, Jäger bombs, corona, etc but i just didnt feel the need to.Please, stay out of drinking, it's not worth it. There are better things to do besides drinking, such as playing games, watching anime, etc, which is all clean fun. :D Getting wasted, being around drunks with the nasty smell of alcohol around = not fun.

I've said it before, I still never been to a bar in my life and probably never will go to one. Many friends told me they'd buy me a drink if I went, but I said no.

As usual the haters don't know what they're talking about. Arcana Heart is a great game. StarKnight knows I'm telling the truth.I really want to get Arcana Heart, but I have too many games already (I barely played much of Mana Khemia so far). :-(

I may eventually get it, since my GS has plenty of copies in.

Haven't decided what I will play today, but I'm leaning towards more Wipeout Pulse.

I also just changed my sig/avatar to The World Ends With You. I won't be getting the game until Summer most likely, but I can't wait to play it. :D

I'll just through this out, I wonder what would be more shocking to CAG members, Mana Knight getting drunk (or I could say even going to a bar and having a drink), or Mana Knight actually having a girlfriend.

I personally just don't see the point in drinking in the first place, and I'm probably one of those people who would push a ban on it. I just don't like any alcohol.

 Not wanting to drink yourself is fine. Being supportive of taking the right from others is just lame. I'm not going to come on here and bash you for buying hundreds of games you'll ever play and what other odd habits you have, so you should learn to not be so judgemental yourself.

As for the point of drinking, for me it's mainly just my love of beer. I love the taste, I love trying different takes on my favorite styles. It's also a nice way to relax at the end of a long day. I see less point in getting drunk, having a hangover etc. So I seldom have more than 1-3 beers at any given time.

Getting wasted, being around drunks with the nasty smell of alcohol around = not fun.

I drink often and seldom get drunk much less wasted. And I seldom hang around drunks. Nor have I encountered back alcohol smells since the days of dirty undergrad hous parties in college.

I've said it before, I still never been to a bar in my life and probably never will go to one. Many friends told me they'd buy me a drink if I went, but I said no.

So you're writing off and knocking somethign that you've never even done. Bars are great if you find a good one. I hate clubs, or dirty smoke filled bars. But it's a great evening to find a nice hole in the wall bar with a great selection of microbrews and imports and good food where you can just sit and enjoy and talk with your friends.

A fine beverage is a good pleasure. Problem is beer doesn't fit under that category.

A good beer is the finest beverage in the world IMO. But your entitled to your opinion. Just like I'm entitled to say that Koei games and Anime suck hairy donkey balls. ;)

So any recommendations as to a good place to start? Also , what is the difference between all the different varieties of Sam Adams , I've been curious about all the "seasonal" variaties but never gave any of them a shot.

Well the different varities of Sam Adams are mainly different types of beer. The Winter Lager is a lager like the original, but brewed with different spices. The white ale is a belgian style white ale, very citrusy. The Summer ale is a wheat beer with lemon zest and grains of paradise (makes it peppery). The Octoberfest is in the german Marzen style of lagers. They also make a ton of other styles (22 total I think)--such as Cherry Wheat, Double Bock (a stronger style ale), Cream Stout (maybe their best, hints of chocolate and coffee), a Hefeweissen (a bavarian style unfilted wheat beer) and so on.

As for where to start, there's no way to tell what types you'll like best, so here are just several of my favorites (from my beer nerd spreadsheet of rating me and my buddy keep).

Some are easy to find, some will be hard depending on where you live. I found all these in the DC area--in comparison I couldn't find a lot of them at my parents as there state has a law that all beers must be under 6% alcohol and many of these are above that. I'd reccomend looking for the microbrews first, they tend to be easier to find and cheaper than the imports.

Domestics (mostly microbrews)

Alagash Dubbel Ale
Rogue Dead Guy Ale
Rouge Shakespear Stout
Old Rasputin Imperial Stout (North Coast Brewing Co.)
Ten Fidy Imperial Stout (Oskar Blues Brewing)
Stone Imperial Russian Stout
Stone Ruination IPA
Stone IPA
Stone Pale Ale
Stone Arrogant Bastard Ale
Stone Double Bastard Ale
Stone Smoked Porter
Stone Old Guardian Barley Wine Style Ale
Southern Tier Imperial Choklat Stout
Southern Tier Imperial Oatmeal Stout
Southern Tier Back Burner Imperial Barley Wine Style Ale
Sierra Nevada Anniversary Ale (season, the regular pale ale is good as well)
Troegs Nugget Nectar
Troegs Hopback Amber

Imports

Belgium
Delerium Nocturnum
Delerium Tremens
Corsendonk Abbey Brown Ale
Mc Chouffe Artisan Beligian Brown Ale
Cuvee de Noel Belgian Special Ale (this was seasonal around x-mas)
Podge Imperial Stout

England/UK

Young's Outmeal Stout
Young's Double Chocolate Stout
Very Bad Elf Ale (Ridgeway Brewing)
Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout
Samuel Smth's Nut Brown Ale
Samuel Smith's Imperial Stout
Samuel Smith's Taddy Porter
Belhaven Wee Heavy (Scotland)
St Peter's Old Style Porter
St Peter's India Pale Ale
St Peter's Cream Stout

So basically you don't like the game because you didn't bother to learn how to play it. If you don't like how it plays, that's fine. But that doesn't make a game garbage. A LOT of people like it, so it must be doing something right. In fact the only real hate for the game I see is coming from people here.

Oh, and it was me who mentioned Godot's theme because Godot is awesome!
First of all, let me preface this by saying that the only people who have ever shown hate for this game here is Chac and me. It's amazing how loud we are. Next, I'm calling it garbage as my opinion, just as TMK calls drinking a waste of time, just as so many people call FF7 garbage and overrated.

No, I didn't "learn to play" it. Do I really have to look up undocumented combos and juggles and so forth JUST to KO someone, just to have fun? It's just terrible game design. It's not like I wasn't following the rules or anything; it ain't like say, chess, where you can set the board up wrong and use illegal moves. I did everything within the game and learned the basics and it wasn't rewarding.

I don't know half the things in the tuning menu of GT4 (and hence, I "didn't learn how to play") but I enjoyed the game without it. Most games should be like that.

Am I too old? I'm 25.

And I bought Izuna today. RIGHT JEKKI!?

Well I'm 23, and I get people that think I'm 28 , and people that think I'm 16. Does that count for anything?

I've had Izuna for awhile but haven't even touched it yet.

We should play Rock Band sometime, munch. And GGT at large! To Rock Band! Sometime!

Still too cheap to plop down the money for Rock Band. But it works out since I was gonna get it for the PS3 and I don't even have one yet , so I get to save my money a little longer , yah.:)

Well the different varities of Sam Adams are mainly different types of beer. The Winter Lager is a lager like the original, but brewed with different spices. The white ale is a belgian style white ale, very citrusy. The Summer ale is a wheat beer with lemon zest and grains of paradise (makes it peppery). The Octoberfest is in the german Marzen style of lagers. They also make a ton of other styles (22 total I think)--such as Cherry Wheat, Double Bock (a stronger style ale), Cream Stout (maybe their best, hints of chocolate and coffee), a Hefeweissen (a bavarian style unfilted wheat beer) and so on.

As for where to start, there's no way to tell what types you'll like best, so here are just several of my favorites (from my beer nerd spreadsheet of rating me and my buddy keep).

Some are easy to find, some will be hard depending on where you live. I found all these in the DC area--in comparison I couldn't find a lot of them at my parents as there state has a law that all beers must be under 6% alcohol and many of these are above that. I'd reccomend looking for the microbrews first, they tend to be easier to find and cheaper than the imports.

Domestics (mostly microbrews)

Alagash Dubbel Ale
Rogue Dead Guy Ale
Rouge Shakespear Stout
Old Rasputin Imperial Stout (North Coast Brewing Co.)
Ten Fidy Imperial Stout (Oskar Blues Brewing)
Stone Imperial Russian Stout
Stone Ruination IPA
Stone IPA
Stone Pale Ale
Stone Arrogant Bastard Ale
Stone Double Bastard Ale
Stone Smoked Porter
Stone Old Guardian Barley Wine Style Ale
Southern Tier Imperial Choklat Stout
Southern Tier Imperial Oatmeal Stout
Southern Tier Back Burner Imperial Barley Wine Style Ale
Sierra Nevada Anniversary Ale (season, the regular pale ale is good as well)
Troegs Nugget Nectar
Troegs Hopback Amber

Imports

Belgium
Delerium Nocturnum
Delerium Tremens
Corsendonk Abbey Brown Ale
Mc Chouffe Artisan Beligian Brown Ale
Cuvee de Noel Belgian Special Ale (this was seasonal around x-mas)
Podge Imperial Stout

England/UK

Young's Outmeal Stout
Young's Double Chocolate Stout
Very Bad Elf Ale (Ridgeway Brewing)
Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout
Samuel Smth's Nut Brown Ale
Samuel Smith's Imperial Stout
Samuel Smith's Taddy Porter
Belhaven Wee Heavy (Scotland)
St Peter's Old Style Porter
St Peter's India Pale Ale
St Peter's Cream Stout

Finally, for more info (i.e. to look up reviews of all of these, top ten lists etc.) these two sites are great resources.

The Nintendo Fan Network rolled out at the Seattle Mariners Safeco Field during the 2007 season, giving DS-toting fans access to a bunch of MLB stats and in-game progress reports for a small fee. Today Nintendo announced that the service is going to be free at home games this year. Gamers who bring their DS with them to Safeco will be able to wirelessly log into the Nintendo Fan Network. Features include access to player statistics, scores from other MLB games in progress, current team standings, chat with other fans and the ability to compete in trivia and other mini games. Additionally, fans can watch the in-stadium live broadcast video and use the Nintendo DS touch screen to order ballpark food and beverages delivered right to their seats.
Damn, I wish Nintendo would buy the Braves and make this happen here in Atlanta. I just picked up tickets for next Sunday's game vs. Cincinatti and that would be such an awesome feature just to order beer from my DS.

Yeah, some of the Sam Adams are very good. I really like the Cream Stout, Summer Ale and Octoberfest.

Sam Adams does good beer, they're the only bigger domestic brewer that I'll drink. Regular Sam Adams is my fall back in restaurants with crappy beer selections as they usually have it.

I won't drink any Bud, Miller, Coors etc. crap and just opt for soda or water if that's all they have. :D

I am going to sell Phantom Hourglass.

I just can't get into it.

Its so bland.

I forced myself to finish it, but took me 6 weeks or so to slog through it.

It was indeed bland. Boring characters, boring linear dungeons. Boring sailing. Boring combat (to simplified vs. the 3D games).

Having to go through the Ocean King temple 5 or 6 times was absurd as well. And I didn't like the touch controls much. They weren't awful, but the whole time I would have preferred traditional controls.

Same here, The controls were ok( I only had trouble rolling and doing the spin attack). But with the combination of sailing(It was slightly better then in WW... but it's still sailing...) and the Ocean Temple killed the game for me. After playing it tho, I was glad I did not. Maybe if I can find it for $10 I might try it again, but I doubt I would spend more than that on it.

Damn, Newegg.com has pissed me off. I ordered 2 sticks of RAM from them for my girlfriend's computer. Got the UPS shipment today. Opened it up. Only 1 stick of RAM. I checked the online order and discovered that for whatever stupid reason they shipped them seperatly, despite them being the same fucking thing. So where's the other stick of RAM? Same here, The controls were ok( I only had trouble rolling and doing the spin attack).

I didn't really have problems with them. They were just slightly less precise and dumbed the game down combat wise by just having to tap an enemy to tack. Also just awkward to hold the DS and play a stylus only game for long times (or when in a car or plane) vs. using traditional controls.

So in all, they didn't add anything and maybe took away a little. But I'm also just old and set in my ways and like traditional control!

Zelda DS was an abortion... I really disliked it, which is odd, because this is the first Zelda I ever just didn't like.

They didn't let it come because they wanted developers to release downloadable PS1 games on PSP, that's why. They didn't want devs taking the easy way out of porting several PS1 games to PSP with no adjustments and try to sell them at full price (like what happened a lot on GBA with SNES games).
).

Valkyrie Profile Lenneth?
Tales of Eternia?
Breath of Fire 3?
Final Fantasy Tactics?
Midnight Club 3?
Parappa the Rapper? (This one just flies in the face of that "no PS1 ports" bullshit, and it's a Sony game at that!)

All of these games had either no or minor adjustments, the same minor adjustments Suikoden 1 + 2 had. Sony US was the one who had the stupid rule about "ports", because Eternia and BoF 3 showed up in Europe too and they had ZERO enchancements.

Sony buckled for S-E, but gave other developers the shaft.

I am passing on FES, since it's too fucking long and with MK and GTA 4 around the corner, I'll just shelve it anyways. I'll grab it when it starts getting hard to find, but I'm not gonna get it ASAP. I did get Overlord and Rainbow Six Vegas today for a little under $30 total with the coupon + edge, so those'll be fun to play.

Parappa the Rapper? (This one just flies in the face of that "no PS1 ports" bullshit, and it's a Sony game at that!)Midnight Club 3 was a PS2 port (PS2 ports are okay). Suikoden I & II only had the Saturn opening including with the first, but Saturn ports were not allowed either. Tales of Eternia and BoF3 didn't come stateside (but came to Europe). They add absolutely nothing. VP Lenneth and FFT added content (such as beautiful CG scenes in VP and FFT: The War of the Lions adds new animated scenes along with the Onion Knight and such. PS1 ports needed some new content to be approved by SCEA at the time. Parappa The Rapper on PSP adds downloadable remixes (something the PS1 version lacks).

Actually Roufuss, Chac, etc., we had this same argument back in July of 2006.

Gotta ask yourself just how much FES you will play with GTA 4's enormous single player campaign, on top of 16 multiplayer modes on Live.

I'm still on the fence overall with FES, since I still own Persona 3 (which I cannot sell easily probably) which I did not beat, but I do want to go through the game.

Good morning GGT. I found a quote from some analyst dude:

While the much anticipated release of GTA IV at the end of April is expected to produce record sales, and Wii Fit, slated for May, is also expected to be a blockbuster, the remainder of the year lacks any big releases, and comparisons get tougher throughout the year as we lap titles such as Halo 3 and Guitar Hero 3.

Anyone else think that this is being a bit premature? Just by saying the "remainder of the year lacks any big releases", well not all companies have even anounced all their big releases. That's why we have E3 and the TGS. It seems to me this dude is being a bit arrogant and basically stating that GTA4 and Wii Fit are the only games worth buying this year. Personally, while I think the summer may be slow (and summers are usually slow) I think this will be a record year for game and console sales come holiday time, despite the problems with the economy.

Anyway, I'm gonna go back to playing Final Fantasy IX. Oh, and my FES hasn't shipped yet either. But I'm not too concerned, since it will go onto the backlog for a few months anyhow.

blueshinra

Yeah, it's definitely premature. The summer is shaping up to be slow as far as new releases go (well, there is FFTA2 coming out, but not much else I'm interested in), but the fall should see a fair number of big new releases, like it always does.

Though if the delivery date actually ends up being the 30th, that turns into a much more significant delay considering I have two-day shipping. No hurry though, I'm not really complaining.

It's going to take me a very long time to finish Rondo of Swords and Soul Nomad at my current rate of one map per day. Should be wrapping them up around the middle of May.

Forgot about Disgaea 3, but that's not gonna be as huge as MGS4, GTA IV, etc. That game's my one regret for not getting a PS3, but I think I can live without it.

Only things I plan on picking up this summer are FFTA2 and maybe Chocobo's Dungeon Wii. Otherwise, my backlog should hold me nicely for quite some time.

Unless you live in the middle of nowhere, and plan on holding off on an Atlus game for 6 months - a year, they are relatively easy to find.

Hell, I bought a new and sealed copy of Persona 3 in Janurary at a Gamestop, 5 months after it had came out, and there were plenty of stores nearby that still had it in stock.

I didn't find Etrian Odyssey new though, but that's almost a year after release, so that's expected. The whole attitude of "Atlus games are rare the moment they come out!!!" is kind of bullshit - yea, they have low print runs, but copies will still be there 3 - 6 months from now. From 6 months on, they'll probably start drying up, and then you have to dig a little, and a year from now they will be scarce.

I'm holding off for a couple of months on getting it, and I'm pretty sure it'll be easy to find. I'll only get one before that if someone decides to trade it in (and I can get it even cheaper with Edge), which is likely because people seem to love to trade in games here. Hell, I've seen multiple Ar Tonelico's pop up lately, who is trading that in for $12 in credit? I bet someone will feed into the rare mentality, get the game, hate it, and promptly trade it back in.

Not to mention, it will be awhile before the prices get obscenely high... the highest I saw on Ebay for a sealed Persona 3 was $80, but it averaged around $60 - $70. I got a sealed Etrian Odyssey for like $38 shipped on Ebay, which is $6 more than I would have paid in a store - I can deal with that.

IMO, Atlus stuff isn't all that hard to find. The ONLY Atlus games I noticed being extremely hard to find beyond anything were Monster Kingdom on PSP (only 1 out of 5 GS locations got it in, and Fry's Electronics an hour away) and Stella Dues on PS2 (same situation basically, preordered the only copy at my EB). Persona 3 for an example, I could find it at Sears, Meijer, and just about most major retailers without problems (I'd say roughly 50-60% of Atlus games are that way). Many Atlus games I have seen drop price even, if a Best Buy, Meijer, etc. stocks it.

From what Atlus once said in their forum (over some complaining about not finding Riviera), that Atlus actually wants games to be at more retailers; however, there are times retailers just don't try to buy, so they don't get (it was on their old forum so I cannot link it). For the most part, Atlus and Gamestop typically judge how many copies to ship based on preorders. That's why there's a sticky thread on their forum stating, if you want our games, you must preorder (and I do that, if I really want it).

Personally, I don't consider every RPG/Game Atlus brings over golden (there were a few I fell into it's Atlus, it has to be good, like for Magna Carta and Metal Saga (I ended up not buying Metal Saga due to just buying a PSP)), but they do publish a pretty good number of good games.

I was going to pick up Sega Rally Revo w/ the 25% coupon off of PS3 games, but ended up holding off. I plan to get it one day for sure, just felt I was better off getting the games I want most, even if the price was tempting. I'll probably just buy it new when Meijer drops the price.

I almost forgot that MGS4 could be considered a summer release. I really think that game will move a lot of triples. While I'm not buying my PS3 just for MGS specifically, it is a large factor in the purchase.

As for the Atlus games, I've really only tried to hunt down a couple, the most recent being Etrian Odyssey a few months ago, and I wound up picking it up for about $20 used at GS. I've never played Persona 3 yet, and only ordered FES because it is so highly recommended by the majority of the GGTers.

But, living in the suburbs of a large city like Atlanta, I do sorta take for granted that I have a lot of options of finding games that I'm looking for. Where my parents live up in Kentucky, there's only a handful of places to buy games (and only 1 GS in the entire town) and once those dry up, you really only have the internet to find them unless you want to drive a good distance. (And with the price of gas these days, that's becoming less and less of an option just for a game.) So yeah, I can see how some people have it easy to locate hard-to-find games, but this doesn't hold true to everyone everywhere.

jer7583
04-23-2008, 12:38 PM
No, I'm just so sick of this mentality of "If you don't get it first day with a pre-order, it's going to be impossible to find" because I'm not ready to buy a new RPG yet, I don't want to buy a new RPG before GTA4, and I won't spend money on something I won't play for another few months. It's absurd.

I don't even like the games that much, but I want to get hooked and give it a shot.

I don't even like the games that much, but I want to get hooked and give it a shot.

The only people who keep that line of thought going are the people who still think all Atlus games double their money in a month, Atlus prints 100 copies, etc etc etc. There is always someone in every thread about Atlus who is always going "YOU BETTER BUY IT THE FIRST DAY OR ELSE ITS GONE!!!". This guy just sees Nocturne or DDS 1 or something being $100 and assumes all Atlus games end up like that.

It's just better to ignore those people, as they often don't know what they are talking about.

If you don't want it right now, just wait, it will still be there in 3 or 6 months. I mean, it's not just Atlus, any game that isn't a million seller is hard to find after a year brand new, that's just the way things work these days.

I agree with you, on not buying stuff I won't be playing for awhile, which is why I'm going to wait. I'm sure you'll see on the forums very soon the guy whose Gamestop only get two copies of FES, and will say "OH MAN THIS GAME WILL BE SUPER RARE!!!". Even Best Buy is expecting copies of it.

It won't be printed in abundance, being a PS2 RPG and all, but it won't be underprinted either. It'll have a decent stock out there for a few months that will slowly start to dry up. The way I usually tell when stock is starting to dry up, is Gamestop.com, Amazon, and other online retailers will run out of the game for sale permanently, then I know it's about time to go pick it up somewhere since B&M is going to be the only option.

The original Persona 3 was going for a lotta money on Ebay in 3 to 6 months... implying it wasn't exactly easy to find anymore.I still couldn't believe it happened because I was able to find brand new copies for $30 at Meijer easily in December (P3 came out in August) and Sears still had it.

There's this one guy I know, who has like 1000+ video games and never really plays anything, he still constantly assumes every Atlus game will go rare after release, so he buys it (I told him I wasn't going to worry about Bomberman Land Touch on release, he thought I was crazy, and I saw it at Wal-Mart and other retailers). But then again, he has some serious problems buying any single game he'll think he may like, and never get around to playing it (and admit he has no time for games). He'll even buy collectors editions of games like Prey, Lost Planet, PDZ expecting them to go up (he has no 360 either).

But like Roufuss said, I just watch the stock of an Atlus game, and if it gets really low (like in my case, most GS locations running out in the store locater), I will buy.

A light summer is fine with me. Besides starting a new career in the summer, after NG2 and possibly MGS4 I've got enough games to last me the rest of the year.

Yeah, I'm going to be busy as well. Teaching an undergrad course and finishing and defending my dissertation prospectus.

Also will have plenty of older games to play from Goozex anyway. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if I don't buy a new game until Gears of War, both for those reasons and not really seeing anything else that is a day one, full price purchase.

Sounds like someone has been listening to the mentality of a gamestop clerk.

The worst I did (which is really not that bad) was pick up Warcraft 3: TFT at a midnight launch.

The people there were something else and I thought it was odd for a 12-year-old kid to be talking to a 50-year-old about their experiences with Tower Defense.

On the plus side, I went online, lost 2 matches, and was ranked in the top 200 =)

The Wii (preorder) remains the only thing I have ever camped out for. Got to EB around 5 or 6am (don't recall exactly), shot the shit with a few guys and a couple employees till opening at 9 or whatever it was, and done. Grabbed it at opening on November 19.

I don't think I've done any midnight launches. I'm not very hardcore.

But I do have to ask , what's sp special about Metal Slug 3 for the PS2 standalone over the Metal Slug Anthology?

They took out the slowdown, there's a couple bonus modes (which were kinda amusing), and the Anthology's got input lag. Unfortunately, because every iteration of the Anthology is shoddy, I'm just buying the individual releases of the games on the PS2... but hopefully the version of Metal Slug 1 (which is probably my favorite) will finally get the treatment it deserves on the SNK Arcade Classics disc... next week!

I guess I can post my stories of hardcoreness.

I waited over 20 hours to get my launch xbox 360 at best buy in 10 degree weather.

I waited over 15 hours with friends to get a wii at launch.

I went to the SSBB brawl midnight launch, I went to the halo 3 midnight launch, and thats about it.

Relatively tame, unless you count that one time when I tried to get a xbox 360 at costco for profit, and I was literrally in a mad dash against 100 other people, only to be trampled by a huge fat lady.

Fun Times.
Don't Regret Doing any of it at all.

I just got a media center keyboard at target for 20 dollars, so I can now sitback on my couch and use my laptop to easily surf the web.

I'm so hardcore, I got a co-worker to pick up my Wii on launch day because I was out of town.

And we were both guaranteed our systems thanks to that "trial" trade-in/pre-order deal they were testing in Hawaii. I don't think he did anything other than walk-in after it opened to pick them up because I had everything purchased in advance.

It's that slow drying that tends to catch me. Unless it's a game I'm really interested in but want a price drop for, I'll tend to forget about it until it's too late.

In the case of Atlus games, a lot of times one will come out, and I'll only hear about how awesome it is from friends or whatnot some time later, when said game becomes harder to find. I don't follow most Atlus releases closely to begin with.

(And speaking of Atlus, just won complete copies of DDS 1 + 2 on eBay for $100! Yay :))

I've never waited very long for anything.

2 hours or so at a wal-mart for the midnight sales of the Gamecube. 1.5 hours at gamestop for Wii preorder, that's pretty much it.

Probably will never do it again as I've learned not to buy consoles at launch after ending up hating the Wii. Will wait at least for first price drops in all likelihood from now on. Or at least long enough to see several games I want to play and how other things (like online network etc.) pan out before taking the plunge.

Back when the PS2 came out, I was still working at GameStop (I had two jobs actually, one at a smoothie place called JuiceStop lol). I was working the midnight launch for the PS2. So my shift was like 11PM - 3 AM.

At around 10PM a few friends and I laid out our blankets and chairs in front of the closest Best Buy so we could get our hands on our PS2s as well. I was buying one just to flip for profit. I already had a Japanese launch PS2 and had my own US PS2 preordered at the GameStop I worked at.

So I had to deal with this long line of rabid PlayStation 2 purchases, then as soon as I got off work, drove down the street to Best Buy to wait in line for the other PS2.

The camp outs I do are never bad, I always have my friends with me and we always bring a TV/system so we can game overnight.

Damn, this post is longer than I thought it'd be. But yea... Here's other stuff I did:

- Camped out noon the night before the Xbox 360 came out. Bought 2(one to sell), one for funding my games/accessories.
- Camped out for PS3/Wii Preorders at GameStop. (for 10 hours)
- Camped out for PS3 Preorders at Toys R' Us. (for 36 hours)
- Camped out at Costco for 12 hours to get my Wii.

Bought a Tekken 5 arcade board when it first came out for like 5K X_X

...

Oh yea. I bought 7 PS3s at launch. One to keep the rest were sold. I made about $6600 total when all was said and done. God bless Sony! :P

4 of those PS3s were sold to a game developer in the LA area. For buying/delivering to them they hooked me up with HELLA free stuff that was well worth over $1000 lol.

Never camped out for a system or game before (or waited in a really long line for one either) however I did go through a bit of a trial to get my wii.

Back in september last year , I got a tip from one of my friends at work that wal-mart had goten about 20 wiis in stock , since he knew I was looking for one. So I swung by there on my lunch break and managed to get ahold of one. But when they tried to ring me up my bank card was declined. I knew I had money in my account so I called up the bank to see what happened and they told me that my card was flagged as a potential stolen card purchase. They said that since I usually don't purchase anything that expensive my account was automatically flagged. After about 30 minutes on the phone they deflagged my account and I was able to buy my wii.

On a similar note , last week , wal-mart almost kept me from buying a system from them again. I went in to get a PSP and when I used my card , the cashier asked for my ID. When he checked it he refused to sell it to me since my ID was expired (it wasn't a drivers licence , just a state ID). After some coaxing and some defence from my friend the guy finally sold it to me , but was all like "but I didn't sell it to you" and shit.

Maybe Wal-mart just hates me.

A little off-topic, but while I was out at GS today, I looked across the street at a Speedway gas station, and saw prices jumped to $3.65 a gallon. I seriously couldn't believe the $0.20 jump. I checked out CNN, and saw some stations in San Francisco are over $4 per gallon: http://www.cnn.com/2008/LIVING/04/23/gas.prices/index.html

I remember thinking over $3 per gallon of gas would never happen, but it seems like it has.

I'm kind of wondering if I'll get addicted to Rock Band like I do DDR. Every time I get a DDR on a console, I play it more than anything else. I enjoyed GH, but didn't play it anywhere near as much as DDR.
