Deathstroke and Black Adam would be heavily influence my decision on buying this game. However, as a comic book fan, DC Universe Online is more of what I want in terms of character selection. I never considered this game a way of satisfying inner comic book nerd.

Mortal Kombat vs. DC should feature more mainstream entities as its target audience is probably only interested in the novelty of this game. Which brings me to Doomsday...

A shit character that is visually interesting and will attract casual fans. It would make sense to include him in a Mortal Kombat game. In fact, I expect him to be one of the bosses as he has Goro appeal - even though Darkseid makes more sense.

Another thing I noticed was that when you used to click on Sub-Zero's eye, another screen would pop up with several question marks. Well now when you do the same thing, the question marks are still there except that some are upside down and other aren't.

Also this Friday Midway will be confirming the new characters.

If they're doing DLC of characters of costumes, then they can do a shit load with Sinestro Corps. Especially Sinestro Corps (or to lesser extent Green Lantern) Batman, either that or GREAT way to do cross promo with comics with DLC. Black Lantern Corps alternate skins would be friggin awesome (especially with the rumor that Abin Sur maybe the leader of the Black Lantern Corps, since dead and Darkest Night flashback happening in the comics right now).

Though if Black Adam is in it I want him to have the fatality like he did to Psycho Pirate in Final Crisis where he pushed his hand through his head and his eyeballs and brains came flying out.

A kid asked about Doomsday being in the game as the final boss. The panel said that they couldn't speak to Doomsday specifically but would be announcing the final boss in the coming months.
Two folks in a row asked if the Teen rating was holding the game back. Boon said that they made concessions, but they're happy with pushing the limits that that rating entails.
No Babalities. Focusing on fighting and story mode.
Toasty-guy could possibly be in the game.
Boon did the most subdued "Get over here" I've ever heard.
They're not doing platform specific characters -- it would've pissed people off and it would've hindered the story.
They're looking into DLC.
No environmental Fatalities like the old school spike death.
Smoke's "probably not" in the game.
Different, unlockable costumes? Boon says there'll be differences so Batman vs. Batman doesn't feature too exact clones, but they're still looking into the different ideas.

A guy begged for Aquaman to be in the game and be badass. Just about everyone laughed at this thought.

A woman stepped up to the mic to say she was here to represent the female Mortal Kombat fans. Someone booed her. You have to love Comic-Con. Anyway, she asked how they created a story that dealt with two universes that were so different. Palmiotti said the biggest thing was crafting a story that made sense. He thinks they have it, but can't talk too much about it.
No in-game weapons.
There are no plans to bring MK back to the arcades, but there's going to be a strong online component. There will be a chat room-like gathering place to challenge folks and here about match results. There will be leaderboards.
The DC idea was presented to the MK team by its marketing department.
Boon says they got the DC characters they wanted -- recognizable faces. No Krypto, Bat-Mite, or Mr. Mxyzptlk.

Yeah, the newest version. I have yet to see the Dark Knight....but the lipstick style adds a lot to the sadistic angle of the character. I probably don't see the Joker as being scary because of the Cartoon.....I always found that Jester Chick to be scarier.

I would say comic Joker is more sadistic than Ledger's Joker, as seen in The Killing Joke (shooting, paralyzing, and stripping Barbara Gordon), Death in the Family (torturing and murdering Jason Todd), and No Man's Land (murdering Commissioner Gordon's wife).

As for the animated series', Return of the Joker saw Joker abduct, torture, and mutilate a young Tim Drake.

However, I understand how people could so highly-regard Ledger's Joker. One reason would be the difference in the mediums. Another, would be not having read the comics.

In any event, it doesn't particularly matter. ;)

B-b-bullshit! In recent issues (specifically Grant Morrison's run), Joker has proven himself insane to the point of just basically seeing things other's don't. By that I mean in the DC Universe $1 Crisis preview it had Joker basically telling Batman to prepare himself for RIP. So there is a method to his madness in some sense. Also in the comics he's more then just a whack job as countless times he's proven Batman is insane (or possibly even more so) then he is (read the last pages of Killing Joke or Arkham Asylum or hell possibly even the Detective Comics where he takes Robin on a "killer" car ride). So Joker is much more then just a simple whack job.

In regards to boss characters, I suspect Anti-Monitor, Darkseid, or Mongul. I think Darkseid is a lock as a boss character. Anti-Monitor would be interesting to see in detailed, video game form. Plus, he's the Anti-Monitor. They might have to scale him down, but he would present a very formidable, terrifying character to face after working up to the boss fights. :cold:

I am the same boat. I have pretty much skipped every MK since II ( a little III) and have not really been into fighting games since. With the exception of Capcom vs SNK.

I am really excited about this. I mean I love comics and the new fighting system things sound pretty cool and makes the game look pretty and dynamic. I have also read nothing but good things from the press who have played the demos, which is good since its still got like 4 months left.

As for a good boss....What about Bane?

MK_Hec from the Midway Boards has confirmed that 4 more characters will be revealed at Leipzig, which will be on August 20.

Im guessing that two of those characters will be Wonder Woman and Raiden.

Regarding alternate costumes, I would like to see a new design for Sub-Zero as an Ice God, and perhaps a version of Jax that makes me like the character. This version would be called "Stryker." ;) I'm talking about first appearance, backwards cap, blue and white shirt Stryker not black leather, something-out-of-the-X-Men movies Stryker.

As for DC characters, I support mullet Supes, Black Adam, and various Red Son and Kingdom Come versions of characters.

Stryker's biography screen in Mortal Kombat 3 revealed that he was the leader of the Riot Control Brigade when Outworld's portal opened over New York City. Stryker did not understand why he had been spared until he received a vision from Raiden, instructing him to head west in order to meet with the other chosen warriors and learn about the importance of his survival. Only if you get it for 10 bucks or less. It was passable but there's little reason to pick it up now. Huge roster but the game itself seemed to be a step back from MK Deception.

Wait for the 3 pack, Armageddon, Deception, Shaolin Monks PS2 pack to come out. SM is a great game, i played through it so many times. Deception has a really fun konquest mode, and armageddon has every character ever...well except Khameleon.

also they released MKCast #5 and revealed the following:

1. The Joker's fatality may be ready in time for the event in Leipzig, Germany, next week.
2. A playthrough of the story mode is estimated to take two and a half to three hours, for each side
3. A large number of NPCs will appear in cameo roles in the story mode on both sides.
4. Every character will have their own ending in Arcade mode, represented by "paintings" that sound similar to MKDA and MKD's style of endings. It was said that many easter eggs will be given for both the MK and DC sides.
5. Every character will have their own unique fighting "style" and "stance".

I hope there is a story reason why they are tweaking the outfits to make them look like body armor pieces. Things like Flash wearing yellow gloves and Hal Jordan's black collar make me look at the some of these DC characters and know something is different from what they are supposed to look like and it starts to bug me. I wonder what tweaks they will be doing to Wonder Woman since it is pretty obvious she will be number 10 on the list.

Still if they decide to do more than 10 on each side and add Hawkman and Green Arrow, they will have every DC character I would want to play other then having Jesse Custer who would have the best Fatalities ever. An 70's/80's style Green Arrow with all his fun trick arrows could be enjoyable but I also fear for what tweaks we would see for their outfits.

GameSpot:

Each character will have a rage meter, just underneath their health meter. You build your rage meter by taking and dealing damage, or by blocking opponent strikes. As the meter fills up, you can use breaks to block opponent strikes. If you let the rage meter build up completely, however, you can enter rage mode (by pressing the shoulder buttons). Here, you'll have roughly six seconds to kick as much butt as you possibly can. Your attacks will be more powerful and, more importantly, unblockable so, as long as you can make contact, you'll be pounding your foe into dust. Just watch out, because his or her rage meter will be similarly building--as a result, you'll have to use your rage meter at the right moment (preferably to finish off your opponent). Fail to do so, and you might find yourself on the receiving end of a rage flurry.

I dont see them adding anymore women. This isnt soul calibur. :lol: 4 is probably the max for females we will get with a roster of only 20. Unless they add new characters via DLC.

I still do not like that when you perform a finisher, your character's eyes glow yellow like they are possessed. Come on 7, you have to admit the recent MK tiltes aren't exactly great. I personally avoided any fighting games for a while because they weren't going anywhere. IMO, unless some insane shit is introduced to a franchise you shouldn't release titles in such a short period of time.

Its not really about the reviews...(IGN and gamespot? Who the hell reads those for accurate reviews, get on eurogamer and gametrailers son!) The games simply sucked ass since they went 3d like 5 years ago.

You liking them is fine and dandy but your in a league of about 20 people who could really give a rats ass about MK games. I dont even think the casual gamer even knows they are making yet another MK game and wouldnt pick it up regardless of this gimmick.

Jokers fatality was cheesy and very poorly rendered in my opinion. And is as stupid as every other MK fatality was. It just seems to much like a regular MK game just with a DC paint job. Honestly would anyone even give a fuck about MK if it didnt have this DC gimmick? I mean the last like 5 MK games all rated horrid.

This game seems to be more of a "cool idea" rather than a actual good game.

Deception was the best out of the MK games last gen. It had enough characters and things to do unlike Shaolin with too little characters and Armageddon with too many. MK is decent.
I wouldn't take it over SF or SC, it doesn't have the personailty of a Japanese fighter. I also hate how they handle the intros, voices and win poses

To keep the thread hijacking at by I will post this in spoilers so you can skip it if you want.

I have played every single MK since it was born. I gave all of them at least a shot. They simply just suck. I grew up with MK being one of the fighters that you played. I might be wrong about the amount of people who still will purchase a MK game but I am far for disliking the franchise. (by the way it did rank 4 in the month of its release for xbox titles but didnt come close to breaking top 30)

MK is exactly like Sonic the Hedgehog. The earlier games were extremely popular and you grew a massive fan base but everything past your "golden era" as been a failure. People dont but Sonic/MK games because they think they are going to be cutting edge or even compete with the 10 other games that have proven to be better over time. They buy them beacuse they played them growing up. Thats the reason why I continue to at least try each MK game even though deep down I know it sucks before even playing it.

Again, I could give a rats ass about reviews I wouldnt trust a reviewer as far as I could throw them. There are 2 reviews that are worth listening to, Eurogamer and Gametrailers. IGN has been proven to lie as well as gamestop. Eurogamer gave it a 5/10 and I played it and would give it a slightly lower score. By way game rankings has it in 70% range which isnt "fairly positive" its "completely average."

But reviews mean absolutely nothing because you can always find at least 10 reviews that are vastly polar opposites. I bet you somewhere out deep in cyber space there is a couple professional reviewers that actually liked Superman 64.


I simply do not think this game will be good. It will sell decently solely for its gimmick but like every MK game past 3 people will completely forget about it a couple months after its release because they simply dont stand the test of time.


But thats enough of my ranting. Sorry to hijack I will try to keep all other post more on topic.

On Topic. Watch again at the Superman vs Sub Zero fight in the background. I am looking at that and easily replacing superman with Jax or someone. I mean its common fact that even thought here is like what 62 char in MK there are really only like 12 different ones. Most are just clones of each other and that is what this game feels like. I watch the vids and it feels like Flash will just be a clone of Ermac or Batman will be fucking Baraka or someone.

I simply can not shake the feeling that I am actually watching reptile dressed up in joker clothes than an actually new char. I am seeing all of the same old MK moves just with new people. Like they do with every other MK game. At least when it was the origanal like 12 char they were all different but now we have like 5 sub zeros 6 scorpions 7 robots that all have the same moves.

Bah I dont know...guess we will seey huh? (Note that if you listen the producer says that the Joker has the greatest moves in the history of fighting games and proceeds to show off a jump kick, a pistol whip, and a bomb...WTF?)

Street Fighter IV producer Yoshinori Ono has responded to Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon's recent comment that MKVSDCU will "kick" Street Fighter IV's "ass" by saying "bring it on!".

Ono-san issued the rebuke in an interview with VideoGamer.com from Leipzig Games Convention, to be published later today. But he also welcomed the competition, saying that if the Midway published title can convert comic fans to fighting game fans, then "the more the merrier".

He said: "You know what, if they can turn the comic fan into a fighting genre fan, the more the merrier. If they can kick our ass, so be it, bring it on! We're in the same team as far as we're concerned so if they can do it, great."

The talk rekindles memories from the early Nineties, when Street Fighter II and Mortal Kombat were the two biggest games on earth and playground fights centred around which fighter was better.

Currently, Street Fighter IV does not have a console release date, although it is out in Japanese arcades. Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe is due out for Xbox 360 and PS3 this autumn

Well, at least his beard is fluffy. I think bald with a beard would look more intimidating, though.

And it does look like women's lace around his knuckles.

As for the boss character, I think Shao Kahn controlled by Brainiac would be predictable. I want Goro spliced with Doomsday. And hey, maybe Shang Tsung combined with Parasite as the sub-boss, as it would make sense considering their powers.

I also want Johnny Cage possessed by the Spectre. That would be bad ass.
