Wii memory card question

hey guys, just got a wii about two weeks ago and I'm wondering how necessary the memory card is. I mean, I know I'll probably eventually need one, but I guess my main question would be how long did it take most of you all to need a card or did you all just go buy one anyway.

I had my Wii since launch, and I still haven't needed one. I did pick a 1GB up from NewEgg.com at one point for like $7 though.

EDIT: the only way you'll ever need one is if you download a lot of VC and WiiWare.

I bought a 2G card last year and just use it for backups for saves. I've only bought 3 VC games, so I still have lots of system memory left and don't even really need it.

Sounds good guys, I appreciate the quick help! Do you guys have or know of a decent system selector by chance? I thought about getting the demon Gamestop version, but it just looks cheap...I get tired of switching cords all the time

I agree with the need for the extra memory card. I have a 2gb one from black friday last year and have yet to even use it.

as far as the system selector goes, I just bought a cheap one from Target for 14.99 and it has worked great for me. If you want something nicer because you are running on an HDTV or something then yeah spend more, but otherwise a basic one will do ya for a basic TV. :D
