If anyone is in the market for a DVD burner, Newegg has this http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=27-131-327&depa=0 which is supposed to be a very good one for $100 after rebate with free shipping and a free 5pack of DVD-Rs. Thought some of you might be interested, I found it a little hard to pass up.

While his rank is Cheap Ass Newbie, and this was his first post/topic, he has still been registered on this site for four days more than you. Who's the "noob" now?

IKIK tdphillips. I couldn't resist flaming you after you set yourself up!

Thanks for the deal.
Does anyone know if Xboxs/PS2 can play DVD movies that are burned from this thing?
My desktop's CD-RW drive crapped out and I need a replacement.

New Egg has some GREAT prices. I think I may upgrade my DVD burner again. I currently only have a 4X and only +R media. I may consider the 8X Dual Layer or a 12X...saw a 16X today too.

And you would get a faster speed...why? The media you need to burn at 8X is expensive enough. By the time 8x, 12x, and 16x (and dual layer) media sells at a reasonable price, you'll be able to buy a burner to use them with for a song. I don't understand the thinking behind buying a drive that will cost you an arm and a leg to feed media to.

My friend's Samsung Xbox can play burned DVD-R's. We were watching a burned season 2 of the Chappele Show on his Xbox.

Well, I was looking at the 8X NEC DL drive is $72, the Pioneer 16X DL drive is $102. I know it's $30, but it's nto that much more. Also, 8X media is rather cheap now. At least some is.....

I know the 16 is pointless right now, but it would probably be cheaper than buying the 16X rather than upgrading in another 6 months.

However, to contradict myself. I think I may just keep my 4X for a while longer...a few months maybe and see where prices are then.

The only problem with the 12x rating on this DVD burner is that its 12x for DVD+Rs only which is no good for copying most of the movies out today.

I ONLY use DVD+R. I have never ever had a problem BACKING UP a DVD. What are you using DVD-R, I thought those were not as good for some reason.

Go with the NEC. Its a great drive. It burns many 4x dvds at 8x, atleast with hacked firmware.

I think I read that you can upgrade the firmware of the one that burns single layer into a DUAL LAYER burner, is that possible or wise? I've never upgraded firmware on my current burner since there is not one available.

Thanks for the deal, currently using a 4x burner but it doesn't hurt to be prepared.
