I am a happy 360 owner who contemplated buying a ps3 for a few random titles including MLB 08. I never had a ps2 (I know that's insane) so I needed a backward compatible system for games that I had never played such as GOW, GOW II, etc. Picked up a used 60 GB for 300. Given that I never had a ps2, this was just too good to pass up.

Good luck. I've been on the fence for over a year now and still can't bring myself to get a box that is almost guaranteed to fail. Every one of my friends has had their 360 red ring at least once, some multiple times. Even though the 360 has at least 20 games I'd love to play compared to the Ps3's feeble library, I'll probably hold out for a PS3 this Christmas.

If MS would just come out and be honest about their manufacturing blunders and that they've actually fixed them, I'd reconsider. But I don't think that's ever happening.

Yes, I picked up a 60 gb ps3. I already had the 360.

If you're seriously looking into getting a 360, do what I did. Research the crap out of it. LOL. I bought an elite, but not before I knew what group and lot number I wanted. I drove several store employees crazy trying to find the right ones. BUT, it was well worth it. My 360 is great. Not a single complaint. I've had it for about 7 months now and use it constantly for hours at a time. No issues whatsoever. There's a website, which if memory serves, is 360drives.com or something like that which can help you find the Benq drive for each system, etc. GL!

For now I'm pleased with my ps3 pick up.

It's true that Microsoft is a shitty hardware company, but the great games for the 360 make up for it imo. I've had tons of fun with mine, despite the hardware issues.

The easiest thing to do is to just buy the system and an extended warranty from Microsoft , I did and completely don't care if my 360 red rings. Besides nothing is guaranteed, i've gone through two systems, my nephew who has had his just as long never had one problem. I mean really sit back and go over what you just said, 20 games you want for the 360 versus just a few for the ps3 and you're letting a possible failure microsoft will fix for free hold you back?

Anyway back on subject here, I also got my ps3 for around 300 so I know the sweet sweet feeling that brings. Though I don't envy your position, never had a ps2? Man you got a lot of gaming ahead of you, so many games now considered classics you have never touched.

cool steel, it's so true. My potential library of games to tackle just grew immensely. The truth is I was previously a huge sports gamer, but I have expanded my horizons since I bought the 360. I had an xbox on which I religiously played myp 05. That's why the "sweet sweet feeling" of getting a 60 gb at 300 is that much more sweet. So many classic ps2 games that can be purchased for a few bucks each.

if your not on Goozex, then get on there! I also never had a PS2, but I traded in a couple of GBA and DC games, and I'm catching up quick!

I thought my $400 for a 60gb was good but, $300 is even better! Especially with PS3 stuff picking up within the next few months. You won't regret it.

For the record... My first 360 is still working although it freezes every so often.

Might be an understatement, on both accounts. Microsoft is awful when it comes to handling their hardware. Obviously, they themselves do not produce these units, but they need to learn to put some pressure on their OEMs to do a better job. The 360 is an epic mess, and I've had numerous problems with their keyboards and mice in the past.

And, of course, on the other hand, the 360 is simply the better platform right now, between it and the PS3. I have about 20 games on the 360, as well as about 20 Arcade titles, as opposed to a total of 2 games on the PS3 and a few downloaded titles.

This may be a dumb question fellas but is resistance worth picking up (having enjoyed halo, cod 4, etc, on the 360)? If so what's an acceptable cheapassgamer price to pick a copy up for?

I can't bring myself to purchase a 360. First off, EVERY 360 will get a RROD at one time or another, and I don't want to have to wait 6 weeks to play it. Also, not only are the peripherals WAY overpriced, but Live to too damn much as well. Also, Sony cares much more about their customers than Microsoft. (Look how quickly MS discontinues the Xbox, while the PS2 is alive as ever.)

I'd say you made the right decision by picking one up. Also, where did you pick one up for $300?

Craigslist, guy was in a bit of a financial pinch and I was able to respond and pay cash immediately. Lucked out because i avoided getting into a bidding war. It was well kept, he had the manuals, box, cables etc.

Most certainly. Resistance is easily still one of the best games on the PS3, which is why it is one of the two games I actually own. You can get a new on on eBay for probably around $40 shipped.

I've had the RROD once and it was super quick (sometime within like 3 weeks) and a buddy got back even quicker. Microsoft definitely cares about their customers, they just had bad hardware this generation. And while the scale isn't the same PS2 had bad lasers, why can't 360's overheat? and seriously live?!?! its incredibly cheap for how amazing a system it is. it trumps all other love (you get what you pay for) I'm a super cheap ass and i never have a problem forking over the dough for live. And finally you have to remeber that PS2 owned last generation, why shouldn't microsoft drop a money draining machine (xbox 180). the only reason that sony still supports the PS2 is because thats where they are currently getting their money to finance the PS3 campaign.

But neither here nor there. OP congrats on the purchase, im looking diligently for a guy in financial trouble. one can always hope

I guess the 60 was the best version of the PS3 so far? I can't remember why though.

My RROD took about 2 weeks. The coffin arrived the day after I put in the request, then the system came back maybe 12 days after I sent it in.

I got my 60GB PS3 in one of the shadier Craiglist deals I've been involved with. Literally bought it out of some ghetto-ass chick's trunk, but it was brand new and $400 probably 6 months after the system's launch. Had to do it.

Think about what the main draw of the 360 is, the main thing most of it's title's revolve around: Xbox Live. And how much fun will Xbox Live be when no one is playing it? Not very. And considering the Xbox 720 should launch in about 2 years, you'll only have about a year before people start getting tired of the 360 and start heavily anticipating the next console. How much do people feel like playing an Xbox 1? Well the 360 will be like that in less time than warrants a $450+ purchase if you get just the Premium and a couple of games.

First of all, there is nothing but speculation about the next Xbox console. That's it. And speculation means little. Right now, there is no firm information about when we will see the next Microsoft console or even any details about it the system itself. Until we actually have some information about the console, we shouldn't even bother speculating about when it will be released.

Second of all, even when the new Microsoft console is announced, the 360 will still have plenty of life. Consoles don't just die when the next one comes along, let alone when it is announced. People still own and play games on an Xbox, GameCube, or PS2. And comparing the later days of the Xbox and the Xbox 360 makes no sense. The Xbox was not as popular as the 360. You'd be better off comparing the 360 to the PS2, which is still a viable platform.

My friend just got an elite... I'm stoked because then I don't have to keep hauling mine over there. You don't get a 360 for the system, you get it for the games and the controller. Everyone knows that.

I actually would think the price of the 60gb would be on the rise about now... No?

I guess the 60 was the best version of the PS3 so far? I can't remember why though.

The main one is it has the best backwards compatibility. While not perfect, the 20 Gb and 60 Gb have the actual hardware in them to play PS2 games. With the 80 Gb, they opted to use a PS2 emulator instead, which is cheaper for them but has a higher occurrence of messed up games for us players. The 40 Gb has no PS2 capabilities at all, and can only play PS3 and PS1 games.

The 60 also has 4 USB ports while the 20 and 40 only have 2, and I may be wrong but I believe the 20 and 40 are missing the ports where you can plug in SD cards and memory sticks.

So the only downside to the 60 is that it has 20 Gb less space than the 80. It wins or at least ties for first in all other fields.

Of course, the 60 Gb is still not the dream PS3 though. That one would have included slots for memory cards and PS1/2 controllers. And it would make hot cocoa.

Oh, sounds about right.

The 40 Gb has no PS2 capabilities at all, and can only play PS3 and PS1 games.

That's just silly.

That one would have included slots for memory cards and PS1/2 controllers.

Meh... I got a mem card adapter but, then why if there are usb thumb drives and online game saves capabilities.

How reliable are the 360 Pro's now though? I ask because I doubt I'll be playing more than Crackdown or GTAIV for it for a LONG while and I want to know if it's worth it to just go get a new 360 Pro or buy a used one for $250 from a local shop and throw the optional $60 warranty extension on it.

In my eyes, it'd be the better value, since in that way I'm covered either way.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but is the warranty still one year from the original purchase date for everything and THREE years for the RROD specifically?

Or, did I hear that wrong?
