View Full Version : Trading question
I hope this is the right forum for a discussion as this; I received a message from someone I traded with on another site. Here is a summary of the transaction:
I agreed to send the Nintendo WiFi adapter [marked no box, no manual] and a PS3 game [box and manual] in exchange for a Nintendo Wii game. I sent first on the 14th and it was received on the 19th. The other trader sent the game on the 24th (still have not received) and sent a message today saying the WiFi adapter was useless without the install CD and usb cord (a 3-6" extension cord... which is NOT necessary).
I pointed him in the direction of the latest software for download and assured him that the usb cord was not necessary. I had no intention of misleading the other trader that the other components were included and I see his point but I don't feel as if this is a deal breaking detail. I concede that I was wrong in expecting the marking of no box/no manual to mean that it was the hardware only, but I'd be really hesitant to cancel the trade because of it. As far as I know, the trader had my game and hardware for a week before mentioning and I'd be suspect that he just had regretted the trade.
I have yet to hear back, but I would like to know what this community feels about it if he demands to cancel. I hate to be a jerk, but I feel like my end was upheld.

Hard to say since this is an accessory and it's hard to say that the CD isn't included when that's not an option. At the same time, you're right that you can get the software online and the USB cable is just an extension USB cord (which you can pick up for a few bucks online).
But in cases like this, it's always nice to let the other person know about such things through a message. Like if a game is missing a bonus poster/music CD/something and there's no option to mark it as such, I just tell anyone up front before any deal talk begins so that it doesn't become an issue later on.
If he asks for a cancel, be hesitant and try and re-explain things to him nicely but I'd cancel if he insists.

your best bet is to tell the guy to return your game and adapter if he is not going to go on with the trade. 1 week should be more than enough time for the guy to send your item or return your stuff, it seems he's being more of a douchebag or doesn't know how to install the damn thing.

Since I can see the trade on GTZ, I'll comment on this, since you're fairly new to that site.
Yeah, I agree with devildr1ver, just have him send back Rainbow Six Vegas. Did the Wi-Fi connector come with the USB & CD? If so, I expect that to come with the connector too. It would be like buying a PS3 and not getting the power cord or A/V cables when just says no box or manual.
As for spots to mention it, that's actually what the comments part of the item listing is for. Usually if a game's a ex-rental or been resurfaced, that's where I mention it.

Thanks for your perspective and that's something I'll be paying more attention to in the future. Truth be told I feel like I gave up more in the trade than the other person, but I'm just not happy that he's had a free 'rental' of my things and I'm out shipping because of it. I think if he had an issue he should have addressed it before sending his game out. But.. we'll see. He had logged into the site after I sent the message without replying.

He's probably just thinking about what to do right now, give him a day to get response back. If you don't get a response by thursday, contact the mods there. I've had a couple of trades where I'd ask & ask only to get no response, contacting the mods usually lights a fire under the other trader's ass.
As for the "free rental" thing, yeah, I know that sucks. But that's what happens when something isn't right with the trade. But at least it'll help with future trades.

I agree.

Yeah, that was stupid. I always inspect games/items as soon as I get them.
