what are your favorite old arcade games to play with MAME? Mine are the metal slug series.

I love vertical shooters, especially "bullet hell" shooters. I can play them and get good at them (well kinda;)) without spending tons money on them!8-)

QFMFT.
Plus the Capcom and SNK games obviously, since it's the only way I can get arcade perfect versions of those games. Pretty much any Cave shooter too. And the army of side scrolling beat em ups. The list is endless. . .

Guwange is awesome.
I don't know if you're thinking about Sengoku, since it's more of a brawler. Sengoku 3 is pretty sweet. I can only think of a few that aren't brawlers, like Magician Lord and Top Hunter.

The Simpsons, WWF WrestleFest, WWF Superstars
Last Blade series. Metal Slug series. Shock Troopers. Gauntlet. Galaxian. That Shinobi game (the one that has that bonus stage where you throw ninja stars before you get hit by a random ninja). Gosh, there's quite a bit games but I mostly play Neo Geo games on MAME.
