Picked this up at a yard-sale today, and trying to figure out if it's broken or what. It is a version 3.2 Gameshark, and when it boots up, it has number 8 on the LED. It never goes to a countdown on the little LED area like it's supposed to. I've tried multiple games and the gameshark by itself. Any ideas?

Gameshark and other cheat devices was never built to last. All devices will corrode away especially with repeative usage. The best thing anybody can do is clean the connectors and hope it will work.

Another thing might be is that something is disconnected or loose in the cart. Once again these devices is cheaply made.

I had one, and it sucked. I got it brand new for Christmas and in order for it to work with most of my games, I had to send it in to get upgraded RIGHT OUT OF THE DAMN BOX. I was not pleased. I never upgraded it. The thing really worked half of the time anyway.

I have a 3.0 Gameshark Pro that was exhibiting the same problem.
I came across the following paragraph (on http://then64zone.tripod.com/stuff/gsbook.html):

At this point, a warning is displayed to confirm
that you have the game associated with the selected Keycode.

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE GAME AVAILABLE, DO NOT PRESS THE "A" BUTTON TO SELECT
IT. IF YOU DO SELECT THE KEYCODE, THE NEXT TIME YOU POWER UP THE GAME SHARK,
THAT SPECIFIC GAME MUST BE PRESENT. BE WARNED - IF THE GAME IS NOT PRESENT,
YOUR

GAME SHARK WILL LOCK-UP UNTIL THE SPECIFIC GAME REQUIRING THAT KEYCODE IS
INSERTED.

I only ever used my Gameshark once to unlock the tracks on Diddy Kong Racing.
I tried using the Diddy Kong cartridge instead of the several others I had tried, and the Gameshark menu came up!

So, try it with every cartridge you have and see if that helps.

See, I thought about that. The problem is, the only game that I have that has a specific keycode is Diddy Kong Racing, and that one didn't help. I had already tried all of them too. I really don't want to purchase the other ones just to try and get it to work. It is an idea though.

This sounds a lot like what I remember...and if it's true, then you're probably SOL. It sounds like the Game Shark is looking for one particular game to launch with, but you've got no idea of knowing what that game is.

I miss the days of the Game Genie. Those worked so much better than the newer versions of Game Sharks and Action Replays ever have.
