Is the Moto Q any good, or should I spend the extra $120 and get the Moto Q 9c?

From what I've read in this thread, it's well worth it to get the Moto Q9c.

I have a Q and hate it. It's pretty cheap (mine was $80), but you get what you pay for.

You have to download a Windows Mobile 6 registry editor just to change the settings you want. The CPU's slow so it lags pretty often. Media player (both included and third party apps) suck for it. Mine randomly reboots sometimes, about once every two weeks, and sometimes I'll have trouble turning it back on. The battery life indicator shows 3 bars until it's almost dead, then quickly goes to 2, 1, then dies. Battery life lasts about 3 hours of talk time, and for at least 2 and a half of that it'll claim 3 out of 3 battery bars. You'll find youself often going into Task Manager and manually closing all background apps just to prevent the lag. There's also a lag in when a call is received and when the incoming call screen shows up, so if you get a call while sending a text message (which happens often to me) it'll deny the incoming call before you ever get a chance to know there's an incoming call.

I'm not sure what else Sprint has available right now, but get something higher up than the Q.

I got the Q last week, and I am having a lot of lag issues like that.Sometimes , I even had to take out the battery for shutting down the phone when it crashes...so if u better have the Q9c I suggest get it, I personally will change the phone in a couple of days, it is almost unbeareble, how buggy the phone is....and the battery life sucks badly, really bad...so get another phone not the q9.

Do you have to switch phones over the phone, or can I just go to the Sprint store to upgrade?

If you use the sero program you have to exchange over the phone, you can not exchange in store. They send you the new phone with next day just like when you got your first phone and you just have to mail back the original phone with its box (they give you a shipping label for ups so u don't have to pay anything.

My contract with Verizon ends in August. But I am tempted to switch over for this plan. I do have a question for the people that own PDA (more blackberry specific). Which plan did any of you get? And is the BIS (Blackberry Internet Service) really worth the $99 (simply everything plan)? Or am I best off with the "exclusive direct offer" (1250 min, $50) plan? I'm really new to the Blackberry thing and I know I will need a phone w/what they do.

I don't have a BB but everything I've read is expect to pay the extra $30 for the BIS ontop of what you would pay for SERO. Which is basically a redundancy since you already get unlimited data in your plan. The only plus that BB has is they connect to your work email account better?

what kind of email? yahoo/msn/google/aol ? I'm sure they all do. The 2 most popular phones it seems are the centro (wife has it very nice phone and simple to use. Press one button and it brings up all your email accounts) and the moto q9c (which i'm getting)

Don't get a Blackberry- a Treo does everything they do, and a Blackberry forces you to pay $30 extra a month.

I am going to change my Q for a Qc, any advise for a better phone than that, at around the same prices....I want to use the data capability of the phone to the fullest, and with the moto Q it is not as good as I hoped for web browsing , the Qc is an improvement, but I want to be sure, thanks in advance!

I didn't technically get a Treo but I got a Palm device (Centro, which seems to be a cousin of the Treo) and I've consistently been surprised by all of the stuff I can do with it so far. I use Gmail and they give you two separate programs you can use with it, plus you can always use the mobile web version. You can set it up so that a single button press takes you straight to your Inbox. You can refresh it manually or you can have it automatically retrieve mail in the background (which consumes a bit of battery power I believe).

You can do all of this while PocketTunes plays music in the background... using the side button to start and stop playback when your'e in a different application. Ha! I love this thing.

Yep this plan requires a 2 yr contract, but for the price, it's a no deal, I am paying 30$, 7 $ insurance, and 8$ for taxes+, totalling 45$ monthly for;\:

SERO F&F 500- $30.0
Plan Features:

* Sprint Fair & Flex
* Caller ID
* Adjustable Anytime Minutes
* Call Waiting
* Three-way Calling
* $30.00 Minimum Monthly Charge
* Voicemail
* Nationwide Long Distance Included
* Unlimited Night & Weekend Mins. Included
* Nights: M-Th 7PM-7AM Wknd: F 7PM-M 7AM
* Unlimited Mobile to Mobile (pcs to Pcs)

NOTE that it does not says unlimited data/web, but it is included in SERO, so for that price, if u dont use the phone that much, it is a great plan for a phone with unlimited web/data services.

Okay--I'll admit I didn't read all 11 pages, but will a SERO account work like a Family Plan (does Sprint even have Family Plans?) so that I could add someone to the $30/$50 SERO plan for like $10 or something for the additional line? --> Answer: No, it's only an individual plan.

Also, anyone know if you can transfer your current number to the SERO plan (I'm on a different carrier at the moment).

I am just using the phone primarily for surfing the net at work, and yes, the internet is surfable, but as I stated before the MOTO Q , is not as a good phone, and is buggy, I was thinking about getting a Qc but , just got off the phone with a sales rep, and he told me the MOGUL 6800 was a better phone than the MOTO Q, so I will change it for the mogul 6800, it seems it is better than the MOTO Q.And the speeds are good for the internet.

Of course you can transfer your number its called porting. What you do is, don't cancel your current carrier, sign up with sprint and tell them you need your number ported. within 24 hours your number will be on your new phone.

I think I will get this definately its so cheap for all the stuff I get. I'm gonna get the Palm Centro from what it looks like anyone else have it?I got the Palm Centro last week. It's my first "smart phone" so I can't really compare it to anything else, but I can definitely say that I'm loving it so far. Going from a Verizon phone (enV) to this is really a huge jump. Whereas Verizon is obsessed with having complete control over everything on your phone, the Palm just has a much more "open" feel to it.

- Web browsing works very well. Touch screen control combined with some menu keys make browsing pretty simple, and an accessible bookmark page really helps with navigation.

- The music player is nice, and it lets you play a bunch of Internet radio stations. The music will keep playing when you switch to other applications; at that point you can use the phone's side button to pause and resume playback. Very nice!

- Anytime you text someone, it'll show all the messages that have gone back and forth between you and that person. So you can easily scroll up to view the rest of the "conversation." It makes a series of texts look like an AIM chat. Think of it as being simliar to the "Wall-To-Wall" feature on FaceBook, if you're familiar with that.

- for some reason they put TWO email programs in there. "VersaMail" seems harder to configure but "Sprint Mobile Email" works great. I can jump to my Gmail inbox with a single button press.

- There are four shortcut buttons. One is always mapped to your list of Applications. The other three can be assigned 2 shortcuts each. You can also configure a shorcut for a long press of the phone's side button.

- Finally I gotta address the Palm Apps. If you just look around there's a TON of stuff that you can put on here. Sweet gaming apps too. I'm already able to play NES and GameBoy Color games on my Centro. Even more impressive IMO is the ScummVM emulator - this one lets you play old LucasArts adventure games! I couldn't believe my eyes when I was playing Day of the Tentacle and Sam & Max on my PHONE (with touch-screen controls!). Anyway look around and you'll find a TON of stuff. I wanna look into some custom alarm clock apps next.

So I just read through all 14 pages of this thread... And my mind is boggling. :drool:

Could I ask for a recap of all the extra coupon codes and savings you can get with Sero? Like the 50back and what not? And while I'm at it, could some one explain to me the referral program again? I know I read you could get something like $300 a year from it....

Also, which Sprint employee email address should I use?

And finally, could someone recommend me which phone to get? The features I'm interested in are:

NFL Mobile
I want to be able to surf the web and check my email(Gmail)
Built in camera
GPS
Bluetooth

I'm not really interested in texting, so a fancy keyboard phone is something I don't really need...

If someone could help me out, I'd really appreciate it. This plan sounds so awesome, but it'd be my first cell phone and cell phone plan, so I wanna be careful.

Thanks.

Sure, first you can't use the coupons when you sign up online, the website will automatically reject them. Also those codes are YMMV meaning some reps will put them in, others wont.

What you get for the $30 is
500 anytime minutes
nights are free after 7pm and weekends are free aswell
unlimited data (i.e instant messangers such as aim,yahoo,msn) and internet
unlimited text - to anyone on any network, doubt that means internationally though

and if you want there is $7 for insurance.

The referral program is very simple. Once you get your phone activated dial #733 and then follow the directions. It will ask for the sprint phone number that referred you and once you dial it in, your all set. Both parties get a $25 Visa gift credit card. Basically you can get up to 12 referrals a year for a total of $300

you can use savings@sprintemi.com or if you want a real one pm me.

From what you are looking for I would suggest looking into the moto q9c, mogul and the Touch. The palm phones do not have GPS and I think there is a hack for the mogul and touch to activate theirs. They all have the sprint tv with NFL channel, bluetooth and camera, though the Centro and 755p do not have flash.

I would suggest checking out cnet or youtube for user reviews, I found them really helpful.

If you have anymore questions don't be afraid to ask.

I remember that feeling when I got my Treo 680. I had many Palm Pilots in the past, but now, I had a phone with a palm pilot in it, it was awesome. I do love the way Palm handles text messages. Also, yes, the palm does have an 'open' feel to it, because it's not actually a phone, it's a palm pilot, so it's not bound by the rules of your company. You can do anything you want on it.

With the palm having all this, it's almost impossible to decide between it and the Rumor. The only thing I like about the rumor, is big buttons. But that's enough to make or break the deal. Meh, I get paid next Friday, I have til then to decide. :hot:

The Palm alarm is the one in "World Calendar," right? Do you have to reset the alarm every time, or can you set the time once and have it repeat every day of the week? Also from what I could tell, it only lets you set the time in 5-minute intervals. Unless I'm missing something or I'm just looking at the wrong app!

Heh, this alarm thing is the ONE area that seemed to be better when I was with Verizon. Of course I had to hack the filesystem to do it, but I was able to add an mp3 ringtone, then set an alarm to recur every weekday and use the mp3 ringtone as the alarm.

Palm has much better POTENTIAL when it comes to alarms but it looks like you have to pay up to maximize that potential. Looks like there's plenty of free options but I'll probably have to settle for default alarm sounds. Good to know I can get the ringtones all hooked up though!

The Op should put a guide for this in the first post, think I've answered this several times before.

Don't cancel your current plan yet. First order your plan and phone from sprint.
When you receive your phone and call to activate it, tell the CSR you need to port your old number to the new phone. Just make sure you have an old bill from your old account as they will need some info. Once that is done they will tell you "ok the port will take 24-72 hours" and you wait. You will get a text message saying the port was successful once its been done.

thanks, I'll definitely want to use that one.

The alarm has the ability to repeat itself. It's actually quite customizable. I have mine set to ring at 5:30 every weekday from the time I started school till the time I finished. You can even set it to not go off on holidays. You just have to get used to it. After that, it's a breeze.

damn, just figured out that the Centro doesn't work with my pricey bluetooth headset (Motorola S9). So do I just call regular Sprint service to switch phones? Or is there some secret hotline for SERO users? And is it really FREE to switch (well, I assume they charge you the price difference in phones, if there is any, but I mean other than that)?

If your really going to switch I advise you to have the sprint email address you used handy (or at least get anyone) When I did this I basically had to go through the process 2 times, 1 with the Indian's and then at the end she transfered me to an american and did the whole process again (thats who asked me about the email address)

The process is free, they ship the second phone next day just like the one you first received. When you get the phone you mail out your old phone with a UPS prepaid mailing address label that Sprint emails to you. And yes you pay the difference or get credit.

I guess if your definition of "killer app phone" is the Iphone clone, then ya. But both the palmOS and windows mobil based phones have a large catelog of 3rd party apps that allow you to customize your phone to your hearts desire. Heck you can get a Palm phone with the same interface as the Iphone using Iphone Immitator.

LOL. I owned a Windows Mobile phone, HTC Excalibur. It was the worst phone experience I've ever had. Windows Mobile is slow, you have to constantly use the task manager to close applications because it lets everything run in the background eating up the RAM.

Why would anybody WANT a RAZR? Those phones suck monkey ass. The only reason you see so many of them is because they're free.

The Katana sucks too. It's just like a RAZR only without the sleek style.

Between those two, I'd have to go with the RAZR. But personally, I'd try to find another phone.

Well I've only had my windows mobile phone for 2 days and already loving it. Is it as fast as the PalmOS? No. But thats ok, I've already done more tweaking with my phone than the palm I had for almost 30 days. To each his own I guess, I found the wm 6.1 phone to better fit my needs.

Im going to have to agree with others. If your getting this plan, getting these phones seems like you won't be using what you pay for to its full potential. I know you don't like the keyboard look, but have you tried it before? texting with a qwerty keyboard feels like such a jump over T9 and regular typing on a cellphone.

So I called the referral number, referred a few cags from this thread and for some of the numbers, the automated message I got said something along the lines of "the number you just dialed is a duplicate number that is currently being processed". Not sure how this is possible since it's the first time I referred it.

Any ideas? Is it possible the referral is only eligible to be referred x amount of times?

Also, I have some friends who are ready to jump on this plan, one of which though is really interested in the Instinct. Anyone know if it will be available immediately on the SERO site next week?

Haven't heard to many good things about the instinct coming to Sero.

I don't understand your problem with the referrals. Are you checking to see the status of those that you have referred? If so you do not need to put in their number, they just had to enter yours.

Did you check the site that shows you the status of your referrals? http://www.myecount.com/sprintstatus/

just enter your number and it will tell you the status of those that you have referred.

Keep in mind I'm a new Sprint customer and yep, checked the status site and some numbers were approved while others are still pending. I'm talking about when I dial #733 from my phone, follow the prompts and entering the number of the referral then receiving the message from my previous post.

lol, isn't peer pressure great? Seriously though, you have the right idea use that unlimited data to the max! With the Blackberry Pearl, unless you want to do some extra work to get a 3rd party web browser I would steer clear from blackberry's. You are suppose to pay $30 a month extra with blackberry's for their data plan (which you don't need as you already have unlimited data) so you'd have to get a 3rd party browser on the phone like opera. Just seems like to much hassle. The Centro is great, my wife has it and is very nice. Takes just a few days to get use to the small keyboard but once you get use to it you'll be fine.

Okay, quick question: I have selected my phone. It requires a mail in rebate to bring it down to $99 total. Problem is, on the rebate form, it says offer ends 6/14/08. So does that mean the rebate is over? or does it end AFTER today? Here's the rebate form:

They do this in case you don't pay your bill, then they can just take your deposit. You have a spending limit on your account of $150. Your bill can't go any higher than that. And while they don't give you cash back, just think of it this way: in one year, you'll go 4 months without needing to pay a phone bill. :D

I just switched to SERO from AT&T the last day of May. Everything bad you have heard about Sprint Customer Service is true, but I guess you get what you pay for. Anyways here was my experience if you are interested:

None of the coupon codes worked during checkout, but I emailed Ecare after I received my phone and they manually added SAVE50 without much fuss. It took less than 2 days from the time I placed my order to receive my phone. However it took 5 days for Sprint to actually port my number over from AT&T. I probably wasted 4 hours total on the phone with inept Sprint Customer Service reps, and nobody was very helpful with the porting issue. Everyday it was "Check back tomorrow". They did give me a temporary number, but it was a hassle carrying around 2 phones. Also Sprint did not honor my student discount right away. So I emailed ecare again, told them that I wanted a student discount, and told them that porting was taking way too long. A day later I got an email saying that I would get $10 off per month for the first 13 months. Initially none of the SprintTV channels worked, but after 2 weeks I finally receiving NFL network. CNN, Weather Channel, etc still do not work, but I read somewhere that Sprint is no longer offering those channels for free to SERO customers. Coverage is not as good as AT&T (I'm in LA), but I usually don't have problems unless I wander off to rural areas. I also got an email from Sprint in 10 days saying that they received my rebate form and that it is being processed.

I bought the Moto q9c. The Centro keyboard was too small, the Treo and Ace were $50 more. The BB's have better design (smaller but comfortable keyboards), but I just didn't want to deal with the Blackberry without the BB data pack. Overall I would say the phone is good not great. GPS (with Live Search) and keyboard are nice. Battery life is good for a smartphone due to the extended battery that you get with it. Unfortunately the phone response time does get slow at times. I am not sure if it is due to WM6 or the phone itself, but a quick reboot usually fixes things. Some people have complained about dust getting under the screen, so I bought a full body invisible shield for protection. Picture mail does not work out of the box (I think this a common Sprint thing), but there is a website that shows you how to enable it for free. Unfortunately this picture mail hack expires every 30 days.

Anyways in summary, the Sprint network coverage is good but not great. Be careful if you are not in a major city. Also customer service can be a nightmare, but emailing Ecare leads to quick results. In the end, I am paying $20/month for 500 min, free data, free text, and 7pm nights so what right do I have to complain?

I didn't know there was a student discount. Can someone explain that to me? $20 a month is insane.

SERO plan rules state that no corporate or student discounts can be applied. However a little persistance with ecare goes a long way. My university has a discount program with sprint for 20% off your bill. Instead of giving me 20% off a $30 bill ($6 x 24 mos = $144 in savings), they offered me $10 off for 13 months ($130 in savings).

First fill out http://sprint.p.delivery.net/m/p/nxt/ais/wdyw.asp?id12=NEXTEL_promo1_WhereDoYouWork?id9=SEM
Then check your school/corp email and fill out the next form.
The next day you should get an email saying your discount was ACCEPTED. However a few hours later you will get another email saying that your discount was DENIED b/c you are on the SERO plan. Then just email Ecare with a nice story about this discount is why you switched to sprint from X carrier in the first place. The next day I got an email giving me $10 off x 13 months. Your luck with ecare might vary, but they will give you some sort of deal with a little persistance.

So like I said earlier I used the savings@sprintmi.com (savings@sprintmi.com) and they ended up giving me a 200 minute basic plan despite what my invoice says. So, I called and tried to get my plan upgraded to the SERO 500 minute plan and they told me they would not be able to do it as savings@sprintmi.com (savings@sprintmi.com) is only used for viewing the SERO site and that I'd have to place a whole new order with them using a valid email and return my old stuff...

Suggestions? Thinking I'll just call sales. So I guess just avoid using the generic savings@sprintmi.com (savings@sprintmi.com) ! Not sure what other email to use from that list as it really all seems somewhat shady.

Maybe a stupid question here, but...

Can you get Sprint to change your phone number after you sign up for Sero? I don't really like the number they gave me. Doesn't really flow that well, lol.

I placed my order last night for the Moto q9c. Today I checked the status and it says it's backordered. When I look for that phone on the site, it doesn't even pull up anymore. I called, but they couldn't tell me anything more than what I had already read online - it's backordered.

Anyone have any clue how long it usually takes them to get a phone back in stock in this kind of situation?

homeland

Very strange. Maybe they are updating them all to WM 6.1. When you get it though pm me I have a couple of apps that really help the phone.

So I got my phone today, and I'm having problems browsing/anything to do with having to connect to the online for it. For instance:

I try to go on Sprint TV, and I get this:

"Error 75

System error. Sign in failed.
Please wait a moment and
try again. you may need to
go to [Settings/Power Vision]
and selet [Update Power Vision
Profile]. If this problem persists
you may need to contact Sprint.

Y'all got any ideas? I figure I should come here before "shudders" contacting Sprint customer service. A quick Googleing of "Error 75" brings up nothing but a list of Sprint phone errors with no details.

EDIT - Also, I've tried going to the Power Vision setting but.... I can't find it, lol.

Any help is appreciated.

I'm thinking about picking up SERO, as I spend about $25 a month with Virgin Mobile, and would love the unlimited texts. I've messed around a bit with some friend's LG Rumor's, and like the phone. I love the flip out QWERTY keyboard. And at $50, its a decent price.

I do have a a couple questions, if you guys don't mind answering, since it seems you guys know the phones a bit better.

How much better would the Centro by Palm be? I know it would have the Palm OS, rather than the LG one, but I do like the keyboard better in the Rumor.

The 8703e and the Samsung ACE, while looking nice, are a bit more than I want to spend, but would they be worth it?

Thanks for any help guys.

The LG Rumor is like Verizon's LG Env (they seem similiar with the rumor being abit inferior) I can tell you that the Rumor isn't even close to being in the same league as the Centro. YOu get so much more functionality with the centro. For instance, I was looking for a restraunts number, so I went online downloaded their .pdf menu, found what I wanted and clicked on their phone number they list on their website and the phone called the restraunt. Doubt you could do that with the LG. The Rumor is a phone, the Centro is a pocket pc.

I would suggest against getting a blackberry. Unless you know what your doing you have to pay an extra $30 for the extra BB service. Haven't heard much from the Ace, seems very similar to the q9c which seems very popular, and what I have.

Just like you I was also using Virgin Mobile, mainly for texting and email the Wildcard was a pretty good phone. Now after a good 2 weeks of using the Centro, I do not regret my choice at all. As already stated the Rumor is great for a phone and also for texting, but with the Sero plan might as well get a phone that's able to maximize the plan's potential.

Probably the only negative, be it temporary, is the size of the keyboard. It's more cramped comapred to the LG Rumor and the Wildcard, but I've already grown accustomed to it.

THe Centro is one of CNET's top 5 recommended smartphones for Sprint, if that helps anybody. I didn't go with it cuz I didn't want a big phone to carry around, and don't plan on doing much internet surfing on my phone.

Check out www.a1wireless.com for some free phone deals. also incidently walmart.com has like every phone for free after 2yr contract, i just saw yesterday.

I just got off the phone with the SERO line (which apparently they have). The only plan available for my area is one with 1000 minutes + extras (not the $30) a month. Area code 49504.

However, the sales rep asked me where I'd be using the plan. I notice on their website that Detroit has the plan I want. Would it be possible to play the system and say I'd use it in Detroit to get the right plan but have it be shipped to my house?

Frustrated :mad:

Grand Rapids, Mi is an affiliate market for Sprint. The SERO plan is only available to those in "corporate" markets. I am surprised they even had one plan available.

I guess that explains it. Not sure what affiliate market means though.

OK, but I am curious to know how the instinct compares to the mogul 6800, read a review and it seems the phone is not at all , that far ahead of the 6800, and the OS is not neither WM 6, or Palm OS, and that could be a problem, in itself.

What you do, is order as normal, porting your phone number. Your old phone number won't stop working until you get your new phone and activate it. That way you can use your old phone until your new one is delivered. Then, when the new one is activated, call your old company, and cancel the phone.

Currently I am stuck with helio for another year. At around $55 per month with limited data features I am wondering if I should just cancel early and eat the early termination fee. The sero plan seems like such a good deal and having unlimited texts and data is icing on the cake.

I wonder what I should do.

Unlimited data, for 30$ monthly, wont find that anywhere else...What are u waiting for...My mobile contract expired like a year ago, and I was waiting for the right plan to sign up again, and the SERO plan is the best plan out, if u dont use the phone much, I rarely use the phone, it is to be always in contact with wife and kids at school , other than that, I can live with 500 minutes, and nights and weekends free.The SERO plan is a no brainer IMHO.

Sorry guys I don't want to sift through the whole thread so im just going to ask now. My Cingular contract ends on July 13th. How would I go about doing this SERO plan and getting my number ported? Do I need to wait until the 13th when I can end my contract with AT&T or should I just sign up for SERO now (so ill have the phone before the 13th)? Thanks in advance..

You can do either, wait until your out of contract or order it before. Probably Just order it on July 9th (its a wensday) and you'll have your phone by that Friday. So when your crongrat runs out on that Sunday you'll be all set! order your sero service and phone from the sero website. When you get your phone, call to activate it and tell them you need to port your number (have your cingular bill at hand as you'll need some info) and within a few hours your number will be ported.

I have to confess, I've always gotten a phone w/ a contract, and never swapped phones until I got a new contract. How difficult is it to buy a phone "in the wild" (ebay, etc.) and swap service to it?

I really am considering just getting a phone that will end up being free after rebate right now, since I honestly don't need to spend the extra $$ right now anyway, and then getting something better later on.

After some research I am thinking I will go with the BlackBerry® Curve™ 8330. I want to be able to talk (obviously), surf the web, and use AIM (I can do this with the $30 plan right)? Any experiences with this phone? I like it because it is a smart phone but it still small and also has expansion for up to 8GB. Thanks again.

Edit: After looking I guess you can't get a Blackberry for the $30 plan. Any other suggestions for a phone that will do the above things I want to do? (I want to make sure I get the full keypad)

So, just called Sprint up, the red Centro (the one I ordered) is backordered, as is the black one. Course they have no idea when they will get more in stock.

I could get a different phone, and then switch it out at a Sprint store or something because of the 30 day thing right? Also, why the hell is it on the website to order if they don't have any? Fraken BS.

They are on backorder on the centro? so wierd, thats one of their more popular phone. Not sure about switching in store. Technically no, you can't but a couple of people have said they've done it in store before. I think its a big YMMV on that. Switching phones through mail isn't to bad though, as they ship the phone with next day delivery.

don't cancel... Helio is about to kick the bucket any time now. They're supposedly in talks to merge with Virgin Mobile, as soon as next week, and at that point Helio customers may or may not have service(..as well as a contract)

So,.. I'd say dont gamble the money when the end is probably close. I'm on Helio also.. and I'm banking on their collapse to switch to this.

I do have a question though... how do you have a limited data plan for 55 a month? you know for 65 a month you can get unlimited everything(except anytime minutes), right?

Awesome news. I am not surprised helio is going under. Not many people seem to know about it. Anyway, I have the $40 ala carte plan. Then you add 7 for insurance plus taxes and random amounts for texting and data. That is at least $55 per month sometimes more. I tried doing the all in 500 plan, but that is way too expensive when you add in the insurance and taxes.

This is absolutely ridiculous.

OK, last week, I placed an order for the Q9c and the $50/mo SERO plan. I received an email the next day saying it was backordered. I called to check on it to find out why & for how long, but no one could tell me any more than what the order status said - backordered. I tried calling 3 different times over the next week, and the third time, Monday, I got the lady to tell me why it was backordered. They were discontinuing that phone.

So she tried to transfer me to another dept, saying that I would have to pick a different phone. The transfer didn't work, but she had also given me a number so I called that & spoke to someone. Explained to them the situation - as best I could, since the lady was VERY hard to understand - and she starts doing...something. What exactly this lady did, I'm not sure. I do know it wasn't what she was *supposed* to have done. What she did was dark, an affront to nature. About mid-ways through her asking me questions, I tried asking her if she was placing a brand new order. She said yes - or at least, that's what I made out that she said. Since I had determined that my chances of her getting anything right in a order were slim to none, I asked if she could just cancel the original order (which she said she had done anyway) and let me place a new one online. She said yes, that would be fine, and told me goodbye.

This was the beginning of the end.

I waited to place the second order Tuesday morning, so I could settle on a new phone. Later that day, I received an email saying my order was on hold. I called to find out why, and was told that I had two accounts. I explained the situation to the lady, and she claimed she understood and would correct the issue. I didn't think much more about it.

Later that night, I get a call from Sprint. The lady on the other end sounds rather confused, and she starts asking me about the "number I had requested" and saying something about how this number already belonged to someone else, and was there a reason I had requested it, etc. I explained to her that I hadn't requested any number, didn't have a phone or service, and basically had no idea what she was talking about. I tried to explain my situation to her up to this point, and she pulls up my account - she says I have a credit for about $280 on my account.

Now I was really starting to get concerned. I pulled up my bank records online after hanging up with her, and sure enough, I see charges for the phone last week as well as the one I had just ordered.

About an hour later, someone else calls. She starts asking me the same kinds of questions about this number, and I kinda snapped. I told her that I had told the other lady I have no clue what they're talking, and all I know is that I've been charged twice for phones when I haven't received a single one yet. I tell her I'm pretty close to canceling it all and going with someone else at this point. She apologizes and tells me she's going to look into the issue, and will call me back in about 30 minutes.

She does as she says - her name is Maria, and she's the only sane person I have spoken to yet at Sprint. She gets all the details of the problem up to this point, and fills me in on the ones I'm not aware of. Apparently, somehow someone else's cell # had gotten on my account - as in another active number. So not only is she working to straighten out my 2-account problem, but she's trying to extract this line from my account. To do this, she has to call me back several times, but at least she's always very friendly and does as she says.

At about 9:00 last night she calls back and we really start working on the main problem. She has to transfer me all around Sprint, but she stays on the line the entire time as well. She has to put me on hold periodically, but she always puts me on "silent hold" so there's no hold music & I can still hear the third person. We go from dept. to dept., and every time the new person is completely lost. I stopped explaining the situation and just let Maria do it, since she knew it better than I did at this point plus she could throw in the Sprint technical jargon to them. Sometimes the person we dealt with would seem to sorta understand, sometimes they would be completely lost, and on at least one occassion they were extremely rude. Finally, Maria told me that someone should be able to complete the order at this point, so we transferred one last time (hoping each time this would be the leap home... :P ).

I got on the phone with a sales lady, but Maria had put herself on hold again. So I tell the sales lady we just need someone to complete the order at this point. She says ok, that doesn't look like a problem, and she does it. I'm pretty leery, so I ask her a couple of times if she's sure it's all squared away now, and she says "yes." She says goodbye, but I don't hang up - I wait for Maria to return from her hold. When she does, I tell her what has happened. She pulls up the order to make sure it was done correctly, but it turns out the lady somehow sent the original order back through - the one with the phone they no longer carry.

Maria tries to get her back on the line to fix it, but it's just after 10:00 now my time (11:00 Eastern, which is when that dept. closes) and she can't reach her. I can tell she's about as frustrated as I am - she says she promises she will fix this tomorrow, and she will call me around 6:00 (this afternoon). I tell her ok and thank her for her help.

Just a few minutes ago I got another phone call from a random Sprint lackey. The lady asks for my account verification info, in broken English, then proceeds to tell me that my order is on hold because I already have an existing account. I cut her off, tell her that I stayed on hold for over an hour the night before fighting the issue. I tell her that someone by the name of Maria is working on the problem, and that if she can't resolve it I'm canceling everything I have with them & going with another carrier.

It's rare to find a company this completely incompetent - I'm starting to think it might be worth the extra $$/mo to use a carrier that isn't staffed by trained monkeys.

Hopefully since it is a popular phone, it won't take long to get back in stock. I wouldn't mind going with the LG Rumor, but I love the idea of the touch screen and internet.

And I can't really spend much more for a different phone either.

if you are planing on getting the impulse you need to sign up for the all in one 99 dollar plan

an alternative for families is the "talk message data share" plan. for $129.99 you get everything (on two pnones) except for 1500 anytime mins. Also you can apply a company discount to this one. Also its $20 dollars a month for each additional phone on the plan.

I know many will go for the $30 dollar plan but I just wanted to let the few of the rest of us know a good deal.

It was mentioned in the very first post.

SERO stands for Sprint Employee Referral Offer. Here's what you get

* Unlimited Text Messaging
* Unlimited Nights & Weekends starting at 7pm
* Domestic long distance
* Unlimited Mobile to Mobile
* Unlimited Web/Data Access
* Unlimited Picture Mail (with compatible devices)

500 anytime minutes for $30 / month
1250 anytime minutes for $50 / month

I think that domestic long distance refers to the continental U.S. but I am not sure. Overseas is probably extra.

Just for a follow-up:

Maria turned out to not be so great after all, because she never called me back. I waited around the house last night for a couple of hours around the time she said she would call, and nothing. I know, I probably should have gotten her number or a way to contact her, but I was so ready to get off the phone the night before I didn't think about it.

So after I gave up waiting on her & went to leave, I noticed there was a box outside my door. Guess what? It's the Q9c, that they told me was discontinued. But there's no phone number in it - if you check to see what the number is, it starts with 6 zeros - I have a feeling that's not a valid number. ;)

I didn't want to fight with them last night, so I didn't call them until this morning. The first guy I get on the phone tells me that since the order with the Q9c was canceled, that I'll have to send that phone back to them & take the Centro - they can't activate it. He then says something like "So is that ok?" and after a brief pause, I replied "No - that's not OK."

I then explained to him that the Q9c was the phone I wanted in the first place, I didn't *want* the Centro, and the only reason I ordered it was because they told me I couldn't get the Q9c - which was obviously a lie, since I was holding it in my hands (didn't actually say that last part, but...). So he transfers me to someone else, who transfered me to someone else, etc. Finally got this one lady that said that I will be able to use the phone, but not until my # transfers completes on July 1 (I don't think I ever got into that part of the story, but when I placed the original order I requested that my current phone # be transfered over. For some reason, they can't complete that until the first.) I told her that was fine, but I wanted to make sure I wasn't charged for the second phone & an additional line. So after another couple of transfers, I got someone to cancel the second order.

Or so they claimed.

So now it's just a wait-and-see situation. On the plus side, the Q9c is VERY cool (from what I can tell without actually being able to place a call/go online/etc.).

I signed up for this plan a couple of days ago using the email in the first post, and I got an email saying that I need to call them to finish my order. I called and the lady said that it was weird I had to call because my order was already processed and that there was no limit to my account, and that they didn't need a deposit. Then I check my credit card statement, and there is an extra $215.49 charge.

So I went into a chatroom with them today, and the lady said it was because they initially took a deposit (without notifying me), but they later cancelled it and had the money credited to my account. Then I asked about the coupon, and after a while she finally accepted it, and even made it $70 instead of $50. So everything is looking good so far, after an initial hassle.

Is it possible to buy a phone from somewhere other then Sprint, after you've purchased Sero, and get the new phone on Sero? How are you guys liking the Centro? I think I'm going to get one, possibly upgrading to the new one in a few weeks (I have 30 days to change, right?).

I'm thinking of getting the m520 until the new palm gets released.

Got my Centro today! Anyone know of a cheap place to pick up a case and car charger for it? Also just to make sure.. since I have unlimited data I can access everything right? (including Sprint TV and Google Maps)??

Well, I don't think the sprint tv works, because it asks me for a charge before being able to view channels, but I haven't gotten too deep in it. Pretty much everything else is free, unless noted before you use an app or download something.

For all those on the edge about the Centro: Do it. You make use of the unlimited features. Connecting and getting e-mail, having the web, etc. is all very kick ass.

The only downside is the keyboard is a bit cramped, which everyone says, but I'm getting used to it, and its cheaper than the other ones you can buy.

If it wasn't for some trouble getting my number ported and on my phone, I'd say this was a very very good switch.

Thanks everyone!!!

Sprint TV works fine on my Centro. Theres about 15 free channels. The Centro is well worth it. I've been using the web, AIM, and email all the time since I've gotten it. And don;t forget the emulators! Playing Captain America and the Avengers is awesome on this thing.

So far I would recommend the phone! I haven't tried the emulators yet though (waiting on Buy.com to send my 2 GB card). The reception isn't as good as AT&T but other than that, no complaints. How often are you guys having to charge this thing? (the centro)

I ordered it yesterday. Should get here soon, I would think. Luckily, I never call anyone, and just use it as a portable internet device. Can't wait!

That video just made me want to switch the phone i just bought with a centro. The only think i didn't like about the centro was the palm OS.

I get a University discount too from school, is this an either/or thing? I could get an even bigger discount if I'm allowed to use my University discount. I really need a phone, so this looks really sweet.

Talked to someone in India about switching my number. Wasn't a complete nightmare, like others have had. Hard to understand, though.

Question for those of you who've gone through the rebate process!

I'm planning on ordering a Centro in the next day or two. I am currently living in Japan, but will be back in America by the end of the month (the 29th, to be exact). To get in on the rebate offer, I know the phone needs to be activated and the rebate postmarked by the 26th. Do you think that the activation and rebate are something that could be handled by a mostly-technologically-illeterate-but-good-at-following-directions mother? Are instructions provided, and how much of a hassle is it?

Activation is VERY easy. You turn on the phone and when you try to make a call it is automatically routed to sprint. They will ask for basic info (your name, address, pin #) and then your good to go.

Just a heads up. Looks like this deal is coming to a close come July 10th. If you want to get on it you'd better sign up soon to get Grandfathered in!!!!

Guess I'm lucky to have just gotten in. I'll shoot you my number for a referral as soon as I get my phone.

Can we all do referrals with each other? Or does that not work....?

I have a question before i sign up.
I am currently with verizon so how long would it take to cancel my subscription and have that number ported to my sprint phone?

What you do, is order as normal, porting your phone number. Your old phone number won't stop working until you get your new phone and activate it. That way you can use your old phone until your new one is delivered. Then, when the new one is activated, call your old company, and cancel the phone.

I just found this post. So I should just go ahead and order the phone and sero plan and call in to cancel my Verizon account when i get the new sprint phone?

I would call verizon tell them that you plan on porting your number and canceling your contract. Just specify that when the number is ported that is when you are canceling the contract.

Also those looking at the Iphone imitator, the developer has created a newer version TouchLauncher, here's the link http://ahsirg.kvplab.com/dp/?q=node/2 looks like it costs $7

Thanks for the info homeland I just did a little research after reading that. This info comes from user "Next Steps" on HowardForums:

Here is the dirt on the new SERO plans

Launch Date is 7/10/08.

SERO is gone. In its place is Everything Plus. Its basically the same as SERO except it includes text and GPS Navigation in the plan. Thats the good news, the bad news the pricing is going up. Way up.

Everything Plus 500 is going to be $59.99
Everything Plus 1000 is going to be $79.99
Simply Everything for $99.99 will still be an option

The $50 for 300 and $50 for 1250 will expire on 7/10. Those customers still on it will be grandfathered and remain on the plans, but all new SERO activations will be on these new Everything Plus plans.

As others have said, I'm also stoked to have gotten in on this plan before the change, and everyone holding off for more phone options or are on the fence should get in now!

I just bit on this a couple days ago. So glad I got on the bandwagon before it switched over.

Just to be even more of a cheap ass, are there any coupons still available to get that 50$ credit off of your bill?

I know its against the OP rules, but since this deal is on a very short time leash and about to expire I think that would qualify as extenuating circumstances, so I'm wondering if anyone can PM me with a referral number. I'll do it for whoever sends me one first. I PM'ed the OP to no response.

I constantly miss good deals and I know I'll be kicking myself if I don't get a cell phone with this cheap of a price right now, and I really need one. I'm still kinda kicking myself over missing that 35% cashback deal right when it started. If anyone can help, please PM me, it would be greatly appreciated.
