View Full Version : Is it true that the new AVG doesn't have an email scanner that lasts more than 30day?

I'm thinking of updating to the new AVG (I believe 8.0) on one computer and setting it up on another, but I've read that the email scanner is only good for 30 days now and to stay with 7.5. Is this true? I've heard several reports from users saying yes, some saying no, and one review site stating that these were all just rumors, so I'm pretty confused. I've kept 7.5 and it works great, but I just want to know if I should put on 7.5 on the other computer or go straight ahead with the current AVG.
Also, before anyone starts, I know that if you get your email from Yahoo or Google your email is prescanned, but I need the email scanner for other things.

One thing I've noticed with the new AVG is that the Link protection slows Firefox down immensely. I've disabled it in the Add-Ons menu and it sped things back up.

Yeah, that was annoying as hell... and I'm not sure I like this new version, it took 46 minutes to scan my computer on fast scan whereas the old version took 32 minutes at regular speed.

The #1 reason this version is better: The silent updating. Just getting rid of that "Updates installed Successfully" popup that times out after 30 secs is worth it.

Thanks WSB. I tried searching on their site and through google, but nothing was conclusive. Everything seemed to conflict with each other.
