I will be using this for 5.1 surround sound with an upscaling DVD player (http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-DV-400V-K-Multi-Format-Upscaling-Player/dp/B000Q6CWA4/ref=wl_it_dp?ie=UTF8&coliid=I3P9TYXOZQELME&colid=15L8YRH5FUVEQ) and my Sharp Aquos 52" LCD TV. I will also use it with my 360, Wii, and HD cable box.
The two that I have been looking at are:
Onyo TX-SR605 7.1
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000OBLARC/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
Pioneer VSX-918V-K 5.1
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8713804&productCategoryId=abcat0202003&type=product&id=1199496527924
I've chosen both of these because they have HDMI ports that output video as well as audio, and have newer technology such as DTS, Pro Logic IIx, etc. I wasn't sure about the upconverting feature of the Onkyo, since I will be using it with an upconverting DVD player.... Is it useful/ does it really improve image quality? Are there any other features (besides 7.1, which I won't be using) that the Onkyo has that make it better than the Pioneer that I am missing?
Which receiver do you think is best for my setup? Thanks in advance for your help.
