Your best bet is to tap into the vast aquifer of PS2 titles (if your PS3 has backwards compatibility, that is).

Other than that, the only turn-based standard RPG is Enchanted Arms. Other games that can be lumped into the genre include Folklore, Oblivion, and Marvel Ultimate Alliance.

The 360 has a MUCH STRONGER RPG catelog than the PS3 (I have both systems.)

On the 360:
Mass Effect
Oblivion
Marvel Ultimate Alliance
Lost Odyssey
Blue Dragon
Eternal Sonata

Later this year you get on the 360
Fable 2
Fallout 3

You may want to reconsider your choice in getting a PS3. If you do get a PS3, you need to at least get the 80GB system (and preferably the 60GB discontinued one) so you have at least some backwards compatibility so you can play PS2 games.

PS2 RPG lineup is too numerous to mention, from the Sega Genesis Collection (Phantasy Star II-IV and Sword of Vermillion) to Persona 3 FES.

Also from the later this year you can get on the 360 add Tales of Vesperia thats a big one.

If you want an RPG right now, 360, PSP, or DS would be the way to go for this gen, PS2 for last-gen. PS3 and Wii do have some RPG's coming down the pipeline though, namely the Final Fantasy XIII games(PS3), Disgaea 3(PS3), and Tales of Symphonia Radiant Mythology(wii)

I could have sworn I read somewhere that Tales will hit the PS3 as well...

There is a Tales game in development for the PS3, but it's not Vesperia unless they pull a Eternal Sonata - that is, if the PS3 incarnation of Eternal Sonata ever sees daylight.

Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Mass Effect and Fable 2 are X360 exclusives. Rest are multiplatform (means they're also on the PS3). Just wanted to clarify.

If we were to take future titles into account I'd say PS3 has a stronger lineup. Valkyrie Chronicles, Disgaea 3, Final Fantasy XIII (and Versus?) and White Knight Chronicles are all PS3 exclusives. Also I think there was some mention of a major collaboration between 5 companies/studios to make an RPG title for the PS3 (think it was only a rumor though).

Of course I agree with most of you. Most of the really great RPGs are on the PS2. If you really want to have a next-gen RPG experience RIGHT now. I would suggest a X360.

get a backwards compat PS3... the PS2 has awesome RPGs and that should keep you busy for a LOOOOONG time, while the PS3 builds its line up.

The PS3 is the strong seller in Japan, and always will be... and where do most good RPGs originate? (or most RPGs period?)...Japan.

thanx you guys, I was hoping there was at least a handful of decent/cheap ones I could grab. My PS2 library is pretty huge with a good amount of RPG's (basically every Square/Enix game) I've had two roomates in the past with 360's so I definatly got a taste of what they have to offer.....thanks again though

I know that this isn't quite what you are looking for, but for $30.00 Persona 3: FES is treating me extremely well.
