Children of Men. Keep it, awesome film. Plus it has outstanding PQ and AQ. And one of the most intense shootouts on film(all in one take, only like 1 or 2 cuts) it like 12mins long. It was the reason I bought an HD-DVD player.
I so want to jump on this deal. But I can't. Uni titles with MA tracks are too mesmerizing.

Picked up
Knocked Up
The Sting
The Kingdom
The Mummy
Cinderella Man
for about 46 bucks.
Was thinking about adding Casino and Carlito's Way but decided against it. Casino feels too much like Goodfellas and Al Pacino overacts in most of his movies, Carlito's Way is probably no different.

Wow, thanks a ton, edzbsu!
After a ton of refreshing and keeping my fingers crossed during the checkout process, I grabbed The Deer Hunter, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Children of Men, The Big Lebowski, Casino, 12 Monkeys and Serenity. Shipping's pretty steep, but it's still well worth it, I'd say.
To Pyloric and anyone else looking for Serenity or other titles that seem to be gone, I just searched for Serenity and the $5.99 HD-DVD listing came up. It didn't have a cover image, but it showed as in stock.

bigdaddybruce44
05-22-2008, 05:34 AM
The shipping price was really crap and nearly turned me off, but Children of Men and Fast Times were enough to keep me. They are still like $18 on Amazon. So, for about $16 more, I got 4 more movies. Not too bad.
geeknhard
05-22-2008, 05:41 AM
I trimmed down the fat & got 4 Combos which I don't think you're gonna see much cheaper than this. Hopefully Amazon or DeepDiscount has some big blowout & I can pick up the ones I passed on for this price, but with their cheap shipping.

They were always on ebay. More than likely they simply could not keep up with the demand, and probably took the site down to catch-up on order fulfilment. I managed to put my order in for 17 titles at .ca site before it crashed too. This site is getting hammered, especially since the US site is down. The ad is posted at Slick Deals, AVS Forum and HDD as well, so you can imagine the number of orders they getting.
You can try calling them as well and see if you can place an order over the phone. Try calling information for their #. They are located in Plattsburgh, NY.

Not necessarily, it just says "For HD DVD Deals, you may also visit our eBay Store until the issue is resolved." That doesn't mean they won't still be available once they get their site fixed.
Screw the Ebay thing though, shipping is higher (although they do combine...for $2 per extra item) and the buy it now price is higher.

I just got an HD DVD player yesterday and am looking for good HDDVD deals. Is this the best type of deal so far? I've already gotten King Kong (came w/the 360 add on drive) and Jarhead for $5 at Target (As Is, they may have done this to all HDDVDs there as all the HDDVDs the store had before were gone except for this one) and bc of the end of HDDVD I'm really looking to get some cheap movies because I'll probably get them again on BR when I can get deals on them (which will be a while). I see some good ones in this sale like the Bournes, Jerk and Happy Gilmore, Half Baked, Fletch and more, but I'm wondering if those who have been in the HDDVD realm longer than myself think this is about as good as it's gonna get. Is there a comprehensive site to find out about HDDVD quality to find out about transfer goofs or bare bones dvds and the like?

Even with the crappy shipping, this was still the best deal I have seen so far, if you're in the market for the right movies. As I mentioned earlier, Children of Men and Fast Times alone made this deal worthwhile for me. They are both $18 at Amazon and DeepDiscount.
Also, I haven't seen HD-DVDs at a B&M in awhile. Most places cleared them out or simply took them off the shelves. So, I have been waiting for some site to have a decent clearance.

In their defense, that's how the auctions were before the site went down. I checked them out while the site was up but being bombarded, hoping to get a deal, but obviously the $8 and shipping was not any good, so I passed. Then, I was finally able to get through.

After all this time I was able to get in a order. However shipping killed it for me I know it works out to about 10 bucks a disk but I can't pull the trigger. Sorry but it would not cost 21.00 to ship 7 hd dvds. And yes if they just charged say 8-9 bucks then only 8 for shipping I would have bought some. Good prices no doubt just not worth it IMO.

Exactly. Anywhere that doesn't stack shipping charges and group them into quantity or weight categories I won't go near. I'm not paying 50% of each DVD to ship it.

You can look at it that way or look at it as less than $10 for HD-DVD movies that will be twice as much on blu-ray. This is as close to a fire sale as I think we will see. If there is something you really want, get it now before supplies dry up.

Off the Canadian site I picked up Bourne Identity, Bourne Ultimatum, Children of Men, and The Kingdom. Total was $23.96 and $37.41 with shipping. Not to bad I must say. Beats the crap out their eBay prices.

I see that point but my thing is why add back to the price with shipping. All of know that it would cost less then 10 bucks to ship 6 disc. Now even if you add in the fact they have to have the labor to get it ready I'm cool with that but still 10 bucks max.

They emailed the order form, but have been unresponsive enough that I just gave up and ordered from the Canadian site. It's too bad the US site isn't working; they're right across the lake from me, so it would probably only take a day or so to get here.
I wanted to pick up The Sting, but it won't let me add it to the cart, so in the end I went for The Mummy, The Mummy Returns, 12 Monkeys, and Land of the Dead.
GogoTheMimic

Got The Deer Hunter, Elizabeth, Dawn of the Dead (2004), Land of the Dead, Streets of Fire, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. and Being John Malkovich for $58.88 shipped. That's $8.41 ea. Considering I paid $7.95 (incl. tax) plus gas and wear and tear during the Hollywood blowout, this is close enough for government work.
For grins, I went and put together the same order at Deep Discount and it would've been $92.25. Zoiks!

Damn it...was gonna try to hold out till next month before I buy anymore movies but just couldn't pass up on this offer. Bought 11 movies, with shipping was just over $8 bucks each. I love buying HD-DVD's for that cheap.
shrike4242
05-24-2008, 11:59 PM
Ouch shipping on 8 movies is $28magiic, it's bad when you're saying it's painful shipping, and it's in the same county.
I scored 11 movies, and it was a little less than $9 shipped per movie. Went back and forth a few times with it, and yes, the shipping charge is very painful. Still, they were some of the cheapest HD-DVD's I could find, and had I not bought a number of them previously through Amazon.com and Best Buy B1G1's, I probably would have bought easily twice as many more.
One more thing. The CA site will display prices in Canadian dollars by default, though there's a drop-down to change it to US dollars. In that case, the movies on the .CA site are $6.06 each.
It also looks like they made a quick new mini-site for the HD-DVD sale, which works quite well at the moment.

I wonder how many sales they're losing because the people lured in by the $6 HD DVDs flip out when they see the shipping will average ~$2.50 a disc? If they were charging $9 ea. with "FREE SHIPPING", I'd wager not a peep of discontent would be heard.
I bought 7 discs and while $42 was the disc price, the $17 in shipping startled me until I divided the per-disc charge out. If they charged $8 ea. and a buck for shipping, it'd be more than the original price, but they'd sell more.
A study was done that revealed that people would by more of a product when it was 3/$1 (33 cents ea.) than when it was a quarter. People would pay more for less gladly.

Totally different concept. A: 3/$1 makes stupid people feel like they're getting a deal, since most people, in my experience, inherently suck at basic math. B: They are compelled to buy the 3 items to get the "deal", even though most places would just charge the divided per-item price for 1. If an item has a single unit price, people will just buy what they need.

Hey, it's kinda fixed! We're not all sharing the same shopping cast now. Might have to bite.
One question: Don't have Blu-Ray, but I've noticed, in older Universal HDDVDs especially (most of what's available here), that the transfer on most older movies is a little on the crap side. With a shipping gouge like this, I'm wondering if I should wait for the BR?

If the titles ever actually arrive on Blu-ray expect them to be a carbon copy of the HD DVD. Universal has no real plans of remastering titles unless they are very bad (Traffic) considering how poorly catalog titles sell on both formats. Spending $10-20k to remaster a film for it to sell 3-4k a month is not a smart thing to do. Out of sheer luck Universal is re-releasing The Mummy's on BD that have been re-done, but this would have happened regardless if HD DVD was still around (to tie-in with the new Mummy 3).
Short answer, don't expect any of the titles to be re-done to look better. They won't. Its not worth it especially for a format (BD) that is selling less then 1% of DVD.

I went ahead and just did BIN's on Ebay. I spent $2 more than their normal site, but I really didn't wanna pass up on getting 5 dvds for less than $10, which is what it came out to. Also, if you buy stuff from them on Ebay, they link you to their secured payment on their site. Unfortunately it would only allow me to pay with a money order or Paypal and if you do Paypal, you can't change your funding options which is kind of weird. Luckily I had money already in my Paypal since I wanted to use my credit card.

For a season 1 HD-DVD boxed set, $30 is AWESOME and it's well worth it just because Hereos is a great show.

But Guyver, despite the s&h, you're still technically getting a good overall price per disc.

I agree with Guyver, granted price per disc after shipping is fine. My issue was they are padding cost by adding to shipping.
Guyver: I didnt order on the site becuse of shipping cost, but I did an e-mail order when the site was down. When they sent me the invoice shipping was 7 bucks less. Also this was on 6 disc.

Mine came today, half of them had French and English on the cover and said "FOR SALE ONLY IN CANADA" on the seal stickers. Oh well, they were cheap enough I'll ignore the multi language crap on the spines lol

English/French:
Children of Men
Dawn of the Dead
The War
English:
Fast Times
Field of Dreams
Red Dragon
It's too bad that they raised the prices on a lot of the movies. I didn't want to make a huge order, never having dealt with these folks before. My experience was pretty positive, though, so I would like to buy more, if they drop the prices back down on some of the titles I want.

It took their customer service some time to get back to me via e-mail, as well. I went on their live chat and got my question answered quickly.
Keep in mind it is an international order (they are based in Canada), so it could get delayed a bit. In an e-mail they sent me, they said to allow for up to 14 days between shipment and delivery.

Enjoy the Mummy movies. I picked them up for about $10 each last month. They don't have the highest PQ rating, but I still think they looked great.

It seems like the standard HD DVDs are all Canadian releases while the combo format ones are normal US releases with a Canadian Home Video Rating sticker on the plastic.

Same here. Never got any shipping confirmation. I e-mailed them, but didn't get an answer. Went on their live chat, though, and the girl said the stuff shipped. Got mine Friday.

Both my Canadian and US order arrived today (along with my Woot! orders so the Mailman came with his arms packed). Some of them have actual French writing on them (doesn't bother me), and some are in all English but have a French sticker on the cellophane wrap.

According to deepdiscount.com and high-def digest, the combo disc is in Chinese with English subtitles:
http://hddvd.highdefdigest.com/503/fearless.html
http://www.deepdiscount.com/viewproduct.htm?productId=7256057
With the 20% off, it would come to $9.58 shipped.

GRRRR! I got a notification via email the other day saying they had a problem with my order. Something about due to high demand that one of my films I requested wasn't in stock and they held the entire order until I figured out what I wanted... Ah well, time to swap the one that they don't have with one I want

Got my 7 discs last week (3 Eng Only, 4 Dual Lang.) My only gripe for Dual Lang is the spine titles, as the french is written in the opposite direction like the UK Discs.
English Only:
Accepted
Ray
The Scorpion King
Dual Language:
Children of Men
MallRats
Serenity (Spine only says Serenity at least)
Being John Malkovich
