I have an issue with my computer, although difficult to pinpoint exact problem.

Computer at boot has corrupted graphics, as in mispelled words as well as symbols inserted, llines/colors that appear during boot-up and even inside
configuration panel of the BIOS.

I cannot get past the loading screen of WIndopw XP, after that the monitor just shuts down by itself.

Since I do not have an on-board graphic card, I am unable to test the card itself, which is a GeForce 6600GT with latest Forceware drivers and DX9.

Current mobo is an Asus A7N8X Deluxe, powered by Athlon XP+ 2800 Barton and 1GB Dual Channel RAM PC 3200.

IS my motherboard screwing up and nearing its death or the graphic card itself?

Based on my experience and your description, I would say the video card failed. But unfortunately you never really know until you swap in another card.

Never heard of that happening. You didn't flash the bios lately right?

Very likely the video card has failed. Like Richard said, you may need another AGP video card to test.

Edit*

I too have a failing video card; my EVGA 7900GT KO produces dots and those white text in boot up become 'colored'. My friend (who works as a tech at XFX) says the card is fried due to factory OC'ing higher than the card's quality allows. Thus killing the card early:
