I bought the $19 trendnet nic on amazon and it's crap (even after updating the FW.) it looks like all the others on amazon are rated somewhat low, so it's difficult to tell if any of these are good.
can someone recommend a good desktop wi-fi nic?

What's the bandwidth? I'm guessing it's not 16x... probably 1x or 4x?

1x.
Is that the problem with this thing? I'm going to give in and go to Best Buy later to get a new one-- should I go for 16x?

Its really hard to trust ratings on wireless devices. For every decent review you get some moron saying it sucks because he can't get signal through some 8 inch concrete wall. Just go with a decent brand, and try to keep all your wireless equipment uniform. If you have a netgear router, try and get a netgear NIC.

No, I just wondering what to look for. And I can't find much...
Does it have to be a PIC-e card? I have a USB2 external wireless adapter and never had any trouble with it. There aren't too many PCI-e NIC cards, most of them are PCI and USB2 format.
Here's the one I have, BTW. Our router is the basement and my computer is on the second floor... and I still get 4 bars with it.
