Great, although they raised their shipping prices to Canada so it's not as hot for us as it has been.
Still probably going to make a $100+ order

Hey CheapyD, does that referral link in the "Shop" button at the top of each CAG page work correctly? It still says Deep Discount DVD, so I don't know if it's been updated ever since they changed their name to Deep Discount. Just trying to make sure you get the referral monies, CheapyD.
This doesn't work for Bluray movies, does it?

It usually works with everything on the site with the exception of pre-orders. Sometimes they jack up the prices on certain movies / box sets though prior to the sale.
Sale doesn't start until June 6th.

Not going to be spending that much this year on this sale, but I'll pick up a few Criterions, and maybe some boxsets I've been eyeing for awhile. Hopefully they don't cancel my order behind my back without telling me or give me other issues. Be sure to watch prices, last year I remember they jacked up prices quite a bit on certain items that actually took away from the deal. Also, Cheapy, please put the date in the title.

This is good advice. I always wait a few days to see if anyone will match the 20% off. DVD Planet usually does and they end up way cheaper, at least for Criterions.

I guess this is good for DVDs. Even with the discount WHV and Amazon are better for BD titles.
Amazon is running its summer BD thing during this time. I bet you they will lose some customers that buy HD exclusively now(DD not Amazon).

Will probably just buy Planet Earth - The Complete BBC Series (my first BR) since I've been looking for something worthwhile to buy and show off. It'll also be a great b-day gift for my gf, who is enamored with nature and animals.
Nevertheless, most of the BRs are still too expensive and the ones that are cheap are either crappy movies (IMO) or lack features compared to their dvd counterparts.

I can't get the page to load with Firefox. It sits at "Loading...". Could be the browser blocking some javascript.
I tried it in IE, but then it just redirects to deepdiscount.com, without the referral ID in the URL. Is that correct?
I mean, if folks are going to be dropping $100, I just want to make sure you get the credits.
I guess the third option is that "DDAF" is the CAG code and you always get credit when we use that code. Maybe that's it?

Crap...there are several Blu-rays I want that come out on June 3rd, but DeepDiscount will probably jack up the price by then, minimizing the total discount. I don't want to risk it, so I'll play it safe and stick with my pre-order through Amazon. During the sale period, there are only 2 new Blu-ray releases on my wish list...bummer. I may pick up some catalog titles, as well, but I really would have gotten much more use out of this sale if it was in May or July. Not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but still...

Even with 20% off Blu-rays are still cheaper when BB/Amazon/etc. do sales like 2/$30. There was a time when the DD sale was cause for great celebration and spending. Not anymore.

Unless your tax rate is less than 6%, it would be cheaper on DD (free shipping, ya know). Plus, who knows when Target will put it on sale again. Might be better to pick it up from DD.
I'll probably be spending too much over the next couple weeks. I'm looking at $400+ for this sale.

I did the math wrong - it works out to $123.98 ($154.98-20%/31.00) shipped, unless Deep Discount charges tax to customers living in CA. Our local tax is 7.75%, which would make it $117.xx if Target had it on sale at $109. Only a $5 difference, it seems.

I'm aiming for a $100 budget. Not sure what I want though. My thoughts are...
Pokemon Season 1 Set 2 (so I can get rid of my single dvds and gain some space)
Sabrina the teenage Witch season 2
Melancholy of Hizuari vol. 3 and 4
2 different scooby doo films that are like 7 or 8.
full house season 7
May or may not kick the SD films and buy home improvements final season.

Obviously from a collectors standpoint the singles are much better than a value boxset....maybe even to a person who does watch extras on a disc....as for me though, out of the roughly 1,000 dvds I've watched I've probably hit the "extras" option on a dvd about 20 times total;so even if there are not extra features (although I'm not saying there isn't) it wouldn't bother me...I just want the episodes....

IIRC some years it's gone up in the late evening the night before-- like even before midnight EST (although not a whole lot, maybe 1-2 hours early). No promises, obviously, but definitely keep an eye out.
Best way to do it is load up a wish list NOW so as soon as it goes live you can throw everything in a cart and check out, as the site gets hammered/slow very quickly and browsing is painful.

Anyhow, as a general rule, you pay sales tax if the place you're ordering from has a pyshical location in your state (meaning they have a business license/sales revenue to report to said state.) Don't quote me on that, I'm going from memory and I just woke up, so...

And I say crappier box just because in my experience the Anime Legend titles don't look as nice; slimmer, but not as nice. I think it's the banner that says anime legends on it. Glad you guys mentioned this, I hadn't even thought about the cheap HD-DVD's. I suddenly found more things to buy :P
A Small List:
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya - Vol. 1 $39.69 ($31.75)
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind [HD DVD] $11.98 ($9.58)
Hot Fuzz [HD DVD] $11.98 ($9.58)
Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law - Vol. 2 $11.07 ($8.86)
The Venture Bros. - Season 2 $24.26 ($19.41)
Lupin the 3rd - 1-5 Movie Pack $19.80 ($15.84)
Lupin the 3rd Movie Pack - Final Haul $19.80 ($15.84)
If prices stay the same, about $110, although I might drop Haruhi and Venture Bros, or most likely everything since I'm in a stupid 'in-between' time with work (just got a new job but won't be getting paid for a couple more weeks I think).

Yep, USATODAY seems to be working. I just bought waaaay too much but the prices for hi-def were actually fairly good. Splurged a little bit in terms of buying things that may get cheaper, but did hold off on some big names that might be part of a better sale (like Narnia, since it seems that Disney does decent sales occasionally)
(a few of these are for gifts, prices before 20%)
The scary thing is there are a few more things I may want to pick up but need to check prices-- I hope this is like last year that each coupon was considered separate (i.e., you can use USATODAY one time, but you can use a different coupon for another 20%)
The Breakfast Club (HD-DVD) - $11.98 ($9.58)
The Loop - Season 1 - $14.84 ($11.82)
Closer [Blu-ray Disc] - $22.08 ($17.66)
Fast Times At Ridgemont High (HD-DVD) - $11.98 ($9.58)
Shakira - Oral Fixation Tour [Blu-ray Disc] - $18.04 ($14.43)
Knocked Up [HD DVD] - $11.98 (9.58)
HD Environments Living Landscapes - The World's Most Beautiful Places [HD DVD] - $15.23 ($12.18)
Mutiny on the Bounty [HD DVD] - $15.73 ($12.58 -- good price on the Warner Bros. classics, they rarely go too cheap-- like Casablanca, Robin Hood, etc)
Scary Movie 4 [HD DVD] - $7.99 ($6.39)
Short Circuit [Blu-ray Disc] - $13.49 ($10.80-- yay, brings it back to close to Amazon's $10ish preorder price that I missed)
(just got my confirmation email with all prices at 20% off, so it looks good to go. Although strangely the total is 3 cents less than the Deep Discount order confirmation page I printed when I placed my order. Weird!)

Cool! Looks like I was able to work this out after all--my order hadn't shipped from Amazon yet because I had selected the free shipping option, which requires all items to be in stock for any shipment to take place. The Blu-rays for CLOVERFIELD and THERE WILL BE BLOOD have run really thin at online retailers and were holding up my order; I simply cancelled the whole thing and reordered at DeepDiscount (who hadn't yet jacked up their prices, as I'd feared) for approx. $20 less! DD has the same issue with CLOVERFIELD and THERE WILL BE BLOOD stock, but now, at least, I won't have to wait for the Blu-rays of SIGNS and PATTON!

Hey cheapy! The banner says to use the code "GAMER" and that it ends the 22nd. If we click the banner does that give CAG more money, than using the link?
Due to the new NY tax, as long as CAG is a NY state corporation, there will not be any affiliate revenue from retailers like DD that won't collect taxes from NY residents.
We worked out a different arrangement, which is why you see the banners.
We will probably wind up incorporating elsewhere.

Thanks. My previous experience w/them has been good, but this time I'm wondering how easy it will be for them to restock HD-DVDs from their suppliers. I guess worse that will happen is that my OOS orders will get canceled? At least they don't charge until item ships.
Is the 20% off coupon on the whole order or a single item?
It will be off the entire order, not just a single item.

Others have explained it already, but to put it simply: it's 20% on top of their already 25-30% off. If a dvd on the site is already 30% off, this coupoon makes it 46% off.

My wallet just took a big hit. I decided to take advantage of this sale to catch up on some retro-cartoon collecting. Here's my score:
TMNT (1987) Season 6: $15.11
TMNT (2003) Season 4, Part 1: $12.01
Darkwing Duck Volume 2: $25.87
Ducktales Volume 2: $25.87
Ducktales Volume 3: $25.25
Animaniacs Volume 2: $34.50
Sonic the Hedgehog the Complete Series: $19.89
Adventures of SMB 3/Adventures of Sonic: $31.61
Captain N and the New Super Mario World: $18.61
Legend of Zelda: $18.08
Total: $226.80
Discount: -$45.36
Final Total: $181.44
On a related note, I became aware of the deals/coupons at bn.com and managed to score a trio of DVD sets cheaper than what I would've paid at DD. With B2G1, 20% off one item, and 6% off all items I ended up with these prices, before (and after discounts). Additionally, this is without a membership:
Animaniacs Volume 3: $40.49 ($27.93)
Muppet Show Season 2: $31.99 ($0)
Muppet Show Season 3: $31.99 ($30.07)
Shipping: $0
Tax: $3.48
Total: $61.48
Would've paid about $79 at DD so I saved myself an extra $17 on those three. :D
So in total I spent $242.92 on DVD sets today. Eesh!

Somebody explain this to me, Trafic (Tati film with Hulot) is now showing up as a preorder and stating that it will come out on the 15th, effectively negating the coupon. The others just show up as out of stock, which means that the coupon should still work on them. What the hell and why?

That happened a few sales ago with Freaks and Geeks/Undeclared... I think it's a matter of the studio starting up a new production run for that item, and DD changing the listing to reflect the when they get the first shipment for the new print run. Which sucks for the coupon users.
(I remember this because my brother had me pick him up those TV shows, and I somehow managed to get the order in in the less-than-a-day window between 'out of stock' and the preorder change, so I was able to use the coupon.)
Anyway- my orders so far are:
Galaxy Angel S
Ramen Fighter Miki vol. 3

Criss Angel Halloween special
Top Gun (Father's Day present)

Thanks for answering my question. Still, that's really lame. I would have waited for the title, as long as I could order it with the coupon. Now I'm going to be a title short for my M. Hulot/Tati collection. I guess I'll just use some Borders' coupon that comes up.

It's not just the media mail aspect. They must take forever to process the order, and possibly ship it out after they say it's been shipped. I love DD, but I can order other things from anywhere else media rate and it'll always be quicker than DD (aside from Dealextreme shipping out from China :)

yeah, it is taking about 3 weeks for me to get my orders in CA from them anymore-- it's pretty ridiculous but as long as I still get them I'm happy. I just wonder what kind of shipping they're using since no other retailer (or Ebayer), even using Media Mail or some sort of mail innovations (DHL/UPS/etc) is anywhere NEAR this slow.

DD is weird when it comes to shipping. I have had it take up to 2 months (ordered during the holiday season, so perhaps that's why) until I received something. Really, I don't mind, except for the time they gave me all kinds of problems for nothing and then canceled my order without telling me/without my say.

yeah, thats the Criterion edition as the price and the fact that the pic has Criterion's little tag on the side of the picture makes it a bit obvious.
As for the Kubrick Collection, it says its out of stock when you put it in your cart

I just found out that something I ordered from DD can be gotten cheaper elsewhere, but my order has already shipped. I can get a full refund by sending it back to DD when it arrives, right? Two ways to do it.
1) Take the package from the USPS rep, mark on the outside "Return To Sender" and drop it off at your local PO. It'll go back to them at their cost, and then they'll credit your card when you get it back to them. Took about 9-10 days when I sent something back for refund.
2) Call them/email them and tell them that you want to return the item when it is delivered. They should send you a pre-paid mailer via email, which you can print out, stick on the box, and drop it off at your local PO.
They tend to prefer #1 over #2, though they normally won't do #2 unless you've tried to cancel the order before it ships and they don't get to it in time to return it back to them.

Can someone who has ordered from this current sale and received his items please tell us how many days it took from the day of ordering until you got the package? I'd like to know how slow they're going right now...
It varies greater from 1 week to one month.

I know about that, but I would like to hear very recent experiences from people who have purchased movies during this sale... You know, to see how fast they are right now.
Myself, I ordered a single DVD on Wednesday last week (said it shipped the next day - suuuure) and have not received it yet.

I ordered on the 6th and received on the 16th. They shipped from Ithaca, IL and I'm in Iowa. Then again there was a massive flood so who knows, might've been here faster. Usually takes awhile.

Well, I've ordered from them consistently for the past few years and they're always slow. I don't see them changing that based on their past track record...

This makes most of their HD DVD's 9.58. Is this a good deal now or should I go somewhere else? It seems they raised their prices when they announced this sale.

Wow you're an ass.
I, and many others here have been ordering for years, they are ALWAYS SLOW. Can you get that through your thick head? There is no fucking difference to "right now" they have always been and will continue to be slow. Do you understand that or do I need to say it in Spanish?

I worked for DeepDiscount from 05-06 in the warehouse. Generally orders got sent out pretty quickly, except for the holiday season and the 20% off sale. I'd say they are probably AT LEAST 1-2 weeks behind. This means your order won't even be touched for at least or two after you've ordered it. If you order next day or 2nd day your order takes priority and will probably ship that day or the next. Of course then you don't get free shipping though.

I really wish they had a gift certificate or something similar. =/
Instead of a rebate from CompUSA i got a stupid Visa Gift card. I wanted to buy 2 box sets and with the discount and gift card would only spend $14 out of my pocket, however DDD wont allow you to split the charges. I figured i would send myself a gift card from them but they dont do that either.
Oh well maybe amazon will have a good sale on what im looking for.

When did I say that they weren't always slow? The ass is you for misunderstanding my question. As others have said, their shipping times can vary from a week to a month, and the time of year is a factor. I asked a fair question, and some people gave me good responses (thanks Mugen & Chucki)... But not you. :(

But, they aren't always slow. Once, I received a package, during the big 20% off sale, in 2 or 3 days after ordering (and I used the free shipping option...) But yes, they usually take a really long time....

They shipped my last item today....it was on backorder, and if you add it to the shopping cart, it still shows up as out of stock. I guess they got just enough stock in to fill some orders and I was lucky enough to have my order be one of those they filled.

Yeah I did too. Not sure if all the coupon codes work after the 22nd, but the one in the e-mail was 'SUMMERSALE' in case not all of them are extended.

I'm sure all the coupon codes will still work, they all do the same thing, they're different because Deep Discount wants to know where people found out about the sale.
I got:
Rififi (Criterion Collection)
Thieves' Highway (Criterion Collection)
Night and the City (Criterion Collection)
Brute Force (Criterion Collection)
Ace in the Hole (Criterion Collection)
The Third Man (Criterion Collection)
Double Idemnity (Special Edition)
Zodiac (Special Edition)
The Conformist (Extended Cut)

ordered on the 7th, Shipped on the 9th but still have not received jack. Man this is some long ass shipping. I don't know any carrier that ships in more than ten days. DD must just print the shipping labels but not send them til a couple of days pass just to charge your CC. Only logical explanation for this huge shipping delay.
