Thinkin about gettin a new 1 maye even tommarow at Sams Club, but I don't really need anything now , I mean I cold wait a year or even more if it is gonna be worth it. I found nice 1 for $1,200 a HP A647C its got a 17"lcd a 200 gig hard drive 512 mb Ram a 2.8 ghz pentium 4, a DVD burner and the full front port stuff with usb, card readers, firewire, and speakers. That sound good?
Thanks,
Jon

it really depends on what you plan on doing with it. will u be using it for gaming? if so, check what kind of video card it has.
of course, as im sure someone will tell you, if you know a decent amount about computers, it would be cheaper to build one yourself.
other than that, it seems like a nice computer.

If you're only going to be playing music and surfing the internet, you don't even need something that fast! Get an EMachine!

I am liking the T3092 http://www.e4me.com/products/products.html?prod=eMachines_T3092# I know I don't really "need" that much power but I am looking for something that will last. For example I am using a 6 year old XPS right now!!!

emachines have horrid failure rates. Don't "go near" them.

best buy, they had the computer for 199.99 (or 299.99 with an emachine 17" monitor) so i elected to buy just the CPU for 199.99 and they also had the MAG 14" flat panel/screen lcd monitors for 99.99, bought them each and my entire set up came out to $299.99, or, 299.98 plus, i put it on my reward zone card, and due to the prices being after rebated i got somethin like 20 or 30 back in coupons

Nah, Ive got a t2080, I love it. 2+ years old and used a ton. I actually bought it cause it was cheap and I seemed to upgrade every two years anyway, but I really dont feel I need to upgrade now.

It depends what generation of eMachines you get. The stuff from the Win98/ME era was horrible, very similar to the day of Packard Bell. Both companies would buy from anybody who offered it a buck less regardless of failure rate.
Now that eMachines has become a big brand (and is owned by a bigger brand, Gateway) they don't have to cut corners so much. The difference is very noticeable. I had one client's Celleron 333 machine die just because I installed a network card. IT was toast. All I could do was pull the hard drive and transfer the data. My more recent experience was a P4 eMachines owned by the same client that was pretty solid except for coming with only 128 MB of RAM but that was a price issue. Given more RAM it was fine.
If I'm not building it myself I still greatly prefer to deal with smaller companies like PC Club franchises. The big brand machines tend to come with gigabytes of garbage pre-installed that in some cases can never be gotten rid of without wiping the drive and starting from scratch. You can't always do that because there is often also a custome BIOS and a hidden partition on the drive for the company's tech support tools.
As someone who doesn't need the typical clueless tech support I prefer to actually own my entire machine rather feeling like I'm just leasing it.
