Thats a good deal for the Blu Rays. I heard those were remade for the format too because of the new one coming out. I guess my obsolite HD DVD player is good for something because I picked up 1,2, and Scorpion King for 5.99 each.

I should have said that by "remade" I mean that they were made from scratch for the format, and not simply ports of the HD DVD version.

I think you mean 3. For some reason Uni doesn't consider Scorpion King to be apart of the Mummy franchise. It's a spinoff, but they should still include it.

I'm with you waiting for a box.

I am thinking about grabbing the first one, i really enjoyed that movie. On the other hand USA is going to be showing these two like crazy when the 3rd comes out so i might lose interest.

Well, they included The Scorpion King in the Mummy Franchise Collection box set, so I would consider it part of the franchise.

After the next ones comes out, hopefully they'll have some sort of BOGO sale to average them to $15/movie.

From what I've read, the main change with the BR version versus the HD-DVD version is much better audio and a couple of added supplements.

Links to reviews of both:

Mummy Returns: http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/1442/mummyreturns.html

Got me excited until I clicked in the thread. I'm pretty sure you can edit the title. I've done it in the past.

I've heard conflicting reports. Some people have said it sounds a lot better, others have said it only sounds marginally, at best, better.

Either way, it's still lossless, and still has a great video transfer.

But if you already have the HD-DVD, I don't know if it's worth picking up again just for the lossless.

I should check on BluRay.com and see if they're in agreement or disagreement on the audio upgrade. Lossless is still better than DD+, though I'm not sure if it's double-dip worthy.

Blu-ray.com says there is, but they are kind of fan boyish and talk in the entire review about how HD-DVD held the industry back (which is true, to a certain extent). So, it's sort of biased. HDD did as well, but the guy that reviewed it isn't the most credible.

People on AVS have been saying that there is a slight upgrade.
However, Universal did provide a new video encode that apperently fixes the problems that the HD-DVD has, such as EE. Either way, I do not think this is double dip worthy, but a great disc to buy if your a fan of the movie and own blu-ray.

The Mummy is presented in its Original Aspect Ratio 2.35:1 (VC1) on a 50GB disc. This Blu-ray release has been completely re-done and looks a bit sharper from the previous 2006 HD DVD version. While I personally thought the HD DVD version looked great when I watched it back in 2006; comparing it to the new 2008 Blu-ray edition...well, there are some slight notable differences. The picture is a bit cleaner (grain is still present) and there is far less edge enhancement then before. Is it a mind blowing transfer? No. It’s certainly a bit better then the HD DVD and probably worth the upgrade if you simply must have the best presentation available.

Universal has ditched Dolby Digital 5.1+ for the ever delicious DTS MA. While the HD DVD version had a DD+ track which sounded decent, the new DTS MA boosts it up slightly. The sound is more vibrant and powerful. Also included are Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks (in English, Spanish and French) as well as Dolby DTS tracks (in Spanish and French). The only bad thing here is that if you do not have a receiver capable of decoding DTS MA or a player (PS3, Panasonic DMP-BD50) you are stuck with the core from DTS MA or a basic Dolby Digital 5.1 track.

For those with the current HD DVDs wondering if they should upgrade... it’s a tough call. The video and sound quality is better than the HD DVD version and while the Blu-ray version has some brand new extra features, the only one that's decent is the U-Control. Personally, I sold my HD DVD versions for these Blu-rays for a few reasons. The first being I really love slip covers and both of these releases included them. The second being with the new Mummy coming out in theaters (and eventually Blu-ray), it would bug me too much to not have all The Mummy (and even Scorpion King) movies on the same format. The upgrade in picture and audio was not a deciding factor in my decision.

Why do so many people try to say the Scorpion King is a Mummy sequel?

No Mummy
No Brenden Frasier+family
Enough elements to warrant it's own sequels
Takes place in a different time period than the other 3

No he wasn't. He was in it for about 5 minutes. He was talked about throughout the film, though that hardly qualifies to make it part of the "Mummy" series.

Sounds like I'd be thinking about doing the switchover if I could do them as a B2G1 or B1G1 on Amazon.com, or possibly with some RZ certs tossed into the mix. For now, as I did the Mummy movies for $11 ea @ BB on HD-DVD, I'll stick with them until I can get a better deal on them than movie cash money. $20 is a good price, though not double-dippable in my book.

I sold all 3 of my HD DVDs (Mumm, Mummy Returns, Scorpion King) for $30 on eBay, so if I had purchased these at $20 a pop, I'd be out $30. Glad I didn't. But if they're a BOGO...it would be well worth it.

Do you really consider $20 a good deal for a movie that was out in 1999? $5.99 for the HD's is but would anyone seriously buy these 3 for $60? I got all 3 for $12 total before HD was around... To me it isn't worth it to spend $48 just to see the same movies.

Also is anyone holding out hope that The Mummy 3 is going to be good? Brendan Fraser isn't funny, comes off as fake and is only tolerable because the Mummy movies were pretty good. Adding Jet Li to it is like adding Xzibit to The X-Files... no thanks

Where are these BOGO deals on bluray everybody talks about? I thought those ended once those of us non-drinkers finally gave in and drank the kool-aid. :)
I guess with the movie ticket included, they are almost BOGO.

I don't understand how the money for the movie works because i've never tried to use one before. Is it like a coupon or something? I'm only asking because some places tell you they dont use discount coupons or whatever so I was just wondering if someone who has bought these could tell me how that coupon works to see the Mummy 3....thanks!

You just go to http://www.hollywoodmoviemoney.com/ and find a theater near you that will accept the ticket.
