South Park will never be released in high def. Matt and Trey concluded that, after they realized the difficulty in doing so, when they did that trial episode for xbox live.

What I'm really waiting for is the complete Blu-Ray box-set of the Sopranos. They already did Season 6 Volume 1 for HD-DVD and Blu-Ray a while back. I know it's just a matter of time but I wish they would hurry up.

That said, if someone bothers with it, a lot of anime tv shows could verily well be on BR. Case Closed has over 490 ep., if Funimation were trying to release more episodes for American consumption, think of how many episodes of DVD-quality can they fit on it.

Nope. All those shows are 4x3 produced. At best they are 480p. That would negate any benefit of being put on Bluray outside of "oh wow 50 episodes on one disc" for people who are just too lazy to change the disc every once in an while.

Edit: Season 1 at least for "Family Guy" is 480i given the interlacing issues on the Volume 1 boxset. Forgot about that until just now.

I'm perfectly happy with DVD for most shows anyways. It was hard enough getting Fox to release "Millennium" on DVD already..... I can't fathom them even wanting to release it on Bluray at this (or any) point.

Yes you can put full screen on a blu-ray disc, the begging of "Enchanted" was done in full screen (the cartoon world, though it was on purpose.) Several special feature are sometimes full screen, but not in High Def.

There is no excuse for all new seasons shows shot in HD not to also get a Blu-Ray release as the DVD release comes out!

In particular I would love to see Blu-Ray releases for Dexter, the entire ABC lineup of shows coming to DVD in September (not just Pushing Daisies, Grey's and Lost). Also, Stargate Atlantis, the Futurama direct to video films (they are shot in HD), 24 (Why did they release a SE DVD version of Season 1?!--that should have been Blu-Ray!). Also new seasons of crime shows like Criminal Minds, Medium and CSI. Also, USA shows like Monk, Psych and Burn Notice.
I also wish the other studios (namely Disney) would follow the Lions Gate model and charge the same for the Blu-Ray or DVD version, instead of charging ridiculously high premiums!

South Park? Family Guy? Why? Animated series made for 480i/p would not look much better in 1080p. DVD quality is fine for standard definition animation.

Off the top of my head, I say...

1. Lost (I've never seen it! I've been waiting for a Season 1 HD set)

3. 24 (good show, sub par video/sound on the DVD sets)

But they would end up being about the same price per episode, if not more. Discs and packing are fairly cheap, the big expense is licensing, encoding and distribution. Offering standard definition on BluRay just because it uses fewer discs does nothing but limit their potential buyers -- since far more people can play DVDs than BRDs. To make up for the lower sales, as well as the higher cost of high-definition encoding, their prices would have to increase.

Probably just Lost - The Complete Series Box Set and even then I wouldn't want to pay more than $130 for it.

Unless Blu-Ray prices come down considerably, most of the TV Shows that I like (i.e. The Shield, Alias, Dexter, The Wire etc.) just aren't worth the premium surcharge of Blu-Ray over DVD, especially when purchased on a season by season basis.

I'd say my top 3 series I'd like to see on blu-ray are probably Sopranos, Stargate SG-1 & Stargate Atlantis. The 2 SG-1 movies are getting blu-ray treatment, but no word on the actual series yet afaik. I was honestly a little surprised to see that huge Sopranos set hit with no blu-ray version along side it.

Tho the blu-ray premiums in general need to go away, they're ridiculous. Maybe then we'll see more of this stuff show up on it.

Lost. Have seasons 1-3 on DVD, but just gave them to my girlfriend to watch and then sell on her eBay account for me (I've never sold anything).

I'll probably rebuy the complete series on Blu Ray down the road, but in general I've not buying many more TV series anymore. I tend to just watch them once and never touch them again and they take up a lot of space on the shelf and I have space issues with having 300+ dvds/brs as is. Just gave my 24 seaons 1-6 to my parents (may sell those after they watch them) and gave away Heroes Season 1 & 2 to a friend. Trying to free up space and get rid of crap before I move this summer.

ALl I have now are the 3 seasons of Arrested Development, Boomtown Season 1, and all 6 seasons of Scrubs. I'll hold on to all of those. Need to get back to watch scrubs, but them all for $20 a season nearly a year ago and have only watched Season 1.

I'd love to get ALL of dexter on blu-ray (season 1 is on blu-ray tomorrow) don't know what if any features improvements compared to the dvd sets (heard of BD-Live) I'd also like to get Trueblood on blu-ray but i highly doubt that seeing as it seems band of brothers and sopranos only have gotten that treatment from HBO. Most shows are actually shot on film. In fact, wasn't the first season of Enterprise shot on film, then they went to HD cameras the rest of the run? Film is of substantially higher quality than HD because the film grains are smaller than pixels. It just depends on the quality of the film, the way it was kept in storage, and the quality of the transfer.

It also helps if the show was brightly lit, as the film grain (and even some of the HD cams they use in TV) don't like low light. Shows like LOST have excellent quality on Blu-Ray in 1080p because they're bright. Other shows, like Rescue Me are darker in the majority of their scenes and end up looking like they were filmed on sand.

Of course, it'll also depend on whether the studio used DSP on the HD release....which is what we got on the Blu-Ray of Band of Brothers to reduce the grain in darker shots.

As for my list....I'm desperately awaiting The Venture Brothers S3 on Blu.
