If GH: Metallica sells like hotcakes, I'm sure a legal battle to get more money out of Activision....
with GH IV in the works already across all consoles... gesh...
soon we'll see, GH sells 1 billion and they'll release a crappy song just to boot... they're going to milk thing thing dry...
Sorta like the Sims... with 10+ exp packs...
fortunately sims and GH aren't my choice of games...

I love me some Guitar Hero. I actually prefer it to Rock Band. This is just bullshit. I will not buy this, nor will I even rent it. Metallica can suck its own cock and go to hell. They've been shit for years, and showed their true colors years ago. They don't deserve a single penny.

Grow up. They were dickish about suing napster users but they did have a point. In sense they were suing their fans, but most of these 'fans' started whining and complaining and calling them sell outs years earlier when they released a more mainstream Black alblum. Their last cd sucked but the rest are pretty damn good.
Ill buy this easily. Should be fun. Maybe while youre on your Metallica bashing rant you can head over to missionmetallica.com and preorder their new cd.;)
The question I have, aside from 'why?', is whether or not this will be GH3 based or GHWT based, considering that it's likely to come out AFTER World Tour.
Meaning.... just guitar, or the entire band?

Guitar Hero: Metallica > God. I'm buying this the second it comes out. The only bad album Metallica has is St. Anger, so I'm looking forward to some awesome songs in this game. And since this won't come out till next year, and Metallica is releasing a new album this year, maybe we'll see some songs from the new album.

Hehe. I liked ...And Justice for All but shit certainly went downhill for me at the Black album. If I ever get around to liking music games (that aren't Samba de Amigo) I'd probably get this.
With this announcement, I'm wondering why they went with Aerosmith first. GH Metallica would be alright, but I'm picky about what songs of theirs I like. I'd rather see GH Pantera but that's not very realistic.

There was suppossed to be a Metal DLC pack released in March that would have included Metallica - Fuel among another song from Sabbath and Maiden. There was a rumor that the pack wasn't released because Activision secured the rights to one of those bands. It appears Rock Band won't be seeing the new Metallica single, let alone a full album.
I liked GH & GHII, but I didn't really like GHIII. The note chart wasn't as fun and it was more of a gimmick with boss battles. If this were a Rock Band thing, I'd buy it on the release date. Metallica was one of the few bands I'd pay any instrument on Rock Band. I may buy this, but I'll probably buy it used so Activision doesn't see a dime from me.

For some reason the article wouldn't load for me. Anyway, this will sell assloads of copies. I hope they are not new recordings of the songs, since Jame's voice is terrible now and the guys in the band can barely play their old songs. It would be cool to see the Diamond Head songs in the game. Probably won't happen but I would probably rent the game just to play those.

I dont see how you can say MOP was worse than AJFA, AJFA was a great album (with some VERY long songs) but MOP has the overall better tracklist with MOP, Sanitarium, Battery, Disposable Heroes, etc.
Id rate them
Ride The Lightning
Master of Puppets
Kill 'Em All
...AJFA
AJFA after Blackened, AJFA, One, and Frayed Ends of Sanity is not really all that amazing.

stolen from another forum... not sure of the source but I think someone got it from a Game Informer magazine:
Here are the announced songs so far:
Alice In Chains - No Excuses
Bob Seger - Turn The Page
Judas Priest - Hell Bent For Leather
Kyuss - Demon Cleaner
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Tuesday's Gone
Mastodon - Blood And Thunder
Metallica - Enter Sandman
Metallica - For Whom The Bell Tolls
Metallica - Fuel
Metallica - Hit The Lights
Metallica - King Nothing
Metallica - Master of Puppets
Metallica - No Leaf Clover
Metallica - Nothing Else Matters
Metallica - Sad But True
Metallica - The Unforgiven
Metallica - Wherever I May Roam
Michael Schenker Group - Armed and Ready
Samhain - Mother of Mercy
The Sword - Black River
Unannounced tracks by Foo Fighters, Slayer, and Queen will be included. Alice In Chains "No Excuses"... damn I want that!!! It'll be sweet if they allow for some sort of exporting, like with AC/DC in Rock Band, but I'm not holding my breath. Disc-swapping is kinda becoming a GH trademark, and that's not a good thing.

Samhain - Mother of Mercy

Though Misfit's Last Caress would have made more sense, obviously. P'raps the "I raped your mother today" line was a bit much. But, hell, why not "Die, Die My Darling" or "Green Hell"?
Also, 'Whiskey in the Jar,' either the Thin Lizzy rendition, or Metallica's take on that version, pretty please.
Lastly, not enough pre-black album 'Tallica. Boo.

As much as St Anger gets pooped on, I dug the CD when it came out. Guess that makes me a diehard fan or something. I wouldn't mind seeing St Anger on the disc. They need easy Metallica songs somewhere.
The track lineup looks good so far, good enough to warrant a Day 1 Rental (not to mention making me seriously consider renewing my gamefly account). If they can at least manage 60 awesome songs, or keep it priced at $40 or less I might just bite.
This reminds me; I'd literally kill for GH: Tool. Seriously.

Being the staunch Metallica supporter I am, I would buy this game day 1 if it had only songs from Load up to St. Anger. With that being said, there are still songs I badly want to see in the game.
The Four Horsemen
Fade to Black
Creeping Death
Welcome Home(Sanitarium)
Leper Messiah
Damage, Inc.
Harvester of Sorrow
Bleeding Me
Outlaw Torn
These are the ones I want most(especially "Fade to Black"), but there are other ones I'd like in there, too.
This reminds me; I'd literally kill for GH: Tool. Seriously.
:applause:
I *almost* held on to WT just for the three tool songs since they were charted unlike any song I've seen in GH or RB before for the drums. I don't need supporting music either, just a bunch of Tool (maybe some APC) albums in a row would do it.
GH makes me want to vomit though. I didn't understand all the hatred until I got the POS that was GH:Aerosmith. It was some new character models and new songs... *WHY* could that not have been DLC? Not to mention when I played WT and the Willie Nelson song was non-stop red eighth notes the ENTIRE song on drums. No effort whatsoever.
I'd love a Metallica DLC pack for RB, or more importantly, if Tool got the full album treatment for DLC. Disc swapping is unacceptable anymore now that RB raised the bar with exporting.

Now that my Samhain-induced boner has subsided...I'm not getting why some of those other bands have been included. Samhain I kinda-sorta understand, even though Danzig (Hetfield doing backing vocals on a few Danzig I songs, the bands touring together) or the Misfits (obviously Metallica covering a bunch of their songs) would make more sense. Beggars can't be choosers though, and if this means Glenn is opening up the vaults for these kind of games, awesome.
But why Mastodon? Did they tour together? Why the Foo Fighters? Kyuss but no Diamond Head? Michael Schenker Group?? I realize this is not a complete list, but there are a few wonky choices in there. I'm not bagging on what's listed either, I'm just wondering what the association for some of these are.

The guys in Metallica are huge fans of Mastodon, James grew up idolizing Michael Schenker (the reason he bought his Japanese knock off V) and Dave Grohl is the biggest Metallica fan in the world.

edit: for some background heres an open letter Dave wrote to Metallica before Death Magnetic was released.
"Dear METALLICA,
"Hey, it's Dave! Remember me? Yeah, I'm the guy that's been listening to your band faithfully since 1983. I bought your first album 'Kill 'Em All' from a mailorder catalogue called Under The Rainbow, I think. Actually I can't remember. It was 1983 for Christsakes! But that album changed my life and I've been listening to your albums ever since (even 'St Anger'!).
"I can't wait to hear the new shit, and no matter what you guys do I'll always be first one at the shop waiting to hear it. I'm sure you'll come out and blow everybody's fuckin' minds, because you're fuckin' METALLICA!
"Good luck. And don't release it until it's kick-ass.
"Yours, Dave Grohl.
"P.S. Are you finished recording the drums yet?"

"Yes, we know, it's the worst kept secret in rock-n-roll but we're here now to finally confirm that there will indeed be an all-Metallica Guitar Hero game released in the first half (!?) of 2009. Guitar Hero Metallica allows you to play as us in either single instrument or band career game modes in your choice of some famous settings (Tushino Airfield anyone?) or new venues with in the round staging. Included are 28 Metallica songs along with a few from some of our buddies like as ALICE IN CHAINS, THE FOO FIGHTERS, SLAYER, MACHINE HEAD and QUEEN. There is also an all new Expert+ difficulty setting featuring two bass drum kick pedals (!!!) along with all the gameplay modes from Guitar Hero World Tour. Over the next few months, we're going to be updating you with track listings, more features, of course how and when you can get the game, and some cool previews of the game right here on the site. As you've heard us say before, keep checking back for more details!" So I guess there are 17 songs left to be revealed after the already leaked list.

Burton was larger part of the band than most people think. After he died it went downhill from there. Truly an amazing bass player. And Justice.. did have some fine tracks though. Battery, Orion, One, etc.
If this game has Harvester of Sorrow and Welcome Home(Sanitarium) I'm all over it! Hope Seek and Destroy, Whiplash, and Creeping Death sneak in there as well.
The track list should be heavy older stuff but because Black was so big it has to include those(which I can live with). It should not include anything off load ,reload, or st anger though.

Fucccccck. That is a really good song list. I was going to buy it anyway since they threw in some Samhain, but throwing in Orion and that Mercyful Fate medley (marathon songs that aren't boring, hooray!) - I may have to buy the goddamn thing twice.
I agree that the omission of The Four Horsemen is a pretty big oversight, but the rest of the list is so good I don't care. That's what DLC is for I suppose.
Am I Evil? is one of the last Diamond Head songs I would have thrown in there, but it's certainly understandable why they did. I just wish they had used the Metallica version of that and then gone with another Diamond Head song...maybe It's Electric, The Prince, or Dead Reckoning (which Metallica swiped the Seek and Destroy riff from). No big deal though.
Here are the Metallica tracks reordered by album.
Garage Inc. was before S&M ;)

Told my GF, she's so fricken happy. She grew up with Metallica.
She likes all this metal and awesome rock music. And I listen to MGS sound tracks, podcasts and cold play. =/

Of course it was. In my defense, I was super worn out last night when I typed that up. Part of the reason for listing them like that was for the people who undoubtedly have never even listened to Metallica, yet would come in here and say "lol new Metallica sux, they should have put old shit on there" because they've been conditioned to say that by the internet.

Holy shit! Mercyful Fate, Samhain, Slayer, Mastadon and Suicidal Tendencies! I'm more excited about those than the Metallica tracks. Count me down!

A few things now that I've had time to let the whole list sink in.
No Four Horsemen make me a sad panda.
No Jump in Fire (I think that song would be fun... repetitive, but fun as a band)
No Ride the Lightning? That's the tag line to the game, I'll let go because of FTB and Creeping Death.
No So What? (I kid, I kid... can you imagine the edit job?)
Other than that I'm suprised St. Anger isn't on there, but I'm OK with it :) This one is actually going to be good I think.

I don't know if this has been mentioned here yet, but at Gamestop today I saw a sign that said if you preorder this, you get an extra bass drum pedal as a bonus. It was a handwritten sign taped to the counter, so I'm not sure if it was store-specific or what.

Thats at all stores. Anybody know if the 360 has a month or two exclusive window over the PS3?

Gamestop's site says 3/29 for 360 and 5/1 for PS3, but wikipedia says 3/29 for both.
Will the double pedal feature work with the RB1 drums?

On a brighter note, i'm glad to see turn the page and stone cold crazy! I wish turn the page was metallica's version though.

Is this a full on World Tour-ish game with the ability to play all instruments or just gitrs?

I'm not ashamed to admit that I preordered just for the kick pedal. Hopefully it'll work with Rock Band drums, even if it doesn't differentiate between the two kicks.

Ah, I should have thought of that. Well that's cool then I guess. I wonder if they're going to chart it differently for guitar/bass or keep it the same.

That's a good question. either way people are going to be upset. :) I'm in the leave it alone camp. I'd like to have some advantage picking up a guitar again. Also it just seems like they would be saying "we messed up!" the first time.

They might change the charting. Neversoft's charting has improved as they go along, so I would assume they at least put through the same testing process they do the rest of the songs.

I really hope there are some changes. I haven't been able to enjoy Guitar Hero games since I got Rock Band. I recently tried GH:WT and I was so unimpressed. The atmosphere was bland compared to RB and I didn't like the drum patterns. I didn't get a chance to check out the guitar charts though.

I agree with this cat. I don't expect this to be anything other than this:
GH: 80's: GH2
GH: Aerosmith: GHIII
GH: Metallica: GH:WT
Without even the slightest hint at an effort beyond new tracks. But, hey, they're good tracks, right?
The temptation to preorder for an extra foot pedal is immense (that's $20-30, right?), but since I use RB1 drums, I'm uncertain if the extra pedal will work or not.

It seemed there was a very small amount of refinement from GH2 to GH:80s and with GHIII to GH:Aerosmith, I hope that occurs with GH: Metallica. I have my doubts that will happen because there are 4 times as many chart patterns to work on compared to the older ones. I really want this game to be good solely because I love this tracklist and never thought I'd see most of these in a game like this. If they are no fun to play though...it'll be like finding a huge stash of candy only to realize it has no taste.

With this, Beatles, and GH 4, its safe to say that this year will be approaching the end of the plastic guitar market. With DJ Hero announced and talks of a keyboard variation, gamers are ready to try something in plastic musical instruments. Not to mention retailers are having a tough time getting all this plastic shit off their shelves.

I Thought Guitar Hero: World Tour was Guitar Hero 4? Besides that, who or what says the end of the plastic guitar market is coming? Sure it may not bring the sales of say Guitar Hero III, but there's still more then enough of a market for people to keep playing and buying (along with DLC). Also keyboard talk has been speculated since Guitar Hero II so it's one of those "I'll believe it when I see it" kinda ordeals.

I am referring specially to the accessory/controller side. Sure, there will be DLC but as for hardware, the market is approaching its peak. I meant to say GH5. As for the other instruments, the reason why its been all talk so far is because the guitar video game market does not allow room for any other competing instrument. Look at Konami's attempt at entering the market. It's way over saturated and until the peak has been reached, we wont see any other instruments coming.
As for who and what is saying this, I could tell you that I work for a third-party video game accessory company or you can just check out your local game store and you'll see the loads of guitar shit piling up or being discounted.

And have you played Rock Revolution? Market saturation isn't what killed it, it's just that people won't buy games with song covers that make their ears bleed.

Yes, we have it at the office. It is actually quite difficult on the drums. I am sure your right about the cover bands but the saturation doesn't help it neither.

The cover songs are the least of Rock Revolutions problems. The game freezes, achievments are glitched, no where in the game or on the box does it mention who the original artists are, the notes scroll completely vertically (which leaves less time to pick them up and is extremely disorienting if you are standing up playing guitar), there are ridiculously gimmicky and difficult gameplay variations built into the career, the notes are smaller (and therefor harder to pick up) than the other music games, the backgrounds are 10 billion times more distracting than other rhythm games which is compounded by a translucent note track and the track selection is a complete cluster (Sk8tr Boi + Pantera! Yes!). I'm sure there are other problems I'm missing.
You can't toss a turd into the market and make any assumptions about the market based on how the turd sells.
