I am looking to buy my first ipod. I bought myself a bicycle (because I tore my Achilles' tendon hurdling back in January nd can't run just yet ) and got everything all set, got a bike rack for my car to take it anywhere. And now I want to entertain myself ( Joe Satriani anybody?? ) . I wanted to see what people think would be the best MP3 player to get.
I would only be using this walking to class during school, or running and biking.
I can't imagine watching videos or anything on an ipod, I just want music.
I am thinking the shuffle is a good choice. I think 1GB should be OK. I want to know if you can get my music off my CDs onto the ipod. Ive heard all kinds of confusions from my friends about that.
And does a new shuffle come with headphones and something to charge it?
Thanks all. And also, obviously, any deals are wanted.

I know that I've said this to you before but bike + headphones = accident waiting to happen.
You've been warned.

That seems like a good deal. I like the idea of drag & drop.
I was given a 80gig ipod for my birthday last year and it's only yesterday that I was taught how to get music in there... I had managed to get some tunes in there during the winter, but I have no idea how, and then somehow I managed to erase everything. I think I've got the main idea on Itunes now, but I would have loved a drag & drop interface.

If I was going to get a new MP3 player, I'd certainly go with the Sansa Clip listed above or the Sansa Fuze. Both are made by Sandisk, and therefore are guaranteed to be of good quality. My personal favorite player is the Samsung YP-k3. I have the Red 2gb version and it is fantastic.
I won't touch ipods anymore, especially since I hate Itunes... If you want something just to listen to music on though while on the go, the Sansa Clip is easily your best bet. It will easily fit anywhere and has a decent battery.

He's probably married.
Ripping CDs is easy though, you can do it in iTunes just by putting a disc in. The disc will be detected then you just choose to import it, at whatever bitrate you chose in preferences.

Get a iRiver S10, you'll thank me later.
unlike a shuffle it has...
- up to 2gbs.
- a Screen (what a concept)
- is smaller or the same size
- Drag and Drop (1337 over iBoons)

Shuffles are also known to be prone to failure after a couple of months. You are really paying for the brand and not much else. I would go for one of the other mp3 players recommended in this thread.

If you're going to be using an .mp3 player during athletic activities, make sure it's flash-based. You don't want a hdd sliding around.
