They reveal it in this week's EGM Live that the issue they're just now finishing up is his last issue. And this is actually happening, unlike the pirate joke they revealed in a previous EGM Live several months ago.
He's probably been my favorite writer at EGM for as long as I've been reading the mag and he's great on EGM Live, so I'll definitely miss his departure more than most of the guys that have left EGM in the past few years.

The ship is sinking fast.

The ship sunk long ago, now they're abandoning the life rafts. In what, five years, ZD went from having five magazines to just one now. It won't be long now till EGM is no more and all they have is that website.

A ha! I called it. In that thread a while back about who the next EGM staffer to leave would be.
But this sucks... there's like 2 of the old-school crowd left.

It's all because of MGS4!!!!
I loved his acting as George McFly in Back to the Future. Hated Willard though.
JK, I know that's Crispin Glover. Too bad EGM lost its greatness years ago. I do still enjoy Seanbaby though.

I have bought or received for free via subscription every issue since %100 in November 2007. Sad to see so many of those guys leaving. Crispin and Shoe were cool as hell at E3 2005.

I've been reading since issue 12. This is the same way I felt when Ed Semrad left EGM....but you know what? It's always good. Crispin's a good guy, but the mag will live on.
I like EGM so much...I actually pay for my subscription! How sick is that?

Why is the video game industry turning into something like Hollywood?
A few years ago, I never heard of any of these people. If someone quit or left a magazine, a website or whatever it never mattered. Now a days, it's OMG GUESS WHO LEFT ____ AND IS GOING TO ___!!!
:-s
Methinks there's way too much focus on the drama that circles around these publications (and the people who work there) and even press releases (mainly from game developers/publishers)
Whatever happened to.. playing games and just enjoying them? :-k

If I were still limited to just the magazine I wouldn't know who these people were. I know them from the 1up podcast. Listening to them every week I've grown to know them more.
He was the best one at the magazine. Always enjoyed his writing and his reviews.

The fact that Shoe left and now Crispin is leaving is pretty interesting. They were pretty tight having worked together since EGM was run out of Chicago.
I'll laugh my ass off if all of these guys who are leaving end up at Giant Bomb.

Sucks. Always liked his reviews as he was never afraid to slam hyped games--see his 4.5 or whatever it was score for Assassin's Creed.

Yeah it was a 4.5. He complained about it being repetitive and about some hard parts, like being knocked off of the docks into the laughably fatal shallow water.
Funny, I didn't have a problem getting through that part. And name the last game that wasn't repetitive. I thought he was too hard on AC. It's not the greatest game ever, but it was pretty decent.
Although I also like to slam hyped games like Jade Empire, God of War, and Bioshock.

True, but Crispin has been at EGM FOREVER. That's the only reason why I know his name- he's in every damn issue. This is sad, he's the last of the old guards and he's the only really good person they got left.

Well, there's still Mielke and Shane, but yeah, apart from them, there's nothing :(

These people are not important at all...
The magazine is just a wordy advertisement for the upcoming games.
I just need something for the bathroom, it helps that it is free.
Do any of you honestly feel there is anything of more worth in EGM than a thread on CAG plus a visit to Gamerankings?

To a slight degree, as I trust their reviews above others. They tend to be very harsh on games, and I like that as I'm uber picky with only trying to play games I absolutely love since I have so little free time to game these days.
So I usually use their reviews and a visit to gamerankings to help narrow down the list of what games I should try out. Threads here I don't pay too much attention to. Too many biased fanboys overhyping games, and the crowd here is more hardcore, games a lot more than I do and as such most aren't as picky about what they play as I am.

These guys won't be reappearing at any other sites. There's obviously no money in gaming 'journalism' and there's certainly almost no integrity left. The publishers and console manufacturers have clearly won.
Even the adjacent entertainment media outlets can't be used as examples of the standards that gaming should aspire to. They're also regressing into poorly-veiled infomercials for movies, music, and sports leagues being promoted. Why? Because people are more intellectually lazy and vapid than ever. Add to this trend gaming's inherent need to factor addressing children and those in arrested development (to a fault) into their writing and presentation, and it's folly to ever have expected this to turn around.
EDIT: Threads here I don't pay too much attention to. Too many biased fanboys overhyping games, and the crowd here is more hardcore, games a lot more than I do and as such most aren't as picky about what they play as I am.

It's better to get the opinions of raving fans, the ranting discontent and those in between than it is to get three glorified forum trolls'.
EGM reviewers are not picky, they are negative and inconsistant.
That said it's great as a free magazine, but I question the sanity of anyone who views it as more than a collection of ads and commercials.

Well, most of them never write anything about video games ever again anywhere, so you're basically losing a great writer and given a green writer. The best you'll see is perhaps the person's name in the end credits of a game making it into public light. They pretty much disappear into the darkness and are never seen or heard of again.

They are negative, but I'm negative about gaming these days as well, so it works for me.
I don't think the individual reviewers are inconsistent. The review staff is, but that's the nature of having a large review team, different people have different likes and dislikes. But I haven't seen many cases of the same reviewer being inconsistent from game to game with his/her gripes, at least not that I've noticed.
That said, I don't read the reviews like the gospel. They, and game rankings, is just one piece of the picture that helps me decide what I'll play next. Personal likes and interest are the main determining factor, reviews just help steer clear of some games and maybe check out some others that weren't on my radar before.

Well, alot of the threads here just take the info from EGM (verbatim, sometimes) and paste it into the topic.

I actually see this as a good trend. It's better that people take notice of the writers and reviewers whose opinions they agree with, or atleast respect, rather than focus on the the site for the reviews. It's holding up the reviewer higher than the site. In movies for example, nobody calls an Ebert review the Chicago Sun Times review (I think that's who he writes for). I don't see why you can't pay attention to the reviews you trust, and then play the games and enjoy them. They aren't mutually exclusive.

Now then can promote RockSolidAudio aka Nick, although I vehemently disagreed with most of his Dark Sector review.
