Dear Atlus Faithful,

I gave you hints, I really did. Go back and look at the last couple Faithful communiques and look at the first letters of some of the words in the final paragraphs. Oh well.

The time for teasing is over... it's time we show our hand:

Atlus is excited to unveil Yggdra Union for PSP® (PlayStation®Portable), a thrilling mix of turn-based strategy, real-time action, and oh what the heck, a bit of card-based combat as well.

Yggdra Union for PSP is more than just a straight port. Completely remastered to take full advantage of the visual and aural power of the PlayStation®Portable, this ground-up remake delivers higher quality artwork and sound, widescreen aspect ratio, a bilingual (English and Japanese) voice track, an all-new difficulty setting, and more.

How much more? Well, how about new characters to play as and unlock, new missions to complete, multiple endings... it's a rather lengthy list.

Nothing like getting exactly what you wanted, eh, Atlus Faithful? As always, there'll be more released about Yggdra Union over the coming weeks, so be sure to check the game's official website frequently.

Have a splendiferous week!

IRVINE, Calif. - June 09, 2008

Atlus U.S.A., Inc., today announced Yggdra Union, a card-based strategy RPG for the PlayStation®Portable system (PSP). For years, strategy RPG fans have accepted repetitive, non-interactive battle sequences as the genre standard; few games have dared to break the mold. Yggdra Union blows through, shattering the mold into tiny, unrecognizable bits. One reviewer wrote of the game’s ground-breaking mechanics, “It's no easy feat to invigorate a genre that has remained fairly set in its ways for the last few generations, let alone do it with the imagination and energy present here.”* Experience a fresh mix of turn-based strategy and real-time action, constantly engaging the player and providing intense, riveting gameplay combined with tactical card-based combat.

Originally released for Game Boy Advance to warm praise, Yggdra Union is beautifully remade and loaded with enhancements, including fully remastered audio and visuals (featuring the artwork of famed character designer and manga artist Satoko Kiyuzuki), fully-voiced dialogue in both Japanese and English, a widescreen aspect ratio, additional difficulty settings, new unlockable content, and more… all exclusive to the PSP® system!

Yggdra Union is currently scheduled for release on September 16.

It looks like a more simplistic Fire Emblem. Maps looked small too. I'll keep tabs on this thread for Jekki's usual craziness with screenshots and videos though, since maybe the videos I saw weren't good representation of the game.

Reading the link in the thread, it's seems like a given. The cards on the atlus site match the ones on the game's japanese site.

I've played it on the GBA, and it's a fun game. I'll definitely pick up the PSP version.

This thread also reminded me of my still-sealed copy of Riviera for PSP that I was so excited to get then sort of forgot about.

very exciting news indeed, gota love Atlus...

Not to be greedy, but are there any Carnage Heart fans here? What are the chances Atlus would bring us Carnage Heart Portable? .... I can dream ....

I'm not a sure these extra content (new opening movie, new characters, extra scenes, new Tactic Cards, improved battle animation and new voices) will push me to buy this since I beat this game already. Unless its on sale

this or dragon warrior 4 for the ds...... sorry but DW 4 will get my cash... maybe if this game was 20 or less

if its just a clone of the GBA game that last battle is just plain stupid. Throw your people at the boss until it has 1 hp left then use a certain card and BOOM you win. There is nothing else to do . on the GBA one i just let the system run itsself until the boss had 1 hp left

VERY FUN GAME. VERY LAME ENDING

Yggdra Union: We'll Never Fight Alone is a delightful romp for both new players and those that enjoyed (or slogged through) the original foray. With additional battles, a new storyline, optional characters, and variable difficulty levels, the more irritating flaws of YU are smoothed out, resulting in a fantastic game.

Many changes come with the new version of YU, a short list includes: adjusted difficulty, improved card levelling, elements on more weapons, additional characters, more levels, the ability to speed up battles and easily skip tutorials

anyone know of what flaws they are talking about. MIght be worth a rental for me but i doubt i still buy it

Wonder what is up with Adjusted dificulty... hopefully harder cause the game was too simple on the gba

Improved card leveling??? cant remember but did cards level up in the GBA verison

more levels (hopefully it means more then 1 LOL)

EDIT OUCH i see ebgames is tossing in a soundtrack..... Be interesting to see what the soundtrack would grab on ebay.

if i knew the thing would fetch 20+ would be interesting in buying it for 20 (40 - 20 for sound track) But i be shocked if the soundtrack would grab more then 10

DOUBLE EDIT... Says 56 songs on soundtrack. I never knew they could fit 56 songs on a single CD... unless these things are like 15 seconds long

toss up right now... BUY THIS GAME FOR 40 and hopefully dump the soundtrack

or Buy Dragon quest 4 for 30 (after 10 buck CC gift card)

I think DQ4 will be a longer game (think i beat the GBA verisoin of this game in like 15 hours)

If i knew i could dump the soundtrack for 10 to 20 i would buy it .

Actually, when I read about the card part of the game, that's what caught my interest in it. I've got too many standard strategy rpg games, so the cards aspect will hopefully inject some new life in the genre. It doesn't hurt that for some reason, I really like card based games. Eye of Judgement, Metal Gear Acid 1 & 2, Culdcept, etc. Thanks for the heads up though.

off gamefaqs

-The characters will be voiced, and the North American version will have the
option of hearing Japanese or English voices.
-In Normal mode, morale will recover (by 25% of max?) on level up.
-In Hard mode, morale will not heal on level up. However, all other changes in
the PSP version will stay, such as extra card effects.
-Tactician Mistel (scythe user) is a playable character in any mode.
-Mystic Witch Pamela (rod user) is a playable character in Hard mode.
-Bly is a new, unplayable character.
-There is an option to speed up the game.
-More CGs are added along with change and/or improvement in artwork.
-Some battlefields are modified.
-An alternate version of battlefield 14 is added.
-Battlefield 49 is added for hard mode, with a new ending.

Cards:
-The Flame card causes BURN, which damages every turn.
-The Thunderbolt card causes PALYZE, which disables movement.
-The Rockfall card causes SLOW, which allows moving only one square per turn.
-Other cards (possibly GEO cards) might have other boosts.
-The Bloody Claw card's kill damage bonus is now in effect.
-The Refreshment card now recovers morale (by 10% of max?) when used.

Mistel:
-In BF 13-2, visit the two new villages and finish the map.
-You will skip BF 14 but go to BF 14I then BF 14II.
-In BF 14II, Mistel will join.
-After fighting Baldus for a while and Aegina will come; both have the Protect
status.
-After a few more turns, Bly will appear, telling you to move to a location.
-The volcano will erupt once in place, removing Baldus and Aegina's Protect
status.
-After the fight, you will receive the new card, Oblivious Dawn.

Pamela:
-In hard mode, make sure to have Nietzsche next to Pamela (they will have a
conversation) in BF 23-1. After that, Pamela can be defeated if you choose to
do so.
-In BF 24-3 or BF 24-4, uncover Pamela at her usual spot (far bottom-left
corner) and let Nietzsche talk to her once more. Pamela will forcefully join
your party.
-After the fight, you will receive the new card, Coma Karma.
-Note that Pamela is not like Rosary, being a different class, unable to use
Doll Craft, and does not attack with the fire element on aggressive.

LAME 2 new chapters ?

If you played the GBA verison your probally going to hate this (get bored very quickly saying WTF i just played this , there is nothing so called new

If you never played it before your going to love it. That is up to the end where the game just gets VERY VERY VERY VERY STUPID.... Wait till you get to the end and you will see what i mean.

you just keep throwing people at the final boss until you it gets to 1 moral then you need to use 1 card and game over

Great game and quirky characters. Very addictive, but also hard and frustrating (especially dying after an hour's stretch of continuous battles). Best advice is don't go hardcore commando style and create SUSPEND SAVES during iffy battles. Cheers!

i probally end up sending this back to gamefly tomorrow and try to pick it up used off Eb games.

used with edge be around 22 bucks now or if they have it by Thursday (HA HA ) 21 bucks.

Right now im on battle map 7 with almost 4 hours into it.. I must of played this game on the GBA for 40 hours *unless the maps go faster cause i heard there are around 48*

its just too freaking bad how the game ends. It ruins a great game. I mean why grind the hell out of the people just so it does not matter in the end

It's amazing how one little feature like the ability to fast forward through battles and the jibber jabber can make such a huge difference in a game. That's what killed any enjoyment I got out of the GBA version for me, but thank goodness for the "R" shoulder button in the PSP version.

I ran through a bit of the GBA ROM on my DS before getting the PSP version. Now that I've tried out the remake, I'll never return to the DS version. The PSP's a huge improvement in every way -- especially the ability to FF through dialogue, but also in terms of graphics, options, voice acting, etc.

I'm not a fan of the soundtrack, but I did pick up a copy to sell long after the last preorder has been filled.

To the guy who didn't receive the soundtrack with the preorder: I disagree with the person who said you sounded like a "broken record." The reason to order online is because things tend to be in better condition shipped from the warehouse instead of abused and rebadged by talking foreskins.

If you want the soundtrack, keep your packing slip and print a copy of your order that shows the CD was supposed to be included. Call GS CS and be a dick with a megaphone. If that doesn't work, check your local stores and go to the one that still has the soundtrack. Take along your packing slip and unopened game and show it to the salespeople. That's what I did -- yesterday! -- and it worked out well.
