Why are "white" and "black" accepted in society, but not "yellow"?

I don't know how accurate this is, but according to my African-American studies professor, there are 3 races: caucasian, negroid, and mongoloid. So everyone can trace their roots to one of the three, no matter what ethnicity you consider yourself.

You should release the hounds on Bruce Springsteen:

Born down in a dead man’s town
The first kick I took was when I hit the ground
You end up like a dog that’s been beat too much
Till you spend half your life just covering up

Born in the u.s.a., I was born in the u.s.a.
I was born in the u.s.a., born in the u.s.a.

Got in a little hometown jam
So they put a rifle in my hand
Sent me off to a foreign land
To go and kill the yellow man

Born in the u.s..a....

Come back home to the refinery
Hiring man said son if it was up to me
Went down to see my v.a. man
He said son, don’t you understand

I had a brother at khe sahn
Fighting off the viet cong
They’re still there, he’s all gone

He had a woman he loved in saigon
I got a picture of him in her arms now

Down in the shadow of the penitentiary
Out by the gas fires of the refinery
I’m ten years burning down the road
Nowhere to run ain’t got nowhere to go

Born in the u.s.a., I was born in the u.s.a.
Born in the u.s.a., I’m a long gone daddy in the u.s.a.
Born in the u.s.a., born in the u.s.a.
Born in the u.s.a., I’m a cool rocking daddy in the u.s.a.

I'm sorry you feel that way. It's a pity.
Of course, it's rather intolerant and shows a decent amount of ignorance to hate all practicioners of a specific religion.

That's only sort of right. There's Jewish to mean followers of Judaism and Jewish to mean Israelites. They shouldn't really get lumped into the same word, but do.

The earliest practitioners of a wide-spread religion are not any determinant of their race. The vast majority of modern day Catholics are no more descended from Romans who comprised the early Roman Church any more than the majority of Jews today are directly descended from ancient Semites. Likewise, Islam spread far beyond its initial Arab tribal practitioners centuries ago.

Unless a religion is found only in a single geographic region you cannot draw a correlation to race after millenia of interaction with other regions. Only dead or nearly dead religions can be readily tied to a specific ethnic group.

This is no joke, but if you take a really good sociology class, you learn there is one race, the human race. Color DOES NOT DETERMINE RACE.

"Descended from Abraham" would be more accurate than "from Semites" if you're describing what the Jewish race is, if there is such a thing anymore. Semite just refers to someone who speaks a branch of the Semitic language. There are plenty non Jewish Semites.

In a pure historical sense, you can't put delimiters on a race of people using religious texts. Saying they are "Descended from Abraham" is buying into the text of the Old Testament being a legitimate historical record. Most religious texts are not.

On a side note, much of the early Jewish religion was just a ripoff of the Babylonian stories anyway. Interesting that Ba'al and Yahweh were both "rider of the clouds" who had battles with the raging seas. The only difference in that particular story is that the Ba'al battle manifested itself as a giant sea cow called Tiamat, while Yahweh's battle was more with nature.

On another side note, wasn't mongoloid a slang term for the mentally challenged back in the 50's?

Is Ba'al interchangable with Marduk? He's the only guy I remember fighting with Tiamat from Babylonian/Sumerian mythology.

Did you hear about the girl who had her confirmation ruled invalid by the Catholic church? Apparantly she is intolerant, or allergic, I believe to wheat products. Anyway she can't eat anything with gluten which is the protein in wheat and communion wafers are made from wheat. The church says any other wafer made without wheat is not truly valid as part of the sacrament because Jesus ate unleavened wheat at the last supper. So she isn't really confirmed becauseshe never ate the wheat wafer. How dumb is this ?

My question is this: when the priest blesses the sacrament, it technically doesn't become food anymore, but it becomes the 'body' of Christ so why should it matter if it's made from wheat or not. Seems like a stupid thing to burn in hell over, doesn't it?
