I read in gamepro that Mortal Kombat 8 will be called Mortal Kombat Vs. DC, and have series veterans like subzero and raiden, but also batman and superman and other people like that.
The game is going to have a T rating, which means it won't be a gorefest as much.
Do you think this change is good or bad for MK?

The MK series does need an overhaul. I like the MK vs DC but the Teen rating may kill it the series. MK is all about violence and gore. Toning it down may be bad. But look at all those Marvel vs Capcom games and shit. They do well.

I was finishing writing up a pretty long ass response with 4 paragraphs and shit. But then i just said fuck it and realized i could just sum it up with one sentence.

Mortal Kombat without gore and fatalities is a peice of shit.

It's sucked since MK II IMO, I stopped caring about it more than a decade ago.

Mortal Kombat's never been a particularly deep or balanced game - the gore has always been the selling point. If you get rid of that, I'm not sure what's going to be left.

This game could very well be another Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects - a generic fighting game with a superhero license as its only redeeming feature. That's not enough to sell a game.

Mortal Kombat always kinda sucked though. Since whoever thought of giving all the characters the same kinds of punches and kicks was a good idea, should be beat down. Only thing that ever made it stand out of course was the sheer blood and fatality factor. If it wasn't for that we wouldn't even be talking about the damn series right now.

If they can make a game where gameplay can actually stand out for once, then hell by all means do it because they sure weren't able to do it with their last few slow and clunky titles. Though hell, I can bitch all I want but it'll still be a million seller.

I stopped caring about MK after MKII. The series never really developed... it pretty much either stayed the same or took a few steps back.

The series feels ancient.

Well Ive been dissapointed by the past 3 MK games. They just weren't as fun to play. To me, the best MK games were MK2-4. MK just hasnt been that great in full 3D gameplay.

I don't know if Tobias can hear you, since he left the company almost a decade ago. I think even he was turned off by the fact that MK was growing stale.

Mortal Kombat has been terrible since 3. They should just stop trying.

I wish they would have continued to create action/adventure titles. Shoalin Monks and the konquest modes were good ideas, but the gameplay/story just weren't there. I would have hoped for a combination of Jade Empire & God of War. Now there's a game I would like to play.
